I didn't realize how easy it is to just freeze up and do nothing when someone tries to hurt you, so I think this is a great class to learn basic street fighting. I'm a petite lady and I always worry that a bigger person will try to attack me and I won't be able to fight back, but I think if I continue to take krav maga classes I will gain the muscle memory and strength to defend myself. I've taken kick boxing class and it's great for cardio and strength training but you're always punching an inanimate object (sand bag) so it doesn't put you in the mindset of being attacked by someone. When I took my krav maga class I was already learning how to fight one on one with another person and it forced me to think quick on my feet and attack back. Also, I had my first class with Morgan and she is super awesome! Very informative and her demonstrations make it easy to learn when it's your first time. She also makes it very fun. There's a groupon for this class and they also offer a free first time try out!

Five stars, need I say more? Of course, I will. I stumbled…read moreupon this place while looking for reasonably priced Krav Maga classes. I think they have the best price in town. I am traveling for year, and I needed to learn some useful real life street self defense. I am so glad to have found this place. The classes are fairly small, which lets you get a more personal training. All of the trainers are super awesome (shout out to Morgan!) The best thing about to fit to fight krav maga classes is that it's pretty comprehensive. I heard other classes teaches you techniques, per level. Hence, you will be doing level 1 before you can proceed to getting your hands on to some much more advance self defense ie. Knife defense or gun defense. Hence, you will be doing fighting stances for a while. But here, they teach you the basics, and then also lets you experience various advance techniques. They will ask you "what do you feel like learning today?" And you can tell them, and they can plan for it. Maybe you will get to learn that technique you suggested that day, and if not, they will try to do it the next time. Granted, you will not master these advance techniques right away of course, but at least, they gave you the knowledge to do it. You end up getting better at it, when they go over that same technique on classes later on. So it's a cycle. By doing this, I was able to cover a lot of useful real life self defense skills, and I only had 4-5wks of training before I left. A few examples include: gun defense, knife defense, what to do when you are being hostage (with gun or knife), get someone off of you, etc. Krav maga is awesome. A very useful self defense and a real work out too. If I come back to Atlanta, I am definitely coming here again. I do miss this place!

His programs are engaging for all age groups and he wants to help everyone improve and make progress towards their goals in the martial arts. He has lineage as a student of Hanshi Pachivas in the Shuri-Ryu style of karate. His dojo offers karate and jiu-jitsu classes. Our kids look forward to Karate Camp each summer and the other events at the dojo throughout the year. The dojo offers great birthday parties for kids too (best party spot we have used!). He cultivates a culture of respect and the attitude that everyone can learn something from anyone else, regardless of their belt rank. Students encourage each other and are welcoming to new students. His classes help you to improve your physical and mental fitness, while learning practical skills for self-defense if you ever had to use it, all in a supportive atmosphere with great camaraderie.

Having taken a long (10-yr) break from martial arts, I got the itch to jump back in and started…read morelooking at many schools inside the perimeter. I was primarily looking for a school that addressed three things that other Atlanta schools can't provide: 1) a diversified experience with multiple disciplines, 2) an actual curriculum that would provide structure to the various lessons, and a path to future belt tests, and 3) some sort of supplemental training that would reinforce what is taught in the dojo. I joined Evolution X and while I have not been a student for very long, it provides all of these things and more: several different martial arts disciplines; a calendar and curriculum that indicates what will be taught, and when (and when it will be repeated in the future); and a super helpful library of online training resources that covers every lesson as you advance through the belts. From a teaching and training perspective, this is a very well-managed school. On top of this, I've found that the other students are helpful and supportive - and respectful of new students (myself included) - making the experience a positive one. Net net: Josh Moree runs a top-notch school for kids and adults alike, and if you are looking to learn about multiple disciplines for comprehensive martial arts training, Evolution X delivers!

I would love to train regularly with Sensei Moree but live in Roswell so doing the drive regularly would be difficult. I come from a different background in martial arts (Yoshukai), so most of the things I was exposed to during the seminars were new to me. Sensei Moree and the other students were extremely helpful and patient with me. They made me feel very welcome, which is not always the case when visiting different styles of martial arts schools. He is a great teacher and explains techniques very well. AKJ incorporates different styles/disciplines in the training- which I think is excellent. If you are considering starting training in martial arts, I highly recommend AKJ. I am confident in saying you won't regret the decision. Osu!

GENERAL ASSESSMENT Our overall assessment is that Shaolin…read moreInstitute does an amazingly successful job fulfilling its promise as a learning experience for both the body and mind. As we have so far experienced it, Shaolin Institute indeed teaches a "way of life" in which students can experience gratifying physical achievement, whether in Tai Chi or Kung Fu, while also exercising and expanding mindfulness. One of the most appealing aspects of Shaolin Institute is the frequent reference before and after classes regarding how specific cultural, historical, medical, and scientific achievements are directly relevant for learning and appreciating martial arts. TEACHING ASSESSMENT It is impressive that Shaolin Institute exceeds expectations in basically every category used to evaluate teachers. Below are our summaries of Shaolin Institute's multifaceted teaching strengths. CURRICULUM * SI teachers follow the SI curriculum. * SI teachers choose activities for each student relevant to the SI curriculum and each student's level of achievement. * When feasible, SI teachers sometimes helpfully group students together to learn and practice as a group the forms they have previously learned. INSTRUCTION * SI teachers provide direction so that each student knows what to focus on during class. * SI teachers present new forms clearly and logically, and helpfully demonstrate new forms. * SI teachers provide feedback and re-teach forms when necessary. Teachers provide opportunities for students to practice new forms both with and without supervision. MOTIVATION * SI teachers show genuine concern for the students. * SI teachers project a positive, encouraging tone for the classroom experience. * SI teachers establish a level of difficulty, suited for each student's level, which encourages success. SI teachers provide good verbal praise, as well as critique as needed. COMMUNICATION * SI teachers always demonstrate enthusiasm in what they are teaching. * SI teachers explain and demonstrate forms clearly. * SI teachers respond graciously and substantively to questions. EXPECTATIONS * SI teachers communicate expectations to students. * SI teachers listen to students' feedback during class and adjust their teaching pace and content accordingly. * SI teachers encourage students to participate inextracurricular community opportunities, which isimportant for the students' confidence as well as the school's exposure. METHODOLOGY & MATERIALS * SI teachers often vary how they conduct classes, for example by describing the forms, including their origins, applications, etc., and/or by physically demonstrating the forms. Both methods are helpful, especially for students who learn in different ways. * SI teachers sometimes provide supplemental resources, such as video recordings of the classes, which can be exceptionally helpful for students who want to practice at home. EVALUATIVE ACTIVITIES * SI teachers monitor and give feedback on student progressduring each individual class. * SI teachers give oral evaluative comments, as well as sometimes grades or scores. * SI teachers are available for and sometimes proactively create opportunities for one-on-one progress discussions with students. CLASS ENVIRONMENT * SI teachers clearly communicate requirements for attitude and behavior, notably by emphasizing the SI student creed and the rituals of class beginnings and endings. TEACHER-STUDENT INTERACTIONS * SI teachers make an effort to know each student as an individual. * SI teachers routinely work to promote positive self-image in students. * SI teachers routinely create a classroom climate in which students are encouraged to grow and assume personal responsibility for their growth. LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOR * SI teachers are observed routinely cooperating graciously with their teaching peers, demonstrating authentic respect for one another. * SI teachers are often observed sharing ideas and methods with their fellow teachers. * SI teachers are observed regularly seeking to advance their own growth. This continuing education, observed by the students, is motivating to the students and demonstrates how we are all learning and growing.
