The Hawaii Animal Sanctuary isn't what you'd think; it's mostly a safe zone for feral cats. The smell is immediately noticeable when you get out of the car: feline feces. The hot day we were there just made it worse the longer we stayed. The coolest part of this place is that the property owns a number of World War II era tunnels. They were used for munition and food storage before being decommissioned. Now the sanctuary uses them for large rummage sales to raise money for the property. The tunnels smell old; they're humid and a bit uncomfortable for people bothered by that type of climate. They offer $5 historic tours with a guide at noted times, so be sure to be there early if you're interested. Now for the unpleasant things. We brought our dog along and I felt unwelcome. I was so confused due to the name. Asking about the makeup of the animals they care for (as stated above) it's only cats. After we did our shopping, the dog and I waited outside. It was unbearably hot in the sun. We waited under the tarp area and were quickly met with fire ants biting our feet. Going under the trees, the smell was even worse, and immediately our feet were covered with flies. They were unrelenting. It was then we headed back in to the tunnel - I'd much rather deal with humidity than filth. In come the volunteers. I was reprimanded and rudely talked to on more than one occasion while I was minding my own business. No details are necessary, only they were "yelling" at the wrong person. It really turned me off to wanting to come back or bring others here. I'm unsure about their mission even less so when rudeness is all I experienced; outside of the stench that is.

First, the parking is very limited and you might have park a block away or so in the residential neighborhood. If you park outside, be aware that there is a very long and very steep driveway that you would have to walk up to get to the bunkers. Be prepared for a long hot tour if you go during the summer like we did. Bring water to hydrate and make sure you use the restroom just before you arrive because there is no public restroom. The fee for the tour is only $5 and $3 for children. Unfortunately our 11:00 tour was very large with about 70 people attending. So, as we enter the bunker we crowd together so we can listen to the tour guide but the air gets warmer because of everyone's body heat so you start perspiring from the start. The tunnels add to the acoustics so that with a large crowd you can hear everyone talking which makes it hard to hear the narration. People started shushing others but that only made them talk softer which really didn't help because their voices still can be heard in the tunnels. They say that the 1:00 tour is the least crowded so that might be the best option if you want to go. After the first half hour we gave up. We were dripping with sweat and frustrated because we couldn't hear the narration so we cut our losses and left. What history we did manage to hear was very interesting so I may return when the weather cools. There is also a thrift shop in the bunker where everything they sell is really cheap. My wife managed to find a few items and it only cost her $5. All proceeds go the the animal shelter so your money goes to a good cause.

I brought my precious 18.5 year old boy here to assess whether we should continue to medicate him or help him cross the rainbow bridge. I decided for the latter and that isn't what made this such a terrible experience. I regret each moment after I made that decision. When you arrive at this clinic, they take your dog from you and examine them while you wait in the car. So they had already taken him from me. The vet came out to have the conversation with me about options, and when I made my decision they told me I could wait in the car or the reception area. I chose the reception area, not really thinking much about it because I was grieving. Within moments, the receptionist started giving me papers to sign and options for cremation and I heard my baby boy screaming bloody murder in the room next to the reception area. I was in a panic, but in freeze mode, crying while the receptionist just stared at me. I had no idea they were going to needle and sedate him before I even got to see him again! After what felt like an eternity of hearing him scream, they brought me into the room and he was completely in shock and already half way gone. I picked him up and she didn't even give me a chance to talk to him or say anything she just stated explaining what she was injecting into his IV. He was dead within mere minutes of me stepping into the room. Then of course they told me to take all the time I needed. I was so traumatized I walked out and left his blanket, his bed, his collar. To be fair, I called the clinic a week later and left a message saying I wanted to speak with the clinic manager about a recent experience. No one ever called me back. They never even called to see if I wanted his things back. And they charged me over $400 for this traumatic experience. Don't get me wrong, losing a dog is never easy. But when I've done home euthanasia before, it's so much more peaceful and compassionate. This. Was. Awful. My sweet boy did not deserve to die that way after 18 faithful years. I will never, ever forget his screams. Never. Look elsewhere for pet care. This place doesn't deserve your money.

Several years ago, we found a dog trainer that recommended a prong collar and bark collar for my german shepherd/husky dog. My dog ended up staying overnight at the vet because the prong collar cut through her fur and severely damaged her neck area. It was so painful to watch her suffer, and prong collars were definitely NOT the solution to what our pup needed. These collars do more damage than help. Sean is anti-prong collars, and he teaches exactly how to train dogs through positive reinforcement training. We first found Sean at a time when we were so lost and wanting guidance to issues that I don't think any other dog trainer on this island could have solved. I contacted Dakine Canine dog trainer first, explained to her the issues that we were having, and then she recommended that we reach out to Sean at Pet Perspective. (We thank the head trainer at Dakine Canine for this recommendation!) We were raising a 2 yr old german shepherd at the time, and because she didn't get the necessary training starting early, she grew up to be a reactive dog. To this day, we say to ourselves that if we found Sean when our german shepherd pup was a baby and trained her well from the start, she would have turned out to be the bestest version she could ever be... At that time, we got a baby english cocker spaniel pup, and our 2 yr old shepherd could NOT get along with the pup at all. Whenever the puppy was near her, she would bark and react so badly that for months we had to put them in separate rooms, fearing that if the puppy goes to the shepherd, then she would get bitten and hurt. We did not know what to do with this situation. We were so lost and even thought that we had to give up the puppy to resolve the situation. That's when Sean enters the picture. He came to our house for the initial consultation and was able to figure out a solid plan! What was amazing was Sean was able to quiet down our german shepherd dog right off the bat! We've never seen anybody with such a good command and handling of dogs. He gave us a plan on how we can make our german shepherd dog get along with our english cocker spaniel. And putting to work with what he suggested, we were finally able to get the german shepherd to be OK and calm hanging around with the baby pup. This has been incredible because now the two are BEST BUDDIES!!! They love each other so much, and the shepherd is like a mother/sister/friend to the cocker spaniel. All we did was do what Sean told us to do, and this miracle happened! Sean has been helping us train our reactive german shepherd pup for over a year now, and she is growing up to be the best version she can ever be!! She is an extremely happy dog, and we are so thankful that we have Sean's guidance. If we found Sean earlier when we first adopted our german shepherd, she would not have turned out to be reactive. But that is OK. Because we were able to find Sean at a time when we most needed help, and it has been amazing to see our dog grow and flourish every single day. And the whole reason I'm writing this review is to help spread the word!! There's someone out there that needs Sean and his team. Please don't give up your dog. They need you, and you need them. They were kind and patient with the kitty. They found her owner, and set me up with the contact information for the previous adoption agency the kitty was from. Long story short, she was rehomed WITH ME And they are now my Veterinaries! I've been back once since, and they are SO KNOWLEDGEABLE. Gave me great advice on foods and treats for my kitty and answered all my questions! There is a waiting area with a few chairs. Their rooms are very clean and spacious. And their staff adores pets. No meanies here. 10/10 recommend!

Ali'i animal is not our regular vet but we have used them for daycare and boarding services. Today we went to Ali'i to have my pet ears examined and a hot spot wound re-checked. While we went specifically for these two issues the vet lectured me on my raw dog feeding as my dog eats raw and has been on raw for the last nine years with no issues. I will not feed kibbles. And maybe once in a great while I'll get him home cooked food. But my visit was not based on his food. My concerns were his ear and wound. Lastly, while Ali'i animal is a great facility, the prices are high!
