The instructors are all fabulous and very encouraging. They are very supportive of a new person trying to do the exercises properly. The 45 and 60 minute classes are over before you know it and you feel great mentally and physically afterwards. You can tailor things to your strengths and weaknesses with different sized weights and alternate positions. There are people of all ages and sizes. I can't recommend it enough.

The next two teachers didn't work as well for me - clearly knew their stuff, but weren't oriented toward beginners and seemed irritated when I would ask questions. I emailed the owner, Melissa, to give her some feedback on this and ask her advice. When I sent that message - friendly, complimentary of much of my experience while critical of the lack of beginner support - I expected a response in kind. Instead, I got some of what seemed like random boilerplate ("we offer group exercise classes" - yes, I know, I've been to three of them!), some defensiveness ("my teachers have worked here for five years!"), and some PR-speak ("Barre3 is as much about community as the workout itself. Our goal is for our clients to leave feeling stronger and more empowered"), but very few answers. I asked which teachers would be best for beginners and was told "all of our teachers have their own teaching style," which doesn't help. Melissa did say she would show me the moves to help set me up for success. I also asked why they didn't have any plus-size clothing in their boutique area up front, and was told that they carry only a limited selection in the store but they have a sign stating they'll special-order other sizes. She even sent me a picture of the sign, which cracked me up - I believed her. I mentioned in my email reply that having any item in the store in a plus size would have helped me feel more included, and the answer was, "We are absolutely inclusive." That's....not how that works. I had no idea when I sent my initial message that I was going to end up being unwilling to go back to this studio! I'd expected a conversation to happen and for me to go back to certain teachers that were best for beginners, perhaps armed with modifications. But Melissa was so defensive and so unwelcoming that I don't feel comfortable returning. Luckily, there are many more barre studios in St. Louis.

Weights are involved in some exercises, but a lot of it involves lifting your own body weight. Lots of sweating and shaking of legs (they really work your butt muscles), but they encourage the shaking because it usually means you're truly challenging yourself. They also offer alternative positions if the default ones are just not working for you. I have only seen women in the classes, which I prefer because I feel a sense of camaraderie with them. Even if I have to modify my exercises, I always feel accomplished at the end. Since joining, my balance has gotten better, and my ab and butt muscles are stronger! Instructors are very motivational and friendly. During the classes, they sort of cheer you on, and they will walk around to check in with people individually, asking them how they are feeling and helping them make adjustments if necessary. They also make an effort to remember people's names. Bathroom is very clean! I give it 4 stars rather than 5 because the normal monthly membership is a little expensive for me. Could they offer a deal like, commit to 4 months and you get $20 off your monthly dues? Overall, I really enjoy Barre3, and it has helped my physical and mental wellness. **I would also like to add that the pictures in the description are accurate. Some companies will use pictures that are misleading and not representative of what the location actually looks like. Not the case with this one. They keep it very clean.**

Signed up for the 2-week unlimited thanks to Yelp and am completely infatuated with this class. The studio - modern, open, clean, cork floors, bathroom amenities. The instructors - I've had 5 different instructors in 9 classes and all were nice yet challenging. Sometimes hard to breakdown the move from words alone so mirrors were key in following along. The workout - I'm usually a gym/run rat but have dabbled in some class addictions. But, this class pushes me to my limits and fatigue my muscles. A great cardio, rear and core workout. Unfortunately, I'll be headed home to HI after 2 weeks here in STL and will need to breakup with you, Barre3. It was good while it lasted.

They required socks which I didn't bring since my gym is barefoot but she provided them to me to borrow which was nice. The workout space is uplifting and well lit with outside views which was a fun touch. It was a slower pace than what I'm used to with stops for stretching and putting weights away. The instruction was good with a lot of focus on technique which I appreciated. I definitely got that good barre shake. I prefer a faster paced class with more upbeat music but this was definitely a good way for me to mix up my routine.

I am not a fit person, I am working on it- and it can be very intimidating walking into a new class as the new and obviously most out of shape person, but the instructors are amazing and helping me modify the parts of the class that I can't do yet, and constantly keeping me engaged and motivated without feeling singled out. The other students are supportive and nice, not at all snobby and each class is different enough to keep me engaged. I leave feeling stronger than I left and I enjoy the challenge. Even if this style of class is foreign to you, keep going and keep working- you can find progress and always improve- it never gets easier and that is the sign of a GREAT workout!

I had never taken a Pure Barre class but I had heard of it from friends. A friend of mine gave me a…read morefree class pass, so I went and tried it out at the Ladue location. I was pretty nervous for my first class, and I had researched videos online of other people who had taken Barre and what to expect during class, so I was pretty ready for it. The first class was amazing! I hadn't worked out for a long time (1yr+), and I really felt like I got a full body workout. You will sweat but the class goes by really fast, because it's upbeat and the music definitely helps. I literally felt all of my muscles wake back up again and it was such a nice feeling after class. The only thing I wish they had was a shower in case we have to go to the office afterwards. The next day, I could tell that my mood was better, my diet was better, and I had a lot more energy. I couldn't wait to go back. I actually signed up for their $99 Intro Month package and I've been going 3 times a week. If you go 14 times in your Intro Month, you get free sticky socks :) Otherwise, your first class, you'll need to buy sticky socks for I think $25. I've already taken 5 Pure Barre classes and I've had a different teacher each time. Each teacher's style is different which I like because you work a different part of your body. For example, one teacher will really work abs, one will spend more time at the barre, one will focus more on arms, etc. I like the variety. I haven't take the Pure Empower or Pure Reform classes yet, but I heard Empower has a cardio component for weight loss and Reform uses the gliding disks to built strength. Can't wait to try those out too tbh. Before Pure Barre, I did spend a couple of years in dance and I also did Bikram Yoga for 10 years. I highly recommend Barre if you want a complete workout in a good environment. I can't wait to see my body change from this workout and I feel like I found something I can stick with and that I like a lot.
