Passing through town, looking for a spot to eat lunch after looking through the yelp reviews, we decided to head to the Junkyard bistro. It was almost 1 o'clock by the time we got there and we loved the old-time vibe of the place. Obviously, it was originally a bar that they have transformed it into the most amazing Bistro! After a friendly greeting from Eric at the bar, we seated ourselves there, they have daily drink specials, super cheap items like two dollar beers rotating daily. Anyway, back to the food, which is the most important part! I decided to order the Vietnamese Bah Min sandwich and my husband opted for the hot Italian sandwich. The sandwiches come with the choice of sides so glad we chose the homemade clam chowder which was off the hook! the chowder came when the sandwich arrived on a nice board. I'm always hesitant to order this item any place that isn't fully legit Vietnamese, but I have to say this was an incredible sandwich from the bread up to the top with the amazingly succulent pork grilled to perfection with a spicy sauce on toasted French bread, cucumbers, red onions, and a sprinkling a cilantro really rounded out the whole thing. My husband had a delicious hot Italian, not so hot that the lettuce on the top of the sandwich was still fresh. It had a beautiful slice of mozzarella and succulent meats. What an impressive lunch I felt like I could have been in the best bistro anywhere in the world and was so happy to be here with this crew. liked that you can watch the chef cook your meal right in front of you for a tiny kitchen She really puts out some great dishes. I actually had to go and thank her personally for preparing such an amazing meal for us!! No wonder there are so many good reviews for this place. It is a true gem! You must visit!!

The burger was one of the best I've had. The bar has great character and the wait staff was really friendly. I highly recommend this stop as you travel through Salmon.

Garlic Burger with Mediterranean Pasta Salad

This was by far the best burger I've ever had. If you go, get the Garlic Burger. Also, there was a 3-way food swap with my friends and I can tell you that the Turkey Bacon Gouda wrap and the Banh Mi are absolutely top notch! 100% would recommend!

On our way out of Salmon this weekend we decided to stop for lunch and saw several reviews saying Junkyard Bistro is the place to go! We walked in to this unassuming little joint, and it was packed! The bar was full of people, and there was only one open table left, which we quickly snagged. The menu was surprisingly extensive - it had wraps, pastas, sandwiches, bahn mi, noodle bowls, burgers, and delicious appetizers. I ordered a mimosa, because it was brunch on a Sunday so I had to! $4 mimosas, and they had a great champagne to orange juice ratio. I got the Tammy's grilled veggie cheese which was so good, I've never had a grilled cheese like it before. It had cucumber, red onion, cheddar, spinach, and honey mustard and was a surprisingly really wonderful combination. I'm going to try to make my own at home - it sounds simple but I'd never thought of combining those items together in a grilled cheese before. I'll definitely be back to Salmon, and can't wait to come check out some more items on the junkyard bistro menu next time I'm in the area. There were so many options to choose from, it was so hard to pick what I wanted! Definitely get here early on the weekends, or call ahead for a reservation! The inside is very cozy and quaint and the food is so delicious. It seems to be the place to be for every local and tourist passing through!

Great place. The food was terrific as was the service. We had the chicken satay sandwich and the gnocchi. Both came with salads. We each had a local microbrew and shared one of the best creme brûlées we've had. The entire bill was just over $30. Amazing for such good food. read more

Being a local the Junkyard has become our favorite place to eat out. Our friends and family even make sure to meet up at the Junkyard for a bite when they are in town for a visit. Everything has that rich homemade flavor that we love! read more

On our way from Idaho Falls to Missoula and stopped in Salmon Idaho to tour the Lewis and Clark Museum. While there, we found this restaurant. My Wife had the turkey gouda wrap and she says it's very good. I had the chicken salad, and it also was very good. As sides, we had the house salad and caesar salad and those also were quite good. Give JunkYard Bistro a try while in Salmon, Idaho. read more

We stopped here for lunch on our way through and the food was delicious! Quick & friendly service. I had the Asian chicken salad, my husband ordered the Italian sandwich with potato salad and our kids ordered Mac & cheese and grilled cheese. Everything was fresh and well prepared, we'll definitely stop again the next time we're in the area. read more

Don't judge this restaurant when you first step inside. My wife gave me a look like - what did you bring our family into. It's kinda small and looks like bar. But, beyond the bar and open kitchen is a nice little dining area. They have a lot interesting twists on traditional dishes. I jumped into a peanut noodle bowl hoping for the best, and am glad I did. It was really really good! The kids mac&cheese, which was fresh and not from a box, was very good also. The food was fresh, hot and delicious. They love to add a spicy kick, be warned. The best. Had the Vietnamese Pork Sandwich. Wow. Good Service. Almost a NYC feel atmosphere because of the narrow space and small open kitchen. Cool to see the chef crankin out grub! Pulled into Salmon on the road with miles to go. Checked out side walk sign and thought - why not. Stepped in and thought hmmm "maybe not" (maybe a good stop for a local brew but...). Grabbed a menu and thought this is a sweet spot. Food unique and tasty. Service quick efficient and personable. Not a bunch of indoor room BUT if you have to wait. It would be worth it. Wonderful cheesecakes but they have a couple problems - too many awesome kinds to decide from and too big a bite after the great meal. Got too have one anyway Only regret is this place is too far from home or I would be a regular. PS. Also bought a flying pig. Can't eat that but will hang him on my wall read more

Riding thru town & needed a place to stop for lunch. Yelp reviews didn't disappoint. Don't judge a book by the cover, the food was great - my husband had the special sandwich and I went for the artichoke sandwich with potato salad - both were great. Had the smoked salmon, it was awesome. Great bread, just enough cream cheese and amazing smoked salmon. Great way to start your meal. I had the junk yard burger and the wife had the so Gouda for you, both were pretty dang good. Level of garlic in the burger was perfect, not over the top. And the so Gouda was spot on. Definitely recommend either dishes read more

We came here based on the high reviews and now we're writing one ourselves. Great food and healthy portions at a reasonable price, the perfect triad, is hard to find in smaller towns. Junkyard Bistro had all three of those qualities along with friendly service and a clean dining area. The menu caters around sandwiches, like the Bahn Mi that my partner had and left not a single bite behind. However there are a few other options such as appetizers (remember, good portions) and rice dishes such as coconut milk curry. The curry dish was creamy, comforting, and modestly flavored and spiced. The best part of the curry were the sweet and soft onions, as well as the perfect balance of sauce to rice. We highly recommend stopping in with friends to share dishes (pork and seeds tapas was a meal in itself). read more

This little place was a complete surprise! I loved the Gyro ( wow! Salad on the side!). It was hard to make a choice! Every table around us seemed to have the same great reaction to the quality of food, presentation on the plate and service! Oh, and did I mention reasonable cost? Passing through Salmon, we stopped here for lunch. Besides the great atmosphere, the food was excellent along with the service. They have a very extensive menu with wonderful sounding options. The Gyro with potato salad was very tasty. We will definitely be stopping again when passing through Salmon. I, too, wish there was such a place in my town. read more

Great food!! Appears to be a small bar, when we walked in my first thought was "bar grill". And wow!! Turns out to be the best bar grill ever!! The staff was very friendly. We sat at the bar where we were able to watch the chef prepare the orders in the open grill area. There are also about five tables inside and tables on the patio out back. My husband had the ultimate French dip, with grilled onions and cheese. Delicious! I had the Turkey Bacon Gouda Wrap, also delicious! We both had the wonderful cream of mushroom soup. Their pasta dishes and salads look amazing. When we pass thru Salmon on our way home we will definitely stop here again. You don't want to miss this one! read more

After about another 45 minutes the waitress got my sandwich, turned around and handed to me as I was 3 feet away. Then, she disappeared. I heard her say to another waitress you know where I'm going. I waited and waited and waited. She never came back. I finally asked another waitress to get my check. I went to the cash register and they said no, you have to pay at that cash register over there.??? So, I did that and I did not leave a tip. Zero, because my service was a zero people forget, TIP means to ensure promptness. The only reason I was at buddies is I thought they might serve a breakfast midday. I hate eating at that place.

Over all , we had a very good dinner with very good service. The place is clean but not much on ambiance. I would have given them a 5 star review but I took off a star for the greeting we had .

My husband was told the sausage was burned because it was all cooked earlier. ???? Then make fresh, not burned sausage. This place seems to cater to locals, and they apparently don't travelers money. My husband was told "you should just keep driving" . I've been in the hospitality industry for years, I've never seen, heard of, or experienced a bigger F you.

Dave and Mary at Junkyard Bistro catered my daughter's wedding and such food could not be believed. We wanted tapas and they came through with a variety of deliciousness that had all the guests back for more. There were bean and corn cakes with chipotle cream, shrimp marinated in rice wine vinegar with a raw onion and pepper mixture, grilled pineapple skewers in rum sauce, pork tenderloin with pomegranate glaze, flank steak with coffee pepper balsamic reduction, tortilla-like quiche, spanish style, one vegetarian, artichoke and fennel caponata served on bruschetta. all I can say is wow. First time there and really liked the atmosphere of an old fashion bar, diner type where you can watch them cook, and I can tell you the infamous Junkyard burger was out of this world for flavor, creatively and just plain delicious! Amazing. Excellent food (hot Italian sandwich, broccoli slaw), large portions, low price, $1 PBR drafts, great service, and nice clientele (blue collar dudes, moms with kids, older folks) in a comfortable setting. The food takes a bit longer than usual to arrive, but it's worth it, and it's a nice environment to chill in and hang out. I'd be a regular if I lived in Salmon. read more

Just want to put this out there! A friend and I were on a trip from Victoria B.C to Sturgis and Back thru Salmon on our way North. The beef red wine noodle bowls were fantasic and so was the hospitality ! This was an excellent place to unwind from a long motorcycle trip! Highly Recommended ! read more
