This used to be our go-to for Indian in Folsom, but things have taken a turn. We went to the buffet on a weekday, and it was near empty. We assumed it was the economy, since we used to see this place full at lunchtime. Sat down and asked for Cokes, and the first thing we were told is that they were out of regular Coke, We didn't think much of it, and asked for tea instead, to find out that they have chai at the buffet. Things got weird after that. The buffet seemed untouched, and smaller than we remember, Options have been whittled down, so there was a lamb dish and butter chicken, and a chicken 65 option, but no chicken curry. So, two meat options. Fine, but the lamb was rough, and not very good. So, butter chicken was the main option here. Papardam was not puffed up, basically just oily raw papar as if it was fried in oil that was not hot enough. Very odd. Cucumbers were brown, and scant. Chai was watery and the burfa was off. complicated dishes were replaced with simpler things, like a spiced potato fry that was unappealing. Between us we tried all of their dishes, but were only excited by a few of analready stripped down buffet. The sole person managing the floor thought it was ok to stare at me whenever I got up from the table. Very strange, Only afterward did we realize how many options there are in Folsom now. ALOT. So this might be part of the problem, as there seems to be an oversaturated market with Indian restaurants in this town now. Which is great, but it seems like Ruchi is falling by the wayside as people go elsewhere for their Indian buffet fix. read more

What can I say! It's Indian, it's a buffet, it's got lamb, etc. My friend says this is a South Indian restaurant. I like both but I think I prefer South Indian more. The food was very good. They have both garlic and non garlic naan. And they don't charge extra for garlic naan! Today we were able to find goat/lamb curry. I found it very tasty. My Chennai friend said it was spicy! Indeed it was but I was surprised that he mentioned it. Lolz. Beware the spicy goat curry! They also offered free lassi and chai with the buffet meal! But most importantly, they were particularly nice to my picky son who didn't eat very much. That was excellent customer care and service towards my child and I am very thankful for that. Came for a lunch buffet. The standout offering was an aloo and paneer dish with a sauce very similar to (maybe the same?) a tikka masala. Everything else was only ok. Service was hit or miss as far as water refills, and all the storage in the back space near the restroom made for a space that was less than comfortable. I suppose getting that aloo dish as takeout could be worthwhile, but honestly with so many nearby alternatives, I don't know if a return visit is in the cards. read more

I've been going here off and on for a long time now. When I'm in the mood for my butter Chicken Masala, it's my goto place! I'll be honest, it's probably only once every 1-3 months, just depends?? However I'm always reminded how delicious this place is everytime I go there!! This night was a little different, I had just got back in town with my daughter and my wife and I were in the mood, so I told her that I would head over and get 2 Butter Chickens / 2 Steamed Rice / 2 Garlic Naan. Food was 10/10.... However, when I got there, there was an election party going on. They invited me in, offered me a beer and some chili fried shrimp. Beer was great, shrimp was delicious. I stayed long enough to get my food home hot and fresh, but I was over the moon happy with how nice everyone was and how inviting they were to me. Ruchi Indian restaurant in Folsom on East Bidwell Street serves up some tasty Indian food at decent prices. I called in a lunch order for pickup. The gentleman handling the phone and orders was very polite and kind. He was super pleasant to speak with. He was wearing a face mask and socially distancing. When I picked up my order, I told him it was the first time ordering from his restaurant. I asked him about the lunch menu that was posted on the window. I asked if it was available on the weekend, he said yes. The lunch menu is served everyday. That's good to know since most places only have it available for the weekday. Plus he said if there is an entree not listed on the printed lunch menu, they can make it. That's customer service! The lunch menu plates come with meat or veg curry of your choice AND a mini veg samosa, rice pilaf, dal or channa, and naan (2 pieces) for $8.99. Onto the food that I ordered. I ordered the Wednesday lunch special of chicken korma and a side of rice for $9.99. I asked for it to be mild. He told me that it comes more of a medium. Even though I'm a spice wimp and can't stand a lot of heat... I went for it. Woo wee! It had a nice spiced kick. It didn't hit me right away. I can taste the flavor from first bite though. Nice big chunks of tender chicken. The chicken was fork tender. The heat hit me a few bites in. But then it quickly went away to start up again after each bite. I'm not complaining. It was delicious. The rice was delicious as well. Fluffy and fragrant. The vegetable samosas (2 for $4.40 ) was tasty. They were a good size. They came with two distinctly different flavored chutneys. Best obsidian food around. The dining room is typically pretty quiet and not many people, but also nicely decorated. Restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Staff was over the top nice! Brought us free mango lassies (which were AMAZING), we also got an order of samosas which are supposed to come with 2, but there were three of us, and he brought us three. We went here on a weekday evening and this place wasn't crowded so we got a bit skeptical on whether we will regret our decision of coming in here. We were seated and the glasses and plates that wet out on the table were extremely clean. I was very impressed. Server was a bit weak in English but understood all of our order and even answered questions. They offer a free appetizer for Yelp checkin. Chicken 65 and Apollo Fish were good. The former more juicier and meatier than the latter. Apollo Fish had less meat and more batter. But overall both the appetizers tasted great. We cleaned up the plates. Butter Naan was so fresh & fluffy. Goat curry had a good combination of meat and bones. The taste was incredible. The chicken biriyani was delicious. Mango Lassi was so tasty. We loved the food overall and the next goal is to visit this place for lunch buffet. I think we have found a good Indian restaurant in Folsom and only hope that they deliver to El Dorado Hills! read more

Wow! I can't recall visiting a place where majority of the plates and bowls were dirty. I had to wipe down the plate before heading to the buffet line. Majority of the entrees don't look appetizing. The naan bread was burnt on one side. The pakora looked burnt. The dessert options were questionable also. I recall coworkers who race about this place many years ago. For my first visit here, I'm a bit disappointed. What happened to the good food they used to serve here?? The servers were very nice and attentive. Really disappointed after trying this place for lunch buffet. I had heard great reviews from others who tried it previously. Not sure if they changed owners/management or what happened. We arrived around 12:30pm on a Tuesday and there were only a few tables with customers. All appeared to be enjoying their food and a woman with a take out box was hogging the buffet line while serving herself the to go order. Service was attentive for a buffet - our waters were refilled multiple times within the hour we were there and a basket of hot plain naan was brought out to the table. Unfortunately the buffet food was mediocre at best. They give you a metal tray with compartments instead of a plate - think TV dinner or jail cafeteria. They no longer offer salad bar. When you start the buffet line, there are 3 sauces (white, green and one other) but no chutneys. Then there were two soups and both looked extremely watered down so I didn't try them - lentil and one other. The fried pakora (onion and vegetable) were both hard and dense. They had two rice options and the one I tried was bland. They had a fried eggplant dish that tasted more like chewy fried breading than the vegetable. I didn't see a lot of other vegetable options but they did have a curry lentil dish and a garbanzo dish with potatoes. The sauce in the butter chicken was good but the meat was tough cubes of white meat breast. Tandoori chicken thigh was flavorful and moist. Choices in the buffet were limited- no samosas, no paneer dishes, only chicken and no other meats nor fish offered for non-vegetarians. They had a rice pudding for dessert at the end, no fruit or other dessert options. No fresh or cooked vegetables that weren't fried. I only eat Indian food a few times a year and won't be back to this place again. read more

The restaurant is clean, the service is friendly and polite, the food arrives quickly and hot, and everything was tasty. We ordered the vegetable samosas. They weren't quite as crispy as we would have liked, but the flavor was excellent. We also had the friend caulifower, which was tasty, though, again, not as crispy as we would have liked. All entrees come with rice *and* naan, which is rare for an Indian restaurant (you usually pay a la carte for these items). We had the palak paneer and the chicken tikka masala. Both were very flavorful. The naan was well toasted and very hot. The server brought us generous portions of tamarind sauce and mint chutney, and cheerfully brought us mire when we asked for it. We have eaten Indian food all over the country and in other countries, and this place did not compare unfavorably. Give it a try; it's worth it. Dishes: Chicken Tikka Pakora, South Indian Combo, Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan Went there for our Sunday Dinner. This was my second time here and we were greeted politely and shown our way to the table. Ambience is nice. While placing the order I had asked them to serve the pakora and south indian combo first and then serve the curry and naan but they still did not wait for us to finish with our first course of the meal and brought in the naan and chicken and the naan was slightly cold by the time we got to it. The chicken tikka pakora was served hot but the taste of gram flour was overpowering the taste of any tikka masala in the chicken. The chutneys served with the pakoras were great though. The south Indian Combo came with a masala dosa, medhu vada and idly. I liked the dosa more than the other two. Coming to the curry and naan. It was good. Not the best honestly but not bad either. Their naan was really soft and was the better part between the curry and the naan. I think I will visit the place again to try their other curries or maybe their buffet. read more

I've been coming to Ruchi for 10 years - since it was Priya - and I'm not going back. It's changed here. Off white walls, no decorations except for Ganesh at the entrance. It feels like a cold cafeteria - there's even an echo from people's voices. The tables are shoved together tightly. The whole place isn't welcoming, the warmth is gone. There's a male Server there that's great - smart, friendly & now he looks unhappy too. Their business license shows a new partner - a company/corporation. I gave it 2 stars because the buffet is very large. Last time I was there at 1pm the chcken makhani had run out (except for a small amount of sauce). I was there for 45+ minutes & they never refilled it. FYI The place seems to serve lunch until ~3pm. That would be good if they refilled things. Oh - and no more baskets of naan. Get it from the buffet.. if there's any left. Ruchi *was* a great restaurant. RIP I'm going to India Spice on Sunrise now (a family owned business in Citrus Heights).
