Amazing experience. I have 4c hair that has been thinning with my previous stylist who I had been going to for the past couple of years. I noticed I was having white bulbs after box braids and she told me that this was normal. Embarrassingly, it took me 2+ years to realize that her technique was pulling my hair out. I have thinning ALL OVER. I left my hair alone for about 4 months and then researched some stylists and came across My at Just Vanity Salon. I booked a wash, blow dry, and two feed in braids. I arrived and her colleague, Dominique, was there with a client doing what I believe is called K-tips and she was so kind and just told me to have a seat until My came in. My arrived and greeted me in a kind manner. She immediately washed my hair, blew dried it, and went in to braid. When I tell you I was SHOCKED that I wasn't in pain and she wasn't pulling my hair out during braiding. I didn't know this was possible because my old stylist told me the pain, and her pulling my hair out until the white bulbs appeared was "normal hair shedding". My also took the time to give me some tips as well once I let her know I was open to any advice because I am not the best at taking care of my own hair. The braids looked great at the end and My was STILL able to make it look cute in spite of my thinning edges and hair in general. Overall, this was an amazing salon experience and I cannot wait to see her again. If you are unsure about booking with either of them, please take this review as a sign that you should JUST DO IT! Five stars from start to finish. I was in a time crunch my daughter had never had braids before but requested braids for her first softball game and her birthday 3 days later(yep, Im that mom). I found their salon on Yelp, I sent a message. Dominique messaged me back within 10 minutes. Took down all the information: style details picture of my daughter's hair and an inspo pic. She then let me know that one of her stylists would be in contact. Within 20 minutes I was in contact with My, the artist that took care of my daughter. My went above and beyond by taking us on such short notice and working aroind mu schedule.They were so welcoming. My daughter felt comfortable instantly we both did. As for the quality of work... We love it. It's turned out so beautiful. Didn't hurt my daughter's head at all. My showed us how to wrap her hair to extend the life of the braids. Everybody stops and compliments her hair. Wow blown away by my burning man braids by My! Sent a few requests out via Yelp and Dom (the owner) texted me to help me book an appt with My. Starting is $170 which includes colors but u need to text them back what u want so they can buy or u can bring in ur own sparkly colors. We started 8am and ended around 12pm. I was referred the salon by a friend and being a new transplant to Cali, I was excited to get my daughter's braid done here! Christianah took more than twice as long as our old braider but my daughter liked her braids so we went with it. The braids started falling out of her hair after four days so Christianah said she'd "redo" then. Well, she really just pulled each braid through the root it had fallen down from. Before two weeks had passed, my daughter had multiple braids out. When I reached out, Christianah refused to refund any of the charges and didn't offer to rectify the situation by any means. I could not be more disappointed. She mentioned that maybe the texture of the hair and extensions didn't align but why would she not know that or have mentioned that at the time of the braiding? My hair is so wavy and can be quite high maintenance. For that reason, I normally don't straighten it, but I'm so glad Dominique did! It turned out so smooth and silky, but my hair wasn't even the best part! I initially came to Dominique for extensions to add some fun fullness several years ago, and recently returned to her in a panic after a nightmare haircut. She did a great job with the medium-grade hair I had bought at a beauty supply store, and kindly recommended a higher grade product for lasting power and management. I took her advice, and have been thrilled with the results. Her work looks not only completely natural, but stunning! She's professional, fast, and a sweetheart to boot! If you're caucasian/hispanic/asian and want extensions but are hesitant to have them sewn in, don't be. I've tried many methods of extensions, and Dominique's sew-ins are by far the longest lasting, least damaging I've experienced. What I love the most is that she works with my schedule and she's always very flexible. The last time I was there I decided to try custom made clip in hair extension. I reached out to her desperately after I had just went to another hair salon who installed a weave and had me looking a disaster. My hair wasn't cheap by the way. can't rate her services, just lack of professionalism up to the VERY DAY of the appointment! initially exchanged messages almost 9 mos ago for a consult + services. her inability to comprehend simple requests were concerning however i still gave it try thinking maybe "this" wasn't her STRONG SUIT. i get that sometimes text can come across confusing or misconstrued so i offered to talk by phone to which she declined. we continue to go BACK & FORTH and almost 1 year later i have an appointment. we CONFIRM a date and time via text. as i arrive she's in the middle of a hair weave or similar service which appeared was going to take awhile AND it did!!! after waiting for over 40 mins in the outside lobby area of the studio she rents i let her know i had to leave b/c the lateness of the appt was going to make me late for another engagement. she asked if i needed to leave because SHE IS RUNNING LATE?!? WTF ARE YOU ON; seriously!?! how do you run a successful business like this!?! i get that things happen however not once did you come out to let me know how long the wait was going to be or at a minimum to simply just apologize. sooo let me get this right?!? -- you enforce a late policy fee/penalty but don't honor and respect your clients (or in my case, potential clients) time? YOU ARE A JOKE! my time is just as valuable as yours, if not MORE... Yelpers, if you can RISK waiting forever to schedule an appt, only to get to her studio shop and have to wait with the possibility of leaving without having services rendered - well then she is YOUR "STYLIST"! I was really looking forward to finding a quality stylist so close to my house, but unfortunately from the moment I stepped into the place it was a disaster. First off, she was over 30 minutes late to the appointment. When she did arrive, she was on the phone, didn't greet me or anything. Eventually she asked me to sit in the chair and gave me her excuse for being late. It would have been cool if she could have at least told me she was going to be late, but I had to reach out to her after it had been 20 minutes. By the time she was getting ready to do my hair, I only had 45 minutes until I needed to leave. She rushed through it, talked on her phone the whole time and then charged me full price for a poor job. One of the worst experiences of my life. First let me say this.... I have been wearing extensions for over ten years. I was very satisfied with that stylist that had been maintaining them for that entire time. An unfortunate event led me to look for another stylist. Being from the east bay, I tried a few stylist here and was never fully satisfied with the install a few weeks later..(when it counts the most) I simply ran into Dom by chance and in a non evasive way she mentioned that she does installs. I figured I couldn't lose anything by making an appointment after all it couldn't have gotten any worse than it had been. Dom took her time.. she is very professional.. and operates in a timely manner.. and was completely able to manage my natural hair and braid a pattern that worked with my crown. She is the slight perfectionist and always willing to work with whatever texture of hair you provide to her. She never complains when I say "Dom can you add more hair" She just does it and does it well. Dom has extremely grown and developed her craft over the last 4 years.. Dominique is one of the most unprofessional stylist I have EVER experienced. She did a weave with a closure, which she encouraged me to get the first install was good and I was pleased. However the second time I went back she was late, did not acknowledge me when I arrived, was rude and talking on the phone it was the most uncomfortable experience ever. After styling my hair in less than a week the closure was slipping way back off my head and when I reached out she said she could fix it and I made an apt to have her correct it. She texted me 20 min before my apt saying she had to reschedule after my apt was on her books for over a week. When I informed her I was already at her shop she did not respond and when she finally did it was with a weak excuse. to say I was disappointed is an understatement. in a nutshell I never got it replaced and with other things i have witnessed in going to her salon I will NEVER user her services again nor would I recommend her to anyone EVER!!!! read more
