Chicken Mantoo (dumplings) and Koobidah (lamb and beef)
    Sofia C.

We've been looking for an Afghan restaurant for a while and we found a great one. Located in a smaller strip mall off of Watt Ave in Sacramento. When we walked in, the restaurant had a few tables for dine in. The menus were at the front and you order at the front and once the food is ready, they bring it to your table. We shared 3 dishes. The chicken mantoo, which was delicious dumpling dish. The lamb/beef koobideh. And my favorite dish growing up, Qabili, which is lamb shank under a bed of rice topped with raisins and carrots. The owners were there taking the orders and cooking our meals. Very hospitable and kind. Looking forward to coming back.

Flavor profile on point. Loved this family place. Sat and ate for over 2 hours and could've eaten more. Delicious and great service!

Service was great, the employees made us feel so welcomed and they were very helpful when we explained it was our first time eating afghan food. We had a great experience. The dumpling appetizer was so delicious! Also the beef kabob was full of flavor and sooo delicious. The lamb was very tender but it needed more broth to counteract the dryness of the rice on top of it. The chicken was good and the portion sizes were great as well. The place was empty so we were able to focus solely on the food without any noise or distractions. I would definitely come back again

Chicken Kabob + free yummy bread with two dipping sauces

YUM YUM YUM! I had been craaaaaaaving Afghan food for the longest and am over the top happy that we have this amazing little gem in our city. My sister and I stopped in on a cold rainy day earlier this week and it beyond hit the spot for both of us. It is a simple establishment, very clean, with super delicious food served PIPING hot by the lovely individuals working there. My sister ordered the chicken kabob and I'm vegetarian so I ordered the Eggplant borani bajandan dish (served with rice but not pictured) with an additional order of Mantoo with Veggie to split between us. EVERYTHING and I do mean everything was SO DELICIOUS. Before our order came out they brought fresh bread with two dipping sauces (the red one was sweet then sour hot and the green one might have been Zaatar based but I could definitely be wrong it also had kick to it) which were yummy as well. We basically finished everything with just a bit leftover for my sis to snack on later. It is so rare to find veggie Mantoo (usually only see the beef option) and it was just *perfection. The dishes were so flavorful and everything was well balanced and freshly made. The people working there are also super kind and take pride in what they do. Highly recommend this place the next time your craving authentic Afghani cuisine!

When I was here, there was a young man at the register who also made the food. Daughter got a chicken kebab which she enjoyed and I got some sort of "burger." It was supposed to come with an egg to boot. I got the order to go. The order took quite a bit of time which gave me the opportunity to see the interesting grocery store items: various loose leaf teas, spices, refrigerated gulab jamun, it was all very fascinating. Once home, unwrapping my "burger" it was more like a huge wrap with a type of flatbread consisting mostly of fries and salad mix with a few pieces of chicken. No egg to speak of. I ended up throwing out 80% of it. Maybe there was a language barrier? In any case I don't think I'll be returning.

The salad that accompanied the meal was quite rustic - roughly cut cabbage, a few thin slices of tomato and cucumber and a big hunk of red onion. It was a perfect balance for the chicken and rice. Sublime‼ I was not expecting a half chicken - and oh what a chicken! The skin on this chicken was the crispiest I've ever had without it being fried. It was like chicken crackling! There was a white sauce - thick and yogurty in taste that also enhanced the chicken. Whatever they do to make the chicken skin as crispy as it it, changes the texture of the meat. It is soft as opposed to tender, if you can consider the distinction. It is very interesting but not in a bad way. It's as though the chicken was boiled until tender, drained and patted dry and then baked in very high heat after the skin was oiled. I don't know if that is the process but that the best way I can describe the end product. I have one very small complaint about the meal - it could have used a bit more salt all around. And yet, when I put the rice, chicken, and salad into one bite I did not miss the salt at all! I came in around 5:45 pm on a Saturday evening and left about 7:40 and no one came in to dine or pick up take out. The meal totaled $21.53. The portion was enough for three. The entree was$14.99! I hope that they are doing well but I think they could do better if they kept the prices but cut their portions. I would like to see them remain in business. The food is good and the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing. There was a TV on the wall but it was not on. There was no "background" music and I found that very relaxing. I find that I am in this area quite frequently and I will remind myself to stop here more frequently. Please, do yourself a favor when in this area and stop by for lunch or dinner. You can't go wrong with the quality or quantity of this food.

What a wonderful surprise!…read more I was in the mood for kebabs and headed to my usual spot, only to find it closed. Rather than give up, I decided to try this Afghan restaurant--and I am so glad I did! The lamb kebab was absolutely outstanding: tender, flavorful, and packed with spices that complemented the meat perfectly. Best of all, it wasn't overly salty, which allowed all of the rich flavors to shine through. The rice was equally impressive--perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, and delicious enough to enjoy all by itself. In fact, the food was so good that I've already ordered it twice! When I got home, I shared some with my parents. After just one taste, they immediately put away the dinner they had planned to make and asked for the restaurant's address. Before long, I was ordering delivery for them too. That's how good it is. It's not often that I discover a new favorite restaurant, but this place has absolutely earned that distinction. If you're looking for authentic, flavorful Afghan cuisine, I highly recommend giving them a try. You may find yourself becoming a regular just like I plan to be! Thank you for such a wonderful meal. The flavor was enhanced by the meat being cooked on the bone and some of the bones were split which enabled the marrow to enrich the flavor even more. The portion was more than ample and I shall enjoy another meal as a result. I will simmer the meat longer to complete tenderizing it. I first encountered Afghan cuisine some 20 years ago when I was privileged to work with resettling Afghani people in St Louis, MO. I have eaten at many Afghan restaurants since then and have enjoyed the food very much. However, of all the restaurants and homes that I've eaten in, I have found that I do not enjoy the sauces offers here. There is no true "white" sauce that I've eaten elsewhere and all of the sauces are watery instead of thick. Perhaps it is a regional preference. Also, I wish they would consider adding a half naan/half rice option to the place instead of rice OR naan. The rice, by the way is absolutely DELICIOUS I also enjoy the complimentary green or milk tea but would appreciate a cooler of water to be dispensed in the same area. I enjoy both the food ambience in this casual spot. I will continue to return, as I work my way through their menu.
