My brazilian blowout from Thy's Hair is the only reason my wavy/frizzy hair survived the humidity in Southeast Asia without my Dyson I used to never get my hair done in the States and always waited until I got to Korea but now I regularly come here! They're miracle workers! The other thing I appreciate about Thy's Hair is that the first time I went for a consultation, I wanted a balayage but they dissuaded me cause my hair wasn't in great shape even though it would've made them the most money. Genuinely appreciate honest and kind folks like that Also, Thy convinced me to try shorter curtain bangs and I fell in love (after three days of confusion about whether I liked them or not ). They've even taught me tricks to style my hair that I use regularly! I got the following at my last appointment: - Brazilian Blowout (semi-permanent treatment to make your hair straighter, smoother and silkier! Lasts about three months!). I swear I didn't do ANYTHING to my hair while I was in Singapore and Bali. I was nervous because my hair is naturally thick and on the drier side so I didn't want my hair to get damaged but she was able to help find a solution for getting a balayage with color, and not bleach, preventing my hair from getting damaged with bleach. She is one of the few stylists that I've gone to over the last few years who can do color AND cut. Price is in line to erring on the more expensive side compared to most salons I've seen, but I'd still come back based on my experience. Experience: Today was my first time getting my hair done with Linda. She was very thorough and really listened to what I wanted. I showed her some inspiration pictures and told her that I wanted something low maintenance. I appreciated that she not only respected what I wanted, but also gave me suggestions on what she would recommend. I initially wanted curtain bangs but she made some recommendations based on my face shape, so we went with fringe bangs. While doing my hair, Linda educated me on the different hair techniques and provided me personalized advice on how I could take care of my hair. What I was most impressed with is that I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she was able to almost exactly emulate it. I was apprehensive about the fringe bangs as few can do it well, but she killed it! I've definitely found my go to stylist. Second, she's such a fun person to talk to. Although I'm quiet, she made me feel very comfortable and always asked for feedback if she was doing things too rough or if there was anything she needed to know. Lastly, the HAIR. Went in for a haircut by Linda. She was very sweet and accommodating. For me, haircut wasn't something out of the world. I have really fine hair and some thinning around my front scalp and sides. So I was expecting more on the results based on the reviews I read. The wash was very quick, may be like less than 5 mins. Hair salons I've been to in the past provide really good washing service too. This just didn't feel like it. Especially for the price you are paying. Overall haircut was very normal/average like any other hair salon, for the price may be I was expecting more. I paid 135$ and to be honest the cut and the whole experience didn't justify the price. I get the same result with 70$ haircut and blowout. But I must say the blow dry I was exceptional. Linda did give me good recommendations on scalp serums. She is knowledgeable about Asian hair and provides good recommendations on what hair cut, style, and color suits you during the consultation. My hair was slightly damaged a few years ago from bleaching so she recommended a dark chocolate no-bleach bayalage. I was so impressed that we were able to achieve a light color without bleaching! For someone with super dark and black hair, it is often very difficult to achieve that if the hair stylist has no idea what color to use or how long the product should sit in your hair! My hair had gotten coarse from the tips because of being exposed to the sun for a long time everyday for the last two months. I only went for a hair cut and since I'd already washed my hair, they did not shampoo again which was great because over shampooing is never recommended. I was looking forward to a new look from Thy, but the experience didn't meet my expectations. I explained my desired haircut, but she suggested an alternative that I wasn't confident in. Unfortunately, the final result was not what I had in mind. For a $300 (haircut service+ gloss +tip), I believe it's important to get exactly what you want. We deliberated on the style of bangs that I wanted and we settled that I should think it over and I can come back if I changed my mind. I wish I had a more supportive experience, especially as I felt she was distant and the end experience was rushed. This review is for Linda for a haircut only. I came 30 min earlier than my appointment time, but Linda was ready to see me. At my request, she bundled and cut off a majority of my hair so that it would be ready for donation. After that, I just let her know I wanted a short hair style. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. She asked if I tied up my hair a lot (yes) and how often I styled my hair (almost never lol), and determined a hairstyle that would suit my daily life. I ended up a collarbone lengthed, soft layered cut that looks great with no maintenance, but with all lengths long enough to still put into a ponytail. She also helped clean up some DIY bangs I was trying to grow out. I can tell Linda values her craft from watching her work on my hair and speaking with her. After a big move from the east coast to the west coast, I was left trying to figure out where I'd go and do my hair... I knew I wanted someone who knew what they were doing. So I looked to Yelp to solve this problem and it led me to Thy. Seemed simple enough - she replies super quickly (and I mean lightning speed! Some family and friends reply slower than Thy does) and got me set up for an appointment appropriate for our schedules. I arrived to 917 Arques getting a little lost despite noticing some pictures of Sola Salons... So don't do what I did and get lost, it's in a small shopping center (strip mall) and Thy's is located right inside. Really cool concept where there are independent hair dressers with their own salons to serve you. I wandered into Suite 17 and got to work! I've been getting highlights for several years and it's also been quite too many months since my last color. Thy took one good look at my hair and suggested adding babylights and correct some of the more blonde streaks in my hair. There were also sections that seemed to be missing some highlights that could be patched up, which she covered! She was super efficient through it all and as friendly as could be. I had a great time getting my hair done, through the application, wash, toner, and blow dry, I enjoyed my time with Thy. Did I mention she made my hair look beautiful!?
