Smoked Meatballs* ~ $15 house-made, marinara, parmesan, garlic aioli, house-made bread

Had the: - Black & Blue Pizza - Smoked Meatballs Food was good for a pub, not amazing, not bad.

Smoked chicken wings. No Smokey flavour at all but crispy

Service was a bit spotty. We received the wrong pizza but they did come over and rectify that. Asked for sauce on the side for the chicken wings and didn't get that and had to ask for cutlery Food was ok. We had the pizza and black and blue burgs. The burgs were quite tasty however the beef patty was way over cooked so was dry. Too bad cuz the taste was there. The blue cheese wasn't overpowering at all. I'd recommend but ask they don't overlook the party! We had the smoked chicken wings but they had NO Smokey flavour at all. Not bad but again we didn't get our sauce on the side. Pizzas are average. I would not recommend. They have a huge selection of craft beer though!

Absolutely fantastic meal! Despite being short staffed during the evening rush, I was seated pretty quickly. My server was a cheerful young woman named Jaime who was very attentive and expertly answered all my food/drink related questions. I ordered the Black and Blue Burger, which was absolutely delicious! It comes with blue cheese, which is slightly melted by the heat of the burger, but is a great contrast to the sweetness of the caramelized onions and saltiness of the bacon; add mushrooms for an extra kick! The meal comes with both French fries and a house salad, making the whole meal feel very balanced. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and would absolutely go again myself the next time I'm in town!

Flambé pizza with chili flakes added at the table.

My daughter introduced me to the Sawmill Taphouse and Grill. Ambiance is casual, clean and welcoming and staff are keen to make sure you're enjoying your time there. Definitely worth your time to stop in if you're in the area or waiting for the ferry. It's not a long way off the highway if your driving past Chemanius (though there are a bunch of turns to get there. FOOD Food menu is not extensive but has something that will satisfy everyone. Sandwiches, burgers and sharable plates (including clams). The house specialty seems to be the pizzas which come in some unique (and delicious) combinations. Of course you can always create you're own if you don't trust the professionals in the kitchen. The ingredients seemed fresh and truly flavorful. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen knows what they're doing. I loved the Parmesan cheese and herb blend that was offered at the table to go with my pizza and the presentation together with dried chili pepper flakes in small snifters was very creative. I didn't have dessert but the chocolate torte looked delicious. Based on the quality of the other food it's worth a shot. DRINKS With "Taphouse" in your name you better have a pretty good selection of beers - this place definitely lives up to its name. If you're into trying different beers this place will be a hit! A really good mix of ales, lagers and IPAs. The staff know what they're talking about and will be happy to make a recommendation based on what you like in the mainstream market. I also appreciated that 5 ciders were available on tap. Not a common feature of most establishments. If you want to be able to walk home without falling over but still want to try a bunch of different brews; the Sawmill has beer flights - 3x4oz for $9 ($10 for ciders). It's a great way to still be able to taste the beer your sampling when your in your 12th!! Staff were very friendly and regularly checked in with the table, but didn't hover as some tend to do. Prices were very reasonable a 12" pizza is about $14). Portion size was good and not remotely pretentious. A great casual spot to hang out, grab a quick meal, or just waste some time. You'll probably make some friends and you could do far worse! I'll be back.

Okay, time to try something I haven't tried before, the smoked brisket dip...and, of course, a pint or two of glorious Creepy Uncle Dunkel! The jus isn't what one usually gets with a beef dip..it is lightly smoked and a delicious companion to the smoked brisket. The brisket was juicy and flavorful. The house salad always pleases - the cranberry raisins are a neat touch.

Didnt answer phone several times. Pizza is bland and over priced. Dont have water to go.

Limited choice of entrees although there seems to be a good choice of pizzas. At one time this was a favourite.

They have some bar-height tables made out of some barrels - I would not sit here. Service Quality: Staff was attentive and knew the menu well. They recommend getting a wide variety of dishes since it is tapas. Menu Variety: Great selection of spanish tapas. There's fish, meat, seafood, veggies - there is something for everyone. You won't find the lesser known tapas here - just the main popular ones we all know. Food Presentation: Simple, nothing crazy here. Plated with intention. Food Taste and Quality: Food came to the table hot and fresh out of the kitchen. Some of the patatas bravas were a bit undercooked - for me there was a bit too much sauce here. They also have the shishito peppers here - even though 1 out of 10 are spicy, it was more like 5 out of 10 were spicy. Luckily they were all grilled to perfection. The cod fritters were great, would order again. Portion Sizes: You'll need to order at least 5 dishes for a table of 2. Drink Selection: Simple cocktail menu with a spanish twist to them - if you really want to call it a "spanish cocktail". Price and Value: Good value for money, priced just right. Overall Experience and Recommendation: Make sure you make a reservation cause if not you'll be waiting and by the time you look for another restaurant for dinner - everything will be closed (cause its Bowen Island). I tried it, I would try the other restaurants on the island first before coming back.

Spanish tapas style, we ordered about 6 dishes and bread and we were pretty full. Also sangria. Food was fantastic, everything we ordered had so much flavor, my favourite was the orzo salad and the shrimp. A little surprise that Bowen Island had this little gem. Due to Covid protocols only patio was open, which worked fine for us, also set up socially distance. Great service. Recommend you making reservation, we didn't but came right when they opened lucked out with a table. It got pretty busy 15 minutes after we arrived. Overall, I was very impressed. We will be back!

The interior was warm and intimate with a lively but not loud ambiance. From my visit, standout sips were the inventive cocktails and a selection of BC‑produced makgeolli that we look forward to trying on our next visit. The vegetable dumpling soup arrived just warm enough, and while the broth had a bit more black pepper than we'd prefer, the dumplings and veggies were tender and satisfying. The pork with scallions was the highlight: the meat was super‑soft, and the house‑made scallion/apple slaw added a bright, crisp counterpoint with just a touch of balsamic acidity. Service throughout was attentive without hovering, and pacing between courses felt relaxed. On the practical side, the seating window reminded us that reservations are useful here, especially later in the evening. Portions are generous for shareable plates, making this a fun spot for two or a small group to graze.

Snow crab and prawn ceviche with no snow crab to be seen, don't talk about taste! It was overwhelmed with the mustard dressing that shooting up my nose the whole time that I cannot taste anything. It's a hard pass on this one. The seafood pancake seem more promising with decent sizes of seafood, mostly squid and octopus but not much shrimp though. Unfortunately it's not crispy at all and got pretty soggy right away, the batter seems pretty wet so it didn't crisp up. The dipping has a nice tang that I enjoy but without the crispiness, the pancake and dipping is wet on wet, texture was not the best. Sinpo chicken which is the Korean fried chicken with the sweet tangy Sinpo sauce that was so overpowered that I couldn't taste the chicken or even see much meat, I think I most ate was batter with sauce.... The rice cake was ok, a little bit undercooked and not the best. The whole dish was way too saucy and just eating fried batter with Sinpo sauce. I wouldn't recommend this unless you are a fan of the sauce. Overall, I don't think this restaurant is even worth visiting, the price is high for all the dishes and it charges for every side dish that traditional Korean meals include. Not saying this is a tourist trap but also don't expect authentic dishes.

All the toppings are cut or ground up so small it's like it was prepared for geriatrics. The ingredients are very low quality. For example the mozzarella cheese is that cheap stuff you get from the food warehouse in 10 pound bags for $20. Totally tasteless. The sauce is one of the most important parts of a pizza and their sauce is just bland. No spices or taste. It's like the canned generic brand stuff from the dollar store. On the other hand, someone referred us to Robert Street Pizza in Ladysmith and we order from there quite frequently. So you can imagine our glee when we found out that Robert Street Pizza purchased the Little Town Pizza in Chemainus. Just to be saft, I emailed the Little Town PIzza manager to see if their ingredients and the way they prepare their pizza would change because of the buyout. The manager promised that we would get the same pizza from their as we do from their Parent company Robert Street Pizza. Well, we eagerly ordered and the manager lied. It was the same garbage that Little Town Pizza has always been serving. NO change in quality, taste or price. Since then they have moved a few blocks but are still in Chemainus. Over the years we have given Little Town Pizza a chance, thinking that their bad pizza was in the past and we hope that it's improved...it has not. You are better off ordering from Robert Street Pizza in Ladysmith, and you can even get delivery. Robert Street Pizza in Ladysmith is the BEST!
