Came in on Tuesday right before noon for lunch. This was my first time to the restaurant and I was pleased to find free two hour street parking right next to the restaurant. The place had a really nice and chill vibe, really nice decor and a great spot for a somewhat nice lunch. They were serving their lunch menu and I ended up getting the mussels pad Thai, and a chicken curry puff appetizer and a Thai tea. The Thai tea was solid, and the chicken curry puffs were very good. But the stand out was the pad Thai. I've never had a creamy pad Thai and this was amazing. So flavorful. I didn't know what to expect with the mussels but I loved the mussels in the shell and it added a great flavor to the dish! I will definitely be coming back again to order this, and try some of their other items! read more

This is supposedly the best Thai restaurant in Connecticut. Delicious! Crab Fried Rice: The rice grains were separate and refreshing, but lacked wok hei 鑊氣, resembling crab meat and scrambled eggs mixed with rice. The sauce was similar to Thai seafood sauce, but thicker, with a very strong garlic kick. Mixing it into the rice added a clever touch, cutting through the richness without making it soggy. Long Island Duck Pineapple Curry: Recommended by the owner. My first time trying a sweet and sour curry; the refreshing pineapple balanced well with the rich curry. The duck was just okay, mainly because it was too dry. Mango Sticky Rice: A pleasant surprise; my parents also loved it. The coconut milk had a strong sea salt and caramel flavor, likely due to the addition of coconut sugar or palm sugar. Steamed Vegetables: Just steamed vegetables, without any seasoning. This place was huge inside. Very dark. Lychee soda: NOT CARBONATED. Disappointing. 2/10 Thai Iced Tea: extremely sweet and too much cream. 2/10 Crab Fried Rice: a dish they are known for. They don't skimp on the crab or egg. The rice is made with butterfly pea tea to color it blue. That was fun. It was a wok-y flavor and overall solid. Something that was concerning, was that the cilantro lime sauce helped the fried rice A TON. and I think that if you can't eat something without a sauce then it's kinda a sign that it's not the best... for $28, I would not get it again. This was the only dish we ate. 7/10 Tom Yum Shrimp: the entree size had peanuts but the appetizer didn't. Weird. This was by far, the WORST tom yum i have ever tasted in my life. It was sweet. No sour from the tamarind. No tomato flavor. No lime. Only sweet. What in the world????? 0/10 Drunk Man Noodles: no flavor except spicy. Missing MSG, wok flavor, soy sauce, sugar, literally anything. Im a big fan of Thai food and this place came recommended for a fun birthday lunch. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown New Haven/Yale area. There is street parking if you can find a spot as I didn't see any parking garage close by. The restaurant offered both indoor and outdoor dining and while both lovely, I opted for outside dining area to enjoy the summer day. Outside had a lovely water fountain in the center with plenty of potted greens and flowers. It was a very relaxing atmosphere. The menu had a large variety of typical Thai staples with their own spin on it. They have a section of vegetarian items as well for those non meat eaters out there! They did a really great job of accommodating our party of over 10 people at the last minute! Many of us were in town for a Yale graduation and didn't plan things quite properly lol. The servers were really sweet and wanted to make sure we had a great experience. It truly felt like we were at someone's home having dinner. Finally had a chance to dine in at September in Bangkok for my husband's birthday. Food was again absolutely outstanding. Just the right amount of spice, generous portions, and packed with flavor. The cocktails were also great! Very unique. Everything other than food and drinks though was quite lacking. The ambiance is okay but decor feels a little dated. Also, shocked to say that it was actually too quiet in the restaurant. We could unfortunately hear every word of the awful first date happening next to us. The service was also very poor from the moment we got there. The hostess essentially did not speak at all, nearly just communicating in grunts. I actually don't even really know who our server was because several similarly tight lipped people came by to drop things off and collect them. The person who took our order had come by first to drop off water but did not say anything so I thought they were maybe support for service, but then later she took our order? It was very weird. No one ever came back to check on us. Never saw that same person again. I normally tip very well but downgraded as I honestly don't even know who I was tipping. So I did enter with high expectations, and while it was not a bad experience, possibly just not the right night, I was underwhelmed. The space was nicely decorated, but very open and sound really traveled. For me personally, not the most comfortable. Service was friendly enough, nothing really negative there, except for the food coming out almost too quickly, and the experience feeling a bit rushed overall. I had a blue tea lemonade which I enjoyed. There were 2 of us, and we just ordered to share. We ordered the coconut shrimp, mango & melon salad, veggie & tofu pad Thai, and the pineapple fried rice with salmon. The coconut shrimp were well fried if fairly average. The salad was probably my favorite part of the meal. The flavors and textures were very well balanced and bright. The pad Thai was very heavy/saucy, which was not for me. I preferred the fried rice, which was huge, but another good, not great. So I would say overall it was not a necessarily bad experience, but I was let down. We really enjoyed all 4 items we ordered. The TomYum Shrimp soup was spicy and delicious. The pineapple rice salmon was so wonderfully prepared and presented, with lots of yummy pineapple throughout, and a nice piece of grilled salmon. The crab fried rice was a good as the reviews said it was, the side sauce was delicious and interesting. Our final dish was the milk noodles with coconut veggie dish and it was just as good as the other three items. Service was wonderful. Waiter was attentive, chef came out at the end to check on us. I was in the mood for Thai, and wanted to go to dinner somewhere nice, and September in Bangkok provided an amazing experience for both these goals. I started with an appetizer special, the laab tofu. I hope this makes it onto the main menu, because this was insanely delicious and flavorful, while still being light and a nice appetizer! The grilled Faroe salmon was SO delicious as well. This was my first time trying salmon in a coconut curry sauce (two things I love on their own), and the combo was everything I could've hoped for. The salmon was so tender and light that it nearly melted in my mouth, and the curry sauce brought in a delicious flavor that blended well with the salmon and didn't overpower. And the rice! It's steamed with butterfly pea flower, so it's blue. So fun!! I loved it. Service was great, we never ran low on water and staff were incredibly kind. We were also seated right away on a Saturday night, which was great. Really delicious and well worth it. I hope I can be back soon. read more

Definitely a restaurant you need to visit if you're only in New Haven for a bit. My friend brought me here when we visited her - and I loved it! I got the shroom curry and it was scrumptious, not too spicy but sooo flavorful (and if you're concerned about spice I'm not that good with it and I was able to enjoy it). We all enjoyed our meals, but the curries were definitely the highlights! Darker lighting, but they had an external patio with tons of lights, which I'm sure is nice in the summer. The best Thai food so far in CT ! They intergrated various different spices on the original recipes, and the umamy taste of the dishes are elevated in a good way. Each dish has its own flavors, unlike other places having no distinction between dishes. I love there crab fried rice and the shrimps saussage (they don't make that any more ) They offer great service too, the host and waiters/waitresses are always friendly and professional. You oay good price for a great service. I recommend to have dinner here with family or group of friends or just a date night. They will arrange the seats to suit the mumber of your party. We went there many times for both lunch and dinner but we preffer dinner atmosphere with beautiful lights and elegant interior designs. read more

Consistently great, never had a bad meal. The seafood is fresh, the curries always pack a punch. My most recent meal was Grilled Skirt Steak NUM TOK. The steak was tender, spicy and full of flavor. I ended my meal with mango sticky rice, a must! The rice had a nice sticky consistency which soaked up the warm salty/sweet milk paired which nice cool, refreshing mango. I am very surprised that this restaurant has such a high rating. The ambiance feels like manufactured fancy - dark purple decor and chandeliers - without real substance. The "blue rice" they serve is sort of symbolic of this also- it sounds novel but ultimately is not really anything except white rice dyed pale blue (which ends up just being disconcerting). The energy in the restaurant despite all the glitz just falls flat. The food was fine - got the Panang curry with tofu and ginger tofu. The curry was very thin. I ordered Tom Yum Shrimp and Larb for take out. The tom Yum Shrimp was delicious with one jumbo (not overcooked) shrimp. The Larb (essentially seasoned ground meat) was put in a brown cardboard take out container with a salad. When I got it home, salad was soggy from packing it with the warm Larb. Very disappointed. I thought the lettuce (the way the hostess explained it to me would have been more like lettuce wrap sizes) and stored in a separate container to prevent the liquids from the meat choices soaking the lettuce and cold vegetables. UPDATE!!! immediately after I posted this review I heard from the business owner, who was very appreciative of my feedback, responsive, and apologetic. The fact that they took a customer review very seriously and respond by taking responsibility for the miss step. I really appreciated that and would never hesitate to go back or recommend them in the future. I was in New Haven and looking for a tasty lunch, option on a workday and stumbled across the reviews for this place. As a result, I decided to give it a try. Overall, I was not left, feeling that the reviews justified the quality of what I got for food and service. First off, this is located on a major roadway with side streets close by. Unless you park on the major roadway, you will not likely be able to find parking as a side streets are limited to local residence only. On the main streets, you have metered parking with the parking application for the city of New Haven available as well. I parked about half a block away under the highway underpass and walked back to the restaurant. The interior decor is beautiful. It is not that big of a footprint, at least what it looks like from initial entrance. However, it does appear that there's a fairly significant back room area, which would increase the total seating of the restaurant. With regards to food, I ordered the Samosa rolls And a chicken basil dish. I also ordered a soda. The service took a while to come and take my order, and I took a significant amount of time to get my drink. Once it arrived, they had messed up and given me the diet equivalent of what I had ordered. As it took a long time for anyone to even come and check on me, I just ended up drinking what I got, though it was not what I had requested. With regards to the Samosa rolls, the name does not match what is delivered. A Samosa normally is based in potatoes and peas or some other Fatty and starchy items that can note a rich flavor with deep spices. This was a Park cooked onion, carrot and pea spring roll with no cohesiveness or flavor other than that of deep fried. The vegetables inside were not cooked fully through leaving them an odd consistency for what one would expect from a Samosa. With the chicken, basil dish, the rice comes on the side and had a weird color to it when it arrived. I mixed it with the chicken and the taste was OK. It was nothing special and nothing I would ever order again. Frankly, there are much better Thai options in downtown New Haven as well as better ones up north towards the Hartford area. Overall, this is a three star option at best based on the food quality and taste of product received. I would not go out of my way to try this place for lunch, especially as it tends to be on the pricier end for Thai restaurants in the area. read more

Great Thai food with a very nice environment in New Haven. I tried several different dishes and they were all flavorful and tasty. Pulled Pork See Ew ($18)- I appreciated the slight uniqueness of having pulled pork with the noodles and it was a tasty combo. The noodles also had a nice flavor and were cooked to a good consistency. Lychee Duck ($29)- The duck was cooked really well so that the meat was tender and bones were not an issue at all. The lychees in the dish added some nice sweetness, while the sauce was super flavorful with a bit of a spicy kick to complete the dish. Seafood Kari ($30)- This dish featured a mix of different seafood with some egg and veggies. It was pretty good, but I was disappointed by the fact that there was only one singular scallop in the whole dish. Also, while the mussels were very big, they were a bit tough/chewy. I thought $30 was a bit much for this considering the amount/mix of seafood. The environment of this place does kind of make it feel like September in Bangkok at a nice restaurant, with a really pleasant outdoor patio area for seating along with a tastefully decorated and modern interior. They even added some Mother's Day balloons around the restaurant to celebrate the day. There is plenty of seating available in the spacious restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful. The service speed is pretty quick. The waiter did drop my credit card and return it in a rather oily state, but I won't fault him too much for that. Overall, with high quality authentic Thai food and an aesthetic and pleasant outdoor and indoor environment, September in Bangkok earns a very solid 4 stars from me. read more

Food was amazing! This is not your typical Thai/ Asian restaurant. Flavors were more bold and presentation is beautiful. The decor was also very nice with intimate lighting. Drinks were very good but only wished they did not run out of sake and added more tofu to our green curry, we only had about 4 pieces. Really random and fun in that they decorate for Halloween and the rice is blue. We ordered: Steak salad- really good. September in Bangkok is by far my FAVORITE Thai food I have tried.  Upon arriving, I was happy to see that there was ample street parking - so I did not have to worry about parking and walking far in the rain. Getting inside, the restaurant looks a lot smaller than it actually is. I was expecting to wait for a table, but there was a huge back room you can't see from the front. Service was pretty quick and our food was delivered efficiently. The food I had was shared with three other people, but I loved all of it. My favorite dishes were definitely the Grilled Skirt Steak NUM TOK, Saigon Crispy Rolls, and Pulled pork see ew. This one has been on my list after seeing many online recs, finally got the chance to visit and it was well worth the wait. We had the Pad Thai and Massaman Chicken and split a Thai iced tea. Everything was delicious and really just highlights the fact that New Haven has much better Asian food (and pizza) than anywhere in Fairfield County. Service was also attentive and friendly. UPDATE: I wanted to share an update- the restaurant reached out and personally apologized for what happened during our previous visit. They also mentioned that they spoke with their staff about it, which I really appreciate. We were here for an hour but the whole time we felt uncomfortable. We were a party of 6 and the service was quite honestly horrible. Not only that but it was supposed to be a special occasion as stated in the reservation but the place was NOT busy and we were NOT checked on by the waiter once our whole dinner. I wanted to say something but I did not want to come off as aggressive- but I will say I'm extremely disappointed since the food was delicious. My FAVORITE Thai food in the New Haven area! The Pad Thai here is an amazing balance of all the right flavors and super fresh! I tried the Tofu Eggplant Thai Basil Stir Fry and now I am OBSESSED. A small dislike was like the crab Rangoons. They're thick, huge, and WAY too clumpy. It was so heavy and not proportioned correctly. I stopped after eating one. We've had our mind on this spot for a while so we decided to check it out. The ambiance is soooo beautiful this is definitely a perfect spot for a date. The foood the food the foooood, was very good the flavors were spot on. The lychee in curry works, that's genius! The ceviche wasn't for us. But everything else was spot on. The Jasmine tea, the presentation of how it was given loved it. Only problem we had was that spicy lycheecello the drink was more spice than anything else, I promise you the drink remained at the same level I took the photo. We've had spicy margaritas, so to taste just pepper when having this drink was ridiculous. We tried asking to change the drink and the manager was telling us nonsense as if we didn't know what we're talking about. She did end up making the drink over and in our open we were better off just changing the drink. The spice we had in the drink was the spice we asked for in our meal which didn't happen.
