I'm so thankful that I found this salon! After relocating to the area 7 months ago it's been hard to decide where to go get my hair done. It's such a hard decision to start over with a stylist and it's always a scary experience! At Jyl Craven, from the second I walked in the front door, I felt welcomed and comfortable. The ladies working the front desk were so sweet and welcoming, there was a cute little retail area to browse while waiting on your stylist and it's just an overall good feeling. Then, I met my new stylist, Morgan! I was randomly assigned a stylist when I made my appointment online but I'm so lucky that it was her! From the second she greeted me in the lobby she was bubbly, excited and so ready to get to know me!! I talked to her about some hair concerns I have and overall just explained why I was there, to meet a new stylist and get a quick trim for now. She was incredible, we chatted the entire time about so many great things and she just made me feel comfortable. I highly recommend trying to get an appointment with her! As far as the services go, the hair washing station is beautiful and more comfortable than any salon I've ever been in. The chairs they use while you're getting your hair done are also top of the line. And back to Morgan for a second, but that wash and scalp massage was the best I've ever received. I could have napped in that hair washing station I was so comfortable! Overall, I had a wonderful experience both in the salon overall and specifically with Morgan! My son and daughter gave me a coupon for Christmas, that I was so excited to use. I love the hair stylist that did my hair. She did not try to push products on me, very sweet and wanted to make me happy! However there was a pricing discrepancy, a big deal I was told the price would be on price $300 the price they charged me was $400 something that I was not prepared for, I love the stylist, I do not think she and I had a miss understanding, I know Jyl did the price increase they keep saying who told you the price everyone at the counter told me the price , along with the stylist. I would have been a loyal customer for ever. Now I never plan to go back... such a shame if anyone has had the same experience, I would love to know. Steer clear of JYL or stick to your guns! Here it goes: I went in wanting to get my hair cut and color balanced out. My actual color before going in was a tone lighter than my inspirational pic, pictured below (animal print jacket on) All I wanted was for the color throughout to be balanced out with some caramel colored pieces throughout: Perfectly like my inspo pic; as I myself was not at all far off from it. Meeting her, her overall demeanor was not very congenial; kind of short in conversation and standoffish. I figured maybe she's having a bad day, as I was too going in there. We all have those! But how I was treated that day and the next, proved that she's just that way all the time!? I showed her the inspirational pictures- color and cut - I informed her what my hair has a tendency to do, go red and I hate it: She briefly looked at them once and went and mixed up the color: She put maybe three foils in and then left me in the hands of a kind guy (with the mullet) who finished the foils; another girl washed; kind mullet guy came back and blow dried my newly ugly colored hair. I kindly informed him that I did not like the new muted orangy blonde biolage, as it was NOTHING like the picture I showed. I asked to please make it look like my inspirational pic: He, Not JYL, took me back and washed a toner into it. THEN another girl washed it and kind mullet guy came back and blow dried it just a little to see if I'd like it and again I did not, because it was not like the picture, NOT EVEN close, so he went and got JYL. She did not look amused and stated that putting another toner on it will only make it darker with red coming thru. So I again, asked for it to be darker, JYL cuts it maybe 3-4 times with the scissors, giving me the ugly shelf haircut picture with the crying face, (NOT AT ALL) like my inspo pic I showed her! Sends me back to a different girl who washed in a toner. I was not happy with that now darker orange ugly asss biolage! Now a DIFFERENT younger girl, who one could tell was new, did not even know how to properly blow dry hair to even give it body & style! I was nice and informed her how I'd like it blow dried using the roller brush and then teasing it to give my hair body and style. She did not have the coordination to do it, she was yanking my hair! The lady in the chair next to me was looking at me with her eyes wide open with a mortified look on her face as well! NO JOKE! I ended up being staticky with my hair sticking to my head! Showing off the hideous shelf haircut that JYL DID! I asked this young newbie to put some 'half beachy curls' in to try to make it look somewhat stylish: She kept the hair on the iron for what seemed like 30 seconds, which we know can burn off hair and severely damage your hair! I did not like it and I had her brush it out! By this time, I was fuming! It took everything inside of me to keep 'The Kraken' from raging! I did not want my hair to fry off with color and processing. I needed to go home, calm down, then make the phone call to have them fix it the very next day! The whole day, how I was bounced around, how I did not get what I showed pictures of, and being charged $320 (base w/o tip) nearly $400 for something I hated and did not ask for, was utterly unnerving and outrageous! I was MORTIFIED! Going in the next day, I thought that JYL was going to be fixing my hair, seeing how she is the one that screwed it up in the first place! She had the audacity to ignore me, not apologize, and I was pawned off to another stylist named Ansley. Ansley was nice and fixed my crappy haircut giving me close to the hairstyle I had originally asked for, having showed her the same inspo pictures I showed Jyl. Ansley just simply darkened it which made it another darker shade of orangey brown red! I chalked it up to a fuuuuck it and said I'm never going back! I'm WARNING people and going on the hunt for someone who knows how to properly handle my hair AND has a proper level of professionalism as well! I would love to GET SOME OF MY MONEY BACK, as what I'm rocking right now is not even close to what I asked for! I believe you, JYL, need an attitude adjustment and a refresher course in either Customer Service / Business Management 101. JYL, you could have at least had the common decency and proper level of business decorum, to at least come up to me and apologize; say your sorry and that you do not have the time to fix it and make it what you wanted,' but YOU DID NOT! You ignored me as I glared at you! People, She may have her name on the sign, but she does not know how to give you YOUR DESIRED design! In looking for a Salon to braid my hair for an event, I came across JYL. When making my appointment I inquired about the cost for a simple braid (not an updo). I was told for long hair, it would be between 45-65 dollars. When I arrived, I had a short conversation with the stylist and let her do what she thought best for a side braid. I think she did a nice job & appreciated that it took no more than 15-20 minutes to complete the braid. When I checked out, however, I was charged $110.00. I questioned the cost and stated it was just a braid, no cut, no wash, no color & was told "that is the price" I totally feel that I was overcharged, thus the reason for the 2 star review. I believe a shampoo & style would have cost less. In my opinion, the pricing makes no sense and is not in line with actual services. I finally found the best salon and stylist after arriving to Georgia in September 2018. It's been an interesting journey. I landed at JYL Craven with Shayna! I love my hair, the care, the professional detail, the treatments, it is all around a great experience ...every 4 weeks! Ha! Every time I come into the salon, I'm just blown away by the results when I leave! I swear they do magic or something because my hair always feels so insanely soft and looks just stunning every time I come in! I've had other hair salons end up not giving me what I want or breaking my hair, and I've come here and they've fixed it. They made my broken hair look like it was never broken in the first place! After being a client for over 15 years I was very disappointed with my last service. I couldn't get my usual level 3 stylist so I went with a level 6 stylist who had cut my hair one time. I had bad hair color going on from having bleached it out last year during the pandemic. The level 6 stylist suggested that we bleach my whole head again and I didn't question it since Level 6 at Jyl Craven is the highest skill level. What she did wrong, imo was massaging the bleach into my hair and scalp, even around my face and neck like it was moisturizing cream. She did not use any barrier for my skin to protect it from the bleach. The salon manager told me it is common practice when bleaching the entire head but nobody else seems to agree with that. I was burning and really red around my widow's peak when she finished styling my hair but she assured me there was no other redness around the back. The next day I had severe redness, itching, sores developing in my hairline, and blisters on my ears. I reached out to the stylist after a week of no improvement and she asked me to send photos. The following night she finally texted me back, then dismissed me stating it must have been something I put on my hair in one week after paying $300 for professional service. She suggested I use hydrocortisone cream and I didn't hear from her again. Another 2 weeks passed by and I went to the doctor for relief from the constant itch. He agreed with chemical burns and he prescribed a shampoo and topical for it. Nearly a month later I decided I needed to have it fixed and went to Jyl Craven in person and spoke to the salon manager. She never offered to try to help me or fix my hair, and since The Cravens were out of town until Monday December 13th, she would have Jason Craven call me. She half listened to my complaint, reluctantly glanced at my photographs, and she said it looks like an allergic reaction to her. I guess there's a big difference between the culpability level of chemical burns and allergic reactions.. She was very dismissive and unconcerned and I really didn't think I would get a phone call so I made an appointment with another salon. I was right because today is the 16th and no phone call has been received. I went back to Elon Salon where I had been a client 15 years earlier & for $200 she fixed my $295 worth of damage & my hair looks like nothing ever happened. I still have some pesky itching and dry skin around my neck and I hope that goes away completely and soon. My complaint is about how Jyl Craven salon met my concerns with rudeness, denial, and even had the nerve to contradict my Doctor. They followed all that unprofessionalism up with not even bothering to contact me as promised. I can't recommend them even though I really liked my level 3 stylist, who did a perfect job every time. read more

I went in today to get all over hair color and balayage highlights. During the time I was being worked on, I could tell the color was literally being "slapped" on my hair. I left with color all over my forehead. When I got to the chair to have my hair dried, the stylist acted as if she didn't have time to really style my hair and asked if I just wanted it blow dried. For what I had to pay to get my hair done there, I should not have left with hair color all over my forehead and feeling as though she didn't have time to even style my hair. As the Director of Education Mark Dotson is beyond a perfectionist. He is the epitome of excellence in his approach and delivery! He colors and cuts my hair, and makes sure I understand everything he does, and what I may need to strengthen and keep my hair healthy. Mark has a way of making sure that you are totally satisfied and your experience is the best - every time you come in. I"m beyond thankful for what he does. I want to also thank Carson, one of the most up and coming Rock Stars - oh yeah I said that b/c he is AWESOME! VERY disappointed, to say the least. BEWARE. I went in for a "color correction" from an over 100 day old partial highlight, to touch up the roots and was told by Blake that she could absolutely change the brassy toned old highlights to normal blonde roots highlight color. Fast forward to over $250 later ($59 for a 4 minute haircut by a level 5 stylist, which was literally less than a quarter of an inch trimmed off and zero "style" was added) and during the blow dry Blake stopped and asked me if I had "well water at my home". I do not, so I became concerned as she went on to tell me her assistant has well water and her highlighted hair turns brassy every few days because of the well water. I do not have well water, she chose the wrong low light color and highlight developer which caused the highlights to turn yellow and brassy. This caused alarm and I was shocked at the color I saw when I finally got to the smock changing room, finally equipped with mirrors close enough and lighting enough for a person to view their newly twice colored hair. My "low lights" are bronze/ PINK!!!! (my natural color is medium brown and I would like to assume that had the consultation NOT been done behind a solid dark wall & perhaps in true daylight/sunlight, Blake might have easily recognized my natural hair color as a "level 5 stylist".) The highlights are now even more orange/brassy combined with a pink color!!! From my hair from above my ears to my forehead only! And below my ears is a completely 3 different 3 shades. Although I was charged and told by Blake that "balayage" coloring would be done for a more natural look", she used foil to the roots of my hairline/forehead. Uneven I must add. FYI, Balayage coloring is are more expensive than highlights but she charged me for Balayage thinking I wouldn't recognize the difference. (View website for pricing difference) She then brought more than $160 worth of "product" to the register as her recommendation for healthier hair. I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience and price point paid for multiple color/streaky/brassy/orange/pink/uneven hair color (which Blake said would not be the outcome, she was very confident and made me feel confident and excited). Dec 2021- Danielle needed a male client for in-salon certification for men's hair. Started off with an evaluation followed by shampoo, rinse and scalp/shoulder massage. She took great care of me, my hair and beard. Their prices were surprisingly reasonable for a 'fancy' salon. Danielle's trainer is very experienced and gave Danielle good guidance using my input. If you're a guy they'll make you look good- if your woman is looking for a good salon do yourself a favor and get her there, she'll be glad you did. read more

Blake at JYL Craven was recommended by a highly respected realtor at a time when my wife's hair was a mess with color, style and overall condition. Blake has done an excellent job getting her hair looking beautiful and she's always receiving compliments. I've even had my hair cut at Jyl Craven and they recommended some supplements they sell and that I'm taking to help restore some hair loss. I often say when you walk into JYL Craven Hair Design "it feels like Buckhead in Cherokee County" because the interior is eye catching, the service excellent and the people including Jyl are awesome! I want to start out by saying that I have been going to Jyl Craven for years and have never had a bad experience. However today seem to be the exception. To be fully transparent the top half of my hair is blonde and the bottom half is black. I was looking for more summer color so I called to make an appointment and told the receptionist that I wanted my black to be turned to Brown and my blonde to be lightened. They scheduled my appointment at 6:30 PM at night and I asked the receptionist if that would be enough time because I understand with changing from black it could be a process. The receptionist assured me that this would be fine and there shouldn't be a problem. When I arrived the hairstylist seemed very apprehensive I did a consultation about my options. She mainly said that I could only get half of my hair done and I can come back another time to finish the rest. I was a little bit apprehensive but I completely understand how somethings like this can be a process and this was the only option. I asked her to check to see the next time I could come in so I could get the other half of my hair done. When she came back from checking she brought the manager with her and the manager spoke to me like I was incompetent and did not understand what a color process looks like. At first I was confused why she brought the manger back because I agreed to get the other half of my hair done another time. I tried to tell them that I understood and it felt like they were attacking me. They continue to belittle me and make me feel like I did not understand. It was humiliating. It caused a scene and it felt like people were looking at me as if I was saying no. I ended up leaving crying. No color or haircut. The most upsetting thing about this entire experience is how much I was looking forward to getting my hair done for the summer and how much I up until this point valued them as a business. They handled the situation extremely poorly even though it shouldn't have been a situation and they could've talk to me like I was a competent human being. I will not be going back. read more

After leaving a less than stellar review, I was called and offered the opportunity to come in and have another stylist at the salon salvage my rather bad haircut. Unfortunately, being the Christmas season, could not break away from the cooking, cleaning and preparing for my family coming for the holidays, and later in the week, meeting "old friends" that I have not seen for nine years for a luncheon on the other side of town. I suffer chronic illness that has resulted in noticeable hair loss, so I visited the salon to have a "topper" wig trimmed. The trim itself was well done - not much needed, just a trim on the back, took less than 10 minutes. But the reason for my mediocre review is insensitive comments made by the stylist. When I told the stylist of my health situation, he was very condescending saying, "I don't know what you're so worked up about. Some of my clients have a lot less hair than you do." (He installs a semi-permanent wig system called Evolve at the salon to women with excessive hair loss). When I explained to him that my noticeable hair loss has lead to emotional stress and showed him before/after images of my hair on my phone, he shrugged it off, once again saying that he deals with some clients who are almost completely bald, and I should be thankful I am not one of them - as if balding were a competition and I was losing because I am 36 and still have SOME hair left. After enduring another one or two similarly insensitive remarks, I just sat silent and tearful in the chair. As someone with chronic illness I experience callous comments like this stylist's often. Usually something along the lines of "Well you should be grateful, at least it's not cancer." I wish more people understood that this isn't a helpful thing to say. Struggling is struggling, whether it's cancer or not. Anyway, when I left the salon, I figured I'd just shrug it off. People are often insensitive when they don't mean to be. But it continued to bother me, so I reached out to the salon the following day. They did not respond. So I will not be going back. The trim was fine, but I'd like to be treated better. read more

I was in this week for an appointment with my usual (and fabulous) stylist, Erin. We tweaked my color a bit this visit and by the next morning, I knew that I didn't totally love it. I called the salon right away and Jyl answered the phone. She was incredibly gracious when I explained my issue and got me right back in with Erin the next day. In about 45 minutes, Erin worked her magic and I was in and out with my hair completely perfect! She actually thanked me for coming back in so that she could make my hair perfect and just how I wanted it! I searched all over the area north of Atlanta and finally found these folks-very pleased with their services. Worst experience. My stylist broke my hair off to my chin on one side from below my breast length. I received a straightening treatment and she had someone help her that didn't know what she was doing. I saw hair falling to the floor from breakage and by the time I got home I realized my hair was broken off to my chin. Was in a hurry and didn't take pride in her work. I started going to this place in 2006 right after I'd moved to the area, and I was so glad I found it. I've since moved, but miss this place, and my stylist Melissa! The staff was always friendly, and able to fit you in last minute. My stylist was always so knowledgeable and would always work with me to ensure the finished product was exactly what I said I wanted! I usually had highlights/lowlights and a cut done 3-4 times per year, for 4 years before I moved, and the only bad experience I had was with another stylist I had to see last minute (who has since left the salon). Samantha (Sam) has done my hair for years even before she was with Jyl Craven. I loved her and her cutting and color capability that I actually drive about an hour to Jyl Craven to get my hair done. I was so pleased the first time and still am to this day that the salon she works with, Jyl Craven is so great. Everyone is always SO nice. It is a contemporary cool salon and all I hear about is classes, training and more classes. They are extremely trained and professional. I recommend Jyl Craven (and Sam!
