This is a very casual waterfront themed restaurant in Matagorda. It appears to be popular with both tourists and locals. There's both indoor and outdoor eating and it seems quite lively. The wait staff checked on the table frequently and inquired about the food. The fried rice was a standout as well as the coleslaw. Both appeared to be made with a special recipe because they were both out of the ordinary and and subtle without being overly spicy yet still flavorful. The snapper can be ordered either fried or blackened or battered. The blackened was good, but the other methods were not tried. Our family of 3 stopped in here for lunch, and the place was empty. Maybe 1-2 tables with customers, other than that, nobody else at all. I have a 10lb service dog, which she was with me (she detects my seizures), and when we walked in, we were immediately told that dogs weren't allowed in the restaurant. We informs the staff that she was a service dog, and they still declined. Now, I know the laws, and really did not want to get into it, but thankfully the young male waiter who was working said "you know what, I got you guys. Do you mid sitting on the patio?" We had absolutely zero issue at all sitting on the patio. Although, we shouldn't have even had to do that. BUT, the fact that he allowed us to sit and eat with my service dog was appreciated. He was very polite, kind, and professional the entire time. We had zero issues, and my service dog was perfectly fine and well mannered as she should be. We did leave our waiter a fairly generous tip for being kind, and working with us, even tho there shouldn't have been an issue to begin with. The food was okay. Nothing spectacular. But for the town, there's not many options to choose from. Will we stop in again? Not quite sure. I guess it depends on if their staff has been informed and educated on service animals and the laws that's come with. read more

The food is decent. Chicken fried chicken was moist. Mashed potatoes and green beans were tasty but lukewarm. Staff was attentive and kept checking on us which was a plus. The negative is the host and server should let you know before seating you and when ordering that the kitchen wait time was over an hour which was shocking since the restaurant wasn't full. read more

I will be fair and say it was a busy Saturday night! We waited over a hour and did not receive any of the 3 dishes ordered We asked about 3 times for them to check with the kitchen, when they walked out and didn't follow up with us, we closed out our card from the drinks we ordered and left. I finally feel like I'm on vacation when I have fried shrimp and this was a wonderful place to have it! After two days of cheese and crackers and a few nuts I scarfed down the boudin balls (MUST HAVE they were soooo delicious), fried shrimp which was very fresh and absolutely perfect, potato salad (yum) and hush puppies (really good). My dog was welcomed on the patio with a huge bowl of water with fancy ice cubes and he made so many friends that he's going to insist we go back tomorrow. Our waitress Angela was lovely and thoughtful in all of the ways, in addition to the ice water for Mochi she brought me a huge to-go cup of water as if she could intuit that perhaps I hadn't had enough water in the past few days. We also chatted about Matagorda and Bay City attractions and all in all the experience was so good I'm definitely in agreement with my dog that we have to go back. I'm not one to frequently write reviews, but after my visit to snappers, this felt necessary. I have never been to a worse restaurant. The food took at least 45 minutes to come out. From the kitchen, I received a bland and rubbery Blackened Snapper. The sweet potato fries were equally as horrible. I would argue for the chef to be removed from the line, but with the age-long wait that doesn't seem possible. 0/10 read more

We stopped for a quick lunch. The shrimp basket was fantastic with local shrimp and the fried pickles were excellent. We had two margaritas, which were also good plus a CORONA beer would recommend this place. Good place to stop and have a quick drink and a meal. In the summer, it may be hot but right now the weather is fantastic just the right temperature. Small roadside seafood joint that was perfect after a hot night camping on Matagorda Island. We sat next to a huge fan to cool us off from the hot August day drinking a Twisted Tea and Snapper sandwich blackened. Phoenix. A fire in April, leveled the place. And a food truck and sun coverings w picnic benches and tables with umbrellas emerged. Recommended by the Welcome Center and cautioned it was pricey. It was! We visited after a rain shower and the Gulf brought with the rain puddles. The location is just before or just after the bridge depending on your journey. Good outdoor crowd. Lots of spaced outdoor seating with sun shelters with and without a table. All you need to know: Yes, under a sun shelter near the food truck is where you place your drink and food order. In take can be on the slow aide, but the food comes up QUICK. Ok, it's pricy. But the best thing on the menu is the coconut fried shrimp with a pineapple dipping sauce. Yes! I would only eat this next time. It was that good and it came with two side dishes. Never mind the puddles and lack of a turn key operation. Imagine a food truck that married a park. It's a mish mosh! There are random jungle gyms and things to climb on near seating. Maybe the climbing equipment are pre-fire. No clue. No bathroom except port a potties. There is an outdoor sink. The menu has a hilarious cautionary statement. I'll let you discover it. Skip the po-boy. Our Houston taste buds, spoiled us as the pi-boys were a disappointment and resounding, no. Found this road side outdoor bar while galavanting around Houston area. While the down home picnic tables and establishment were ok, the service was excellent. Our bartender was so sweet and friendly. She made the best spicy margarita and showed us the "ghost pepper" tequila that she used to perfect the drink. Steak fingers are the best I've had anywhere What should be a local dive beer bar is really a gem for simple home style Texas dishes. We like our queso with taco meat and love the homestyle chips for dipping. Unpretentious hot meal and cold beer. Best prices on the island. Everything else is sadly overrated places to be seen. We visit Matagorta annually and always eat at least one meal at Snappers Bar and Grill. Tonight we had a party of five and were seated and waited on promptly- great for a Friday night! We ordered the sampler appetizer platter that included fried mushrooms, fried cheese sticks, onion rings and fried stuffed jalapeños. They were served quickly and piping hot. A delicious way to start a meal. Our party ordered a chicken strip basket, a steak finger basket, a chicken dinner, a double meat burger and a chicken fried steak dinner. Oh my gosh each dish was bountiful with food. The burger was so large my hubby couldn't finish it. That's a first folks. I also want to note that the gravy was outstanding! Probably not that big of a deal unless you are gravy picky like me. Snappers is a dive in the best sense of the word. Barn wood walls, fans, funny signs on the walls, all create a terrific atmosphere, at least for our bunch. Give this place a try if you prefer comfort over designer, good Texas regular and seafood over gourmet dishes and cold beer over fancy drinks. Can't go wrong at Snappers. read more

Came for a seafood lunch. Asked if the fish is local fresh caught, I mean we are in Matagorda, and was told it was. Asked what kind of fish was in the fish basket, the answer.... tilapia! DESPICABLE. Traveled from Vegas to visit family. My brother worked all day so supper time wasn't until 7:30pm. Sat down, served drinks after about 5 minutes. Order taken 20 minutes later. Food never arrived - let me repeat...FOOD NEVER ARRIVED. We were there for AN HOUR and when we asked the waitress that served the table next to ya, where our food was, here response was 'I'm so sorry'. WHAT? I had oysters on the half shell as appetizer. Wonderfully fresh and delicious. For a main, I had the seafood platter with fried fish, coconut fried shrimp, fried oysters, and hush puppies!
