The ride out to this town through the beautiful hilly fireweed covered countryside alone is worth…read morethe money Nina will extract from your wallet. Nina and her cafe / gift shop are unique, fun, and intimidating. All are getting older, dustier, and crustier- but a treat just the same. The sign on the building said "open" when we arrived but the door was locked and no one in sight. By the time I read all the notes on the door, Nina drove up from her house across the road. She got out of her car and asked if we came to look or eat- if it was just to look she wasn't going to open for us. "Lucky" for us we came to eat. She opening the door, told us to "take your shoes off" and we followed her to the inner sanctum gift shop / roped off special seating place. She explained the menu and that we would need a reservation for the "full Russian experience" given at the special seating place. The menu had 5 or 6 items but 3 weren't available unless you had a reservation. Nina cooked us borcht, pel'meni, homemade fireweed bread, fireweed tea, and dessert- all were tasty. We sat in the cafe area in front and Nina passed us our food thru a window to her kitchen area. We were the only people there but Nina is having trouble walking so we didn't mind getting up and serving ourselves. Bring your reading glasses cause every time we asked Nina a question, she pulled out some paper or brochure and told us to read about it. She has signs and printed info everywhere. Turns out she has a masters degree in electrical engineering. She also has a doctorate in money extraction- but was worth the experience. Would I go back? Probably not. Do I regret going? Absolutely not!!!

Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. I am originally from Russia, so I was…read morelooking forward to authentic Russian food, but the borscht did not taste traditional at all. It tasted as though it had been made from frozen vegetables on a fly rather than with fresh vegetables, and it lacked the flavor and quality that I used to. There is no seating at the restaurant. All of the food was brought out to our car, which was unexpected and made the experience feel more like a takeout pickup than dining at a restaurant. The service was also disappointing. Nina came across as rude and very pushy, and the menu was sent by text message instead of being provided at the restaurant, which felt unusual. What surprised me the most was the price. We were charged $4.50 for a single piece of bread, and it wasn't even fresh. In total, we paid about $70 for three bowls of borscht and three pieces of bread, which was far too expensive for the quality of the food we received. As someone who grew up with traditional Russian cuisine, I was especially disappointed because the borscht did not taste authentic. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. We were group of three and each of us was very disappointed.

Holy WOW! Small establishment in Homer- not a ton of seating but enough. Seat yourselves, they come…read moretake your order. The service was excellent! We started with apps- the Fresh Rolls (vegetarian/vegan) are done beautifully, but the star was the cilantro herb dressing/dip on the side was amazing- I tried to get the recipe but they weren't giving it up! I'd buy it by the bottle! The crab Rangoon were enjoyed (I don't eat them but two of the diners ate them all and loved them). The steam pork dumplings were delicious- tender, flavorful, not gummy at all. Light but filling! For main meals- Clear Tom Yum soup with shrimp: excellent flavor! Lots of shrimp and mushrooms and the perfect balance of heat and flavor. I adore good Tom Yum and struggle to find it on the Peninsula but this is one of the two best I've had worldwide. Pad Chow Mein- we got one chicken and one pork. The meat was a touch dry, but there was a decent amount of nice, light broth/sauce in the bottom. The noodles were perfect and tons of great veggies. Pad Prik Gluer Tofu- I'm not a tofu fan and even I loved this! The crispy shallots/onions were amazing (also needs to be sold by the buck!) and overall just killer flavor. Garlic Chicken- this one has some allergies so they made sure to leave off soy/gluten for us. The fried garlic on top was wonderful and the perfect texture addition, and everything was fresh and steamed perfectly. The Thai Iced Teas were fantastic as well, rich and creamy and still light. A simple Jasmine hot tea worked nicely for the rest of us. We will be back and will definitely be bringing friends. Large portions, excellent quality and great service- The whole Peninsula needed this place!
