Once home I looked at them and one jacket had black pen-like marks all over the sleeve. As winter finally became a thing (not complaining about the late start) my wife discovered that the zipper on her heavy coat was broken. I found that Olya's was just down the street from me so I decided to try it. When I got there she told me that it would take a week to do the coat. I asked if it could be done sooner since it was going to be cold and that's the heaviest coat my wife has. She then let me bring the coat back on the next Monday to be done that day while using it throughout the week until then to minimize the time without it. When I brought the coat back she had already bought two possible zippers for me to choose from and one matched the color perfectly. I came back after it was ready and the work was fantastic. No trace of the old zipper and the new one looked like it came with the coat brand new. This was $55 for a 30" zipper replacement. Highly recommended! DON'T BRING HER ANYTHING YOU TRULY VALUE! We brought a family quilt in for Olya to put a new border on. The quilt is a little less than 40 years old and was made for me by my grandmother. The quilt had some rips on the edges and the border fabric was generally fraying, but the whole center of the quilt was in great shape. Well, we brought it home after she "fixed it" with new fabric we bought for her and laid it out on the floor and she totally screwed it up. Not only are all her seams not straight (which I might believe was somewhat necessary based on the age of the quilt), but the whole thing is no longer a rectangle!! It used to lay perfectly flat on the ground, but now the sides aren't straight anymore and pinch inward at the ends causing the fabric in the center to bunch up. Who ever heard of a blanket that won't lay flat?! I brought it back to address this and she was not helpful at all. She kept saying, "It's old and it was hard to do" and pointing to the corners (which are not my complaint). She completely ignored when I REPEATEDLY pointed out how the whole thing is no longer a rectangle and wouldn't lay flat anymore. Instead, she ironed the edges for a minute as though I was complaining about wrinkles rather than a change to the entire shape of the quilt. She then tried to claim the quilt had always been that way. I offered to show her photos of the quilt from right before I dropped it off to prove that wasn't the case, but she, of course, had no interest and just said she'd couldn't do anything. I then asked for a refund and, despite the fact that she is the owner, said she couldn't give me one because she has "no policy about that". Aren't you the owner?? What does that mean? You do a bad job and you don't stand behind your work? She then just said that it was "hard" and that she should never have agreed to do it. And I said that I'm sure it was hard, but if she couldn't do it right, she shouldn't have done if instead of just hacking away blindly at somebody's family heirloom!! Short story: I'm sure she's good at a lot of things based on the other reviews here, but god forbid she screw something up because she clearly does not care at all. I run a business and, if we can't do something right, we tell people before we do it. And, if we do make a mistake, we fix it or make it right financially. Olya clearly doesn't feel the same way. read more

i take everything to Olya. this place is right down the street from where i live, and she done very good work for me on anything i've taken there so far: sewed a patch onto a white hospital coat, sewed leather elbow patches onto a thick sweater, repaired a pocket hem on my trenchcoat (which involved taking the coat lining out and resewing it). i haven't had the opportunity yet, but i'll definitely take her any dress alterations or hemming or anything i need fixed up in the future! while she's specifically a tailor, she also has dry cleaning/pressing services available, but there are also 2 dry cleaners next door and a couple others very closeby in Forest Park. read more

Olya did a quality patch job on some clothes I dropped off. The holes were big and ugly, but she made sure they wouldn't reopen again. I agree with other reviewers in that she is professional and gives her opinion to help customers make proper alterations choices. I still have my all-time favorite other alterations person downtown, but when I'm in this area, this is where I go. One thing to beware of: I had an experience where she closed 15 minutes early so I wasn't able to get my clothes and had to return the following day. I would suggest calling ahead if you're going to cut it close to closing time. read more

Zeros stars for lack of communication and empathy for her mistake. The seamstress made a major change to my skirt without communicating the change. She was unapologetic and lacked basic customer service skills. If the change would have been communicated it would have given me options. Pay the additional expense, go with the recommended change or no alterations at all. My options were taken from me. The beginning experience was good, but the end resulted in bad customer service and a ill fitting skirt. read more

I have been using tailors for 30 years, all over Chicago and northern California, and Olya - by far - is the best tailor I have ever worked with!! She is a perfectionist, artistic, offers spot-on advice, and always has it done on time. She has saved me hundreds of dollars by altering out-of-date dresses and turning them into modern pieces that I can still wear for years. She has altered or fixed my clothes, as well as my husband's suits -- all perfectly done, for a very fair price. If I ask her to do something that is not possible to do (e.g., cut a type of fabric that shouldn't be cut or it will fray), she explains it to me and would rather lose the money than do something that comes out less than perfect. But she always ends with, But if that's what you want, I will do it; you're the boss. I've persuaded her to cut or alter stretchy t-shirts that she explained were not suitable for alteration, but I wear them as pajama tops so that was fine with me. She is always honest and will let you know what is possible. The problem with some of the negative reviews here, if you read between the lines, is that it seems a first-time customer insisted that she take a risky job, or asked that something be done a certain way, and now is crying foul. If that is the case, then that's like shooting the messenger. She has been my tailor for over 5 years and has done a ton of work for me - all beautiful, all done to perfection. You won't find a better tailor anywhere (I've looked for 30 years), and I hope that she never retires! read more

Once again fabulous job by Olya. She most recently altered my daughter's prom dress which was no small feat due to the layers and how short my daughter is...basically to shorten it due to hemline of the dress she could not due it from the bottom. She had to take apart the dress and put it back together to shorten it. I don't even know how to sew a button. So I will definitely be using Olya whenever I need alterations. Pathetic is what I say. She wouldn't even let my daughter put her dress on to EVEN SEE what her perception of the work needed for my daughter's one and only prom. Go to Anthony's in Elmhurst. We walked in, and immediately my daughter was in a dressing room PUTTING ON HER PROM DRESS so the tailor could ACTUALLY SEE IT ON HER! $15.00 later, and you have a happy 17-year-old.
