I shop at K & Y (worst name ever!) all the time. I just call it the fruit and vegetable market. This place is no frills but has a really great selection, fresh produce and great prices! I only go across the street to Union market when I can't find what I need here. Staff is quick, efficient and pleasant. So happy to have this place in the neighborhood. read more

These reviews are all true. Huge selection, wonderful people, as good as it gets. I toyed with the idea of giving them 1 star so that my review would be flagged so I could say wonderful things about them, but I can't do that. The owners are great. And I mean on a very human level. You're running late? Yes, they'll stay open for you. You are looking panicked to find parking for your bike to run inside? Somebody will watch it for you. You're short a dollar? They know you? You're OK. Try their kimchi. I don't know how they've got it this good. You can cop a real buzz off their stuff. Insanely good. One day I told the owner, "I was just over at Union Market. I saw 3 people cross the street in front of me coming from there to come here." Two people in line behind me immediately spoke up that they had done that. read more

K&Y is purely a produce store, the selection is obviously better than any regular super market and the prices are good too. Nothing unbelievably good in terms of the prices but nothing over priced either. I still like Atlantic Vegetable & Food a little better for a local produce store but K&Y is a little closer to home and definitely worth stopping by on my walk home. read more

I frequent this store because they have produce at a decent price for the neighborhood although lately prices seem to be rising and the line seems to be getting longer, but that's probably because it is one of the few no frills spot like it around. They are keeping it simple, have what you need, only two aisles so it is easy to navigate. Most items are organized logically so you never have to waste time asking someone where something is. I never have had to. A strength is their self serve nut, seed and dried fruit section. Just throw it in the bag with a scooper no labeling or sticker required. Even more important than having a neighborhood chocolate shop is having a local produce market. When I lived in San Francisco, a produce market was only two blocks away, and I thought that was one of the best perks of my living situation. Now that I am in Brooklyn, I am overjoyed to have found this perfect market. It's clean, bright, well stocked, and inexpensive. This place has a good variety of fruits and vegetables for a fair price! For $20 you can walk out of there with two huge bags of groceries. Its really nice to have this place in Cobble Hill, where groceries can be expensive (at places like Union Market) or grocery shopping can be overwhelming (like at Trader Joes closer to Atlantic). The only reason I am not giving a five star rating is that once in a while I get a bad piece of fruit/vegetable - but thats normal with fresh produce. read more

This place is my go to for fruits and veggies. Better than its counterpart, Atlantic fruit and vegetable, K&Y offers cheap prices and fresh selections. I'm there twice a week for the fresh cut fruit (mango and watermelon). The only reason why they get a 4 and not a 5 is there have been a few times when I got something that wasn't the freshest, and was bad in a day or two. But really, the good in this place trumps those experiences. Not to mention fast and friendly service. I am definitely lucky to have these guys just down the block... read more

DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE!!! I went to purchase vegetables. The price was clearly marked at $1.99 per pound for brussel sprouts. The woman rang me up and charged me $2.49 per pound. When I told her of the price difference she said "Oh, we raised price, didn't change sign". I told her that this was illegal. They did not offer to refund my money. The cashier proceeded to ignore me and ring up the next customer. In stead of making a scene over 50 cents. I walked out...BUYER BEWARE!!!! read more

i really don't think you can beat this place based on the combination of quality and price. they have a decent selection and everything is always cheaper than at the other markets in the area. and they have bulk nuts, grains and dried fruit (!) so you don't have to buy a pound of whatever when all you need is a fraction of that. read more

I wish I had found this earlier! The produce is ultra-fresh (except for some ultra-limp green beans I got once) and insanely inexpensive. In the past, I've just stopped by Gourmet Fresh but the prices are much more reasonable here and the fact that they're open until 9pm is another bonus. read more

K&Y offers a great selection of fresh fruits and veggies at prices that you don't anywhere in this neighborhood. They have a great selection of asian produce, fresh tofu and convenient packages of pre-cut veggies. It isn't organic and it's not Whole Foods, but the product is very good, the value is incredible and it's an easy place to shop. read more

I currently live on Eastern Parkway (soon to move to Cobble Hill) and I have been hauling myself to K & Y via the B71 via Union Street for MONTHS because I LOVE LOVE LOVE their prices and selection. I had to stop buying green leaf lettuce at Fairway because it was so sandy no matter what I did I would end up with gritty leaves. Everything at K & Y is fairly priced, they have nice, fresh stock (big packs of Brussell sprouts and BIG bags of red leaf lettuce) and the line always zips through efficiently. I cannot wait to be able to walk the two block from my new apartment to go to K & Y. I was nervous to see the Union Market open across the street but they don't seem particularly produce-focused. I am ALWAYS amazed with what I walk out with for the dollars I spend (and they don't give you the stink-eye when you pay your $10 total on your debit card). They're not fancy but they are worth a look!!! read more
