My boys had both been with a private nanny their entire lives - and we were extremely nervous about transitioning them away from private home care and into a school environment. The Merryhill team was fantastic and so supportive during the transition. My youngest especially had a difficult time with the transition. The teachers were so patient and kind with his crying at drop off - and would provide us updates on how he was doing via the school app. I also really like how they have big windows into each classroom; I am able to watch my boys and see how happy they are in their classroom before they notice I am there to pick them up. Both of my boys absolutely adore their teachers (Ms. Lindsey, Ms. Liz, Ms. Nicole, and Ms. CeCe) and look forward to seeing their friends every day. Beyond my boys being comfortable and happy - they have also learned so much in their time at Merryhill. Nearly every day I'm surprised by something new they've learned - like my 4 year old learning how to count up to 100, count in tens, learning the months of the year, and starting to read. My youngest learns new words every day, has learned his colors, how to count to ten, and is learning important social skills (like how to share). When our oldest started there he had a bit of a hard time adjusting because he was coming from a nanny-share at home with one other younger child. The teachers were caring, patient and supportive, and after a few months he really blossomed and came out of his shell. They also helped us immensely with potty-training which was particularly challenging with our son (Thank you Susana!!). He has since made his way up through several different classrooms and will be starting TK in the fall. His current teacher Racquel is absolutely incredible. It's easy to see how passionate she is about child development and how much she genuinely loves and cares about each of her students. While we will miss her dearly, she is has done so much to prepare him for TK and beyond, and we couldn't be more grateful! Since our youngest started a little earlier, we got to meet a new room of toddler teachers who impressed us so much from day one (Kenzi, Izabelle & Yer). Our daughter wasn't quite walking yet, but they had her up and running within weeks. She often had a hard time with goodbyes in the morning, but the teachers always helped me feel at ease and I knew she would be in great hands. I feel like we were truly spoiled. Beyond out kids' individual classroom experiences, I think the school as a whole is run very well. I am heartbroken, angry, and deeply disappointed. My son is extremely high functioning. We have worked incredibly hard to support him -- I drive two hours twice a week to get him to occupational therapy, he will be receiving ABA support, and we've put countless hours into helping him thrive. Because of that work, he doesn't even qualify for speech therapy. He is a bright, loving, energetic three-year-old who deserves patience and understanding like any other child. Instead, we were essentially told he could not stay unless we provided a full-time one-on-one aide ourselves -- something that would mean paying tuition while also paying privately for someone to supervise him all day. As a parent, there is nothing more painful than watching your child start forming friendships and getting comfortable somewhere, only to be pushed out because he needs a little extra support. If a school is not equipped or willing to support neurodivergent children, families deserve honesty about that from the beginning. It would save parents and children a tremendous amount of heartbreak. Right now my momma heart is just broken. My son deserves a community that sees his potential and supports him -- not one that shuts the door on him. If you're a parent of a neurodivergent or high energy child, walk the other way. "Application" process was easy and I did a virtual tour via FaceTime with Millie (one of the owners). She was super calm and answered every single question I had & showed me every nook and cranny or the school and where kiddo was going to be. PK2 here we come! 1st day I don't think it ever gets easier sending your kiddo to a new school. Kiddo was a touch apprehensive of a new environment but Teacher Nikki was so incredibly warm and welcoming to kiddo (and hubs and I)! Immediately I knew he was going to be just fine. We met Teacher Monique the next day or so - they coteach PK2 - and she's a gem. Both teachers are warm & caring (like aunties) and their love for teaching shines through! The classroom Together Monique & Nikki have created a thriving classroom full of areas to explore with defined spaces & boundaries. There a reading circle, pet fish, reading pod, and then nap mats for the kiddos to use after lunch before afternoon activities. If the kids don't nap they do have the option to read/look at books quietly. The PK2 classroom has two restrooms with kiddo sized toilets and sinks. Each season brings new decorations to the classroom (and school). There are days when kiddo is having a rough morning and both Teacher Nikki and Teacher Monique are angels getting him into class quickly, settled and then sharing with us that he's ok which I so appreciate because there's nothing worse than leaving your kiddo in tears! The school overall Goddard does a host of extra activities- summer bbq, Father's Day celebration, Trunk-or-Treat, holiday concert to name a few. Each brings the Goodard teachers & families together in a special way, along all to get to know each other a little better, enabling us partner for our kid's. Goddard is a pretty special place. One that is developing our kid in an amazing way and preparing him for kindergarten!
