He doused the kare kare to enhanced the flavor with shrimp paste cause it was bland.. for me he ordered the longanisa and the skewer for me.. let me start to say the only real meat I had was the longanisa, which I got 3! As for the skewer I only got 1! On top of that half is meat and half fat!! So technically you only get half of a skewer with meat! So disappointing! Mira Mesa has way better Filipino food. We looked at everything that was available and of course chose talapia as the main with vinegar. I had care care (sp?) It's a pork with a peanut butter sauce. Half pandit and half rice. It was good. They loved the texture, flavor, and freshness. They also enjoyed the mango nectar juice pouches from the cooler. The little red pork sausages were ok. Next time I want to try some of their other dishes. I may also pick up some of their dry lentils, packaged desserts, and imported beverages. My neighbor also got some homemade sweet rice wrapped in some kind of green leaf. Looked very exotic. Was recommend this spot from a coworker who always brought in mounds of delicious lumpia! I happen to be in the area getting my car serviced and decided to stop on by! It's a small place, very "Mom and Pop", full of fun things to try. My favorite Filipino dish is pancit and they just happened to bring out a fresh batch! Soooooo good! I think this may be the only Filipino place in Esco. I'm so glad I found them. I ordered a tray of palabok half order SAME DAY! They were able to fulfill my order when other viet restaurants would not. When I arrived I was amazed at the sisig, diniguan and Filipino spaghetti they had out. Came here on a Saturday morning. Restaurant is located in a strip mall so there's a lot of parking. Although they open early, I would suggest to get here after 10:30am so there's more selections. Food: 2 Item Combo Pork Sinigang Chicharon Pancit Tocino and longanisa with rice BBQ stick The chicharon was the highlight for me. The pork sinigang tasted good but the meat was hmmm tough and maybe previously frozen hard, cooked, then chilled again. But, again the soup was delicious. The tocino was also delicious however the longanisa to me is a hot dog. I had ask again what that meat was and they said longanisa. Had to also ask what dialect or where in the Philippines is the style of cooking is from and one of the workers said Ilocano. So, I'm Ilocano and the Ilocano longenisa I know is with vinegar flavor and not like a hot dog. Oh well. The suman was equally as good too. Service was great and there's a little market for some Asian items. I will definitely return to try the other dishes. read more

I met up with my cousin for lunch. She's full Filipina and notes it is better than other places she has gone. She was right! I had the two entree plate with half steamed rice, and half Singapore style (thin rice noodle) noodles--I chose Tilapia (full fish) upcharge only a dollar--and the soup with chicken and upo plus egg. This food brought me back to my grandma's kitchen--eating with my hands, removing the tinick and talking with my cousin. Oh, I couldn't resist getting a small cup of the dessert soup, ginataang. Just like a cafeteria, you move through the line and select the items you'd like to enjoy. Try the fried fish! This place is kind of hidden, something that always excites and makes me scared lol. Got a mixed bag this time. The pancit / noodles have definitely seen better days, soggy and nothing to be compared to homemade pancit. However, still tasted ok. The chicken here was incredible. It was drenched in it's own juices and I'd be lying if I hadn't tasted chicken that juicy anywhere in Escondido, at least for the longest time. Don't say you're open at 9 am and only have dry garlic rice and dry chicken adobo and 3 other items. And nothing else until after 11 am for the food bar to finally be ready. This was my first time going and it will be my last. I will drive the extra 30 mins to San Marcos to seafood city and get food from them at least when they open they have all their items ready to serve and sell. If I could give 1/2 a star I would but I guess you're lucky to get one star. read more

Found this place on a whim because I was in the area. The lady behind the counter was kind and patient with us since we were so indecisive due to a good selection of tasty food to choose from . We ordered two - 2 item combos Combo #1 Dinuguan - deep flavor with the right amount of vinegar Binagoongan baboy - deep savory bagoong taste infused in the tender meat. Not overly salty Combo #2 Pork machado - perfectly seasoned and the meat was juicy without being overly fatty. Sisisg - crispy pork sautéed with jalapeños and onions. But I have to say the onion to pork ratio is off, too much onion. Sides: Ukoy - good size (5" diameter) packed with a lot of flavor. I ended up skipping the vinegar dip, I felt it was better without it. Lechon - you can never go wrong with fried pork. Overall, very pleased with the food and the service. It was my first time here and everything was delicious. We don't have much of this to go mom/pop Filipino food to go place in Escondido. I was very impressed with the big selection of food. The portion sizes was huge! They pile up on your orders of food and the price is decent as well. I got their pork sisig 10/10 Cripsy pork and lots of onions which I love. Next is the pork menudo 7/10, it was good just a little oily. Lastly their chicken and pork skewers were delicious 10/10, juicy and tender perfectly grilled. Filipino food in Escondido This syle of food is still unique in San Diego & doesn't have that many locations. This location does a good job of representing traditional Filipino food. I absolutely chicken Adobo. The chicken has been stewed in a sauce that is extremely flavorful & the chicken literally falls off the bone. Pan set is Filipino style noodles and its good here! Lumpia & fried bananas are both 5 for $2 and I love them. The place itself has a bit of a all you can eat chinese vibe that also has a tiny Asian store inside. There is only a few places in San Diego that serve this type of food so when I'm in the area I'll be back. Had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. We came in at 4:23 pm and the first thing the lady told me was that they close at 5 so we need to hurry and pick our food(which is already cooked and ready to order like Panda Express). Not a problem it took us 2 min to look at the food and choose. I am not Filipino so I have no idea what some of food items are so when I asked they told me the Filipino name of the dish but no explanation on what it contains. I ended up ordering 2 pork dishes because I didn't know what meats were in them, they did not explain. I wanted to get more of a variety... When we checked out the lady ubrubtly took our payment and then walked away leaving our food about 3 feet behind the plastic curtain that they have up at the register. I have average length arms but I had to disgustingly push myself up against this grungy screen that was cloudy from who knows what to reach our bag of food. Would've been nice to at least slide it closer to us or hand us our bag... The whole experience was rushed because the store owners wanted to go home. read more

I was so excited to find out we had a filipino restaurant here in Escondido so I went today to try it out. Very disappointed overall. I went about 1:00 and they had very few choices to order. I got the chicken adobo and chicken kare. The adobo was very dry and tough and the kare very vinegary. I understand that vinegar is in the recipe but this was a little overbearing. I got some vegetable lumpia and it was mushy and greasy. They didn't have any of the food I was hoping for. They had no chicken skewers and no bibingka or cassava. I ask when they usually have these items and she couldn't tell me. Not very friendly when I ask questions I guess I'll have to drive to Mira Mesa. So sad, I was hopeful based on previous reviews. read more

There are plenty of food options for dining as well as a little grocery store inside for other items such as pandesal bread, etc. I come here frequently for the sisig and turon! The SISIG here is top notch and pretty tasty. It has a nice crisp and is tangy with a little spice. Pure goodness!! The TURON is always really great and a hit at parties! It has the perfect blend of sweetness from banana inside and the sweet glaze from outside the turon, and it always has the crunch factor.. YUMYUM. Each bite is addicting :) read more

We got hungry for a Filipino Fiesta (feast) but I didn't feel like cooking all the different dishes that I want just for the three of us; Kare-kare, fresh Lumpia, dinuguan with puto, sisig, pancit, bibingka, ginataang bilo-bilo and of course garlic fried rice. So off I went three cities east of us (11 miles) to get the food we're craving. It's like a Pinoy buffet but with left-overs. Fred is so happy with KK Orient Valley Food Center in Escondido, CA. He's kinda picky with Filipino food, it has to taste authentic not Americanized, nothing bland, and of course fresh. Bonus is the pricing. Very reasonably priced. I pre-ordered a half tray of Kare-kare and requested no tripe. They accommodated my request and no extra charge for the customization. This is a point-point joint but you can pre-order trays of food if you want. During this Rona season, no eat in allowed, keep your social distancing, wear mask, and be considerate. So totally worth the drive for this home style cooked Filipino food. I would definitely recommend this place for your Filipino food craving without breaking the bank. read more

They're the same owner as Manila Fast Food in Mira Mesa, so I am pretty stoked that they're in Escondido! I recently ordered for a party: They have the best crispy pata! They take orders for full on lechon if you order in advance. The turon is my favorite! Not too long, big, bulky (yes, the turon!), not too sweet and it's crispy! The cassava cake is also on point! Consistency is just right and not too sweet. It does have bits of coconut meat in it. The lumpia was fresh and delicious. They were not stingy with their sauce and for each items ordered. Our food was well packaged. The pancit was not my favorite but still taste really good. It was not oily. I ordered the mix; pork and shrimp. I would have preferred a little more meat in it. They did pack lemon slices (some places give you fake lemon juice packets to go. Screw that!). You can also dine in or pick and choose combo plates to go! A little advise: Filipinos do not understand vegetarian or vegan dishes for side! Save yourself the frustration and don't bother! LOL. Overall, pretty satisfied with their service and food. The parents frequent is place for their party trays. This is the 1st time having this food from the restaurant itself for me. They have a little Filipino market with Filipino goods on the side and all their hot food on a hot tray line in the front. I ordered 2, 2 item combos so I could try a couple different dishes. Of course I had to order the chocolate meat for the kids for those of you who don't know this dish is a pork blood and vinegar based dish called dinuguan. Traditionally it is made with offal but I personally enjoy it more with pork meat and my kids love it, it is a geat dish over rice but give it a try with a fermented sweet rice dough called puto. It tasted great here at K&K. I also had the bikol express which I have had a couple variations but here it was with shrimp and greens, the chiles and coconut milk give it a great flavor but a bit too salty for my taste. I also ordered the pork skewers, it had a garlicy sweet marinade and the char on the meat is so good. What it does for me is a dish called Dinakdakan, its a peppery and creamy pig ear dish that will blow your mind. Great traditional filipino food! read more

Ive seen this place for awhile but never called my attention. Mostly because it doesnt even look like a restaurant from the outside. And "K & K Orient Valley" doesnt help much to identify it much as a restaurant. Ididnt know what to expect and I didnt have high hopes for this joint. It was a warm daywhen I came in and as soon as I walked in I felt the mugginess immediately, apparently they have no air conditioning here. Which really ruins it for dining in. I feel bad for the employees. Im sure they have a/c but they probably try and keep everything as cheap as possible. That kind of scares me. I picture diluted hand soaps and cheap 99cent cleaning agents. I walk up to the food bar and there is 4 employees behind the counter. 2 are eating! (Food safety in San Diego doea not allow that) and the other 2 are just talking away. Finally I asked a lady that was eating if she can help and she said "oh you want to order?" ............. So I ordered the 2 entrée for about $7. It comes with pancit (noodles) or rice. I ordered Pancit with Pata in a dark sauce (no clue what the actual name was, I couldnt understand her) and I got the chicken adobo. The pancit was good but I would much rather have chow mein lol. Turns out im not a big fan of Pancit. The pata had a mix of tender meat, fat, and tough meat. It was ok with me but the sauce it was given in had a wierd consistency, what made it worse was that the actual Pata was cut into tiny pieces so it made it feel even nastier when you put it in your mouth. The lumpia is good but they always serve this cold! It makes it chewy. Its cheap tho, $2 for 5 pieces. If you buy it I recommend throwing it in the microwave for a few seconds. The sweet and sour sauce they give for the lumpia is just wierd its almost gelatin like. Maybe they throw some pork fat on it and if they do they should serve it warm. Not a fan thought. I do recommend you try the chicken adobo and the chicken in coconut sauce. The coconut sauce is really tasty. Its almost as if everything had it down side here tho. I hate hate hate hate the fact that they cut the chicken in so many little pieces, bone and all. Why not just use boneless chicken thigh? Imagine having to go through every bite to get all the bones out of your mouth. Yeah it really sucks! A single thigh seems to get cut up to 4 times. Its ridiculous to do that if you ask me. Hope no one ever chokes. I noticed something really really wierd when paying for my food. At the counter they have what seems like pancit with shrimp. Shrimp! Just sitting there on the counter at room temperature for hours! And they also have mackerel just sitting there. That is sooo not cool. Someone can get really sick from that.
