We had a wonderful lunch. I had the enchilada special and my hubby had the taco plate. Both were very good. We ordered chips and salsa. They make the chips fresh per order. They came out hot a very good. We actually finished them. A first time for us. The salsa may look scary thinking it was going to be screaming hot but the heat was just right and the salsa was delicious!! Truly enjoyed this place and will return. People were kind and welcoming. In the far reaches of NM is Chama. This rustic town is bustling with tourists, but it also has a small, hometown feel. In this little town is JVs! Growing up in neighboring Dulce,NM as a kid, JVs was always a staple. I remember taking little trips for lunch and stopping in, and 20+ years later, this little restaurant has not stopped doing what it does best! Making New Mexican food out of a quaint little location. Little has changed, and the food remains awesome! I am a fan of a good taco, and these tacos are simple and are delicious! The homemade salsa compliments them well. The chili and any dish from enchiladas to taquitos to burritos are always good! They are usually busy, so try and call ahead for pick up, or expect a wait! If you're traveling through, you will not be disappointed for a quick stop here! The service is always done with a smile and I appreciate this northern NM staple for remaining consistent for all these years. It is something I always look forward to! read more

the price you pay for what you get doesn't match up.... There's no prices on the menu which probably means they make them up as they go. You order a taco and since the shell is so big, you think it's going to be a Good size. Yes, the tacos are good and Yes, the shell is a good size but it's missing some meat. They load it up will lettuce to try and mask the fact that there is no meat BUT meat and lettuce taste different. Some of them didn't even have cheese. The cashier was either very rude or having a rough day. Either way maybe the customers should be greeted and treated better. Small interior, nice and clean but it doesn't change the experience. Haven't tried any other food there but maybe another day because I've heard good things. read more

On our way to Colorado and found this piece of yumminess. The staff, one lady, at the front was super nice and food came out perfect and delicious. I had the green chili burger and fries. Oh my lanta!!! Soooo good. Hubby had tamales and he practically licked the plate. Worth the stop! We ate so fast we forgot to take pictures. read more

This place was recommended by a local and there are a lot of locals that eat here. It is a small place, probably can seat about 40 people comfortably. We sat outside to enjoy the breeze while we were there. With 7 of us in our group, we ordered green chili burgers, plain burgers, green chili burritos and some had fries, some had chips. The chips were just the individual bags and the fries were great so I would recommend fries over chips. The burgers were big and delicious. The green chili on them was spicy and added a great flavor. The bite of burrito I had was good too, although I would have needed two of them for myself. All in all this was really good food and a place we will go back to. The wait staff was one person when we were there and she did a terrific job, not sure if she is the owner or not but she was very friendly and took good care of us. Very good food! We stopped by for lunch and I had the Mexican burger smothered with red and green an my son had the kids hot dog. The hot dog was huge and delicious. Mine was amazing. Chile is very tasty. Service was good too! read more

I doubt you'd see many tourists at this place, but JV's is clearly a favorite among Chama locals. The restaurant looks more like someone's living room overcrowded with tables, chairs and miscellaneous knickknacks, but the food definitely fits into that 'home cookin' category. Perfect when you're wanting to veer from the chains. The waitress was extremely nice and we were greeted by friendly faces all around. If you find yourself passing through this tiny town in New Mexico, make sure to save your appetite for JV's. read more

What a terrific find. A hole in the wall. Fantastic food and e cells to service. Small place, but big on taste. One lady, I think it was the owner did all the serving and cleanup and did a great job. Took a friend there for a late lunch; what a disappointment. I have already apologized to my friend. She ordered chicken quesadillas; we had chicken fajitas. At least the chicken fajitas were identifiable as chicken. The quesadillas were processed cheese with diced chicken nuggets between tortillas; no onion, no green peppers; nothing. The chicken nuggets were diced so small we weren't sure if it was breaded chicken or breaded fish. A deplorable excuse for chicken quesadillas. read more

When heading through Chama, stop at this unassuming restaurant. We loved the stuffed Sapodillas. The owners are very friendly and all the food is homemade. The portions are very large but we didn't leave anything on the plate. read more

Great food. Highway patrol and lots of locals were here when we stopped for lunch. A great sign. Portions were just right, excellent green chili and homemade western beans. Location on yelp is iff. They are on Southside of hwy17 in a small building with a faded green roof. Very much worth the stop. read more
