The business is under new ownership. We have been going there for many years . It's definitely not the same without Raymond and Bonnie and their daughter and son . A great family run local restaurant in Chemainus. While visiting my brother, my family came here for dinner one night. It was really busy, so there was a big of a wait for a table, but it was definitely worth the wait. They have an extensive menu with lots of different types of options, as well as daily specials. I had the halibut burger. I loved the dill mayo, and the halibut was perfectly breaded and fried. I had it with a side of onion rings. For dessert I had the peach pie. It was to die for. The crust gave me memories of my grandma. The service was very friendly. You could tell this place was a staple of the community with people coming in for take out orders or paying their bills and the staff knew all about them and their families. At the heart of it, Bonnie Martin is the restaurant that serves the locals and everyone in there knows everyone. This is the type of restaurants I strive to find when travelling. Staying true to their conviction of making great food for the locals and using locally sourced items. There are no holes on the wall but if it did, I would be the more merrier. Total gem and don't miss if when passing through Chemainus. Mom, Bonnie, runs the kitchen and also makes the daily fresh pies and jams that are sold at the front. Immediately I felt welcomed upon entry and loved the mixed of different types of food from hearty breakfast to burgers with curry over rice or fries (saw a local eat it and it was huge and so awesome looking!) to a list of local favourites like the Wor Wonton Soup. Yes, your read that correctly! Asian food mixed with breakfast, burgers, curry and perogies. Trust me, it works and everyone in your group will be so happy and nothing over $20. My friend and I ordered the small Wor Wonton Soup ($14 and already so huge) and ham and broccoli quiche ($12). To my total surprise, the hand made pork Wonton Is very good and the bowl was loaded with veggies, prawns and bbq pork. The pastry on the quiche was amazingly light and flakey. We wanted to order a slice of pie to try but we so full. After lunch we walked around town to see the famous murals and stopped at the local market that netted me my hand knitted Cowichan toque. read more

We just finished the most amazing wonton soup and green salad here. Quite honestly this green salad put even 5 star restaurants to shame - most are some lettuce, one slice of tomato and some dressing. On a trip to Chemainus, my elderly parents were hungry and tired and stopped for lunch. My mother had just had surgery for a broken hip two weeks prior. Just after they were served, they were asked to move for a larger party. This is absolutely abhorrent treatment but also an atrocious and callous management decision. So surprising that the courtesy and respect from BC Ferries staff outperformed, by great lengths, the consideration of this little tourist town. Terrible service. read more

Delicious little place! Fish and chips has light batter, not too heavy. Favorites from around the table: mushroom bacon quiche (would order again), cod fish and chips, strawberry rhubarb pie and apple crumble pie. One of the locals recommended this place to us and I'd like to thank her. It's a no frills, casual diner that serves homemade goodness. Breakfasts, sandwiches and burgers, etc. Our table had the veggie burger, regular burger and a club sandwich and everyone really enjoyed their meals. My hamburger was delicious. Above average and so were their fries. Our waiter (the owner) was great. Super friendly. If I lived nearby, I would definitely be a regular. The only place open on a Sunday evening.I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was just blah and no flavour at all. I was disappointed as this place calls itself a diner. My boys ordered chicken strips with a side of hair in the coleslaw . Instead of replacing the meal, only the coleslaw was replaced. The fries were lukewarm and the chicken strips were rubbery and tough to eat. I cancelled my order to go and asked for a discount for having hair in my food. The owner said 5%!!! That's not even the tax on my order. I will starve rather than visit this place again. read more

Met my mother from Campbell Ricer in Chemainus to watch a performance at the theatre. Our usual lunch place was closed for dinner so upon locals recommendation tried Bonnie Martin. Terrific service from a lovely open and considerate server!!! A typical diner with a twist.... All homemade food. Delicious and generous portions. We split fish and chips. Homemade in house chips and locally caught cod. Terrific. Huge!!! We didn't finish. Shared a Caesar salad which was also tasty. Another visit for dinner to Chemainus's finest. Shared wor wonton soup, calamari and 2 piece halibut fish n chips. Wonton was phenomenal just like last visit! Calamari was overcooked so not recommended. Fish n chips were fantastic. Two big fresh and perfectly battered pieces of halibut and a generous serving of fresh cut fries. And some tasty coleslaw. A steal for $18. Calamari only $6, large wor wonton that easily serves 3 to 4 people with lots o' wontons, prawns, BBQ pork, chicken and veggies $13.95! Took the decadent chocolate cheesecake to go for shared dessert later. Cheesecake was pricey at $6.99 for an average size slice. Was good, but not outstanding. read more

Was driving around Chemanius looking for a restaurant to have lunch at while it was raining this afternoon. Parked and decided to give Bonnie Martins a try and see how the food was. Sat down took forever to be waited on , ordered our food, came out quick enough, food was pretty good and would come back again for the food if it wasn't for the poor customer service. The waitress barely said two words the entire time we we there. Was not friendly at all. Didn't ask how are meals were ever. Got up to pay, she said are you done and we paid and left. If you want friendly, or even decent service do not come here. Props to the chef, F- to the stuck up server. read more
