This is a dear former colleague of mine where I saved the date. When I formally received the invitation I saw the venue and asked myself "Where is that?" Oahu Veterans Center (OVC) is a conveniently located venue in the Salt Lake area which has 2 large halls to host gatherings. They are adjacent to ample parking where it was super crowded that day but the grounds were marked to facilitate overflow of cars for those who arrived later. It was my first time here at OVC where I found the venue spacious, clean and the grounds well kept. I initially went to the wrong party as I didn't know there are several halls here. While standing in line I realized it was for a high school graduation party which clearly wasn't the event I was invited to. I made my way to the other hall where I saw a large banner with my friend's name. There's a kitchen that's adjoining to the hall. Food that evening was catered by Guieb Cafe. Our meal was buffet style where the kitchen sure came in handy with food being replenished periodically throughout the event. It was warm outside that day but the venue has decent air conditioning where we sat down in comfort throughout the event during dinner, slide show and hula performances. Overall, a great first time at OVC where I'd be game for a return visit. This is definitely a venue I'd consider if I wanted to host an event.

This one is located in the salt lake area and the name is Oahu Veterans Center the other off sand island is the Disabled Veterans Center. We were surprised when we got there it has a park and large parking area. The hall is air conditioned and the hall was clean with large restrooms located outside of the hall. They brought in their own food and pupu and they had shave ice, pop corn, cotton candy, pork hash and full bar! Restroom was clean and handicap accessible.

We come for the Sunday Brunch Buffet but my office recently had our Christmas party here and the staff did a fabulous job, everything was awesome. I also here the Mongolian BBQ on Thursday night is pretty good, have not tried it yet but will. Recommend make a reservation for the Brunch Buffet (10-1pm) to ensure that you have a table when you arrive. They have lots of options but don't pass on the prime rib and crab legs, both delicious. They also have eggs to order and will make any omelette you can think of. Lots of desert options as well. The service is excellent, all the servers are helpful and attentive. You can tell they work hard and are focused on customer service, please tip them well. Wondering if perhaps it used to be the Teacher Store. This room is yours to host your guests. This celebration has a live band, active bar, set up for pupus. A photo area was perfect to catch the memories of attending guests. To me the chairs are pretty cramped at 10 white chairs per long table unless you are petite. There are also 2 sections close to the entrance with black rectangular configurations. The entrance to the venue is on the street side not by the theaters. Hawaiian food was catered. They also had sheet cakes and desserts. There was a No Host bar for alcohol but they provided tickets one per guest for a jumbo size non alcoholic beverage. There are restrooms on the right side wall from the entrance. Stage area for a band or entertainment. Separate food serving on right of bar.

We catered our food from someone else. Guest got 5 hours of validated parking at Dole Cannery. We had about 130 adults and 20 children from infant to 7 years old. The way our tables were set up seating between tables was a little tight. There's a nice size stage for a band to play as well as a large screen that we used to play a video off of. Bathrooms are kinda tight, but relatively clean. We had a bouncer at the door courtesy of the venue due to us using the bar for our event. Those who were drinking alcohol were ID and given a band. Where the bouncer sat and where our reception table was in the entrance did not seem to be air conditioned. Idk though if it was also because we had to leave the door open, but the rest of the venue was nice and cool. We used their other venue last year that was in Ward (bside). No longer open due to knocking the building down for high rises. Communication is definitely not their strong suit I would say.. as it takes them a while to respond or even get in-touch with. After they finally got back to us about the date we choose there was no other confirmations until the day of in person. There are a couple or outlets if you want to bring a radio or rice cooker ;) And you can't have rice without having some kind of meat. There's two stationary grills on property. The trash is taken out by management when you turn the keys back in and pick up your deposit. I believe the deposit is $250. There are bathrooms in the back. No porta potties thank God. No real flying creatures to stanch your food and plenty of fresh air. You will get the occasional roar of a plane engine since the runway is close by and sometimes you see a naval ship just off the coast heading out or doing maneuvers. Overall five stars. The scenery is beautiful and he can't beat the price. M

Foster Point Peninsula on Hickam AFB is the absolute worst place for a picnic lunch! Please don't…read morego there. It is so ugly! It is surrounded on three sides by pristine azure waters... YUCK! You can see the skyline of Honolulu and the silhouette of Diamond Head... so horrific! Nearby sail boats gently rock to small waves on the aforementioned pristine azure waters... you do not want to see this! There is no comfortable place to sit and eat. There are only maybe a dozen clean tables from which to choose: some in the shade, some in the sun, and some are under a pavilion to use in the unlikely event it rains during your picnic... Don't take the chance! Today during lunch (well, for the first few minutes) I had to share the peninsula with one other picnicker. Sure he was like 40 yards away, but you shouldn't have to put up with this! And the wind! Today it was so blustery that it threatened to blow my napkin off the table... not once, but TWICE! Oh and it is so noisy... did I mention the sail boats and the waves? Well, they're not silent, ya know! They make this monotonous "lap-lap-lap" sound that might drive you crazy! And you'd be dining only a couple miles from the airport. So as you watch the lumbering jets lift off gracefully into the sky, you can actually hear them. .. It's horrendous! It so far out of the way! It takes minutes and minutes (maybe as many as five) to drive out there from the base proper.... Don't waste your valuable time! So in short, take my advice: Do not put up with ugliness, then uncomfortable conditions, the noisiness, and the long long ride out to Foster Point Peninsula for a picnic lunch! It's just not worth it. But if you do, you'll likely see me there enjoying my picnic lunch; and if you do, feel free to wave. But try to keep your 40 yards separation! ;-)

wow just wow!!! must visit, fun for the whole family. we've…read morecelebrated both my boys 10th bday here. the obstacle course is so much fun. the food is delicious plus coffee and bar with a great view and table hang out. but most importantly THE STAFF is outstanding! The customer service is 5 stars! I had a little Hiccup with my plans and they were so kind and understanding and helped me through it with grace and kindneas. Leah was one of our helpers thank you Leah for making my little dudes birthday magical.

I have tried to come to Wai Kai 3 times in the last two months…read more Reserved a 5pm surf session with a friend and got a call a few hours prior saying that we were the only people who are scheduled and canceling our session because we didn't have a minimum of 5 people. My daughter wanted to come to the obstacle course with her friends. We showed up at 4pm on a Friday, they said the girls can't swim because they close at 430pm. We decided to come back at 1:30pm the next day to arrive and be told the entire place is booked for a private event. Don't waste your time. Go beach.

I would have to say...the perfect venue, even if the wind kicks up a bunch like it did this past Saturday. Brewfest began at 6pm and went on until 9pm with one ticket price of $70 giving unlimited access to both beverages and foods. Many of the restaurants participating even did a beer food pairing which was a great way of experiencing this event. Food booths hosted this year by: Auntie Pasto's in Kunia, Off the Wall in Aiea Pearl Kai, Taniokas in Waipahu, Kona Brewing Company, and the newest restaurant to open in Ko'Olina...Monkeypod by Merriman's. Food was fabulous ranging from deep fried jumbo shrimp and calamari (Auntie Pasto's) to the BEST reuben sandwich and banana pie I have ever had (Monkeypod) to a delicious sauteed fish on a bed of ongchoy served with a fresh fruit salad and mango papaya cream puffs (Off the Wall) to spicy ahi sushi and garlic chicken (Tanioka's) to a delicious local beef meatball (Kona Brewing). Beverages included dozens and dozens of beer selections of course. I also saw some wine, some port, some bottled water being handed out generously. There was also a cigar booth hosted by R. Field. Does living get any better than this? Apparently yes, as the setting provided a beautiful grassy cove oceanfront hosting the most spectacular sunset I had seen in a long time. Live entertainment included a fashion show featuring designs by: Tiare Tiete and Swim Wear Designer, Honey Girl. Makings of a memorable evening...
