The flavor was enhanced by the meat being cooked on the bone and some of the bones were split which enabled the marrow to enrich the flavor even more. The portion was more than ample and I shall enjoy another meal as a result. I will simmer the meat longer to complete tenderizing it. I first encountered Afghan cuisine some 20 years ago when I was privileged to work with resettling Afghani people in St Louis, MO. I have eaten at many Afghan restaurants since then and have enjoyed the food very much. However, of all the restaurants and homes that I've eaten in, I have found that I do not enjoy the sauces offers here. There is no true "white" sauce that I've eaten elsewhere and all of the sauces are watery instead of thick. Perhaps it is a regional preference. Also, I wish they would consider adding a half naan/half rice option to the place instead of rice OR naan. The rice, by the way is absolutely DELICIOUS I also enjoy the complimentary green or milk tea but would appreciate a cooler of water to be dispensed in the same area. I enjoy both the food ambience in this casual spot. I will continue to return, as I work my way through their menu.

They have a good amount of Middle Eastern groceries, I saw a few American items, and even a few Russian items. They have kitchenware, they have dried fruits, they have cookies and pastries, etc. I bought a bag of dried figs. I thought they were a bit high, pricewise, but they were very, very good. I ordered from here two days in a row. Both times, I asked for my food mild. Both days, the main dish was not spicy at all. The first time, they told me it would be about 15 minutes for my food to be ready. That was fine, I had the time. I had the veggie Samosas, And the manto, which are dumplings with beef and spices, topped with a sour yogurt sauce and lentils. I believe there was also some pepper on the top. I had enough for two meals. Everything was very good. The samosas were delicious, and didn't seem that spicy when I were eating them, but my lips were definitely tingling afterwards. I didn't mind at all. They came with a chutney, but I didn't have any. I've never really cared for chutney. Chutney is definitely an acquired taste. The Manto, was also extremely good. The dumplings were tender, I liked the filling, and while yes, the yogurt sauce was a little bit sour, it was not overly so. It complemented the dish very well. I liked the lentils, and whatever spice it was that came with them on the top. The dish was great. The next day, I decided to order ahead from DoorDash. I did pickup, because they are not part of the dash pass program, and so you have to pay a delivery fee even if you are a dash pass member. This time I ordered the beef samosas, and the qabili palaw, which is like a biryani. It had fragrant, rice, roasted carrots, raisins, and a lamb shank. I also ordered the. Fini, which is a traditional Afghan custard. They called me back to tell me that they were out of the fini, and out of the beef samosas, so I had the veggie samosas again and I ordered the Gulab, jamun which I really like. The main dish was again a home run. The rice was tender, fragrant and delicious, I liked the carrots, and the raisins added a pop of sweetness. The lamb shank was very large, tender, and delicious. It had a large bone that I could use as a handle, to eat it "Fred Flintstone style." :). Again, I had enough for two meals. While the gulab jamun was tender and had plenty of the sweet syrup on the inside, they only gave me one. I had thought they would at least give me two of them. The price of the food both days was very reasonable, and I want to come back and try more things. Thank you.

It was slow tonight when I came in so the service was prompt and the man behind the counter was very friendly and asked several questions I had about the menu and about halal food in general. He taught me a few new things about middle eastern food and he was very helpful in that regard. I ordered the gyro plate and at the last minute decided to just eat in rather than take-out. So, I had a seat and the man at the counter brought out a very delicious chicken and corn chowder which was an unexpected surprise and I really enjoyed it greatly. Then, as I finished the soup, he brought out the gyro plate which was stacked generously with rice, meat, sauce with lettuce, tomato and onions. The meat was delicious, the Greek tzatziki cucumber sauce was very good also. Overall, for a very reasonable cost of about $15 I had a very satisfying meal that I struggled to even finish. Very good value. I will return with the family and I can recommend Darya to anyone looking for a meal! I did notice some very negative reviews, and I suspect that this could be related to cultural misunderstandings perhaps? English is clearly not the first language for the people running this restaurant so I think it's important to understand that perhaps it's a good policy to level expectations to that fact.

They just buy everything at a discount and pile it up and sit on it if somebody buys it. Big advice try anything before you buy it even better don't even try just walk away. The meat doesn't look fresh either. It's really a sad affair what happened with all the afghanis coming into Sacramento, they bought all the grocery stores and restaurants to open Afghani restaurants and grocery stores, there is one on every damn block and sometimes two or three across from each others. How many Afghani restaurants or grocery stores do we need? They can survive making $100 a year and write off taxes. We no longer have Mediterranean food meaning food from the Mediterranean like Lebanese or Syrian or Jordanian food, it all has been taken over by afghanis and they pretend to cook Mediterranean food when it's not. Afghani food is primarily meat and rice and they wouldn't know a vegetable to save their lives when Mediterranean food is primarily vegetables balanced with some meat. Stay away from this rotten place and be cautious about other Afghani stores as well, it's pretty much the same quality and story.
