My husband and I had planned to go to Houston's Taste of Texas for our anniversary(43 years), but we canceled our reservations. We were not up to fighting the Christmas traffic. We decided to go to K-2 here in town. I ordered the filet mignon(bacon wrapped) and my husband ordered the prime rib. They were delicious! They were both so tender and flavorful. The sides were also delicious. Our waiter, Antonio, was very knowledgeable of the menu, personable, and very attentive. Glad we decided to eat in town rather than Houston. I took my kids here for a birthday dinner back in November, i will say this although they were 30 min until closing they still served us and we didn't feel rushed at all!! The food was 8/10 but again it was close to Closing time before we came a few friends hyped it up way to much for what it really was but that's ok there isn't many steak houses around so i get it i would recommend this place because of the hospitality for sure read more

I have been wanting to try the K-2 Steakhouse since we visited Bay City a few years back. We finally made on our weekend down in Matagorda. It's only a 30 minute drive up from that little town on the Gulf Coast. Upon entering, your are in a very nice entry hall decorated by walls with the looks of cut wood! There is seating on both sides and the decor is of the old West! We were promptly greeted by a very friendly hostess and directed to a very nice dining area, apparently they have two or three of them! The thing I noticed on the way to the table was a very nice and well thought out Salad Bar!! After we were seated our waitress came to our table and introduced herself as our waitress. She took our drink orders and asked about any appetizers. I looked and ordered one of their versions of a blooming onion I think was called an Cactus Blossom. She returned shortly with our drinks and some really delicious bread rolls and butter! Those told were really delicious! I'm just a little while she brought our our appetizer and it didn't disappoint either!!! She then took our dinner orders. My wife ordered their 10 oz. Ribeye with two sides of fried Zucchini and Mac and cheese, or daughter also ordered the 10 oz. Ribeye with the loaded baked potato. You get a choice of a baked potato or two sides and a trip to the Salad Bar. I ordered the Ribeye also, but I wanted a thicker cut and it's only $3.00 an ounce, so I asked for a 16 oz. Cut! I don't mind paying extra for a good thick steak. I got the l of added baked potato and grilled Asparagus with the trip to the salad bar. Our son who's 9, ordered their cheeseburger and fries. We all ordered Ice tea or water for our drinks, except our 9 year old had a Coke with his burger. Finally it was time to check out the salad bar. All I can say is WOW!!! Their salad bar is Epic and they keep someone close making sure it stays clean and will stocked the entire time! It was just a beautiful layout with will chosen additions for any kind of salad you would want to build!!! It not only has the basics of Iceberg lettuce but Romaine, tomatoes, onions, black olives, grated cheese, zucchini, cucumbers, sliced black olives, bean sprouts, bacon bits croutons, and much more! There were ample choices of salad dressings also, Ranch, Bleu cheese, my favorite, 1000 Island, And a couple of other's. Our waitress came by the table often to check on us and our drinks. When our food came out, we were all very impressed!! Everything looked very impressive and the steaks were so cooked to perfection! We all ordered our steaks Medium Rare and they were all on target! We all agreed these were probably in the top of Ribeyes we've had at other will known Steakhouse's! They had a wonderful flavor, they were very tender, with very little veins of excess fat, mine didn't have any and it was really good!!! The inside has a really nice ambience to it, it's not very loud, it's very well taken care of, and the staff are so very helpful and friendly. It's just a really great restaurant with plenty of menu choices. In fact since we were going to be in Matagorda another couple of days, we came back the next evening we thought so much of it!!! Everyone ordered one of their Burgers except me as they have a few choices of burgers to choose from! I had the Chicken Fried Steak with fries and green beans. They said their burgers were all delicious as well! I took a bit of my wife's at her invitation and it was really good!!! It has the same great flavor the Ribeyes did from the night before! We went here for a birthday dinner as it was suggested to us to try. They have steaks and seafood. There were 2 separate sides to sit on. We sat by their salad bar. They offer a lunch special every day of the week and we were there in time for that. The lunch comes with an entree, 1 trip to the salad bar, a cup of soup and their rolls. Their rolls are so good, soft & buttery! Very delicious! Probably was the best thing I had. The salad bar was fresh, clean and I enjoyed my plate of it. The soup was a cheese soup and it was pretty good. My entree was the fried catfish and shrimp with 2 sides. I got the zucchini and mashed potatoes. It was also a strip of the fish and some decent sized shrimp. The meal was just okay for me. The place was clean and the service was good. My husband, myself, and our 10 year old daughter visited K-2 on a Tuesday night around 5:30pm or so. It was pretty busy when we got there. There were TVs on with sports playing and music too. It created a nice ambiance. We were sat right away, and Tiffany was our server. She was really nice! She took our drink order right away and brought our drinks out. Then she took our food order. My daughter got the beef sliders with fries off the kid's menu. I got the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini. My husband got the chicken fried steak with green beans and French fries. When our food came out, I let the guy know who brought out our food that I hadn't received my grilled zucchini. He said he would let them know. As I was eating I noticed a coarse bristle on my chicken after I ate about half of it. This made me not want to eat the rest. I let our server know and she said it was from the brush they use to coat the chicken. She said she would take it and show the kitchen. I let her know I was missing my grilled zucchini also. About 10 minutes later, our server came back and again I let her know I hadn't received my zucchini. She said she would personally bring it to me, but I told her it was fine. I was already done eating by that point. She said she would let the manager know about the bristle incident and the missing zucchini. She said the manager would come talk to us. I don't know if the manager was scared of confrontation or what, but she never came. Our server came back and asked if the manager had spoke with us yet and we said no, so she said she'd go talk to her. Our server came back with our bill and said they'd taken my chicken off and just charged for a small soup and salad. I thought this was kinda crappy considering they had forgot my side, and my chicken had a bristle on it. Not to mention I didn't have the soup, and I only had a small spoonful of potato salad, small spoonful of cottage cheese, and two peach slices since I'm really not supposed to have any of that. I will go back because they've been okay the previous two times we were there before. I ordered the filet mignon with fried zucchini and skillet potatoes. The filet mignon was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We tried the roast beef and it was terrible. It had no flavor and it almost tasted like it had been boiled in water. First time we were truly disappointed. We substituted a chopped steak and it was good but I wished the brown gravy tasted more homemade and not store bought. Today was my cheat on my diet day, I had the original fried shrimp, perfectly breaded with french fries and fried okra. Fries and okra were nice and crispy and the shrimp tender not tough. Service: great service although the food did take a very long time. More than normal that's for sure. The kept are drinks full and were very nice. Good: I got the fajitas and they were quite good. Very flavorful and you can tell these use quality beef. The sides were okay. I really liked the chuck wagon salad bar lol. You could literally get full off that. I am pretty sure I have seen K2 steakhouses all around small Texas towns. Finally got to try one out. The wings were really good as well. My colleagues liked the steak they ordered. Overall very solid spot. I would definitely give them another try. If You are in the area give them a shot. I should have taken pics of the food but I didn't. Go there every once and a while and love the salad bar and beans or soups! There special had all you can eat shrimp plus two sides or baked potato. No question I wanted the potato. Their potato bar with fixings is awesome! Ordered the shrimp and potato. Figured they'd give you a dozen shrimp, was I wrong, twenty shrimp plus a nice potato. Both times I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner which I found disappointing both times. It was tough to eat due to it being full of gristle both times. I almost choke several times. Lived in Bay City from 1987-1994 and K-2 was the go to place. I got into town last night and made a bee line there for supper. I had the NY strip, it was seasoned well, but slightly over cooked for med-rare. Service was excellent. My biggest disappointment was the phenomenal salad bar from back in the day was gone...probably a victim of Covid. When ordering I would ask for something and she would say we don't have that, that happened like 3 times instead of letting us know before hand. Then told us we could not put anything in our water. It was extremely overpriced and badly cooked and seasoned. I'd recommend buying a grill or getting a frozen microwave meal. The drinks here are similar to New York prices as well. I really don't understand how this place stays in business. We ordered out a month ago while down for a beach trip, and half of the order was wrong. There was only one person that understood the difference between horseradish and horseradish sauce. We gave it another try this weekend. I stood at the desk and watched a young man walk past me without acknowledging my presence for a solid 10 minutes until he stopped, stared at me for 30 seconds, then asked if I needed anything. We got rolls when we were done with supper. I had chicken tenders. They were alright, typical Sysco tenders. My husband had a steak and shrimp special the steak was as thin as three paper plates. It was ever on an old fajita hot plate. The ranch for my salad was spoiled because it hadn't been refrigerated.
