I have really mixed feelings about this resort but my true rating would be about 3.8. This resort on a private island is absolutely stunning and has a free shuttle water taxi available that leaves St.Marks square every 30 minutes. Make sure you get to the boat docking area 10 minutes prior to guarantee you entry. I love how easy it is to get to and from the hotel and back to the mainland. Hotel staff were all amicable and some even went above and beyond to assist us. The island itself had breathtaking views and I adored the lovely Olive Garden which they use to make their own olive oil. Delicious! The room was minimalistic but a bit underwhelming compared to other hotels we stayed at in Venice. The room did not include many essentials that most hotels provide (such as toothpaste) which was shocking to me. The Cucina breakfast was just decent and I would honestly skip this and go into the city for a proper meal. The meats were dry and it was almost always the same items every day, such as pastries, eggs, sausage and bacon. Rooftop bar's service was almost nonexistent and we had to walk to the bar to get our drinks continuously. Beautiful location and hopefully will be back to try other things on their resort such as their restaurant that is owned by a two Michelin star chef.

The hotel is on the campus of a former pulmonary hospital, and has beautiful gardens, on this "island of roses." We stayed here at the end of a cruise, wanting to see Venice. It's all about location! If you're interested in an isolated, beautiful location to relax and meditate, this is it. If you prefer to see Venice and be able to go in and out of your hotel room easily, this is not the ideal location. Registration was very chaotic with three different lines which we had to stand. The hotel should to redesign the registration process for large groups. They were totally unprepared with only three people to register and addition to the other lines we were required to stand in. I have been to all over the world, other hotels have figured this out and not burdened guests with chaotic lines. At registration I learned that the hotel routine charges €150 to your credit card per day for incidentals. You can decline this, which I did. Overall, if you prefer peace and tranquility this is a great location. If you prefer quick access to Venice, this is not for you

We just spent a week at the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa and loved every second. It is a gorgeous hotel with the most incredible staff. TAP Air Portugal lost my luggage and the concierge provided me with constant updates, on top of calling the Venice airport daily to ensure I got my bag back (I got it 3 days later). They also saw my date of birth on my passport during check-in (reservation was under my partner's name) and went above and beyond delivering chocolate and champagne to our room and even surprising us during breakfast. The hotel pool was so relaxing. After a day of exploring bustling Venice, nothing felt better than enjoying the city views from the pool with a nice Negroni. We also enjoyed walking the hotel grounds in the morning. These were filled with dozens of olive trees. They produce their own olive oil, which has a distinct taste due to the trees' unusual location -- we were even able to buy a small bottle and bring it back. Getting to and from Venice's St. Mark's square daily using their complimentary boat (runs every 30 mins) + staying at a private island felt very luxurious! We were worried about the boat's reliability, but it was always on time. The boat ride takes around 20 mins and it's quite beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast at Cucina was a hit, as expected. They had it all, and everything was top quality and absolutely delicious. As Titanium Members we also had access to coffees at Dispenza, a small coffee shop/bakery next to the lobby. We also tried the hotel's acclaimed restaurant, Sagra Rooftop Restaurant, and really enjoyed our al fresco dinner, albeit it wasn't the best one we had in Venice. We also did room service multiple times and both the pasta and pizza from there were phenomenal. We used SNAs and were upgraded to a Junior Suite. Unfortunately we got first level, so no balcony or crazy views, but the room was very spacious, modern, and very comfortable. We enjoyed having both a shower and bathtub. All in all, a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city. So glad we picked it.

My stay was beyond what I could've imagined! I booked a solo trip to Italy to celebrate my 45th birthday. Upon checking in with the front desk, they made me feel so comfortable that I felt right at home. I had a bit of jet lag from my 11hour flight and was elated to know that my room was not ready. They also helped coordinate my water taxi to pick me up from the airport. i felt like a celebrity like a scene out of 007 coming into the hotel. There is nothing like coming into your hotel in a sleek water taxi and being greeted by the hotel staff. The room was so spacious and don't get me started on the beautiful bathtub it was a great was to decompress and go into full vacation mode. I was initially worried that the hotel was a bit further from San marcos requiring a water taxi but those concerns rapidly vanished when I noticed a complimentary water taxi arrives every 15 minutes & goes back and forth between the hotel and San Marcos. As if things could not end on a better note, the awesome hotel sent me off with a warm cup of coffee and gifted me a beautiful tin cookie box with an image of the hotel that I had been eyeballing. I have been recommending this hotel to everyone I know! if you are on the fence, def book this hotel !!! You won't regret it!

We were very disappointed in this place from the start. No help with our luggage when we arrived at the dock via water taxi from St Mark's Square. We had to schlep them up the hill and steps to check in. We waited for around 30 minutes in line to check in. It was so hot in the lobby and no water available. Finally, we got our room and it was dated, stuffy, viewed a gravel parking lot, and the air conditioning did not work-super hot in there. After several discussions with the manager, who kept dismissing me, we were finally moved to a much cooler room with an actual view; A lagoon view room that we had reserved in the first place. The ice machines were all broken and the elevator wasn't working either. It made a weird sound the whole time we were there. Super annoying. Food was bland and way overpriced. The breakfast was chaotic with dirty tables everywhere. In the room, the commode and bidet were cracked and there was mold in the bathroom. Lighting was terrible in the room with two bulbs out. The exterior was also moldy with unmaintained landscaping. Don't trust the pics, they're misleading and this place isn't JW worthy. I will add that the people working at this "resort" are snobbish and rude. Not worth the stay and we will will never go back. We do not recommend.

This hotel has so much potential. Unfortunately it suck. Terrible service, filthy rooms, carpet and floors. It doesn't have that luxury and fine hotel and resorts quality from top to bottom. My room smelled like BO after the two cleaning ladies left. They also took the outlet that we purchased to charge our phones. When my husband called the receptionist they didn't do anything about it. We didn't get it back, they could careless. The cleaning people suck, they also moved our stuff in the bathroom and pile them all on one side. Who does that? Usually they don't touch or move any personal items. Plus we're missing some towels for whatever reason. It's very strange how they operate here. They seem to care about their job. One server gave me an unpleasant attitude. I was having breakfast minding my own business she came to me with a cup of cappuccino that I never asked for. I told her no it's not for me, I never asked for it. She rolled her eyes and sighed. She was so annoyed like I was lying to her. Then it turns out it was the other girl who asked for it, the table next to me. The server is an idiot. She didn't even apologize to me. She just turned away looking miserable. (I didn't get her name unfortunately, but she's short and she's wearing some thick eye glasses). Another server that has a nasty attitude, I asked for water, then she walked away and complained to her colleague that I asked for water. A bunch of them are standing and doing nothing. I waited I wasn't sure if she heard my request. She came back after few minutes and handed the glass water. I didn't drink it, because I didn't trust her, she probably spit on it.

After our 3-day stay with this hotel, we spent two nights at the AC Marriott in Bologna, and boo hoo, I miss the Venice JW so very much. Why? I'LL TELL YOU WHY. 1) Absolutely sweet-hearted staff all-around who will assist you in every manner needed (luggage hold, restaurant recommendations, museum ticket purchases, etc.) and do it all with the kindest greetings despite seeing five bajilion obnoxious tourists per day. I don't think any other country I've visited has a hotel where the staff are genuinely nice to tourists for the sake of being nice instead of simply as professional. 2) The whole place smells lovely. It really does. For being an island, it's a rather fragrant thing. 3) There's an olive orchard (likely more for looks than product) and church from the 1920's out between some buildings, so be sure to gallivant out there sometime. 4) The lobby is welcoming, full of couches and chairs, and in the far back, past where a live band plays at night and behind a translucent curtain or two, one can recline on a futon-esque-thing if one is okay with possibly committing a social faux-pas. 5) A well-maintained water shuttle is ready to take guests to and from the hotel and the main island every half hour. The first shuttle from Venice proper leaves at 8:00, and the first from the hotel at 8:30. The latest, if I remember correctly, is midnight on both ends. The shuttle takes you right to shore between the main gondola service lot and the San Marcos water bus service -- very convenient. 6) Hotel toiletries are generally blegh, but theirs are great, and the conditioner is quite effective. 7) Complimentary Illy Coffee in your room with the cutest espresso mugs, four water bottles replenished during their TWICE-A-DAY room service, and a sweet little gift of 70% dark chocolate left on each pillow each day. Cute cute. BONUS: If you're Marriott Platinum, there is a welcome gift to choose from as well as free breakfast for each of your mornings. The welcome charcuterie board was HUGE with generous helpings of 3 cheeses, 3 meats, honey, olives, and mustard full of mustard seeds. The breakfast, too, is amazing, with a mimosa bar, sauteed vegetables, bacon and sausages, actually-good fruit, hot egg options, pastries, coffee made to order, juices, etc. Their mushrooms were cooked to perfection. I could've made a meal out of them alone. (And think about this: a mimosa bar that opens at 7am.) If there's anything to be a bit sad about: as the hotel is on an island, the seawater takes its toll on some of the fixtures, but then again, you're ON A HOTEL ON A PRIVATE ISLAND. read more
I truly can't say enough good things about the JW Venice. From beginning to end we felt like royalty as every single staff member went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They were also very helpful. You feel like James Bond when you step out of the train station, walk out to the Grand Canal and step onto a speed boat and into the very picturesque entrance. They had an AMAZING breakfast buffet with just about anything you could think of. We also loved the bar off the lobby and had excellent service from Pietro. My only complaint which is minor is the fact that the family pool is far ish and off to itself. It was extremely hot when we were there and if you didn't get there early you were right in the sun. The pool servers were very helpful though they brought us umbrellas and water. The adult pool is AMAZING as well and wow what views from up there! Highly recommend this property! We will definitely go back. read more

Great hotel. Even though it is on a private island it is worth the trip. Everything about the hotel is wonderful. The staff are extremely polite and the whole hotel is spotless. Food in the hotel is fabulous. I will definitely be coming back. read more
This was the best room I've ever stayed in! It was 2 stories with an outdoor patio. We had a bathroom on each floor and a foldout couch for our guest on the first foot. This Marriott is on it's own island with shuttle service to and from San Marcos Square every 1/2 hour. It also went to Murano regularly. It had an entrance directly into the Marriott which was quite dramatic. The restaurants there were superb, in fact, I wrote a review about one of them. The whole island is beautiful and I could probably stay there and do nothing, but I was in Venice. Venice kept calling me and I had to go. Such a dilemma when you're staying in such a beautiful city and staying in such a beautiful room. We were there 5 days and we didn't want to leave. I don't have many vacations that I felt so bad leaving. Venice I will be back. Ahhh, now if only I could get the same room. read more

Italy can be a very rude place to visit. I've heard amazing stories of friends who visited certain cities but my personal interaction with Italy has been disappointing. Never met so many rude people in one country. Talk about ruining a great country and never wanting to go back. I guess with that many tourist, my opinion doesn't really matter. So our last two nights we decided to stay here. Both was this place a game changer. Saved my vacation in Italy. Staff super friendly. Well trained. Polite! Went out of their way to be helpful. Very Marriottish!!!!!! Ha! I mean, you can expect a certain kind of service from a JW. I got it! Very glad this place exist! I highly recommend this place. Can say enough great things about this little island. read more

I've stayed at numerous JW Marriotts. This one is by far my all time favorite. The grounds are absolutely beautifully maintained. We had the honor of staying in one of the villas right after they were finished. The living area was nice and spacious. The beautiful lighted glass staircase lead to a cozy bedroom. The automated drapes opened up to a wall of glass doors with the most stunning view. Waking up in the morning to drink coffee on our own private sun patio was a dream. If we knew how charming this hotel was we would have planned to stay longer in Venice. I highly recommend this JW. 5 Stars is not enough to convey how alluring this hotel is. read more
Private island getaway with the luxury you would expect from an american company right at the door steps of Venice Italy. This private island resort is located about a 30 minute boat ride from the maddening tourist crowds of venice where you can easily excape to, but also be right in the action. I am glad I chose this hotel when booking this part of my Italy trip because It allowed us to just relax and enjoy the ammenities that would be expected from a hotel of this caliber.. Ammenities that are definetly lacking in similary pricey european versions of luxury hotels.. You can expect to stay in larger rooms than the standard european rooms and they come fully equiped to make sure all your needs are taken care of.. simple things that can make a world of difference to international travels.. such as built in chargers for standard 120v plugs.. no more having to pull out a converter to charge up the iphones.. but they dont just stop there.. they have also included dual iphone chargers.. something we see here in the US as no big deal but in europe hard to find in most hotels. The luxury features continue such as heated and cooling towel racks right next to your full size soaking tub..but dont sweat it a separate full size walking rain shower is also available as well as a private toilet room.. so as you can guess this bathroom is giant.. The TV does include english speaking channels which can be welcoming on a long trip. Beds were fairly large and comfortably,,and includes his her sandles and robes. Rooms also had a coffee machine but as usual didnt include much creamer.. My particular villa room came with its own private back yard with outdoor seating. The resort has 3 options as far as where u can stay.. the main resort building which seems to accomodate most of the 250 rooms and is close to the restaurants and bar as well as roof top pool.. The next option are private villa rooms or residents which is completely separted and more secluded from the main building. I think i counted about about 12 rooms. These villas come with the option of your own private back yard or private pool facing the ocean.. We stayed in the villas and would totally recommend this option. The third option was the multi room villas which seems to accomodate large families. The resort is located on a small island but is large enough that is has many secluded areas to explore such as its own separate church as well as well a separate building for its high end dinner options. There is a separate pool for kids and is surrounded by a small fruit and vegetable garden.. The main building boasts an infinity roof top pool with a killer view of venice in the distance. There are a few restaurants in the main buidling as well as a few bars.. one in the lobby and one upstair by the pool. Both opens late into the night which is great if you are looking for a night cap. The Cucina Daily Restaurant is where i ate breakfast everyday and has everything you can dream up for breakfast.. including hands on chefs to make whatever you need or cant find in there buffet style setup. This resort also boasts a 2 star michelin chef Giancarlo Perbellini who takes care of dinner in a separate dining building. What truely defines a luxury resort for me would be service.. and JW has this down.. as soon as you get off the JW boat shuttle you are taken care of immediately by the very welcoming and knowledgeable staff.. Excellent service continued without hestitation trueout our entire stay here and not only included the front desk staff but the dock greeters to room service ladies to the restaurant staff.. My only downfall to this JW experience would be the complimentary shuttle service that runs the guest from St. Marks Square to our hotel island.. Being that we were travelling in summer time, the temperatures are high and uncomfortable.. so entering a shuttle boat that is really hot on the inside as well is not a fun experience. Most guest came off the shuttle looking like they ran an maraton and it has a lot to do with that there is not enough air flowing through the cabin. Also the shuttle staff was not the most helpfull.. I had to drag my bags on and off the boat my self and no communication or help was given by these guys.. I do believe this is a third party company that does the shuttle service but I do think that JW needs to monitor this.. it would definelty hinder a guest from making a future booking with them.. Its great once on the island but getting 2 and from the island is not fun unless its cool outside.. A representative of the hotel being on board would really help this part of the experience. Overall great experience if you are looking to get away and be pampered. read more

Venice is beautiful, but this resort was over the top. The staff, accommodations, service, and food were nothing short of a five star resort. The resort is on a private island (33 acres) and about a 20-25 minute boat ride from St. Marks square. Marriott provides a free water taxi every 15 minutes. It was wonderful to get away from the crowds at the end of the day and enjoy Venice in peaceful surroundings. Only a couple of of downsides 1) while the food and beverage is top notch it comes with a hefty price tag - so I recommend if you like to snack pick up a few things before heading back to the hotel 2) must give yourself extra time to get to airport or train when leaving and the transportation is pricey €150 for water taxi to airport. read more
This is a beautiful property and the staff are very professional and well trained. The rooms are large for Europe, with a very minimalist vibe. There's a lot of unused space, they have a chair in the room, but there's space for a sofa. The out door furniture is beautiful, but again there aren't enough seating / lounge areas, they fill pretty quickly. The food is very expensive, over 25 euros for a small chicken wrap with a cup of greens. And that's at the pool. The shuttle to San Marco is well organized. Why 4 stars? Its not wheelchair friendly. Many paths are loose stone, and there are a lot of areas w just stairs. And.....there's a defensiveness here, like they expect you to ask for too much so they incorporate an excuse into the answer. Mngmt seems to expect guests to be rule breaking, so at various intervals we were treated with some suspicion....I asked about late check out. And when they called back I got this long story about how booked the hotel is, there's only one late arrival but because I'm platinum....they could give me til 2:30. Finally able to speak, I said 1:30 was when we would be leaving. Oh....ok...he said. It's just a pet peeve of mine. At a luxury property, even if guests do take advantage, they shouldn't make that part of how they treat all guests. read more
I have had mixed feelings about this hotel. It is on a very fancy private island (cue splendid gardens and a pool with an amazing view on the Venice skyline) and it is a brand-new hotel, with all the comfort you can imagine. The rooms are really nice, the bed too, and you have complimentary snacks and wine on your desk. However, service was a bit weird - they knocked on my door for 5 full minutes around 7pm, and when I went out of the shower to open, they just wanted to ask if I was satisfied with the cleanliness of my room. Same thing the day after - they knocked at 8:30am, 9am and 9:30am (!!!) to ask when I intended to check out and if I needed any help. I understand they want to show how caring they are, but that was completely over the top. read more

My family went to the JW Marriott for two days before departing on a cruise out of Venice. My review varies tremendously depending on what area of the hotel we are discussing. Basically, the star rating would have been a 5 if it were not for the room we had, which was disappointing to say the least. That can be avoided, so just make sure you get a better room that they gave us and you'll have an amazing experience. First Impression When I arrived I was blown away by what a beautiful resort it is from the moment you step off the boat. The lobby is huge, beautiful and welcoming. They supply complimentary water bottles to guests from the moment you arrive until you leave. Shuttle Transportation We found that the shuttle transportation was great while we were staying at the hotel. It was always exactly on time with the schedule. The boat was large so there never was an issue with getting onto the boat even though the hotel apparently was fully booked. It stopped right next to the Plaza San Marco which, if you haven't been to Venice, is the main area. Breakfast Buffet The breakfast buffet was included with the room. It was outstanding. The selection included basically anything you can think of plus more. Among other things, they made omelettes to order and had bottles of prosecco available for the taking. The breakfast would cost $50 per person per day in Miami. It definitely adds to the value of the hotel. Bar My husband and I went to the bar twice, once on our own and once with my family. When we went with my family we all wanted to order some snacks but the menu was very limited and ridiculously overpriced. When we went alone we ordered dessert and it was really good. Do remember that, since the hotel is on an island, they will overcharge for everything you buy while you are there. We kept bottles of wine in our room to limit our purchases at the bar. Pool There are two pools at the hotel- one on the rooftop and one on ground level. We only went to the one on the rooftop and it was fantastic!!!! It has plexiglass at the end to be like an infinity pool and what you see from there is all of the area of Venice near St. Mark's square. The drinks are great and they serve them to you in the pool. There are jets that you can turn on while you are in the pool too. Overall, it has unbelievable views and is an amazing experience - I definitely recommend going to the pool. Rooms My family had three rooms that we booked together using our Marriott points - 40,000 per night each for Deluxe rooms (two with king beds and one with two twin beds). When I got to my room I was disappointed. Specifically, my husband and I had our two-year-old daughter with us while the other two rooms have two people each. We advised the hotel that we would need an extra bed for a child and they received that information and put a cot in our room. However, they did not give us a room with a bathtub for a child. Additionally, the stark contrast between our room and the other two rooms - despite having all reserved the same room type and ours having the most people in it - was really just unbelievable. For instance, each of my families' rooms had really nice, large bathrooms that each had a shower, a bathtub, a separate toilet area and two sinks. Our bathroom was small, had one tiny little shower which seemed to have a problem with the showerhead staying in place, no bathtub and one sink. The other two rooms were large with three windows each that bring in tons of light, give fantastic views and have plenty of space to move around. Our room had one window, was small and dark. Basically, I would compare their room to ours as theirs being like a suite on a cruise ship and ours being the crews' quarters. So, I was disappointed already when I walked into our room but after seeing their rooms - which looked like what I expected after seeing the lobby - I was just plain appalled that there could be such a huge variation in what I understand are supposed to be the same room type. I asked for a different room but they said they were fully booked so we were stuck in that room for our two day stay. The lesson here - if you get a deluxe room, ask for one on the corner of the building. They are way better than the regular, non-corner rooms. read more

Just returned from a wonderful 8-day stay there. The staff are excellent and highly attentive (Giulia in particular was most helpful). The facilities, the view, and the surroundings on a private island are all outstanding. Being on a private island is a mixed bag. Overall, getting away from the tourist mobs in Venice was great. There's a free shuttle to San Marco at 30 minute intervals, so once you're on the island you're never really isolated - although you do feel like it! The downside is getting there/going home. We took a water taxi from the airport to San Marco and thence on another shuttle to the Marriott. Felt like it took forever (nearly an hour and a half) to get there because of all the stops. It cost 15 Euros. For 140 Euros, you can take a private taxi directly to the island in about half the time. If you've got more money than time or if you've been on a plane for a number of hours and just want to get there in a hurry, consider taking a private taxi - but it won't be cheap. There was some bad, but nothing bad enough to knock off a star. My gf has experience running a restaurant in the US and found the restaurant/bar service to be extremely slow at times. However... the pace of life is slower here, so what irritated her didn't bother me. The prices of various things were also quite high: 6 Euros for a can of Pepsi or 18 Euros for a shot of vodka. But... you go to a place like this, higher prices come with the territory. We learned pretty quickly to buy items at grocery/convenience stores on one of the main islands and store them in the room fridge. I'd definitely stay here again! read more

It takes some time to get to this hotel if you arrive at Piazalle Roma. You have to walk to the water shuttle, ride that for 20 minutes while making stops, disembark and board the hotel shuttle, which takes another 30 minutes. Something to plan for when arriving or wanting to go back to San Marco via the hotel shuttle. We spent 3 great days in one of the "La Mainsonette Loft Suites" which is a bi-level, 2 bathroom suite. Shower was amazing and I wanted to spend an hour in there each day. The outside and surrounding buildings are very charming. You are surrounded by olive trees and separated from the main hotel structure. The inside of the the suite was very modern, yet bland. Lots of white and not much on the walls. We had drinks and some food in the Rose Bar Lounge on the night of arrival. While there were only 3 tables at the time of arrival, it took forever to get the attention of the lone bartender. We ordered drinks and they arrived 15 minutes later. Service was horribly slow, but we decided not to care that much since we were going to relax after a day of travelling. We order a burger, some bruschetta and another round of drinks. The food was again, very slow to arrive, but surprisingly came out BEFORE our second round of drinks. When I approached the bartender to get our drinks, he said, "you didn't get them yet?" I found this odd since he appeared to be the only one working the entire time. Wouldn't you remember if you brought us our drinks? The location is nice to return to after a day of touring the crowded Venice street and alleys. It's very serine and the grounds are meticulous. The pool looked inviting on the roof of the main building the night we checked in, but it was so cold outside, I couldn't imagine anyone swimming in late October. Had we been told it was heated, we may have thought differently. As a Marriott Rewards member, we used points for the stay. It was well worth it and we were very glad we chose this hotel. read more
I am so glad we chose this as our hotel during our time in Venice. This was the most friendly and professional staff I've experienced in a long while. Everything we needed they accommodated and did so with haste. I enjoyed the service immensely. If I am ever to return to Venice, I would most certainly stay here- no question. read more

My fiancee and I stayed here last week and I can't speak higher about a resort property. JW Marriott is top-notch. Where can I start? How about the private boat ride that takes you directly into the hotel (an additional fee, though, but well worth it). The restaurants and room service? Amazing and delicious. It was a bit cold but that didn't stop us from enjoying a gorgeous rooftop pool, complete with Venice skyline view. To top it all off, every hotel employee we dealt with was so friendly, so courteous, this was just the icing on the cake. It's a private island off of Venice but there's a free ferry that runs every 30 minutes, and takes about 20 minutes to take your right to St. Mark's Place. Don't miss out. Next time in Venice, give JW a shot and you won't be disappointed. read more

This is a fantastic property! I'd give 4.5 stars out of 5 if that was an option. Positives features include: 1). Friendly staff in all areas! Everyone was super nice in the hotel and the restaurants including GIARDINO RESTAURANT/Grill (by the family pool) and Cucina restaurant for breakfast. We felt welcome and appreciated. 2). Gorgeous grounds away from the Venice hustle yet convenient to get there when desired. 3). Nice family pool and great gym. (We viewed the rooftop pool and it looked great but we didn't use it because we had our 9 year old son with us) 4). We had a loft villa, which was extremely nice; very spacious and private outside patio area. 5). The breakfast quality and variety at Cucina is amazing! Staff is great too. Outstanding way to start the day! Some critiques preventing a perfect 5 star score: 1). We were offered an upgrade at check-in to a villa with a private pool - for an extra fee. I'm Marriott GOLD status so if an upgrade was available why didn't we get complimentary upgrade? I don't understand. 2). Every time we ordered a round of drinks from Giardino, while at the family pool, we had to close and sign our tab. Why can't we run a tab until we close out and ready to leave? Inconvenient policy. 3). Upon checkin to our villa we found a nasty cigarette butt on our private deck area, in obvious view (not hidden out of sight). We just left it there assuming it was an oversight and that it would get clean up soon. Never happened. Four days latter, after our third night it was still there. My wife and I don't smoke and found it disgusting. 4). I booked through a third party site (Expedia) because I had a better offer than directly from hotel site. Not specific to JW Marriott Venice, but Marriott overall should recognize all Marriott Rewards Members the same (with points, perks, and such) no matter how reservations are made. Loyalty is loyalty, don't disrespect it. Overall the JW Marriott is amazing and my family and I are extremely glad that we visited this resort. read more

Where to start! If you are traveling to Venice anytime soon it is worth it to experience this amazing Resort! Although the pricing may look higher than some other hotels nearby, it will feel like a bargain when you leave! I would have paid twice as much for the level of service, and the quality of every square foot of this amazing property. First of all it is one of the coolest feelings in the world riding the free shuttle boat to the hotel (20 minutes) , and seeing the water entrance (very James Bond 007esque!) we also immediately went to the spa for a much needed massage and it was amazing with the massage room overlooking the water out to Venice. Then we had an absolutely amazing room with a fantastic balcony looking out over the property! The room service staff were absolutely amazing, all the staff deserve five stars! A special mention goes to Anna, who helped us at check in. She was able to recommend the best things in Venice, get us rooftop access passes and a shopping discount, and the gelato place she recommended was out of this world. Overall everyone on the staff was exceptional, and we could not have asked for a better ending to our honeymoon. So if you are heading to Venice, knock two things off your bucket-list! Venice AND a stay at the IMPRESSIVE JW Marriott Resort. You owe it to yourself... read more

This hotel is amazing! The hotel itself is very clean, very modern, just a beautiful hotel. It is on a private island with a beautiful grounds and great outdoor amenities, including great things for kids. The food is fantastic, although it is very expensive. The staff in-service was also amazing. I have been to a lot of Marriotts all over the world and have to say this is one of their best properties. read more

An outstanding property! Take a private vaporetto to and from St. Mark's Square every 30 minutes. Quiet property with spacious rooms, excellent food, and friendly service. By far the best J.W. that I have visited. Make sure to talk to Vittorio, the head concierge. His recommendations as a native Venetian are on the mark. read more

I travel for work and stay at 80+ nights per year at 15-20 hotels in US, Europe and Asia. I was so pleasantly surprised with this resort on my family vacation with my wife and our four children. In terms of experience, it is one of the top places I would select for a family trip. Head and shoulders above any Marriott or ritz property. Great kids club. Several pools including a rooftop infinity pool and bar overlooking Venice San Marco. Private villas w own pool and private boat to Venice every half hour. One 39 euro resort charge includes kids club for four children with cooking classes, mask painting and many other activities, free bikes on the Resort island, excursions to lace and glass making. My wife really did not want to visit Venice and expected to be miserable here with the kids. She said it was her favorite property, topping Hawaii, south of France, Tuscany, Croatia and the previous favorite, four seasons in Buenos Aires. Property built in 2015. I hope it stays this nice. Highly recommend. read more
Wow! Great service & amenities. Obviously not cheap but definitely worth it. JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa sits on its own island. This resort is beautiful; it's too bad we didn't have much time to walk around the island. There's a complimentary shuttle going back and forth between their island & San Marco pretty frequently. Everyone we encountered here was so sweet and helpful. There is a great heated rooftop pool here with amazing views. A church's being built when we were here in early April. We had dinner at their rooftop restaurant, which was unfortunately just ok. read more

I booked three rooms at the JW Marriott Venice hoping for an excellent JW Marriott service. The JW Marriott at Venice was one of the most chaotic and most mismanaged hotels I have ever stayed at. I have stayed in Italy before with Marriott and never experience such behaviour. We were told to use the "Family Pool" as we had a family. I though this would be a good idea...until I realised that the restaurant hadn't been completed, the toilet area was a single shared toilet and there were no changing areas. Furthermore - there were digging equipment (JCB-type vehicles) working across from the pool - that was the view. No attempt was made to screen guest from this by erecting a rudimentary screen for both privacy and aesthetics. Again - not what I would expect from a 5-start hotel. When I mentioned this at checkout - I was told that they just opened that pool and that they just opened 3-months ago. But that begs the question - why was my entire family actively encouraged to use that pool then? We had a half-board booking that included dinner. Great...expect that the hotel restaurant was a completely disaster. Wonderfully friendly staff and I became recognised by the end of the stay. That said...they were completely unprepared and mismanaged. Indoor staff (1 person) were being pulled outdoor to cover for staff shortage there...that meant we were regularly waiting for attention for simple things. I had to get up from the table and find someone on regular occasions to speak to. I was polite to the staff as I don't see this as their fault. The fault clearly lies with the Food and Beverage manager for not working with the Front of Office manager to understand expected volume and manage the inside/outside staff separately. One night - it took us 3.5 to 4 hours to have a simple 3-course dinner (and we knew what we wanted). I compare this to the JW Marriott Dubai - and the difference is not comparable. 3rd and most distressing...I discovered an accounting error in their billing system to the sum of 1200 euros on my invoice. The room rate I was staying on entitled each root to 50 euros of resort credit. I noticed the bill was slightly higher than I expected but I assumed this was okay as "resort credit" was listed on the bill. I kept looking at the receipt and finally plugged the itemized invoice into Excel. I realised I should have been charged approximately 5900 euros. Instead, I had been charged 7100 Euros. Not only had my resort credit not been applied it had been CHARGED to my room, making the error 1200 euros in total. When I pointed this out to the front desk - they were confused. It took a while for them to believe me...then they said that the "resort credit" had been incorrectly coded as a room charge instead of a room credit in the billing system and their finance team would need to sort it out. It is a beautiful hotel and location. Staff were friendly. That said, I simply cannot recommend this hotel if I compare it to other 5-star hotels and resorts. It fails there due to mismanagement and lack of attention to detail. If it was an Orlando family resort in the middle of summer - it would be getting 4-5 stars...but it isn't. It's a 5-star JW Marriott in Venice. :) I could see how it could get a higher review - but not in the peek of summer at around 90% capacity - they just simply weren't prepared for Venice's summer rush. read more

Awesome resort that's isolated on a beautiful island. They provide a free boat ride to town and back. Restaurants here are great but pricey. They have an amazing infinity pool that overlooks the entire city. Service was amazing. They also had a good gym. We will definitely return in our next trip to Venice. read more

I just came back from a two-week vacation in France and Italy and I would have to say from a hotel perspective, the JW Marriott in Venice offered the most amazing hotel experience! We had a beautiful junior suite which had an amazing balcony. Services from checkin to checkout was on point and always first class. The island is beautiful and we only wished we stayed longer than we did. The hotel offers a free shuttle from San Marco Square every 30 minutes and offers breathtaking views of Venice! read more

Amazing hotel in the bay near Venice. Highly recommend staying here. The rooftop pool is a must to cool off during the heat of the day.

This JW Marriott Hotel on it's own island is nice but it is far from the 5 Star Hotel that they claim it to be. 5 Star Hotels have air conditioning that works. After sweating through a 2 hour maintenance melee in my room, they decided to move me. The new room a/c was better but not as good as a Courtyard's a/c. 74 degrees is not cold. 5 Star Hotels don't have thin, scratchy towels but this was does. Lastly, the 22 year old "captains" of the launch that takes you to St. Marks need a little training. I watched them sit as seniors wrestled their luggage on board. One sat in the canal bobbing around while two passengers were getting sea sick below. He was in no hurry to dock until I said something to him then suddenly we were docking. The kids pool is fair but nothing near a 5 Star. The Sacar restaurant on the top floor was fair, not special. Positives: Housekeeping and Concierge were both 5 Star. They look good at doing Weddings. I saw 2 while i was there. read more

What a wonderful romantic getaway. Perfect to celebrate my fiance and I engagement! The food at dopolavoro was the best food I have ever eaten in my life! AND they drove us in the golf cart to the boat shuttle to St.Marks square so we wouldn't miss it! Rooms were great-and the bed was super comfy! Staff was very friendly! I cannot remember names, but they were all great! Only cons are that I wish the infinity pool was open later than 8 pm and had more seating. Also, the food at the rooftop was slightly overpriced for what you get-but a great view! Also, I am a gold member and was asked to upgrade hotel rooms for a price, usually we get upgraded without an extra price. I would definitely go back! read more

We stayed for 5 nights in a La Maisonette Pool Loft Suite. It is a bit of a walk from the main hotel buildings, but we had our own very private deck, courtyard and pool to relax. Most nights we spent on the deck in our chairs enjoying the surroundings and feeling like we were at our private residence in Venice! Prompt shuttle takes us to St Marks and we can escape to the private JWM island when we are done with the shitshow to relax. Fantastic service and housekeeping. Concierge (Sara) was helpful in planning our day trips to Murano and the Authentic Venice cooking class with Chef Micki the cooking class made our entire stay worth every penny! We met Chef in the lobby at 8am and went with him in a private taxi up the grand canal to Rialto market, where we shopped for the fresh fish and vegetables we would use for the cooking class. Chef also took us to a cafe for a small breakfast and to a small bar for some wine and cichetti. We loved our 6-hour Authentic Venice cooking class (250 euro pp) that we immediately booked a cichetti class for two days later (80 euro pp). It was fun to meet the JW staff who would pop-in to say hello. Chef Mauro and Iris from mgmt were delightful to chat with. Breakfast at Cucina every morning was a perfect way to start the day and the Sagra rooftop restaurant has a mushroom ravioli that I still think about. We had the 10 course tasting menu (180 euro pp) at the Michelin star Dopolavoro restaurant with a wine pairing (90 euro pp) to accompany the delicious food. Thanks to Matteo for our service and the sommelier for a meal to remember! Overall, this was a perfect vacation for us so we could combine visiting a historic city and relax and eat at a beautiful resort. The best food in Venice is located at this JW Marriott resort! read more

This place was beyond amazing. Got upgraded to the premium suite and felt like a princess. The property is beautiful, front desk and concierge are friendly and helpful. Love that the boat shuttle has USB outlets to charge my phone. Only bad thing is if you have an early flight you have to hire a boat taxi to get you there and that ran 145 euro. I was also a little surprised that they were charging 20 euro for the bikes they keep out front. read more

We absolutely loved our stay at the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa. The fact that it's on its own private island and only accessible by boat made the whole experience feel so peaceful and unique. It truly felt like an escape from the crowds of Venice. Our room was beautiful. We had a balcony overlooking the grounds, and it was so quiet and serene. The bathroom was gorgeous, complete with a soaking tub that I was so excited to use...although we stayed so busy exploring that I never actually got the chance! One feature I did get to enjoy was the heated towel rack, and now I'm convinced I need one at home. It made every shower feel so luxurious. When we arrived, the hotel surprised us with a bottle of champagne and a small box of cookies, which was such a thoughtful welcome gift. They also provided nightly turndown service, and somehow they always seemed to come while we were out. We'd come back each evening to a perfectly refreshed room without ever noticing they'd been there. The food was excellent throughout our stay, but my favorite was honestly the breakfast buffet. I looked forward to it every morning. They made fresh omelets with whatever ingredients you wanted, and there was a turkey breakfast dish with tomatoes and peppers that I never would have thought to order, but it ended up being one of my favorite things I ate the entire trip. I went back for it every morning. The only downside was the dining situation. Since the resort is on its own island, you're limited to the restaurants on property. The rooftop restaurant was fantastic, but reservations are definitely needed, and I wish we had known that ahead of time. If you're planning a stay, I highly recommend making your dinner reservations before you arrive so you don't miss out. Overall, this was such a relaxing and memorable stay. Between the beautiful property, thoughtful service, comfortable rooms, and great food, I would absolutely stay here again. read more
