Incredible Indian food, even better service. This was one of the most over-the-top-six-stars meals we had on our Europe trip. Atmosphere is great, although a little loud. You have to walk down a flight of stairs to get to the dining room. We started off with the samosa tasting app, which was great. The chutneys were all great. Notably all-around less spicy than the Indian food I'm used to in the states. I ordered the trio of chickens as my entree, and a couple other people at our table got the biryani. My mom ordered a lamb, though, that was the star of the show. Fall off the bone, delicious. That would be on my must-try list. If you go to dinner anywhere in London - make sure you come here! This unassuming location on a side street of Belgravia is one of the best restaurants in london! Azim, our waiter, was incredibly informative and helpful in explaining the menu and suggesting different foods/wines/drinks for us to try. I even tried to get a few restaurant secrets from him, but he didn't spill. The Dawat tasting menu is everything and more. I was going back for seconds and thirds of the gujarati yellow pea chaat, the Karahi lamb masala, the chicken makhani, and the dal makhani. This was our last evening in London and the tail end of our three week UK travels. This restaurant was very near our hotel 11 Cadogan Gardens, and we thought this would be a good finale. Great choice! The place is under Chelsea housing and is rather unassuming from the street. A woman welcomed us at the door and sent us down a long staircase to the actual restaurant. It was not crowded when we arrived, so we were promptly seated. Our server explained the menu and suggested we each order something from three areas of the ala carte menu. His suggestions were superb. Our first course was scallops for my wife and squid and shrimp salad for me. Both were delicious. Next course was a broccoli dish for her and tandoori lamb chops for me. I have never had lamb so tender that I could cut it with a fork. Final course was a fish curry for my wife and a chicken curry dish our server recommended. Both outstanding. We paired the final course with butter naan and saffron rice. This was truly a gourmet Indian cuisine meal. Our server was very attentive and most helpful. I'll be honest, we accidentally found this true gem. We rolled in with our two kids, slightly underdressed, for what seemed like a solid date night spot. Really good band playing just the right type of music for the ambiance. It was a very warm and cozy atmosphere with great service and amazing food. As stated above, next time I'm bringing my wife on a night out and staying the whole evening for a solid meal and great atmosphere. You need to try it out. read more

This was absolutely one of the best meals I had in London. Think elevated South Asian cuisine, good enough to merit a Michelin star. Ya, I said it. We took our kiddo with us, and they were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Our waiter, Dave Raj, was so knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating. Ambiance was sexy, chill, and warm, and we were luckily tucked away in a corner booth for a private and relaxing dining experience. We shared a bunch of small dishes, and it was perfection: -Berry papdi chaat, spiced chickpeas with sweetened yogurt, wild berry & tamarind chutney. Crunchy, sweet, and spicy. - Samosa platter, Punjabi Aloo, kolhapuri chicken, Madras lamb. These were some of the flakiest samosas I've ever had. So buttery, and the veggie and chicken samosa legit made my mouth expode. My husband ordered the scallops and crab, and his taste buds blew up. Epic, he proclaimed. For our mains, we tried several items, sides, and naans: My husband enjoyed the smoked Malabar prawns and lamb chops, and called them otherworldly. - The trio of chicken tikka tandoor grilled chicken supreme with cream cheese, pickling spices & Rajasthani chops was solid, and sauce was bangin', I wouldn't order this again, but I'd ask for a bowl of the red pepper sauce. Yes, it was that good. The Hydrabadi Biryani was packed with veggies, mint, coriander, and other magical spices. I really enjoyed this. - Saag Paneer was disappointingly bland, and the paneer wasn't melt-in-your-mouth delicious. -Chicken Makhani, a tender and buttery chicken dish dressed in creamy tomato sauce was also bangin', and honestly delightful with buttery naan. * Jeera aloo was an interesting take. The potatoes appeared to be roasted and dressed with rich spices. It was a creative and inventive take. * Garlic naan & Cheese chilli naan-do yourself a favor and ordered these two for dipping and scooping. My fave was the garlic naan. To wrap things up, we enjoyed two desserts: raspberry couli (baked berry cheesecake) and chocolate delight which was a chocolate torte with mandarin ice cream. Both offered a delightful finish to our dining adventure. As far as mocktails, ask for the mango, passion fruit, mint, and lime libation. It's the best on the menu, trust me. Amazing Indian food in a quiet London neighborhood. It was almost unsuspecting as you walk up to the outside, because it looks like you are pulling up to someone's house. Which i'am sure was the case at some point. But no expense was spared in transforming this space in an upscale dining experience. I was with coworkers in London exploring the city all day not dressed for the occasion, but we still received the same high level of service as anyone else in the restaurant. I have travelled the world and spent time in India searching for the best Indian food I can find. Best Indian restaurant we've ever dined at. Each dish and accompaniment from the sauces, bread, to the entrees and dessert stood individually and when combined created a tantalizing mixture of spices that pleasured the tastebuds. The food is neither too heavy or light or spicy. It is well balanced and leaves you wanting more. Each dish is beautiful to look at, vibrant in color and taste. The atmosphere is relaxed with good wine, fun cocktails and jazz playing in the background. The service is quick, attentive and the servers are genuinely nice. I was traveling alone for business and it was might last night before returning to the US. My parents had lived in the area some 20 years ago so I took a trip down memory lane and then found this restaurant online. What a treat it was! The staff understood I was a business guy traveling alone, so they were almost extra friendly to me. I had an incredible cocktail that involved smoked tequila infused with Indian spices. And the entree was fabulous. It was recommended - a chicken dish and it did not disappoint. There was a nice vibe and they walked the line perfectly between high end and welcoming. Absolutely amazing experience at Chef Peter Joseph's newly opened Kahani This is a luxurious authentic Indian eating opportunity. The menu is diverse from different parts of the country, but the flavours of each dish were completely authentic to its origins with a few twists along the way. From the soft shell crab in Manglorean spices & the trio of samosas served with appropriate chutneys to the perfect sheekh kebabs, a black dhal almost achieving Bukhara standards, a yellow dhal my exacting father-in-law would approve of and the first biryani in a London restaurant that I actually enjoyed, the food was fantastic! Beautifully balanced in flavour and texture, I heavily recommend this restaurant that I would rate a perfect 5! The kulfi dessert was lovely, but my heart belongs to the chocolate gulab jamun confection that I ordered. My only criticism would be that the drinks are really small. I loved my spicy honeymoon mocktail, but it disappeared in 2 gulps. As did his whisky cocktail. The food however was superlative and service was lovely. read more

I was excited to try Kahani and it did not disappoint. Many exciting options on the menu so I took the path of least resistance and ordered the (meat) tasting menu. It was an excellent meal and they did the tasting menu perfectly, good timing between courses, each course unique while the spice largely increased throughout, portion size perfect so we were satisfied but not bloated. The highlights for me was the first course, grilled avocado, the sea bream and guinea fowl. I did not find the wine pairing as impressive. I love wine pairings where a sommelier (or knowledgeable waiter) provides background on the wine and explains why it was chosen for each course. Here, they largely just reminded me of the wine and poured. I also did not find the wines exceptional, not bad but not memorable. There were some service glitches you would find in a new restaurant, it was not as full as I would expect, but the wait staff was friendly, eager and personable. Recommended. read more

Superb meal as others have indicated. The place is a fantastic venue, excellent service, and the food is amazingly good. The downside is that they seem to use a lot of ghee here, which makes things taste creamier, but they are very rich. The dishes could stand a little more heat (compared to my favorites in the city). We ordered a la carte, and the best things were the broccoli, the dahl two ways, and the chaat (which is not called that on the menu). Absolutely delicious... by far one of my favorite restaurants in London! Everything from the food and wine list to the ambiance and service was perfect - great restaurant for a special occasion. Prices are reasonable for the high quality. We ordered a la carte, but Kahani also offers a wonderful theater and tasting menu. Some notable items include the char grilled scallops, butter chicken, lamb kebab, tandoori broccoli, and braised fragrant rice - all incredibly flavorful and artfully presented. The portions for the apps are small and I would treat these menu options as tapas, but main dishes were shareable though not large. Since the portions are smaller, I enjoyed tasting more of the menu items. Interesting contemporary spin on Indian food and truly a must try! read more
