We when here after a wedding. Immediately walking in a dog jumped up to me and started balking. I went before the wedding group and asked if it was okay to bring 20-30 last minute. The guy basically said everyone is welcome, but I'm only one here and I'm slow. He was very nice even with the very drunk people. If you're looking for interesting dive bar this is more interested than many. The guy asked me what I wanted and I was like I'm beyond good. And he gave me a water in a scotch glass and kept telling people it was vodka if it came up. The had Guinness for $8. Otherwise they had several different kinds of light beer and a decent selection of non top shelf liquor. In order to use the stall you have to shimmy/touch the person currently using the urinal. The ceiling tiles in the back look like they are falling down. They have a nice futsbol table and two picnic tables in the back patio. read more

Ended up at Art's late on a Saturday after driving in from Seattle via Minneapolis. The infamous proprietor was tending bar and honed in on my ethnic heritage, making irreverent comments that were refreshing in this uptight culture. All the patrons laughed when I responded, "I didn't kill him personally," to his query regarding the following day being Easter. Of course, this is the quintessential Milwaukee bar, Art's representing the working class beer and a shot heritage of the Cream City. Just Art's made me think Henry Meier was still the mayor. It's a dive bar. Don't go in expecting any different. The type of place that has dusty taps and a tub full of ice water housing a case of Pabst. My friend and I were lucky to have stumbled in on a Saturday night. Sit around with other great patrons and enjoy conversation, hilarious jokes, and a game of bar dice(art was nice enough to explain the rules to us). Also I have to remark at the fact that trail mix was provided and There was some food options but we didn't partake. Art has been a bartender for almost 40 years and is a staple in Walker's Point. His bar is like a random oasis where you find this cool bar in the middle of all of the new hip places. It's a refreshing change back to old school. There is no stated food menu but Art will always cook up a delicious pizza that he preps the prior night at a very reasonable price. Sometimes he just doesn't feel like cooking much and will put out a smorgasbord of deep fried goodness for free. You can't knock free onion rings and fries! Every year Art throws his Art Attack party to celebrate his heart attack years ago and serves only deep fried food. Art definitely is a character and can be polarizing if you talk politics - so don't do it! He will throw in a few racy jokes with bad puns into the mix so expect an engaging owner with witty retort. Discovering Just Arts this past weekend was like uncovering a buried treasure. Just Arts is a neighborhood gem situated in an area that has undergone dramatic change throughout the years from an industrial corridor to chic lofts and restaurants. Just Arts has remained the same since its creation 29 years ago. The bar itself is the perfect neighborhood tavern with a long bar out near the entrance, a back bar with a vintage foosball table, and a patio. Just Arts has some great weekly food specials and excellent brews on tap. The people are what really makes Just Arts so special. Art himself is a white bearded guy whose look evokes Ernst Hemingway. Art is a wonderful guy to talk to. It's obvious how much his staff and patrons love him when they happily greet him or play a game of dice with him. The bartenders are super nice as well. There's no snobby attitudes here, just excellent service. Just Arts is such a great neighborhood bar. It's one of those bars that you step into a little bit back in time with its decor, but in the present time with its young staff and clientele who keep Art young. Just Arts is my new favorite bar in Milwaukee. There's nothing like an old school, laid back bar to drink some brews and play some dice at. read more

Attention people of Milwaukee. NO, attention people of the world! You need to get your booty off of your current bar stool and walk, drive, run your way over to Just Art's. [Not to be confused with Art's Performing Center - yeesh] This place is a slice of history - it's been around for 30+ years and I'm pretty confident in saying that it hasn't changed a lick on the inside since. That means that this place along, with the same owner have ridden out the 80's, 90's and today in the exact location. Art is typically still slinging drinks in the bar - at just over 70 years old, this man is a bank of glorious stories - which he will not hold back filling you in on. I met the man once and felt like I could sit there for hours sipping Miller High Life's while he tells me stories of the past as well as his hopes for the future. HINT - he wants to sell the joint, buy a RV and drive off into the sunset. While at Arts you can expect friendly service, fantastic pricing and free fries on Thursday - yes please. Two of my favorite things - FREE & FRIES. If you love trying new places, well, new old places. I highly suggest stopping in before Art bows out. You will not be disappointed. PS. They sell Just Arts Fanny packs for $7. If you don't own one when you leave, you really aren't living and I don't really feel the need to know you any further. read more

I first visited Just Art's Saloon (there is no 3 in the name Mr./Ms. Editor) around 17 or 18 years ago. A buddy of mine took me there to meet up with his friend who tended bar there. The bar had a cool, divey vibe and Art was a colorful character adding to the good times. Fast forward to current day...I have a few other friends that have become regulars and they hosted a private Packers Game Party (you can host one too, just ask). Art looks the same way he did 18 years ago and he is still a character, telling jokes, flirting with the pretty ladies and throwing in a little sarcasm every now and then. In fact, he may start you out with the sarcasm or a "smart" comment to test your character and see if he'll like you. If he does, then you get to hear his jokes and trivia. He is a sharp guy and dropped some literary and historic knowledge on a recent visit. There is an outdoor deck for smokers that has a full bar and TV for use in the summer (actually the TV is always on). There is also a back room that would work well for parties. Art's also serves food so you can hang out for a while and not have to leave your bar stool if you're hungry. Shame on me for letting so many years pass between visits. The ORIGINAL rock-and-roll, blue-collar, down-to-earth, down-on-your-luck, classic Milwaukee dive bar. And, sadly, the last of its kind in the Fifth Ward, an area formerly populated by nothing BUT nickel-a-beer taverns and rundown roadhouses. I have nothing but the highest respect in the world for a bar that keeps it THIS honest, this real and THIS cheap, at a time when this Tenderloin neighborhood is rapidly morphing into the new Hell's Kitchen. Many people know this place as a drinking destination with one of the most original and unusual patios in town, but their food menu is actually very impressive. I have relied on Art and his girls to toss me many a life-saving, homemade, hand-topped pizza in the past few years. Impossibly good and almost impossible to stop eating. But it's not just pizza and dice, it's everything from fish fries to pig roasts, from spaghetti dinners to stroganoff. And I'm told -- although I (shamefully) have never been -- that the fish fries are incredible. But the most incredible thing is that Art himself has kept this place up and running through 30+ years of Fifth Ward abandon, rediscovery and redevelopment. The bar is the last survivor of a row of early 20th century shacks that lined Second Street -- and losing it for big-box, big-window development would be a travesty. Check out Art's SOON. Hey now, I found a new dive! Stopped in here after a long day moving my girlfriend's ridiculous paraphernalia from her old apartment to ye olde storage unit. Moving makes me cranky, and this watering hole was in my sights when we started working, so after we were done we went inside for a beer. We were greeted by the jovial, rotund owner who was funny and personable from the get-go. It was happy hour, so we enjoyed some snacks including some very respectable bar wings. I'd check it out if you're in the neighborhood. It's a little hard to see if you're not looking for it, but worth the effort if you can spot it from the road. On Wed you get good FREE pizza from 7 to 11! On Thurs pretty good Wings for .30 cents a piece! Where else can you get Tater Tots with your Friday fish Fry! Love this place! This place is my new favorite dive bar. I'm a huge Walker's Point fan having faith in it since I bought my house there in 2005. So coming to town and having friends suggest we go to Arts was fantastic. Let me start off by saying they have a parking lot so already off to a good start. The weather couldn't have been any better and the outside bar was perfect for some pitchers of beer. My best friend kept raving about the fries here (for real she said they are "the best fries ever" numerous times) and it turned out the fryer was done for the night, but we could still order a pizza. I was thinking dive bar pizza- you know the Tombstone in the pizza toaster- not the case at all! This pizza was huge and amazing! So come thirsty & hungry because Art's will take care of you. PS: Like a true dive bar the bartender was giving me shit like he would his long term friends. I later learned this is Art himself. Well thank you Art because real personalities are rare here in L.A. where I currently live. Milwaukee has my heart and it's places like this that are exactly why. read more

Joined some friends for Summerfest 2016's last weekend and they brought us to this place because they themselves have been enjoying it for years. Everything they told us about the place was on point, it was a fun small place with cheap drinks and a hell of an owner/bartender. We showed up around 9pm i think and no one was in the front bar so we had it all to ourselves. Awesome awesome time, Art himself was our bartender and between all the banter and laughter he made some good and quick drinks along with a very tasty pizza. Thanks Art for an awesome time and all the new crazy jokes i will now have to use with other people. Shortly after leaving and going to another bar i was told that the place would possibly be sold, i hope it holds out for a couple more years so we can come back or i hope the new owners keep it and its environment. Cute back room, super friendly staff, nonjudgmental patrons (sometimes these dive bars have locals that turn their nose up at "strangers"), decently priced and oh by the way... That pizza is AMAZING! The best dive bar in Milwaukee! Art makes you feel like he has known you for years when you are in his establishment. Its a dysfunctional Cheers feeling! My best girlfriend and I stumbled into the bar late last night and we were welcomed by Art and his very patient and sweet bartender. We laughed the entire time we were there by Arts jokes and pick up lines. We left with a T-shirt, pen and bottle opener as souvenirs. It was my friends first time in Milwaukee and my first time at Arts. Not only did we enjoy the Laguanitas on tap and the entertainment we also got "warm chocolate fresh baked cookies!"
