Update: I went for the second time and the portion of the large was significantly different(smaller) than the first time I got it. (Protein portion was the same--less fun fillers) . For those of you have been following me on this app for some time you know that's one of my biggest pet peeves. Still delicious and presented well. I'm gonna keep an eye on this and keep you guys updated!!

So happy we came here. If you want some real kine Hawaiian food, you gotta come here. Thank you for sharing the Aloha spirit.

Updated review from 2 Months ago…read more.. I've been back roughly 6 times from my previous review of Kona Kitchen. Then it was too many staff, not many customers and it was difficult to get service, that has been improved upon. They are nice and attentive when they see you. Service was normal, the wait staff came around and offered more beverage. This time it was still slow period, so what gives it only 3 stars instead of more? It's the fact that the main door the employee use to go into the kitchen to give their orders to the cooks had cob webs on the top of the door.i mean everyone of them walk through that door hundreds of times throughout the week because I could tell it's been there for some time. Where's the food inspector, should be a concern because if it's there in full view of customers and employees, what else is happening as far as cleanliness at Kona Kitchen. I will be there within two or three days and wonder if the cobweb will still be a fixture there... it's something that is annoying because nobody's done anything about it. Amazing.

Thankfully dine-in is back open again, so we got here on a Saturday morning around 11:20am to indoor seating that was nearly full and a small line that was forming at the front counter. Walls have a bunch of photo frames, and overall place felt very homely. They have a ton of Hawaiian style plates and even burgers and some seafood, though we and most others got the former to eat. I ordered their chicken and pork combo Hawaiian style plate, and my bestie got their chicken katsu Hawaiian style plate. Portions are huge for both plates and both also came with macaroni salad. They give you sooooo much meat no matter what you get. To go in slightly more detail: - Chicken and pork combo: both meats were flavored very well, and a little sweet too though pretty salty without using the rice as a palette cleanser. Chicken had more depth in its flavor; the pork's flavor was a little too much for my liking, and was slightly harder to chew. Both meats had some sauce hat went onto the rice itself. This didn't detract from my overall experience here, though. - Chicken katsu: we both agreed this was our favorite after exchanging pieces of each other's dish. The katsu is crispy and crunchy, and the chicken itself retained a lot of its juiciness. Katsu sauce on the side is honestly optional since the meat itself is already salty enough. This place does share extremely limited parking with Cakes of Paradise next door, so get here early or be prepared to drive around the area to find some. Just get here, it's a place you can't pass up when you hit up Georgetown!

I would have to say the most thing I enjoyed the most was the chili pepper water, it added the tanginess that the chicken needed and I was very pleased with the spice level. I am used to spice but this had a kick to it. I wish they sold the chili pepper water in bottles I would have loved to take more home! Can't wait to try their saimin and more items on the menu.

I also really appreciate their effort to make things right. Unfortunately, my order got mixed up with someone else's, and I didn't realize it until I got home. I went back, and even though there was a giant line, they immediately helped me and got everything corrected. Mistakes happen, especially when a place is busy. What matters is how you handle them, and they made the correction fast and painless. Great poke and great customer service. Thank you!

Traditional Limu Ahi, Spicy Sambal Ahi, Spicy Kiawe Smoked Hawaiian Tombo, Tamari Miso Garlic Salmon, Spicy Salmon, Yuzu Black Pepper Scallops, Spicy Oyster Sauce Ahi, and the Shoyu Limu Tako. Basically, I tried all the options on Saturdays and Tuesdays. While I'm not a connoisseur, all of the varieties had a buttery smooth texture, the hallmark of freshness, and the sauces they were dressed in were all perfectly balanced so it did not overwhelm the flavor of the meat. They trim the fish well, removing bloodlines and the tougher bits, which most other places leave in to get more weight out of their fish as well as saving on labor. As for sides, my top recommendation is the seaweed salad. It's fresh, crunchy, and again has the perfect balance of flavors. The mac salad is also really good, not laden down with the mayo dressing that other places tend towards. As for portion sizes, the regular is enough for two people.
