Okay, it is just a take out joint...but such tasty food! One thing I can say, consistent. Good value, we usually get two meals out of our order. Take out, or delivery, up to later hours, seven days a week, Baos is there to fill your belly. Our favorites: As a vegetarian, I find a good selection of options. General Tso's tofu, pan fried dumplings, crispy spring rolls, Pad Thai, spicy noodles, assorted vegetable entrees are all worthy of a taste. This was my first time ordering from Bao's, and not being familiar with the area, I used Yelp's reviews to choose a good place. I'm glad I did! My order was taken clearly and quickly by phone using the menu I found on http://baoskitchen.chinesemenu.com/ . A small order of 2 appetizers and a main course: Golden Fingers, Crab Rangoons, and General Tso's Chicken. All very typical Chinese take-out fare. First, the rangoons; very good. They tasted like they were made with actual crab meat (not fake stuff), and were crispy and not greasy. They were the once-folded then fried types (some Chinese take out places make the twice-folded kind). They were crispy and hot. Then the chicken fingers. I was expecting what I usually find when I order these from any other place (greasy, doughy, but dry chicken), but was surprised to find they were crispy and golden, not at all greasy, and the chicken was moist and tender. Now onto the General Tso's... I was blown away! I have to say I've eaten General Tso's from no less than 20 Chinese restaurants in my time, but this was probably the best I've had! It was spicy but not eye-poppingly hot, crispy but not tough, and like the golden fingers, the chicken was tender and moist. I think this is how this meal was MEANT to be made. Oh, and the pieces were nice and bite-sized, not huge, stuck-together chunks like you would expect to get. The guy who did the delivery was extremely friendly and accommodating, thanked me numerous times and told me his name no less than twice, but being the cad that I am, I have forgotten the nice guy's name. The only thing that keeps me from giving them a 5-star rating, it would be the lack of the usual red sweet-and-sour sauce for dipping the fried items (instead I was given an orange-y sauce that was tasty, but still I like the red sweet-and-sour), and... this part I'm almost hesitant to say... there were no free sodas! I've gotten so used to getting free sodas with Chinese food, I've come to expect it. Spoiled American I am! But I will go back, and I will order my own damn soda. And hopefully they have the red sweet-and-sour sauce to order. read more

To sum... generally good, but erratic. My review may be more applicable to dieters than to anyone else. I've eaten here three times. My benchmark for judging any new Chinese restaurant is their hot and sour soup. Generally, Bao's is very good, although I've had to adjust it once or twice with a bit of vinegar. Otherwise, nice flavor and very thick with pork, tofu, and other yummies. Their chicken vegetable soup is also quite good, with tons of veggies. Otherwise, I always get one of the diet platters - steamed chicken and vegetables. You wonder, how could anyone screw this up, right? Heh, well, it's possible. They have been a bit erratic in the quality of the sauce that is provided on the side. I think it has been different all three times I've gotten this dish, and most recently, on a Tuesday, they provided no sauce at all, only a little tub of soy sauce, so I had to make my own! Also on this Tuesday, it was heavy on the broccoli and very light on the chicken. (On this same day, they also screwed up my order, giving me a small rather than large soup. Of course I was at home and not feeling well when I realized it, so didn't fight it.) No one was in there on a Tuesday, not even kitchen staff! I think i would advise avoiding it on this day, and maybe stick to the high volume days (Thurs-Sun) when full staff is on duty. I actually would have given 2 or 3 stars. But that's IT. I went low so people might realize the great reviews are all years old. I happened to not order Chinese for a while and this was not even as good as last time I ordered. Everything was undercooked (like Fried rice) or overcooked, as if it had been made ahead -- WAY too long made ahead, and heated more again and again (like boneless spare ribs). Or made ahead and microwaved? Like Steamed Dumplings. Dough was undercooked, pork filling overcooked. wtf? Basically, everything tasted wrong. Nothing tasted fresh, even the undercooked items, so I wonder what happened there. The undercooked items weren't raw, didn't seem dangerously undercooked... just wrong, rushed. This was NOT a fresh vegetables situation where maybe they were cooked less than you're accustomed to. And there just weren't that many vegetables in mixed dishes. Also a big disappointment was Shrimp in Lobster Sauce. It was a weird soup. Not SAUCE. I ate a couple of shrimp when we got it, and they seemed okay. But after experiencing everything undercooked or overcooked, I just threw the rest of it out the next day. I am not a picky eater nor picky about restaurants. But all the different levels of undercooking and overcooking made me wary. Reheated and ate some fried rice today. And then I threw all of everything away. I LOVE Chinese food leftovers. Reheating RICE and something was still wrong got to me. Now I'm realizing, actually 1 star is right overall. I started my review based on when I got it, and trying not to be mean. Some of it tasted okay, one day. But if you don't trust it to eat leftovers?... That is not good Chinese food. (I'm not from France! Tried changing -- Yelp keeps putting me in San Francisco. My stars are for the steamed vegetable dumplings and them alone. I am vegan and have had many veggie dumplings in ny and ct. These have the BEST consistency plus you get 8 instead of the usual 6 for $4.50. The flavor is bangin and i never use restaruant dumpling sauce. Just a little gluten free soy sauce from my fridge. I was told that this place was highly rated, so I decided to give them a try. Big mistake! I went to pick up my small order and it wasn't ready after placing it an hour earlier. What's worse, the cook came out of the bathroom pulling up his fly zipper. It's obvious he didn't wash his hands. I turned around and walked out. Isn't there a board of health to check these places out? Their rise to fame came about years ago when city hall higher-ups endorsed them in "the voice" and through paid advertising. For what Bao's does, they do well, and that to me would be Chinese take out with free delivery. I probably wouldn't dine in there in a million years (tiny seating area typical of take out places, with zero ambiance and lots of foot traffic for food pick up) but on a Sunday night when I don't feel like cooking or leaving the house, I give them a call. Sometimes the food is a bit inconsistent from prior experiences, but it is usually good. Egg rolls, pork fried rice, crab rangoon are all good. I'm a fan of their hot and sour soup. Chicken with vegetable soup is good if you want something bland. My favorite menu item is the pan fried dumplings with ginger sauce. I like the shrimp with string beans in garlic sauce which is part of a combo meal that comes with pork fried rice and an eggroll for about $7. Everything I've tried has at least been decent. Only once when we tried one of the healthy selections was I disappointed: very tasteless and the accompanying sauce had an odd flavor, though this was luckily served on the side. I have to agree with one of the other reviews: their 'spicy' doesn't have much of a kick. You also have to request hot mustard packets because they don't tend to include them, though you will get soy and duck sauces automatically, as well as fortune cookies. Basically if you live in the vicinity and have about $25 cash on hand, you can have an ample Asian feast for two delivered to the comfort and privacy of your home. The food is always piping hot even if we wait a few minutes to eat it. Remember to tip your delivery person! I swear Bao himself has been to my house on more than one occasion, and that's pretty cool. read more

I love fantail shrimp and most places provide it double and tripled dipped in batter. Not here, it is lightly breaded and I get what I asked for a fantail shrimp!! The lunch specials are a bargain for the price, and the delivery time is so fast you would think for sure that they cook in a van on the way to deliver! It's not going to be any kind of authentic Chinese food, but come on, you know better than to think that, right? The egg roll is just ridiculous - it's the same size as my wrist -- you can get full off that alone! My go-to's are my favorite bastardized American Chinese classics: beef with broccoli, general tso's SHRIMP, and steamed pork dumplings. Delish! Super salty, as expected for Chiense food. My only qualm with this place is when you order delivery at night to a large work business, they call you and ask you to come out of the building and find them where it's convenient for them (outside the building) so they don't have to park/find you.
