I visited Ono Poke on a Saturday afternoon to pick up my preorder for Butter Bandit and decided I might as well also get a bowl of poke. This was at 12:30PM and there was a long line out the door and around the corner, taking almost 30 minutes. I had previously visited on a rainy winter weekday for lunch and there wasn't a line at all. What a difference the day and weather can make! While in line we could see the chefs cutting up ahi fresh right in front. The longer line gave me time to chat with the owner as he was trimming off the skin and other bits. I learned that tuna skin is much tougher than salmon skin so can't be eaten like salmon skin chips. He also said that the trimmed parts can be taken for free if anyone wants them. Apparently they make good crab bait! Medium w/ Rice, Traditional Limu Ahi, Hamachi, Mac Salad ($21.50) - I love the Hamachi poke mix. It's fresh, tender, and buttery fish tossed in a creamy and slightly spicy sauce, filled with little briny pearls and plenty of aromatics giving a super umami bite. The Limu Ahi is very fresh as well - I mean, it's sliced right in front, and there's so much turnover of the food that's it's pretty much guaranteed fresh. The tuna is fresh and tender, but there's noticeably more sinew compared to the hamachi. The Mac Salad is also really good. It's super creamy and the macaroni isn't overcooked so it still has some bite. The rice is unfortunately the weakest item in the bowl. It's a little too dry for my tastes and is only lightly tossed with rice vinegar, giving a tangy flavor. Overall all the poke is fresh, the flavors all meld together into a delightful balanced bite, and the sauces are not overwhelming. Ono Poke definitely serves some great poke! Ono had been on my hit list for ages and now that I've finally been, I'm so sad that I don't live closer to Edmonds. They share parking spots with the rest of the plaza and it's not difficult to find a spot if you're willing to walk just a few extra feet. Went for an oddly timed meal on a Saturday around 4PM and they still had all their poke options. There are about 6-8 tables in the store, but quite a few folks take their meals to go. It's definitely not the cheapest meal option, but the poke is absolutely delicious and the fish is unbelievably fresh I tried the Shoyu Salmon, Spicy Tuna, and the Hamachi; all of them were incredible. The Hamachi is only available on weekends and the fish is so fatty it almost melts in your mouth with the creamy and tangy sauce. The Shoyu Salmon is incredibly succulent and just a classic knocked out of the park with a great balance of fresh, salty, and slightly sweet. After having this on my list for a long while, I finally made my way up to try this place out. And for a Saturday afternoon around 1230 this place was packed. And apparently rightfully so. The parking lot is pretty small and you may have to wait for parking. There are about 8-10 tables on the Inside and additional seating on the outside. You place your order at the register and can see the fish being prepared for poke. Even as long as the line was, once you place your order your food comes out pretty fast. Poke bowl comes with two poke options and one side. An additional serving of poke is $4. Each additional side is $1. So if you like your poke bowls loaded, it can get pretty expensive. Your base options are salad or rice. The poke itself is fresh and delicious. The tako is some of the best I have had. If I was in the area and had a hankering for poke, I'd definitely come back. Another tough pill to swallow is the prices being a bit higher but again, somewhat justified with high quality, decent quantity, and overall delicious. This is genuinely the best poké I've ever had in my life (I haven't been to Hawaii yet, lol). I am a poké addict, and I just about will stop by at any poké restaurant just to try it. This spot was recommended to me by a friend. The interior of the restaurant was warm and very decorated. There were a lot of Hawaiian cultural references, which added to the ambiance. The staff were so friendly and very helpful. And despite it being super busy the day that I went, they were all patient with each customer. I had a few samples of their fish, and let me tell you, the fish is FRESH. I am usually picky with tuna because they tend to have a fishy taste, but Ono's tuna was NOT fishy at all. Also, all the different flavors of poké were seasoned PERFECTLY. I got the spicy salmon and the scallop poke. They were both buttery and tender. The flavors did not overtake the natural flavor of the fish, and the sauce was seeped deep into the salmon; the same goes for the scallop. It's been awhile but finally got poke to go this month. This spot's our favorite poke place outside Seattle. We always come on Saturdays around opening since the hamachi always runs out later in the day due to the limited quantities. Service was quick and efficient as they have lots of staff. If paying by cash then customers got a slight discount. My family and I ventured out to Ono Poke for Father's Day lunch after hearing raving reviews from the Seattle Times, Eater Seattle, and close family friends. My dad grew up in Hawaii and so I've had my fill of poke growing up when we would visit (and still visit) family in Hawaii. And even after all the poke I've tasted in Hawaii, I have to say that Ono Authentic Hawaiian Poke is legit and might be the best poke I've ever had in my life! Ono imports their ahi from Hawaii and you can tell that all their fish is super fresh. Their selection varies daily, but on Father's Day, they had HAWAIIAN ALBACORE TOMBO, CREAMY SCALLOP, SPICY SALMON, SHOYU SALMON, SPICY AHI, & TRADITIONAL AHI. For sides, they had cucumber kimchi, macaroni salad, seaweed salad, vegan tofu, and edamame. We ordered one large Poke Plate (2 choice poke + 1 sides) and one regular Poke Plate (2 choice poke + 1 side) to share among the four of us, which ended up being more than enough food because the portions are large here! For poke, we chose the HAWAIIAN ALBACORE TOMBO, SPICY AHI, TRADITIONAL AHI, & CREAMY SCALLOP and for sides, we had the cucumber kimchi and seaweed salad. Of the poke, our favorite was the creamy scallop as the scallops were super sweet, fresh, and had a soft and silky texture. With that said, all the fish was super fresh and melted in our mouths. The seaweed salad and kimchi cucumber were sweet and refreshing. The sushi rice was cooked to perfection and complemented the poke and sides wonderfully. Service could honestly use some work which is a big reason of why I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 stars. When we arrived at 1pm, we were shocked to see a line of at least 50 people already inside and wrapped around the small store. It was like Disneyland! They only had one line and one cashier taking orders, when they really could use at least two or three cashiers to speed the process up. We were probably in line for 40 minutes or so and they we're on the verge of running out of certain poke- we were fortunate to have grabbed the last of the creamy scallop poke, but they didn't have enough for a full portion and so they supplemented it with more of our second choice poke. TLDR, come early and get there right when they open!!! In terms of atmosphere, they have a lot of cool Hawaiian decor, including a fake Hawaiian Landmark sign of King Kamehameha, usually issued by the government to denote protected Hawaiian heritage sites. They also have stickers from various tourist destinations in Hawaii' and a row of plastic Lucky Cats waving at you as you enter and leave. Indoor seating is tight, especially when the customer line blocks the tables. Ono has some limited outdoor seating too for the nicer days that they share with the rest of the strip mall. I love a poke bowl and this one is good. It's is hawaiian style poke which is less about toppings than Americanized ones. While good, the line in here is insane. I'm not usually in this corner of the city so I was fine with waiting but I'm not convinced it's worth the journey just for it. The regular is plenty of food and was honestly even just a tad too much for a single sitting for me. I enjoyed it a lot especially how saucy and flavorful everything is. Looking back, I was surprised by how much sauce was on the poke that I could then ensure I wasn't having bites of plain rice. Wow just wow. Visited Ono poke after going to the Edmonds Market and it was outstanding. I tried the Spicy Ahi and the Yellow Tail poke and both were so flavorful. This poke was even better than poke I have had in Hawaii. The staff was so nice and efficient as there was a line out the door when we arrived, but it moved fast and wasn't a long wait at all to get our food after ordering. The regular you could easily share with another person, as it's a great portion size. Loved the Hawaiian music playing in the background as well. Was such a great visit! read more
