Was in town for the holidays to visit family and wanted to make them homemade lumpia and adobo. The only filipino and asian market in Carson City, NV. We drove all the way to Carson City to seek out this store since my sister was on an Asian Market kick. For a seemingly small store, it had a huge inventory and the prices were pretty much consistent with what you'd find at Reno or Sparks. The store was fairly clean, organized and fully stocked, the service was pleasant and courteous enough. read more

I'm really enjoying the upgrade to this market. Their prices are reasonable and the produce is fresh. I'll be shopping here more often.

So I was in Carson City and looking for Filipino food. Thought this was a restaurant. Nope. It is a store. I felt so stupid when I popped in all hungry and ready to eat, I pretended I was looking for groceries. I know. So I bought some crackers. As I looked around the store there was stuff everywhere. It was disorganized and not particularly clean. I might have caught them on a bad day. Anyway, y experience with Filipino stores is it is hit and miss. I'll go check it out again and if I rated too low, I'll raise it. Nice people run the place, and I like that. read more

I live in Gardnerville, NV, where there is no Asian market. My options are to drive to Reno/Sparks, an hour each way, to Incline Village (an equally long drive) or to this Asian Minimart in Carson. You would never guess from the outside that this place has a great selection of dried, frozen, and canned Asian foods. They have several brands of whatever you might want - fish sauce, soy sauce, other seasonings, noodles. Need shrimp paste, preserved eggs, rice noodles? They have them. Nice people there. Prices are reasonable. They have virtually no Asian produce, fresh fish or meat. But, if you need most any Asian seasoning, weird spice, varieties of black vinegar, sweet soy sauce, whatever, they give you some choices. Way better than driving to Reno! I'll keep coming. It's not truly an Asian market that would have live fish, etc., and a wide choice of Asian fruits and vegetables, thus not 5 stars. Still, very good and without question, the best in the Carson Valley. read more

Three stars for just being a decent Asian (catering more towards Filipino food) market. One star for being in Carson City! I've passed by this tiny little supermarket more times than I've cared to admit, yet never realized it was a Filipino supermarket. I finally stopped in on a weekday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by what I could find inside - Filipino staples like longinesa (sausages), sia pao (steamed buns), lumpia (egg rolls) pan de sal (bread rolls), etc. Do note that most of the foods are frozen, obviously brought up from the Bay area, but I'm willing to sacrifice freshness for the fact that I don't have to drive 2 hours to Sacramento to get this stuff. read more

This is definitely a Filipino store as the name denotes. It's a Filipino word for fellow countrymen. Store is clean, well stocked and reasonably priced. I had to take off one star because the cashier, the only staff there, was not friendly at all. Since it's my first time, I asked him if it was ok to park right in front. He responded yes with an annoyed look on his face and then kept watching tv. There was no one there but me and another lady. He could have at least said hi and be happy to see someone come in. Maybe he was too engrossed with his tv show and didn't want to be bothered. I'd probably go back only if I absolutely need to. read more

I drove all the way up over Hwy 4 from Bear Valley, CA to visit this store. It happens to be the nearest Asian market to where I live. I'm vegan and have trouble finding the quality brands of Asian groceries anywhere near me on the West side of the Sierras, so I thought I'd try this store out. And what a pleasant surprise! The store is chock full of all the Asian items I was looking for and they have the best brands. For example, I was specifically looking for the highly recommended brand 'Aroy-D' coconut milk/cream. And they had it! along with other quality brands. I'm used to feeling lucky to even find coconut cream, let alone having a choice. They had such a vast array of items I kinda went hog-wild. Tons of canned goods (lychees, coconut milk/cream, etc.), and many types of noodles, Asian sauces, hard to find Japanese curry bars, etc. I felt silly to have such a ridiculous load of groceries (4 bags full). But it came to $70 which is so cheap for all I got. Plus the owner was very nice and accommodating. I must have asked him 20 times, which brand is better then the other. I may only be able to make the trek to this store once a year, because the pass closes during winter. That's why I stocked up. But I sure look forward to returning next season. Give it a try I think you will like it. read more

My husband and I love going into this store. Every time we stop by, they are always nice and helpful if we are looking for something in particular. Of course they are not as big as the ones in Reno, but they are great for last minute items, or yummy ramen! One time, my friend and I stopped in there shortly before they were going to close, but didn't even realize it! We were in there for about 10 minutes after they closed, but they did not even care! They were there with smiles on their faces, glad to have business. When we looked at the closing time, we felt bad, but they didn't even seem to mind. Everything I needed for my Tom Ka Kai soup and Red Curry was to be had at this quaint little market. The purveyor is charming and helpful and couldn't have been more cordial. The galangal, lemongrass and Kaffir lime leaves were frozen, but that does not take away from the flavor at all. In fact, you can use just what you need and not waste any. I freeze my leftover galangal and lime leaves anyway. It's not far from Lake Tahoe (about 35-40 minutes) and is conveniently located. Keep your eyes peeled once you turn onto Fairview Drive, as it's in a tiny little strip mall on the right (if you're coming off the 395), and faces the road. The signage does not stand out, but it's easy to find. I was surprised at the wide selection in such a small market. I highly recommend this one! read more
