It's a local favorite I heard... They have a hot plate style lunch bar daily. But other than that it was standard cafe/snack bar food. Most everything was fried, so I had a hard time finding something to order. You order at the counter and then they bring your food, that was nice. I opted for the nachos...they were good old school fare. I got the fajita chicken in mine-it was grilled, so I mostly ate that. I did try the peach cobbler-to die for! Staff...biggest downfall for me. They really didn't have time for me. They needed to finish their conversations first before they could take my order and they definitely weren't cordial by any means. Not one thank you or explanatory phrase. I thought the name came from the local mascot....but ....? Whenever I go to Sweeny to visit my husband while he works at the refinery we stop here and they have some of the fluffiest fried fish I have ever tasted. Their fried shrimp us nothing short of amazing as well. This place is a great place to visit when in the West Columbia/Sweeny area! read more

My husband and I took our friends here this past weekend and we're amazed with the food! Three of us had the chicken fried steak, and we all enjoyed it. Our friends wife had chicken strips and said they were very good. You order at the counter and they will bring it out to you, shortly. So coming into this food I was not sure what to expect. I had a business trip in Sweeny and a co-worker there asked for my order ahead of time so they could pick it up and bring it to the office. I am hesitant with "bar and grill" places most of the time because they are either great or not great. I ordered a chicken taco salad, and it was really tasty. I was happy that there was romaine lettuce and good guac and salsa. Most times I feel these salads are soggy iceberg with pace salsa on the side. I have been to the Bulldog Cafe several times for lunch and the burgers are great. Service always seemed okay. My family and I went for dinner tonight and again, the food was good. Much better than most places that seem to think that putting out a plate of something is okay. But, service was atrocious. We ordered our food at the counter as usual, but it took over an hour to get the food. Not sure what the deal is, but it doesn't take long to cook a Chicken Fried Steak or Steak Fingers. read more

I got turned on to this place by a coworker. It's a fairly new place, it's very clean and has a rustic look to it. The indoor decor looks good and fits the atmosphere, for a small town cafe. I've tried there chicken fried steak fingers, they were very good. The breading made them. I just ate there bulldog burger, it was good, the jalapeño bun made the burger. I only wish I had added cheese to it. The tator tots are good also, very crispy. If you come here don't expect fast food times, they take there time cooking the food here, which I don't mind waiting for. There's two flat screens to watch while you wait. I will be returning soon. It's a cafe, what more can I say. The food is good for a small town cafe, but the owner/manager is rude. When it's 100° outside and a customer complains about the temperature inside being hot, the customary thing to do is turn the air down. Instead she scowled at us the whole time for even asking. This is only one instance where we've received poor customer service from here. There have been many occasions. So, if you don't mind waiting a good 45 min or longer for steak fingers and you don't mind rude staff, then try it out. The food is good. read more

Food is delicious. It is filling and comforting. Anything on the menu. However service needs help. A few of them either don't listen don't understand or both. I have had serial messed up orders that took forever to fix but the food is so perfect. The full on flavor makes it almost worth the problems that sometimes occur. They remember their regulars and the favorites. This is rare in fast food but a gem when you are on your lunch break. They are very accommodating and take pride in their products. The food is average here, typical American classics like chicken fried steak & king ranch chicken. Has a hot plate service during the week from 11 to 130. Prices are high. I have never had an issue with the food itself. My husband and I do have issue with the service. There are one or 2 ladies in there that are consistently rude, every singe time! To the point where I want to say something but my husband says no. Small town extremely limited choices on dining so to "just deal" with it attitude comes into play. But we just can't stand it anymore, so we choose not to dine there anymore. If you can turn the cheek on the rude service then check this place out. read more

We stopped on a whim for lunch. I got catfish and my friend had a burger. It was really good. The catfish was seasoned and fried perfectly, the French fries were excellent and my friend finished every bite of his burger. It's a nice small town friendly place. Worth the trip. read more

Good food but unbelievably slow. Don't believe me? Try em. Plus if they don't feel like cooking they will take their phone off the hook so that you can't place an order.
