Love Kasia, Love Grace, and love the alterations they did on my wedding dress! Grace reminds me a bit of my Hungarian grandmother - no nonsense, straight to the point, gets the job done. If you're looking for some princess-y experience, this is not your place. My dress needed a lot of alterations (the whole thing had to be taken in as I dropped some weight between purchasing my dress and picking it up), and Grace handled them with ease. It was ready in 3 appointments, and really only two of them were fittings - the third was just a quick try-on to make sure everything looked ok. It was easy to make appointments (Wednesdays at 7), the price was right ($250 to take in the waist, bust, and hips, and sew cups in), and it was super easy to park right outside. Awesome! read more

Unlike the past reviewer, I had a great experience with Grace altering my dress. She knew exactly where it had to be taken in, what had to be done, and what would make ME look great on my wedding day! Generally, you should go in for alterations 3 times: once to try it on and figure out where it needs to be taken in, etc, second time to try on, make sure all is good, and then do the length, and third, try it on, and take it home! unfortunately, the third time, the height was still long, and i had to leave it there to be shortened more, and return for a fourth time. I COMPLETELY appreciated this extra time Grace took to make it more perfect! She could have easily shoved it off and disagreed that it needed more length cut off, but no. she was honest about it, believed it to be too long, and recommended she do more work on it (and no, of course they did not charge me more for this!) Overall, I really felt Grace knew exactly what she was talking about, and I completed trusted her judgement in how the dress should be fitting on me. I would love to go back to her for any other types of alterations I may have in the future! read more

I found the seamstress to be a bit rough around the edges and cocky. I was quoted a wedding dress alterations in the spring which I was expecting $100 since it was super minor, the cost came out to be nearly 4 times that. I got other quotes for 1/4 and 1/2 the price. Buyer beware. read more

I found Grace, the seamstress to be disrespectful, both in the manner of which she spoke to me, and in the manner of which she physically handled my body while making alterations. The alterations site lacked privacy, and my appointments were not taken on time. Worse, I felt she did not listen to me (and her work showed it). I would not recommend this venue. read more

I stumbled across this diamond in the rough as I randomly called dressmakers in an effort to "fix" my Chinese dress catastrophe....and fix it they did. My dress was a nightmare-over half a foot too short, and I was unable to zip it, close it, or get it to fit over my ample assets. The owners of the shop took the time to meet with me (without an appt on a busy Saturday), and were able to turn my ebay disaster into a comfortable, attractive dress for a destination wedding...in less than two weeks time. Talk about miracleworkers! The dressmaker and her daughter were very knowledgeable and fun to work with. I felt very comfortable with the team, who went above and beyond to make sure my friend's wedding didn't get a XXX rating. My dress needed to be re-built (not altered) in a limited timeframe with the original materials, and they made it happen...for which I will be forever grateful. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!! After a postive experience her with a bridesmaid dress alteration, I called to ask if Grace does other alterations like hemming pants or repairing jackets - they do! I trekked over with a pair of pants and they did wonderfully! And super inexpensive. Thank you Grace, once again, you've truly made a happy customer out of me. read more

This place was very unorganized and had horrible customer service. I tried on the dress that I needed for the wedding as a bridesmaid, the owner took the order and wrote the wrong style number down. When I went to pick up the dress not only was it the wrong dress but it was also the wrong size. The owner told me that it was my fault for signing the receipt and she couldn't do anything to help me. Her mother who I assume is her assistant began to scream and yell at me. Very poor customer service. I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone- very unprofessional and raggedy! read more

This place was recommended by a family friend, who purchases many dresses from the place, and thought their referral would allow me to get a very reasonable price. Well, that was not the case. I have a very simple, straight, unadorned wedding dress, with a very slight amount of tool wedding under the skirt. From my untrained eye, it seemed the only necessary alterations were a minimal hemming and taking in the straps at the shoulders (each shoulder has two thin straps). I had done internet research, and figured at the most, it should cost $150. When I tried the dress on, she was going to take off about 1 inch at the hem, take in the shoulder straps (an alteration which my mother had said she could do herself), and then she thought it would smooth out the area under my armpits if she took in the seams that lead to the nipple very slightly. It seemed pretty straightforward and modest to me, so I was SHOCKED when she told me it would cost $300! I told her I thought that was too high, so she told me to take it somewhere else. So I took it to Alex Cleaners in Logan Square, which I had defaulted to for dry cleaning in the past, simply because it was so close to my condo. Their estimate for the hemming and the shoulder straps was...$55!!!! Quite a disparity! The tailor pointed out that the first button loophole also needed repair, so she agreed to repair that. With steaming the dress and veil, my grand total came to $80. Simply ridiculous! I felt very scammed by the tailor at K&K Dressmaking, and can't understand the logic of the $300 bill. When i said $300 was way too much, she made some comment about having to do hand stitches - OK, and that is unusual? Maybe other people have had better experiences, and maybe it would have helped if I spoke Polish. But I would recommend getting a second opinion if you go here, and the price sounds high. read more

Grace fixed a China disaster of a dress and much more! I had only one week until my wedding and she made sure I had my dress a few days before. My dress from China was supposed to be maternity (since I am 6 months pregnant) but it was an A-line dress with no stretch in the fabric. She had to take up the hem from the bust line about 6 inches. This means she had to completely restructure my dress by cutting it in half at the empire waist and hiking it up. If that wasn't enough work, she had to sew the sides and the back as they bowed out from the excess fabric. Then she noticed my bust was too tight and she opened it up, this also included sewing the beading back into the sides and she made it look like nothing had been done to the sides. She fixed the little details like the bows that were cockeyed and the threads out of place. Also, I needed a slip to make sure the dress looked right and she opened up the slip on one side and added fabric so nothing was tight on my pregnant belly. All the ladies in the shop were wonderful and I cannot wait to take my baby girl there next year for her christening dress. Yes, the price was $350 but it was well worth it. The designer dress cost $999, I ordered it for $110 from China and paid $350 for alterations, I saved over $500. Barry the tailor at the dry cleaners cannot do what Grace did. A dressmaking shop is the only place you should have your dress altered at. They will notice things you don't but on your wedding day wish you had. If you work with K & K Dressmaking and you're nice they will move mountains to make sure you're happy and your dress is perfect. read more

i brought a wedding dress from a very popular wedding store and found out that i needed alterations done i didnt know that they did not do their own alterations but they referred me to k & k dressmaking and told me to ask for cathy.well i called her and she told me to come and they will see what they can do. with less than month before the wedding grace took me in the fitting room told me everything that needed to be done to my dress. there was no hidden fees,no hidden conversations behind my back just right there in my face. grace is a very sweet lady i enjoyed her.i understood her,and cathy,she was on the job! just wonderful! i'm a hard person to please and for my very last fitting grace perfected my dress with no flaws. she made tears of joy come to my eyes.i truly am a happy bride. she did everything she said. my fiancee was also there (outside of course)but when i was done he came in and said "thank you for making her smile" we all laughed. grace was very modest but she knew she perfected that dress of mines.i just want to say to cathy and grace keep doing what your doing you guys are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and once again i will let the world know i am the happiest bride ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
