If you visit this place it is easy to see why we need closed borders. It is nicer than ANY hotel I've ever been to. And what used to be "the world's largest telephone booth" would dominate ANY hotel in the USA. The people are overly friendly as long as you are not doing shady things. And with billboards offering services directly to your room and a hospital system where you only go if you're sick. The "grey area" is a pretty loose term. The entire hotel is illuminated with L.E.D.'s. The space is immaculate. It was 1/4 mile from the room to the lobby. The ballrooms and convention spaces are like a stadium. (Indoors or outdoors). The public bus arrives every (2) minutes and are often full. It is approximately .50 US to go 30 miles downtown. Just looking at the creative ideas a child could write a book . "This ain't Tijuana". The malls and beaches are protected by federal soldiers and the streets have checkpoints every mile. They obtain your information and destination. If something is off a militia is on alert. In NOLA people go missing all the time. They get discovered weeks later. Would never happen in Mexico . A drunk guy might get out the box, but it is very controlled. These citizens are: smart, efficient, implemented, hard working, drive excellent, fast, diligent, and gracious. It's like walking through a museum. Being from a popular tourist town known for food, this place is VERY advanced. Instead of lounging and hiding these citizens WORK to pass the time. If you need anything just ask a bartender. Wonderful hotel! We stayed twice, three years apart and both times were fantastic! We came here when my fiancé and I first started dating then again for our anniversary. Every single person that works at this property is out of this world! Kind, helpful and always going above and beyond to make things memorable! There's always a little bit of construction because they're renovating, so plan accordingly by calling with them to make sure the areas you want open, are open. The new speakeasy is super cute. We visited there one evening and have the best time and service! This isn't the same restaurant where you go to breakfast but at night is a Spanish tapas restaurant. Everything was fantastic but all the food on the property is really great! We especially loved to order lunch by the pool. All the cocktails are fantastic, even poolside! Rooms are standard JW with some of them recently updated with the others on their way to being updated. Yes, there is a sort of a musty smell in the air, but that's in most hotels. It's a very hard to keep those highly humid rooms from smelling a little musty. You just have to get over it and enjoy the time outside the room. Pools are super cute and the beach area is nice. There is an adult pool that is open during the day but wish it was open later! Lots of places in walking distance if you decide to venture out of the property but why would you need to! Easy drive from the airport and to the downtown or for departure to Isla Mujeres. We did not go to the island this time but last time we booked everything through the hotel and they made it super easy. read more

We recently stayed at this motel for five days. The view was beautiful, and the property itself was very nice. We truly enjoyed the scenery and many aspects of our stay. However, there were several issues that affected our experience. While tipping is common and appreciated, at times we felt uncomfortable because some employees seemed overly focused on receiving tips. One situation that stood out was at the pool, where an employee stood nearby watching us for an extended period of time without appearing to be working, which made us feel uncomfortable. We also noticed that our room only had a half-used box of tissues when we arrived, and it ran out by the second day. Small details like this should be addressed to improve guest comfort. Another disappointment was the cost of food. Considering the price of the stay, we believe breakfast should have been included. The breakfast prices were very high, and many items throughout the property seemed significantly overpriced. In addition, some areas of the motel were not as clean as we expected. Overall, while the location and views were wonderful, improvements in customer service, cleanliness, room supplies, and pricing would make the experience much better for future guests. read more

As a titanium member I am very use to Marriott customer service and how the JW is "usually" above the rest. But this one is the exception. Horrible treatment during check in especially from the apparent supervisor Nabil Castaneda. Front desk manager that I just talk to about broken water pipes was horrible. Could not have more nice things to say about this resort. My wife and I have been back 4 times now and plan to return every year. We started when my wife was pregnant with our first son and it has gotten better every year. The service you receive here is amazing. Every worker is so helpful and friendly. They somehow manage to remember our names after only being there one day. You never go long without someone asking if you need help, a drink, food, etc. They make sure to go above and beyond for you to have a great experience. The setup of the place is very family friendly. The one pool has a very shallow area of only about 6 inches for kids to play with toys in. This leads into the bigger pool, which goes under bridges and is really fun for kids. There is also a separate, deeper kids pool. Even if you do not have kids, it is still a great resort. Everything is spaced out enough where parts of the pool end up being adults only. The food on the resort is very good. The breakfast at Bravia is pretty standard breakfast food. The complimentary yogurt dish they offer if you order Ala carte instead of the buffet is delicious! My favorite restaurant is Sasi Thai. The sweet and sour soup and tofu pad Thai are great. The staff was the highlight here - everyone was hyper-professional, the accommodations were lovely, and the entire experience was better than I'd planned for for the hotel zone. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant was lovely every morning, a nice relaxing way to get started without having to think much. The grackles dive-bombing unattended plates was a little amusing, as well. I'm sure they fight with the birds pretty constantly, as we saw a falconer on site to ward them off - seems like a tough battle, though. The beach area was really well maintained, even given the influx of seaweed - another tough problem to contend with. The hotel itself was really well maintained with the exception of the elevators - those are a little sketchy. After much research, we decided to spend a week at the JW Marriott. We deliberately booked a non-all-inclusive resort, as we are big foodies and prefer to choose our own restaurants offsite. We also wanted to do day-excursions freely without feeling like we had to return to our resort to eat every meal. We are not fans of typical all-inclusive buffets, and loved yelping our way through local restaurants instead. We thoroughly enjoyed the JW Marriott and would come back again. Pros: -Service is impeccable. Front desk, poolside servers, housekeeping, bell men, restaurant servers ... all employees are so kind, helpful, and just super sweet. The service makes a huge difference in peoples' experience, and they do amazingly. - Several gorgeous pools, including swim up bar, infinity pool. - Several hot tubs were clean and relaxing. - Beachfront property. Just a few steps down from the pools and you're at the white sand beach. - Walkable beach and hotel zone. If you love walking or jogging, there's plenty of oppty here. We ran almost every morning for miles. - Close to many amazing restaurants within walkable distance. - Super clean grounds and nice rooms. Very modern and updated. - Fitness room is the best one I've seen in a long time - beach views! Clean equipment. Gets busy in the mornings, as people like this gym! - On site restaurants were decent. The Sasi-Thai was our favorite lunch spot (expect Latin inspired food, not Asian) - Brunch buffet available Sundays - Live music available by lobby bar on weekends Cons: - Main downside is that food and drinks are typical Cancun-American prices. Expensive, but so is everywhere else along hotel zone. - Bravio breakfast dishes weren't the best, but their Sunday brunch buffet looked a lot better (we didn't choose that). - In room WiFi is super slow. First resort experience, and I am plenty glad I chose JW Marriott. If you are interested in this resort here are some points to consider: -Although it is not all inclusive and built 20 years ago, they maintain the classic resort vibe and care deeply about the spirit of service, and maintaining the quality and look of the property. you'll pay for meals at restaurants or for the by-the-pool food and drink services, but even with a family of three eating & drinking moderately, JW Marriott it is cheaper than, for example, the Hard Rock Cafe hotel next door, which by comparison on average charges $200-$300 more per night (part of the all inclusive package) at least, depending on the number of people per room. You'll also see employees repainting, trimming plants, maintaining the pools as needed. The rooms are nice and seem to have been renovated recently, and can offer some idyllic views of the white sands and azure sea. -The beach access and infinity pool that stretches across the whole back of the hotel are the strong points of this resort. I recommend getting to the pool house early and get towels, then find a spot near the pool and just camp there the whole day. You can certainly leave the spot for lunch or back to the hotel room. But having the spot will maximize the experience, specifically swimming in the pool and enjoying the beach / ocean. -For food, the restaurants here are ok. There are better options outside the hotel. But if you want something quick that is Thai, Spanish, Italian, or some food from the beach restaurant, their items are definitely above par. Be sure to make reservations for dinner as they get packed easily -The exchange rate was $1 USD TO $16.4 pesos, which is not the worst, but not great either. You can get by charging your card, using USD, or billing to your room number. -There is no airport shuttle but you can have the concierge book a taxi for you -The operator is your friend when you just arrive, to answer all your questions and help you navigate the resort. -The spa is nice, with a pool and a hot tub that are free. Massage and nail services are extra. The gym is right next door and has everything, including machines, free weights, a squat station, and Olympic bars. They also offer free exercise classes. -Last but not least, be sure to use up the vouchers, such as 2 free drinks, free wine tasting, hand exfoliation for 2, etc. you also get complimentary ironing service of two items per day. read more

Meh. I used to love this place however they have 0 benefits for Titanium members and poor business ethics. They offer you two snacks and daily breakfast. That's the norm and they didn't offer the exclusive lounge. I found out about it after asking and I called and they stated that is for an extra fee. The prices for food and drinks are super inflated. I asked for a small cup of gelato and then the cashier stated I received two scoops. Ummm huh? $15 for a cup and a bottle of water. The drinks not including the Diablo are watered down. The kicker, the front door attendant ordered a taxi to take me 10 mins for $300 pesos and the next day ... sigh they ordered a taxi to take me 24 mins to a gym. He charged $850 pesos and tried to swindle me for $1900 for a round trip. I just wanted a basic taxi in which they said yes no worries. The local gym owner ordered me a return Uber for $237 pesos. Her eyes were shocked when I told her how much I paid. Poor business ethics. I won't be returning and I should have checked out the renovated Marriott as everyone local stated it is much better. That's what I get for being loyal to JW Marriott properties. read more

The very best hotel my husband and I have been staying at. Rooms have been refurbished, we stayed on the 12th floor and we couldn't have asked for better. Not all inclusive despite the site we booked from saying it was. We were first put in a room that overlooked a construction project, not the ocean view oasis promised/paid for. So that was a major burn to not even be able to relax a second after a long day of travelling. The reception desk was slow when we asked for a room that we paid for and initially told there were no other rooms (this is at the end of slow season, and hard to believe). After 20 mins we got the room we paid for that magically appeared. There's zero authentic cuisine here. A Thai restaurant where it's mostly fish sauce in every dish. Italian restaurant is the best, found that out late in our stay. The free guacamole bar consists of a dollup of guac and two chips. Definitely not a bar . You will likely be hungry here if you don't go to a local market for food (in the town more there's Euro and one inside on the second floor of the mall near Hermes). Tips: Use the free sunblock at the outdoor area with the towels, try not to pay $30 for it inside if you can avoid it. Take the public bus for $1 each way to the Euro market for snacks and booze, way better than $20 per drink at the bar...that's $20 USD per drink. Overall, amazing bathrooms, bed was.comfy, and view was great... unlikely to stay at this location again. Maybe if/when they do go all inclusive it will be better? read more

Amazing in every way! From the moment we checked in, taking their time to accommodate us because we had two rooms to the last day, everything was fantastic! Ernesto and Mauricio were always friendly and helpful making sure everything was good. The rooms were impecable, so clean! The beds, pillows, bathroom, the view! They cleaned every day. Can't say enough. The whole hotel smells great and it's cold inside. The pool was awesome and the beach was nice. Their staff is there to serve you, period. I do have to say, the beach is not incredibly walkable as other beaches in the area and you don't really experience the turtles at night. However, we are so pleasantly for such an awesome stay! Tip: if you don't want to spend lots of money on drinks, you can get your own from the Oxxo and that really helps! read more

We stayed here in January of 2024 and from start to finish we were treated like royalty. The staff called us by name, and at every opportunity spoiled my mother for her birthday. Alejandra went above and beyond to make my mom feel special. I had emailed ahead and when we went to dinner the first Night, she was serenaded with birthday cake. When we returned to the room, it was decorated with a sign and balloons. It was amazing. I mentioned that we love JW properties and this is why. Aside from the impeccable service, the actual resort is gorgeous. Our room was clean with a beautiful balcony and Caribbean view. The hotel was handicapped accessible and staff jumped at the opportunity to help. The pools were clean and well maintained. The infinity pool overlooking the beach...wow, I could stay there all day. In fact I am still searching for a view from a pool that I like as much: unsuccessfully. lol. The spa services were also wonderful. Again, treated like royalty!! Poolside service was also wonderful. They set up our towels, found is great spots every day, and were attentive (but not overbearing) when ordering food and drinks. We tried all of the restaurants and loved the Italian one the most, but breakfast was also excellent. We actually had to stay an extra day because our flight was cancelled and the management made arrangements for us with genuine care. We were sad to leave even after the unexpected extra day. While I am trying to take my mother to as many new places in the world while she can still travel, we are very much considering returning in January for her birthday again because of the unmatched service and beautiful space the JW Cancun provides. Only 20 minutes from the airport, the JW Marriott Cancun is a restful resort located in the middle of the gorgeous green hotel zone. Our room was newly remodeled with a modern vibe with an ocean view and plenty of space that we liked! The restaurants we dined at were delightfully delicious. Between both Connected Marriott hotels, we had-choice of 8 different on-site restaurants to choose from my favorite was Gustino's OMG food, and the service was top notch. Our kids loved the ease of getting a quick slice of pizza at 750 pizzeria/mini-mart. Don't forget to get a taste of the decadent Gelato at 750 it was amazing. read more

We have stayed at the JW Marriott in Cancun at least 10 times and we always had a wonderful experience, but our recent trip was not pleasant. This criticism is not about the staff, they are all amazing! It actually breaks my heart to post a negative review, but I don't want this to happen to someone else. The problem is, they were under major construction that we were not advised about upon booking the trip. Several of their restaurants and the lobby and main bar area were closed forcing us to leave the property for meals. Waking up to jack hammers at 9:00 AM in the morning is not my idea of a dream vacation. When we complained they said it was not construction it was only a "beautification!" They upgraded us for the inconvenience and we ended up in a suite with a limited ocean view and absolutely no storage. It was also infested with cockroaches. They compensated us with enough Marriott points for maybe a one night stay at a JW Marriott. Bottom line, the fact that they were under construction should have been disclosed allowing us to select another resort or perhaps go at a later time. Attached are the photos. I recently stayed at the JW Marriott Cancun and my start to my vacation in paradise was very frustrating. I arrived at 1:30 as I stated in the app which the hotel agreed to a early check which I am eligible w my status. The Pros: close to many shops and nice Restaurants beautiful facilities and restaurant access at Marriott next door. Cons: 1st issue was my card was being charged for more than the front desk informed me so this caused declined. I travel for work frequently and I'm familiar with a security deposit of $50-$100 for incidentals. I had to call my bank to verify charges and they were charging my card $200 over booking amount, luckily they had an agent available being that it was Veterans which they informed me of the higher charge. I made sure to transfer that amount to my card. From there I checked into my room and was given a room that I didn't reserved. I requested the paid rate for an ocean view and was given a garden view which was basically a view of the ceiling of the resort. I wasn't happy so I went back down and asked the front desk to help me with fixing this I was then told multiple times that I was in a ocean view but my app showed me the room they placed me on was not. From there I was told I would have to wait 1 hr for another room I said ok that would give me and my daughters time to grab lunch. We did and we came bk at 3:30 which was 2 hrs past the time to only be told we would need to wait until 4 pm before the room would be available. At 4:05 I returned to inquire about check in and was told I would have to wait until 5pm. The front desk staff was rude and made me feel as if it was my fault and penalized me for asking for what I reserved. I told them at this point I would like to get into a room. I was livid, I demanded they provide me any room because we had been traveling since 8am. They did accommodate me with an ocean view. After arriving home I noticed my credit card had additional charges on the bill that were no listed on the hotel liber. I would not recommend location. Unhappy Elite Member read more
