Passing through town, looking for a spot to eat lunch after looking through the yelp reviews, we decided to head to the Junkyard bistro. It was almost 1 o'clock by the time we got there and we loved the old-time vibe of the place. Obviously, it was originally a bar that they have transformed it into the most amazing Bistro! After a friendly greeting from Eric at the bar, we seated ourselves there, they have daily drink specials, super cheap items like two dollar beers rotating daily. Anyway, back to the food, which is the most important part! I decided to order the Vietnamese Bah Min sandwich and my husband opted for the hot Italian sandwich. The sandwiches come with the choice of sides so glad we chose the homemade clam chowder which was off the hook! the chowder came when the sandwich arrived on a nice board. I'm always hesitant to order this item any place that isn't fully legit Vietnamese, but I have to say this was an incredible sandwich from the bread up to the top with the amazingly succulent pork grilled to perfection with a spicy sauce on toasted French bread, cucumbers, red onions, and a sprinkling a cilantro really rounded out the whole thing. My husband had a delicious hot Italian, not so hot that the lettuce on the top of the sandwich was still fresh. It had a beautiful slice of mozzarella and succulent meats. What an impressive lunch I felt like I could have been in the best bistro anywhere in the world and was so happy to be here with this crew. liked that you can watch the chef cook your meal right in front of you for a tiny kitchen She really puts out some great dishes. I actually had to go and thank her personally for preparing such an amazing meal for us!! No wonder there are so many good reviews for this place. It is a true gem! You must visit!!

Great place in downtown Salmon. Service was top notch and the food was awesome. Small place but they get the job done.

The burger was one of the best I've had. The bar has great character and the wait staff was really friendly. I highly recommend this stop as you travel through Salmon.

Garlic Burger with Mediterranean Pasta Salad

This was by far the best burger I've ever had. If you go, get the Garlic Burger. Also, there was a 3-way food swap with my friends and I can tell you that the Turkey Bacon Gouda wrap and the Banh Mi are absolutely top notch! 100% would recommend!

On our way out of Salmon this weekend we decided to stop for lunch and saw several reviews saying Junkyard Bistro is the place to go! We walked in to this unassuming little joint, and it was packed! The bar was full of people, and there was only one open table left, which we quickly snagged. The menu was surprisingly extensive - it had wraps, pastas, sandwiches, bahn mi, noodle bowls, burgers, and delicious appetizers. I ordered a mimosa, because it was brunch on a Sunday so I had to! $4 mimosas, and they had a great champagne to orange juice ratio. I got the Tammy's grilled veggie cheese which was so good, I've never had a grilled cheese like it before. It had cucumber, red onion, cheddar, spinach, and honey mustard and was a surprisingly really wonderful combination. I'm going to try to make my own at home - it sounds simple but I'd never thought of combining those items together in a grilled cheese before. I'll definitely be back to Salmon, and can't wait to come check out some more items on the junkyard bistro menu next time I'm in the area. There were so many options to choose from, it was so hard to pick what I wanted! Definitely get here early on the weekends, or call ahead for a reservation! The inside is very cozy and quaint and the food is so delicious. It seems to be the place to be for every local and tourist passing through!

My brother and I came here on a recommendation from the motel that we are staying at. It wasn't hard to find and it's very quaint and has a great atmosphere. Our sever had great recommendations on selections from the menu. Service was friendly and prompt but it took forever for food to arrive but, it was well worth the wait! The food is delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

OMG seriously good hamburger!! Little hole in the wall bistro. Hard to find cause the sign isnt very prominent but well worth the hunt. Home made cream of mushroom soup and the garlic burger is good enough to make a vegetarian a carnivore. read more

I was on a road trip through the mountains of Idaho. I wandered in not knowing anything about this place, but wow! What a place! I had the muffuletta and my mom had the chicken curry bowl. It was absolutely delicious. It was mesmerizing watching the two cooks work non-stop, creating amazing plates, as more and more people kept rolling in. And the staff were super friendly! I've been in salmon working for a few weeks. I've eaten at the Junkyard Bistro 5 times--and they have all been amazing! The portions are huge and the food quality is fantastic--very fresh food. Atmosphere is pretty chill. Highly recommend! read more

Wow, what a surprise. I was passing through Salmon Idaho and wanted some lunch so I pulled out my Droid Yelp machine and searched for places with good reviews and came up with the Junkyard. The place is NOT what you are expecting when you read reviews of innovative and delicious bistro food. I literally walked in the door, looked around, walked out, checked Yelp on my phone again to see if I had the right place, then walked back in. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the place. But it is obviously and old Tavern, with a bar, a big PBR mirror in a long narrow room. Reading the review you think you may find some place a little schmanzier than this, maybe white tablecloths. But this is the kind of place that I love. The menu is not what you would expect and I ordered the pesto BLT wrap with a side of mushroom soup. Pesto BLT wrap? In a converted Tavern? Now you know what I mean by unexpected, and it was delicious. Then there was the mushroom soup. It was out of this world. I love soup and it was in the top 5 I've ever had in my life. I even made the faux paux of asking the staff at the end of the bar, which is the kitchen, if they made it themselves. I probably said it with disbelief in my voice, which is what an idiot like myself does from time to time. I'm sure a chef/cook doesn't feel very complimented when you ask him incredulously whether he made the food or not. So if you are reading this Mr. Junkard Chef, my apologies, your amazing soup had me acting stupid. You cannot miss going to Junkyard Bistro. I will never go any other place in Salmon. read more

Aren't these locals lucky! Food feels like high end dining, fresh, well done, delicious. Poor locals have to juggle with tourists. Ate lunch and dinner. Small & they take dinner reservations. Would have eaten every meal there if possible! Creamy tomato soup, cheesecake, salad, sandwiches. Yum! read more

Best food ever! My husband and I are very picky when it comes to restaurants. I've tried many things on this menu and you honestly can't go wrong! My favorite is the Coconut Chicken Curry Bowl (I don't typically even like curry and this is amazing) and my husbands is the Mongolian bowl! The garlic burger with the pasta salad side is also incredible! read more

My family needed a place to grab a bite on our way up to Montana and we saw the great reviews on yelp so decided to stop here. I am so glad we did. The food was amazing! My son got the macaroni and cheese, it was homemade and the best I've tasted. I got the chicken salad sandwich, it was heavenly and unlike any chicken salad sandwich I've ever had. My husband had a salad and he was very happy with it. The inside of the restaurant was kind of funky, but seriously some of the best food I've ever bought! If we ever pass by again, we will definitely stop in. Oh, and service was great, the girl who helped me was very nice. read more

Probably the best place in Salmon but context is everything. Food was pretty good (my wife had the buddha bowl and I had the gnocchi special that night. Service was slow. I understand a small kitchen getting slammed by everyone coming right at dinner time but there was only one waitress and it took awhile to get a beer and place our order. read more

My travels took me to Salmon, ID on my way to Montana. Just had their garlic burger and it was two handfuls of juicy goodness. Staff is very friendly too. I'll be back for that burger again if I'm back in town. Tasty beef, good bun, peppers, cheese, mushrooms and a garlic spread. read more

Enjoyed lunch with the family here. I had a sandwich with turkey, capicolla, ham, other stuff, and my wife had a Thai chicken rice bowl. The kids split a Caesar chicken wrap. Portions were huge...I skipped dinner. Flavor was good...lots of homemade stuff; you could tell they didn't just just open a bag from Costco and throw stuff together. Potato salad was obviously house-made. Prices were reasonable, beer selection was quite good...I'd go back, and I'd recommend it. It's a nice lunch or dinner in Salmon. read more

Oh my goodness! We had a referral from a business owner across the street from this bistro and we were not disappointed! I had the fajita salad, my daughter had Vietnamese pork roll and my husband had sweet chili chicken rice bowl. The portions were extremely generous and the food fresh and delicious. I tried the Veggie Grilled Cheese. I loved it. I only wish I would have realized the mustard was honey mustard dressing as I would have gotten it on the side. The veggies are nice, cold and crisp because they put them on at the end. I definitely recommend this sandwich. My husband got Garlic Burger. He loved every bite. Last night my husband got the French Dip. It was good enough but we wouldn't order it again. This place is a definite if you're in Salmon. read more

Food in Salmon is absolutely horrid, except for here. Delicious food in an old semi-converted bar. I had the chicken parm sandwich and it was delicious. My only nit: too much dressing on the salad. We should have skipped all of the other places in Salmon and only eaten here. read more

Stopped here based on other Yelp reviews, and was glad I did. There's not much to choose from in Salmon, and Junkyard Bistro, while on the main drag, is a tiny place scrunched in between other businesses. The food is fantastic. The menu is extensive, the selections both common (my husband had the Philly steak sandwich) and unusual (I can't even pronounce what I had, but it was a chicken Neapolitan panini something). Both were incredibly good. Prices were good, service was quick and the atmosphere was an upscale, funky, comfortable attitude. If you're in Salmon, go here. read more

The Junkyard is a staple of Salmon for good reason! I have lived and traveled many places, and the food at Junkyard Bistro is top-notch to say the least. I love getting the gnocchi with red and white sauce mixed or the Thai bowl, but I have truly never had a dish I didn't love. Every time I come back to Salmon the Junkyard is at the top of my list for where to go. read more

I was all set to leave a not so cool review. It took almost 40 minutes for our food. We noticed after we were almost done eating there was a large party in the back. Communication would have gone far. The food was freaking amazing! So was the creme brûlée. Would have done 5 stars if it hadn't taken so long to get 2 sandwiches. read more

Was excited to eat here with all the good reviews, but I was about half way through my dish of Alfredo shrimp pasta when I noticed a hair wrapped around one of the shrimp. I called over the waiter and pointed it out and she just shrugged and brought me my check. $16.75 for hairy pasta I hardly ate. What a joke. read more

They proudly customize burgers any way you want! I also noticed and appreciated that the burger patties were hand smooshed instead of mechanically squeezed to death (it sure looked a lot bigger than your typical franchise burgers!). There were several high schoolers doing a great job handling the kitchen and taking orders! Hubby attacked his GH&C sandwich too quickly so I didn't get a pic, but they were very generous with the ingredients and he enjoyed every bite. After reading some of the past reviews, it looks like the new owners have really turned things around. Kudos to them! We look forward to making this stop a habit when visiting the grandkids!

My husband was told the sausage was burned because it was all cooked earlier. ???? Then make fresh, not burned sausage. This place seems to cater to locals, and they apparently don't travelers money. My husband was told "you should just keep driving" . I've been in the hospitality industry for years, I've never seen, heard of, or experienced a bigger F you.

The boost were packed so I sat at the counter. When I finally got the waitresses attention who was just in front of me by 3 feet. I ordered. That's after waiting about 45 minutes. After about another 45 minutes the waitress got my sandwich, turned around and handed to me as I was 3 feet away. Then, she disappeared. I heard her say to another waitress you know where I'm going. I waited and waited and waited. She never came back. I finally asked another waitress to get my check. I went to the cash register and they said no, you have to pay at that cash register over there.??? So, I did that and I did not leave a tip. Zero, because my service was a zero people forget, TIP means to ensure promptness. The only reason I was at buddies is I thought they might serve a breakfast midday. I hate eating at that place.

Dave and Mary at Junkyard Bistro catered my daughter's wedding and such food could not be believed. We wanted tapas and they came through with a variety of deliciousness that had all the guests back for more. There were bean and corn cakes with chipotle cream, shrimp marinated in rice wine vinegar with a raw onion and pepper mixture, grilled pineapple skewers in rum sauce, pork tenderloin with pomegranate glaze, flank steak with coffee pepper balsamic reduction, tortilla-like quiche, spanish style, one vegetarian, artichoke and fennel caponata served on bruschetta. all I can say is wow. First time there and really liked the atmosphere of an old fashion bar, diner type where you can watch them cook, and I can tell you the infamous Junkyard burger was out of this world for flavor, creatively and just plain delicious! You might want to have a good appetite or take part of it home because they give you a generous serving of everything. Definitely a place to return to. read more

Amazing. Excellent food (hot Italian sandwich, broccoli slaw), large portions, low price, $1 PBR drafts, great service, and nice clientele (blue collar dudes, moms with kids, older folks) in a comfortable setting. The food takes a bit longer than usual to arrive, but it's worth it, and it's a nice environment to chill in and hang out. I'd be a regular if I lived in Salmon. read more

Just want to put this out there! A friend and I were on a trip from Victoria B.C to Sturgis and Back thru Salmon on our way North. The beef red wine noodle bowls were fantasic and so was the hospitality ! This was an excellent place to unwind from a long motorcycle trip! Highly Recommended ! read more
