Great shakes and antique mall within, I love the decor. Decent burger and fries but was a bit surprised when it closed at 6pm on a Saturday (it was hot in June but maybe not quite peak season so most business is mid-day?) I've not been to Lake Cowichan since childhood but this place matched the summer vibe more than anything else I saw, I'd recommend it just because it is good but give it bonus points for nostalgia. read more

The diner has a very cute interior. The one taking order is very friendly! We were struggling to choose which pizza, so he offered to do half and half. The pizza was great. It was flavorful and full of toppings. The poutine is ok. I just prefer crunchier fries, but I like how they gave generous amount of cheese. This is a good stop near lake cowichan for lunch. Probably the most eclectic collection of telephones, vintage soda bottles, and radios/clock radios around. At least from what I've ever seen. I should have taken some pics, but oh well. Food wise, run of the mill. Decent for what it is. Don't expect anything fancy, and you'll be satisfied. I was. Order and pay at the counter, then they bring you the food when it's ready. Clean interior, if not a bit dated. It wasn't busy when I was here. Worth a repeat visit when I'm in this area again. read more

We came here for lunch. When you walk in, you head straight to the counter to place your order. The staff will bring your food to you. I got a crispy cod wrap and a milk (blackberry flavor). The crispy cod was ok. I think I definitely made a mistake ordering that. There was hardly any cod in the wrap. The lettuce in the wrap wasn't drained properly so it was wet and made the overall wrap kind of soggy. I really liked the milk shake here. It was very tasty and I would definitely come back again for the milkshake. B ordered the philly steak poutine. I tried a bit of the philly steak poutine and it was a lot tastier than my cod wrap that is for sure. Overall I think it really depends on what you get here. I do enjoy the philly steak poutine and the milkshake. Stay away from any healthy looking options that you see on their menu. read more

We always eat at J&V when we come to lake cowichan. Their burgers are a MUST. The homemade bun makes it the best burger EVER. The fries are always hot and delicious. Service is always A+. They were busy and short handed. They didn't let that affect their service of their food. We had two small dogs we didn't want to leave in the car. They allowed us to have the boys in the train caboose with us while we ate. BEST FOOD. BEST HUMANS. Go. Go. Go. read more

I was at J & V's Burgers recently and I got this thing called a twister which is basically a blizzard and the sign said it was soft serve with candy and the price was $5.50. The cashier rang it in as that price and then added candy for $.75. I paid and then looked at the receipt and then asked if she could explain that to me. She said (in a really snappy tone) "That's just how the computer is." I said, "But why are you adding the candy in - does the $5.50 not include the candy, even though the sign says soft serve with candy?" She said, "I'll just give you the $.75 back if it's that big of a deal." I said, "Well no, that's okay if that's how it is - I was just trying to understand." And then she said "It is the tax," I said, "Okay so those prices don't include tax?" A lady came out of the kitchen and said "No they don't." So I say, "Fine, whatever." The girl who charged me was so rude the whole time saying things like "I didn't set the prices, I don't control how the computer goes", and then it made me look like a crazy, so I sat down and then started doing the math and there was tax on top of everything including the extra charge, so I was like this is wrong so I went back to talk to her again. I waited until I could speak to her and said, "I'm sorry, I really wasn't trying to be mean, but I just really don't understand." Then she said, "Yeah it's confusing, I understand." I said, "Okay, but I still don't think it makes sense." We were being nice at this point, but I was really feeling like this was not right, so I asked if there someone I can speak to about it so she goes and gets her manager. I am super calm at this point and ask him, so I bought a twister and this is how it was wrung in. He says, "Yeah so if you get extra candy that's how it is, like oreo and reeses." I tell him, "Okay, but that's not what I did. I just got a twister." He says, "Uh huh, that's right." And I said "Sorry, I still don't understand. I paid $5.50 plus $.75 plus tax." And then he says, "Yeah, that's right." I say "So what do you get for just $5.50?" He replies "Soft serve and candy." I said "That's what I got!" Then he says, "Relax! Do you want the $.75? It's not a big deal." I said, "It's not really about the $.75. Sorry, I still don't understand how this makes sense." He says, "I don't know how to explain it any better." I asked, "So what's the difference between a twister and just a soft serve?" He replies, "The candy." I say, "Exactly!" And then he tells me to calm down. Then a woman (who has never been previously involved) came from the kitchen and is like "Oh my god, is this really happening over $.75?" At this point, I'm so frustrated, and say, "You guys are shockingly rude here!" My husband gets involved now, and says, "So basically my wife is trying to get an explanation and what you're saying is that your sign is wrong? There is no mention of the $.75 for candy. We are not trying to come in to stir anything up, it's the fact that your sign doesn't make any sense based on what you're charging." The manager says "I don't know how to fix your problem - I'm trying to give you the money back!" I said, "It's not about the money, it's about the fact that this doesn't make any sense!" It was like ordering a blizzard at dairy queen and they have a price for it and then you have to pay to add in the flavours. It wasn't even good. The ice cream was super runny and the candy did not mix in at all! Both my son and I threw out more than half of our twisters. read more

I love J&V's. They make the best cinnamon buns and chocolate shakes. The other items that I have had on their menu have all been really fresh and tasty.....poutine, salads, pizza(homemade), burgers, wraps. The staff are super friendly and work hard to keep their customers happy. They are very "family friendly" board games are supplied for free and there LOTS to look at. After a trip over the top from Port Renfrew to Lake Cowichan and exploring numerous logging roads, I was ravenous and stopped at J&V's for the first time. I was told they had just moved here within the last year from their Victoria location (Yelp needs to delete this former location as they are now here) for what I thought would be a standard burger. What a surprise! A big homemade patty with freshly cooked bacon and lightly toasted bun with greens that were fresh and not wilted. A mango shake that was cold and tasty. I would have the same again but would have to try something different just because I have confidence all their offerings would be well worth it! read more
