Exactly that... ok. It's like a Chipotle where you pick and customize your own noodle bowl. By the time I brought my noodle bowls home, the noodles were stuck to the bottom of the bowl and the whole bowl became one solid sticky mess. Can't be a coincidence since I ordered 5 bowls and all 5 turned out to be the same situation... a sticky mess. Wanted to update my review since I finally tried their weekend midnight menu. I had the scallion pancake bing with pork belly. This was really good and perfect for a late night snack. The pork belly was seasoned really well and the crispy pancake provided a great exterior. Service was not the best. It was unclear you ordered at the register instead of the usual spot. My friend ordered the chicken noodles and they didn't bother telling him the chicken would take 30min. He ended up asking them where his food was after 10min and changing his meat choice. Another disappointing overpriced meal in New haven! Almost 14d for a bowl with some white rice which has been sitting around way too long...less than 4 oz of chicken ..some scallions and cabbage...which altogether was bland and when I asked for some hot sauce it was like it was a imposition and a can of coke. Been here twice . The first time I had chun bings with the whole wheat Bing, chicken and beef. They were really great; the only shortcoming is the Bing tends to stick to the crevices of the teeth when you eat. Some people might be ok, but I found it quite annoying. The second time I tried the spring noodle bowl. Now THaT's phenomenal !!! The noodles' smooth and tasty with the right texture! and the sauces had just the right amount of ingredient mix, making it not too oily nor too saucy - extremely addictive! The ambience is awesome too! I like the upbeat music though it's more pop; it's got a really positive vibe ! Price wise, It's a little on the pricey side. Visiting New Haven for the holidays and did not expect to stumble onto this kind of a place for fast-casual Northern Chinese food. Got the knife-style noodles with the jaja sauce and a bunch of the toppings and everything was absolutely spot-on. Would love to return for the tomato-egg sauce or one of the bings. read more

Absolutely amazing casual place to grab a bite. The staff is efficient and friendly, and the food is delish! The sauces are flavorful and interesting, the toppings are fresh and well-cooked, and on top of all that, it's really affordable! Pleasantly surprised by this build-your-own noodle bowl in New Haven. I was in town for work and when walking down Elm I found this nice little spot. It's not a big space, but with a couple spots for table setting. Most of the customers ordered to go (like me!). I ordered a noodle bowl, and instead of opting for one of the standard menu choices I built my own. Spring noodles, pork, sauteed mushrooms, pickled daikon, shrimp salt, cilantro, and garlic chili sauce. Love! I really appreciated how the noodles are all fresh noodles that are quickly boiled in a pot whenever you order. I also snatched a "gunpowder rose tea" which was heavenly. This place is small Asian Chipotle. Lots of choices and combos for bowls. Ingredients are fresh, spicy, and delicious. Super fast service and more than willing to help pick and explain the process. It can be a bit overwhelming when you see all of those delicious things at once. read more

Junzi fills a nice niche in New Haven. When you need something quick and filling but not overly heavy (like the great local food carts), it's a great fit. The main downside I'd note is that the result is a bit dependent on how much attention the worker who makes your order pays to it (unlike something like Chipotle, which is pretty consistent). It's also on the pricier end, but you get a substantial amount of food for that price. Overall, highly recommend trying it to break up your monotony of packed lunches sometime when you need a treat. Only downside to trying it once is that the menu can be a bit overwhelming if you aren't familiar with the style of food, but just go with what you like and you'll be fine. read more

I'm glad this place exists now on Broadway in New Haven. The chun bings are delicious and very affordable. I found one to be enough for a good meal, and purchasing two lowers the price. So far I've tried the pork and chives and the sweet bei beef (preset menu items), both were very tasty. My sister also recommends the mushroom and tofu. I hope this place will continue for a long time! Would love to return here when I'm back in town. read more

My husband and I are new pescatarians. We're also participating in a no added sugar challenge. Needless to say it's been difficult to find food options outside of our own home cooked meals. Junzi made it easy. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Upon telling them of these very specific dietary restrictions they used a reference binder to look up the ingredients for all toppings and sauces without added sugar. Not once did I feel like I was a burden. They were patient and seemed happy to explain my options. We enjoyed a spring noodle bowl with mushrooms, tofu, jaja sauce, a mixture of fresh vegetables, and garlic chili sauce. Also enjoyed the oolong tea, which was unsweetened! The food is delicious and fresh, but more importantly the staff appreciates, understands and welcomes unique dietary requests. We will be back soon! read more

We came here twice in one day! The first time, we had two delicious Chun Bing for dinner, and loved it so much that we brought some friends back only three hours later. Their Chun bing is fresh pressed from dough so that it retains its chewiness. And the vegetables and toppings range from traditional greens to lesser known Chinese ingredients and flavors. Went for lunch today and ordered the spring noodle bowl. The food was absolutely great for both the quality (e.g. freshness) and the flavor. With an Asian background, at the beginning I was afraid that the food would be tailored too much in order to fit Americans' flavor preference. Nonetheless, the Junzi Kitchen did find a perfect balance between being authentic and being appealing to a general audience here. yes this is the chinese chipotle! The food was very good , the service was very slow and if you would like a place to sit with friends there is really no dining area to speak of. My only complaint is that the amount of food is very small for the price especially when ordering a bing roll. Junzi is the bomb. One of the most exciting new dining establishments to arrive in New Haven, offering a very different take on "Chinese" food than your standard takeout fare. It's fast casual in the style of Chipotle, and you get to build your own wraps and noodle bowls. The prices are on the higher end but the quality of the food is excellent for a fast food place. Everything is seasoned well and the sauces are fantastic. It's inauthentic in a fun, deliberate way. I have to delude myself into believing the food is healthy otherwise I'd be ashamed by how often I dine here! read more

Junzi is absolutely my favorite place to eat out in New Haven. It is extremely vegan and vegetarian friendly, with generous portions at good prices. For vegans, I recommend a heaping bowl of knife noodles with sesame sauce, tofu and mushrooms for the main attraction, and all of the vegetable add-ons. If you're looking for a lighter meal, a single bing hits the spot. The staff keep the line moving so the wait is never very long, and are friendly and gracious in the process. I like this place so much that I had them cater a small event in September. The attendees were thrilled. Junzi's weekend Night Lunch is also a fun dinner destination. The menu is entirely different from the daytime fare, and usually includes a creative dessert. Cannot recommend Junzi highly enough! read more

Junzi is a great place to pick up a reasonably priced, reasonably healthy, tasty lunch. I'm a big fan of both the bings and the noodles. My only complaint is the portion sizes. For me, a noodle bowl is a little too much for one meal but not enough for two. One bing usually isn't quite enough, but two is too much. But the tofu is some of the most delicious tofu that I've ever had. And they change out some of the toppings fairly regularly with vegetables that are in season, which I appreciate. If there is a line, it moves quickly. There are only a handful of seats and not much ambience; it's much more of a grab and go place. read more

A missed opportunity. Friendly staff but the place is already looking a bit worn. No, it looked rather dirty. Two of us ordered bowls- one with possibly the chewiest beef I have ever encountered and the other the most tasteless chicken. And the add ons did little to elevate the meal. The tomato sauce kinda reminds me of my Italian grandmother's marinara sauce. Stopped by here while visiting the Yale campus. Beef is really tender and noodles had an excellent texture.
