I called Junk Rescue to taken away a bunch of storage totes and some furniture, I had stored in my basement since I moved into my house. I also needed them to take away some remodel scrap wood and things I had under the deck, and items along the back side of the house. They told me over the phone how they price their removal. The pricing seemed fair enough. I was expecting it to be a lot higher. I had a pretty good understanding how much this was going to cost before the guys arrived. My memory is failing me and I forgot the names of the two crews sent to take everything away. Two trips for them and one and a half dumpsters of way too much stuff, gone. I was happy. TOTAL MISREPRESENTATION OF SERVICE! I called junk rescue at the recommendation of my professional organizer. I really appreciated, when i looked at their website, that they offered "Responsible Disposal: Our #1 priority is to donate and re-use anything that we haul away. Anything that cannot be donated or re-used will be recycled and disposed of responsibly through our eco-friendly disposal methods. That's what we call junk justice!" They also say that: "Our team works in accordance with local regulations, partnering with well-known organizations like the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and other charities across the United States." I had a party business, I had about 80 cases of decorative paper lunch and dessert plates, lunch and beverage napkins and cups. All unopened. I also had a myriad of other things like a Thule swing out bike rack and matching ski rack (still in the unopened box), a relatively new desk chair, nursing rocking chair, brand new light fixtures, etc. When they arrived, I told them that I was concerned about all the party supplies as they were still in the sealed cases and I wanted to make sure they got donated. They told me that this was called to be a junk run and they were just going to the dump (eco-friendly disposal methods?!). I asked to speak to their office. The manager told me that they do try to recycle metal items, and they have a relationship with Goodwill (what happened to all the other charities listed on your website?!). He offered to put the things that possibly could be donated at the back of the truck and stop at Goodwill before they go to the landfill, but there are no guarantees that my items would be accepted. For all of you who have used this service and did not ask questions, my guess is very little if any of what they took out of your house was donated or recycled. This is the list they provide as items that can be picked up and they intimate on the website, could be donated - don't trust this company if you are expecting to have your things sent anywhere but the landfill. PS - my organizer is really angry as she said that they used to have people who sorted items and redistributed - If you change your business model, change your website! Also, Goodwill really appreciated all the party supplies. The good news: the dumpster was affordable and they made extending our rental length (which we did several times) very easy. The bad news: when the time finally came to take the dumpster away, while we were out of town, their driver caught the dumpster on an overhead wire, ripping it off the outside of our neighbor's house until it started to cause sparks. According to PSE&G, if they hadn't stopped when they did, it might have torn part of the neighbor's wall out and caused a fire. As if this wasn't bad enough, according to our lovely neighbor, she had to run out to the truck to get their contact info because the driver was apparently just going to leave without going to talk to her about what they had just done to her house. Then she had to call the electric company (and file a police report), because she said the driver made no indication he was going to do so. While this was happening, my family was on vacation out of state, and while Junk Rescue claimed that they tried to reach me, they never left me a message if they did. I had to hear about it from a workman who was at our house and when I reached out to Junk Rescue, they dramatically downplayed the whole thing, saying it was not a big deal, and took several days to actually come collect the dumpster for good. It wasn't until we returned from our vacation that we discovered the full scope of what had happened. Mistakes happen. That's life. But not taking every possible step to make things right is not okay. Our neighbor is understandably very upset, and as a result, so are we. read more

I had a very good experience with junk rescue. It was was easy to schedule and appointment as I had a pretty limited time frame. They came a bit earlier than the scheduled appointment but only after calling first to checknig it would be alright they were also willing to wait if it was inconvenient. After, that everything moved pretty quickly and they had removed the contents of my studio apartment within an hour. They charge by volume of stuff rather than time which can definitely be beneficial in a lot of cases. For me it ended up being a bit pricey for what I had, since I had given a lot of the furniture away but had a lot of clothing, bedding and other ends to get rid of.
