This review is for my experience as a party guest and as the godmother of a recent birthday party celebrant. It's sad to see a bunch of 1-star reviews from anonymous profiles based off of 1 terrible party experience, so I feel compelled to share my positive experience. We celebrated my goddaughter's 1st birthday this past weekend, and this venue pulled out all the stops for her celebration. The venue owners did all the decorations and did a spectacular job! As soon as I walked into the venue, I was transported to Hello Kitty land (which was the theme for her party lol) They set up all the tables and chairs with linens that matched the party theme colors. And the dessert table set-up was all taken care of, all we (my best friend, her family and the rest of us party decorating committee) had to do was set up the centerpieces and party favors. It definitely took a lot of stress off of us and we were able to relax before the party started. The venue itself is very well maintained and aesthetically appealing with clean & well-stocked restrooms. Parking is a little tight but I believe overflow parking was available near the plaza with Nanding's bakery. They even had parking attendants working that night and ample signage that lead guests where to park. I was told that they offered à la carte services, such as the Photo Booth, so this business is a real one-stop shop. Overall we had an amazing time and the night went by so fast but so smoothly. The best part was we didn't have to stay behind to clean up, the staff at Kabayan took care of all of that! read more

We celebrated my son's first birthday here, we wanted to make it extra special for him just like he makes every day special for us. Michele & Derek went above & beyond to make everything perfect, it's very easy to make an appointment to see the hall & meet them to go over everything. The place is easy to find with lots of parking, the venue itself is amazing you get what you pay for, you can tell the owners take a lot of pride in their work everything is very clean. The restroom is inside, diaper changing area, & a small vanity if you need to get ready. They had security which made everyone feel safer & Michelle always checked to see the party running smoothly a true professional. Everything is straight to the point they even had designate spaces for our vendors, their daughter also helps out she made our dessert look beautiful. They truly are a one stop shop if you don't want to go looking for your vendors they already have everything available which I love so you don't have to stress about anything. They pay really close attention to detail, everything was perfect! Heads up, a long and deserving review for KH. We just had our daughter's 1st birthday party here at Kabayan Hall and we are truly so blown away with the service we received. We had our son's first birthday DRIVE BY at kabayan Hall and we loved them so much that we HAD to come back for our daughter's 1st birthday and they did not disappoint! The venue- absolutely beautiful. Their simplicity and "clean look" makes the perfect canvas for ANY theme. The venue was very clean, including the bathrooms and kitchen. The venue holds a very good amount of people plus enough room for vendors as well! The owners, Michelle and Derek, are such amazing and genuine people. They truly went above and beyond to make sure our daughter had a memorable and beautiful first birthday. We took advantage of their "one stop shop" and Michelle took the lead and took care of EVERYTHING which is exactly what I wanted. I told her my vision of what I wanted and she exceeded it! We absolutely loved their new service, their kids soft play area! Highly recommend adding it to your package! It was the perfect addition to our party and I'm so happy that kabayan hall offers it exclusively to their clients! It was so clean and very colorful! The kids enjoyed being in there and there was so much to do! We also enjoyed their photobooth service. Their daughter who was the photobooth attendant was so sweet and spoke so kindly to all of our guests. We also loved that it was unlimited prints therefore our guests could all have a copy! We also got the balloons and Photo Booth package which was perfect! Michelle also helped book a balloon twister and face painting person for me so that I didn't have to worry about it. Derek and Michelle was easy to talk to and very sweet family along with their daughter, very honest, hard-working, professional, and family oriented. Wow thats a lot of 1 star reviews all probably from the same party. I guess sh*t hit the fan that day lololol. Anyways i attended a party there and i helped with the set up and break down. It was a lunch party. The venue is a spacious place and its very nice. I would expect that much because i heard how expensive this place is. Parking is a bit small but luckily our party wasnt too big. And the restrooms were clean, but they only have 2 single stalls. They have more restrooms in the adjacent building, but you have to ask security to use it and it does appear to be in need of "work" especially after using the gamlourous single stalled toilets. The amenities were clean and the staff was pretty friendly. We didnt encounter any problems for the most part, but they staff didnt seem to go out of their way before the party started. Like i said i was not the host, but it just seemed that way. Everything was set up prior to the party though so i guess the staff didnt need to do much more. What i didn't care for too much was the kitchen. It was a bit small, but we made it work. The serving station area is also a bit small and your guest will get very crowded in the food area, especially with buffet style serving. They do provide entertainment packages like photobooths face painting, etc but they arent very skilled at their jobs. It is all done by the company and the staff didnt have a lot of training or artistic skills for that matter. Overall its a very nice place but way over priced. read more

Pros: Beautiful venue, very clean & aesthetically pleasing, & the family who owns this venue were very nice (Especially their oldest daughter!) Cons: I felt like it was a little hard to enjoy the party at times because I felt like the owners were "hovering" to ensure all the rules were being followed & what not. However, My biggest issue was with the security guards. It's required to have them when you're allowing alcohol at the party. It was a man & woman at the time, who were just very rude to some my guests yet kept asking my aunty & uncles to make them plates of food & all that. Our party was awhile ago so maybe the security guards have changed since then. The only other thing is if you hire outdoor vendors, you only have from 3:30pm-5:00pm to setup, which wasn't enough time at all - for we had big balloon arches, balloon centerpieces, a live band, etc. Thankfully my family is super helpful & was able to assist all the vendors in whatever they needed. I don't know if the short time frame is supposed to encourage guests to book with the owner's decorative services? Overall though they're a small, local & family-owned business & I always hope those will thrive in Hawaii. So although I don't think I would ever book their again, it may be a great fit for other families. read more

The Kabayan Team is so nice and generous and loved the decoration that they've put out. I was surprised when they've given out certain decoration out and I thought it would just be balloons LOL. I've never posted anything negative about someone's business before because I know how important it is to run a business. To be self efficient, to be reliable, respectful, responsible, as entrepreneur. It's hard and difficult and you need the heart and compassion to do so. Derek Murakami of Murakami Production and Michelle both owners of Kabayan Hall. You both made me write this horrible review of the threat, the harassment, and the verbal abuse you've said to my children and handicap husband. YOU Mr. Murakami wanted to attack my husband on crutches knowing he has only one leg. YOU Mr. Murakami, chased after my son-in-law and yelled and harassed him when he was driving out of your parking lot with his crying babies. What were you intentions to do, harm him, my grand babies (1yr and 4yr). Gosh, I can't believe what you both tried to do to harm my family. Furthermore, YOU Mr. Murakami threaten to shut down my grandson's 1yr birthday party when family and friends just began to celebrate his birthday. Did you truly have the heart to do something like that in front of ALL our family and friends. YOU BOTH (owners) stayed the whole night at the party patrolling everything (WHY?) What's the reason of hiring security/bodyguards at your parties? It seems to me you folks are very controlling and deceiving people. Walking around with your contract agreement in tow to make your clients accountable for what you see then at the end of the night, charge them by not reimbursing their deposit of $500. How disappointing! I believe You folks don't know how important it is to build clientele. Clientele comes from the parties at your venue. When you make your clients happy, you'll be blessed right back. All the guest who attended our party would have been interested to hold their venue their. My daughter, whose been a professional event coordinator for a very long time, would have offered your venue to her clients. Like I said earlier, people need to be respectful, responsible and reliable for their actions. To be fair and honest, the venue is spacious and nice, however, fair and nice should not be even granted to the owners of this venue. Our family had their sons 1st birthday party there this past weekend. Which was supposed to be a joyful and happy celebration, which turned into issue after issue. We were setting up the center pieces (grease themed party) which consisted of glass coke bottles. The owner stopped us (after watching us set up FIVE tables) and told us no glass allowed, so she tried to explain that it wasn't for consumption, but basically as party favors. He was Unbelievably condescending, his tone, body language, as if trying to intimidate her! He told her "it's in the contact, don't you do this for a living?" Ao she told him, the contract says NO LIQUOR BOTTLES, these are not going to be consumed. Still, he offered no compromise, no sincerity, absolutely nothing but attitude and intimidation. Now we're setting up the food and kitchen. We already know that no cooking wasn't allowed, so we bought warmers. The outlets did not work! Mind you, the owners were present the whole time, seen us trying to figure out it it was the warmer or extention cord that did not work, only when we asked, the wife said "oh, it doesn't work"! So again, we had to figure out how to get the food warm (we had to take the warmers back into the kitchen every half hour to plug it in to a outlet that actually worked! Coming to the end of the night, we're all cleaning up, trying to be out of the venue by 10:30pm. Which we were. We did everything the wife asked of us. Where to put trash, what needs to be taken out etc. And what was odd was the owner was pushing to have everyone leave the parking lot by 10:30 (which he has absolutely no control over) but made sure his Security was present, for intimidation purposes of course. And he had a reason, he wanted all friends and family gone so he could BULLY the parents that threw the party, telling them they won't get their deposit back because of this and that. And on top of that, he bullied a handicapped kupuna! (Video footage is available). He made countless accusations without ANY proof to back them up. They claimed they have video footage, but did not show it! (if you book here, they'll sit in room and watch the video cameras all night and you'll see them walking around your party too!) So if you're there the ENTIRE night, and so called seen "rules" being broken, why not immediately address the situation, to rectify it? Or is that not what the security is there for? Why wasn't the security doing their jobs? They will be fighting to have every negative review taken down, I know that for sure, but If you want a party that's MICROMANAGED, owners that bully you, that are condescending, disrespectful, then this is definitely the place for you read more

Don't be deceived by this venue!!! At first when we arrived, I was very impressed by the way the place looked and it was clean. However, as we started to set up, we ran into some issues with all of the power outlets not working properly (and they knew, but never said anything) as well as poor customer service. They were very unprofessional about it! As the night went on they said a few people didn't follow the rules (no actual proof), but it was never brought to anyone's attention. We realize that the rules are the rules, and it was announced multiple times throughout the night as reminders to the guests. What is the security guards there for if they cannot do their job in the parking lot and notify us if people are not listening. I'm not sure what company was used, but they were very rude and unprofessional as well. For the amount of money spent on the venue everything should've been working including security. We tried to make the best of what we had and they still tried to keep our friend's deposit. There are plenty better locations for better prices...do your research so you are not caught in the same predicament! read more

Horrible management. My family had a party there for their baby's 1st birthday, and absolutely ruined their representation of what a "great business" is with how it was mishandled by management. Watch the video posted below by my family and see for yourself how they were treated by manager Murakami. My cousins father, kewalos shark attack survivor, was being mocked by murakami, and held the conversation in an unprofessional manner. Murakami, you mentioned in another client's review how that family should know how to run a business. You also mentioned how my family should know how a business is ran. Here you are, clearly not knowing how to run your OWN business. How about you fix yours before coming at others? Very unprofessional of you don't you think? "I'm not like you", stated by Murakami in a mocking way while coming at my handicapped uncle. Clear representation of exactly that. My uncle is NOT like you. He has one leg, you have two!! He has class, you have none!! My family will always hold themselves accountable. It's people like you, Murakami, are what clients don't like to see when searching for venues for their future event. Despite all the negative reviews of this place, I decided to give it chance & create my own opinion. I honestly was impressed with the fact that this place is a "one stop shop" & the owners practically take care of everything. But convince is not free right? A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I decided to walk the venue as we are planning our daughter's first birthday party. Got to the venue, and the owner Michelle was perfectly nice. Walked us through the whole venue, and tbh we LOVED it. It was clean, nice big space that could fit our loved ones. She let us know about the $1000 deposit to secure the date & that the rest of the amount is due 2 weeks prior to the event. So I let Michelle know, we will be in touch after we talk about our budget. A week goes by and we decided we wanted to throw her birthday there. I text Michelle to let her know, and she immediately calls me to text her the information of my event. But while she has me on the phone, she lets me know there is an additional $500 security deposit that is due with the remaining balance of my bill. I thought it was weird that she didn't tell me about this when I was first walking the venue. But it was refundable and I thought "well you pay a security deposit anywhere so I get it". A few days later, (at 230 am) she sends me over the invoice & contract. Now, if you're an ADULT you're not going to sign off on a contract without fully reading it, and asking questions on certain things on said contract. I had work that morning that she sent me the contract, so my boyfriend and I didn't get to fully read it together until that night. So the next morning, I reached out to her to speak about some things I had questions about the contract. (Some of the things on there are kinda outlandish, NGL) No response. I figured she's busy... it's been A WHOLE ASS WEEK. No response. I just don't understand how you can run your business like that? Sure I may have took a day to read the contract but you decide to not even a simple reply? "Oh I'm busy right now, but I can speak to you at this time". Just any communication would have been nice.. If you own a business, you shouldn't leave your clients hanging like that. I already had a sour taste in my mouth for not being transparent about ALL of the fees. also, wtf is this MINIMUM of 2 security per event and $250 PER GUARD. An extra $500 on top of the $5000 just to rent the space? I'm honestly not one to complain on yelp, but damn. All that money being spent by people here... all the money I was ABOUT to spend at this place. -$5000 for venue -$500 security -$500 security deposit (refundable IF they decide that you don't have excessive rubbish or your guest don't follow the rules) A lot of hidden rules in the contract that I was not very fond of. Of which, I would have been open minded about IF THERE WAS ANY COMMUNICATION. That being said - don't waste your time or your money. You can def find a cheaper option else where. read more

Kabayan Hall is a one-stop shop. Michelle reassured us that it'll be a stress-free party. She coordinated everything, from Venue, Stage decorations, Photo-booth, Candy Buffet, Entrance Arch, Bubble House, Table, and Chair covers, to reaching out to vendors for us for the catering and the photography. She was also the Emcee/Singer(she has a beautiful voice btw) and her Husband Derek was our DJ. She made our dream birthday party for our Little one possible and went above and beyond. The owners of this hall are bullies! I strongly advise you to not book this hall. I am an event coordinator and have never in my entire career experienced harassment like this from a venue. They shove their contracts in my face when there is any sign of "wrong doing" I understood there is a no glass bottle policy for beverage service and no liquor policy so I brought my own canned beverages. I did bring glass coke bottles as table decor/part favors and the owner Derek came up to me and said glass bottles aren't allowed in the hall. I told him that they are party favors and people will not be consuming it in the hall it's for them to take home. I didn't know that glass bottles weren't allowed for decorations I thought it was just for the bar. Instead of nicely explaining why they are strict with the no glass bottle policy he proceeds to tell me "It's in your contract.. Don't you do this for a living!" In a very condescending way. All night he harassed my mom threatening to shut our party down. Telling my mom your daughter is a wedding planner shouldn't she know better. Constantly rubbing it in our face that I'm an event planner and I should know better. And comparing me to his wife who is an event planner. At the end of the night they tried to take my $500 deposit for all kinds of things claiming people were smoking and drinking in their parking lot, people were sneaking in liquor, etc. but isn't that what your security is for? Why didn't your security address those situations right away and told those people to stop. Instead you wait until the end of the night and then tell me that? Doesn't make sense.. and with the no proper evidence of these claims. Plus, they were supposed to refill trash bins all night but I had to send someone out to find them and tell them to do it. Half of their outlets didn't work in the hall making it difficult for me to run food warmers, cotton candy machine, and popcorn machine that they knew in advance that I would have. The owners and security stand outside all night and watch everything. Shame on you for running an unfair event space. This was my child's 1st birthday and you want to take $500 from us for absolutely nothing wrong happening during the entire event. Our Ohana had their son's 1st birthday day here, it's a nice, clean venue- but that doesn't matter when the owners- Derek & Michelle Murakami have bad customer service. They tried to use intimidation & accusations to not give back their $500 deposit. As we & the vendors were setting up, we noticed that some outlets were not working! & when we asked Michelle about it, she was aware it wasn't working but failed to mention that before hand so that we could plan accordingly. Throughout the night I noticed the trash was still full- they were suppose to keep an eye on that, so we had to go look for them to ask them to change the trash. At the end of the night we asked Michelle if there was anything else we needed to do before we left. She told us the boxes couldn't be where we had them & to break them down & put them on the side of the dumpster by the trash bags because the dumpster was locked, so we did. Our friends were ready to sign out but was told everyone else besides them 2 needed to leave first. So we left. That's when they tried intimidate them 2 by bringing the both of them into the hall & that's when they were told they would not be getting their $500 deposit back while their 2 big security guards stood behind our friends. You guys tried to bully & intimidate our Ohana for $500 on top of the $5000 they already paid for the venue! Instead of bringing up the issues during the party w/ them or correcting those people who were accused of "sneaking" alcohol & smoking in their parking lot at the time of said incident, they waited til the end of the party, after they told our friends everyone had to leave before checking/signing out so that they could try to intimidate them w/ their big security guards. NO PROOF of anything except he said, she said. Derek was also mad that he had to put the broken down boxes & trash into the dumpster himself when his wife Michelle is the one who said to leave it on the side of the dumpster because the dumpster was locked! The owners are reporting all the negative reviews because a few of the reviews our Ohana posted were taken down. We would like to thank Kabayan Hall for making our daughter's 1st birthday one that we will never forget! We didn't know the first steps in planning a birthday party since we lived in the mainland but they made it really easy for both me and my husband. I'll begin with our very first phone call. She personally answered and already knew what we were looking for and knew the best vendor recommendations for the birthday party. I loved that it took a lot of the work off of me! She also offered a walkthrough and after getting off the phone with her, we were impressed so we hired her immediately and feel so blessed that we did! We were hesitant to book with Kabayan Hall since we lived in the mainland but Michelle stayed in touch with us thru calls/texts and made sure everything was set up the way we desired. And plus we only met Michelle on the day of the event! She was super attentive during the party and ensured our event went smoothly. All of our guests had a great time. We just celebrated our daughter's 1st birthday party here at Kabayan Hall. I knew this was the perfect venue. It's clean, air conditioned which is a plus and not too big or small. It's perfect for any event and I'm so grateful that I found this amazing venue on google. It's also a 5 minute drive from my home. Michelle and her family are so accommodating and will help you with anything you need to make your celebration easier and joyful. I'm the type of person that wants to do everything herself lol. I had to learn the hard way. Although it was a lot of work, the party was a success and everything turned out beautiful I especially loved the slideshow which Yumi (Michelle's daughter) helped put together. We left that night tired but a good tired. I still can't stop crying at how beautiful it turned out!! My next event, I'm just going to hire Michelle to take care of everything. Such a beautiful place to hold events at but SO DISAPPOINTED with the owner, management, and the way my nephews entire event was handled!! They were walking on eggshells all night! I mean it was only 5pm when my aunty was getting yelled at outside for people drinking outside the venue. With no proof!!! Mind you it was a smaller party, we could see exactly who was breaking the rules if any, so we asked for proof or WHO to talk to, and no response!! They had 3 HUGE security guards in that small parking lot ALL NIGHT so what are they there for if they were gonna keep bugging and threatening to shut down the party?! Mind you they confronted my aunty, she wasn't even throwing the party. They also made her sign the contract ONLY because she was there to set up first, my cousin arrived 10 minutes later, they couldn't wait! It was so frustrating to see such an amazing party end up this way due to the owners of the venue. My cousins put their life savings into this party and to to top it off, they got stopped AFTER everyone left to be told their deposit was going to be taken away! Mr. Murakami also came after my handicapped uncle! They stood outside the party and watched us the entire time, it was very y comfortable knowing they were looking for any little thing to charge them for. Parties at Kabayan Hall are honestly one for the books. My family enjoys the parties we have with them in which Ate Michelle and Kuya Derek are in charge of. They have been with us since the beginning, and in the future, I will for sure have more of my family have their parties here. Not only is the venue beautiful, but the owners and their kids are also wonderful people. They help us in any way we could think of. What so great working with them is that they made sure to work it out if we have a limited budget, not like other , they give us a lot of options to see within our limits. It's fun having parties with them! They're so cool.. kuya Derek says a lot's of jokes to ease all the stress. It's tiring but worth it, and you will leave the hall with a smile on your face, In my opinion, kabayan hall and Murakami productions are great to have any kind of party. My niece had a party at this place and it was terrible, this guy murakami goes after my handicapped brother in law, braddah no go after a handicap person come after a real man, these owners are terrible, terrible terrible, very bad management. Hanging around the party the whole time looking for things to argue about and then lie about things that never happened, this was a loving family's baby's first birthday party, this clown murakami was arguing and complaining about his personal life issue. Braddah my brother in law almost lost his life, the world knows about it, he was the one who was attacked by a shark at kewalo's and this murakami clown went after him for no reason, on top of this ? Nice decent place to throw a party, but the owners kept coming in and out watching us. And also doing showings as our party is going on, we rented it for the whole day, I expect them to respect our privacy and do showings another day not while we're having our party. As we were cleaning up we had a few balloons up at the ceiling, we were getting ready to take them down but the security guard told us we didn't need to grab them and they were going to take it down for us. So we continued cleaning our rubbish and overheard the owner counting the balloons "$100,$200,$300..." so we stopped the owner and asked if she was counting the balloons and informed them that the security guard had told us it was okay and we could leave it. Don't even get me started on the security guards, every person that would drive in they kept asking for invitation. Like who in the world would crash a baby shower, this isn't a graduation party. Kabayan Hall and Murakami Productions is a great place to have your party. Whether it be a graduation party, a debut, baby shower, 1st birthday party, etc. I had my Debut and Graduation Party at this place under the guidance of Ate Michelle and Kuya Derek. Everything went smoothly in regards to the games, photo booth, decorations, emcee, DJ, and so much more. They have a set price for everything they do under their brochures and so much more, that it was worth it for the amount paid for the party. My party was one of the best days of my life since Ate Michelle and her family did a great job of planning and making my dream party come to life. I even recommended their venue and party planning to my aunties and uncles that my family had my cousin's party at the same location in which they were also in charge of. Just like my party, everything went smoothly and everyone had a lot of fun. Not only that, people felt safe and secured during the party since there were guards outside ensuring that we were all safe and was having a blast. Overall, I recommend this place to everyone because Kabayan Hall and Murakami Productions is not only a beautiful venue, Ate Michelle, Kuya Derek, and their children are amazing at throwing parties for such a great price!! It's disappointing how the owners would comment back LIES on those who did reviews on them. It's yelp for a reason. As the person of the party... I threw my baby shower there &' the owners did NOT ask us if it was okay to bring OUTSIDERS &' do a SHOWING while our event was HAPPENING. Mind you, you folks did 3 SHOWINGS. My parents thought they were guest &' kept coming to me, telling me to greet them.. when I didn't know those people. As for the "Bad things" that occurred at our event that your referring to.. which was the smoking. Those 2 people walked away from the event to do &' we had to pay EXTRA for! It wasn't even on the premises of yours that you owned. &' for the security guards, we were grateful for them. But the owners did not allow them to take a break or have a snack at least. We offered the security guards to eat &' make food, but the owners would not allow them to. The owners cited us for every little thing.. like they were trying to get more MONEY out of us. I had my event there for the whole day &' paid $5000 &' a bit more for whatever citations there were trying to make. read more
