This was one of two places I wanted to take my bestie to for some great food I've had during the peaks of the pandemic. Thankfully dine-in is back open again, so we got here on a Saturday morning around 11:20am to indoor seating that was nearly full and a small line that was forming at the front counter. I ordered their chicken and pork combo Hawaiian style plate, and my bestie got their chicken katsu Hawaiian style plate. Portions are huge for both plates and both also came with macaroni salad. They give you sooooo much meat no matter what you get. To go in slightly more detail: - Chicken and pork combo: both meats were flavored very well, and a little sweet too though pretty salty without using the rice as a palette cleanser. Chicken had more depth in its flavor; the pork's flavor was a little too much for my liking, and was slightly harder to chew. Both meats had some sauce hat went onto the rice itself. This didn't detract from my overall experience here, though. - Chicken katsu: we both agreed this was our favorite after exchanging pieces of each other's dish. The katsu is crispy and crunchy, and the chicken itself retained a lot of its juiciness. Katsu sauce on the side is honestly optional since the meat itself is already salty enough. This place does share extremely limited parking with Cakes of Paradise next door, so get here early or be prepared to drive around the area to find some. The chicken long rice was packed with noodles directly in the soup (not separately) so the broth had mostly soaked into the noodles, but it was still deeply flavorful and comforting. The spam musubi leans on the sweeter side, which is great if that's your thing. Overall, this place is all about heart, hustle, and seriously satisfying Hawaiian comfort food. I really wanted to like this place as I'm an avid Hawaiian food enjoyer and don't have a go-to spot in Seattle yet, but unfortunately it was a pretty big disappointment :( The beef was extremely dry and not flavorful (kinda burnt?), the kalua pork looked like it had been sitting for a couple hours and was really mushy in a flaky way... My go-to dish here has been the Lawai Crispy Chicken. It's always super flavorful with just the right hint of ginger and never too overpowering. I personally love ginger, so it's the perfect balance for me. This place can get pretty busy during lunch since it's a small mom and pop restaurant, so I'd recommend going early or avoiding peak lunch hours if you can. We decided to get lunch here on a Saturday, and the line was pretty long around 1pm. All the tables were occupied and diners were having a great time enjoying the food and conversations. We just waited for our takeout: 12pc Lawai Fried Ginger chicken, Kulua pork with cabbage, and combo with bbq chicken and beef. We liked the Lawai fried ginger chicken and kulua pork much better than the bbq chicken and beef. The Lawai ginger fried chicken comes with wings, breast, thigh, and drum sticks, marinated in balanced sweet gingery sauce, not too sweet to our taste. The portion is pretty large, and we barely ate half. The rest will be good reheating with air fryer. The kulua pork was good, not too fatty, not too salty. We will definitely order these again. Cozy little Hawaiian restaurant located in Georgetown next door to a very popular bakery. I had no expectations coming in but the Yelp reviews were very generous, so I gave it a try. I opted for the chicken and beef plate lunch combo. I got the mac salad with it. So everything had amazing flavor!! My first bite was the mac salad. This is the thing that many other Hawaiian restaurants don't do too well. They will overpower it with more mayo than things that give it flavor. This one was fantastic! Creamy, and each bite had a savoryness to it. There was a decent portion of beef and chicken laid on top of a bed of white steamed rice. The beef was also flavored wonderfully. It had a different style of cooking, instead of the bulgogi style of beef I'm used to. Each bite had an exterior crispness but a nice juicyness. And the chicken was marinated well too. My husband and I have visited the Island of Kauai twice. We will drive an hour out of our way to get Loco Moco from here. We always get extra gravy and an additional side of Mac salad. Honestly, if the Loco Moco and Mac salad are not from here I don't want to eat it. Outside of poke (big emphasis on this), Kauai Family Restaurant, in my opinion, serves the best Hawaiian food in Seattle. Granted that I haven't gone to that many places that specialize in Hawaiian food, if you're looking for a hearty Hawaiian platter, this is the place to go to. The interior of this humble restaurant is quaint and small, but it has a lot of character that reminded my wife and me of our Hawaiian honeymoon to Kauai. Point of kudos to being situated next to Cakes of Paradise (future review in the making). We ordered: Lau Lau combo platter Oxtail soup I had THE BEST Lau Lau pork in Kauai - it was so good, that we went to the same restaurant 4 different times in the span of a week to get it. So needless to say, I was pretty excited to try this one. Wrapped in the traditional banana leaf, I was pleased that the pork was really tender and flavorful, and although it can't really hold a candle to the one in Kauai, it did its job. The other pork option was a bit dry though, and the salmon (that came in a super small container) had to act as the saving grace. That mac salad was really good - super creamy and moist. Despite the sweetness to it, it was tiny bit salty, but I won't complain about that. The soup that my wife got also had really tender meat, but the broth was really salty. Still warming though for a rainy Seattle day. Overall, this place is solid for Hawaiian food. Although it didn't whisk us back to our honeymoon days in Kauai, it was still quite good and hearty. I would definitely come back to try their other meat options, as apparently the ginger chicken is one of their coveted menu items. Mahalo, Kauai Family Restaurant! They have delicious options such as Kalua pork, lau lau, lomi salmon, mac salad, and even malasadas but I was especially impressed by their ginger chicken which was savory and sweet with a crispy exterior! The mac salad was also a hit for me too with amazing flavor. Additionally they're right next door to Cakes of Paradise so you can end your meal with a delicious slice of cake!
