    Veggie Sandwich (generous size)

Next door to Sitar on 21st in a space that has been many things previously. Park around back so you don't have to back out in traffic. Selection of coffees and teas, sandwiches, savory and sweet treats. I tried the signature (saffron) latte and veggie (with falafel hummus sauteed mushrooms and tomato avocado and lettuce and though they made a cute and colorful space outside I was too hot in the sun today and sat inside. Sweet staff and no big crowd at lunch (people don't know about it yet).

I've had this spot on my list since they opened. Today my friend and I decided it was time! We went when they opened. I don't really know where to start. The space is BEAUTIFUL!! I walked around in amazing at how everything just flowed. The decor reminds me of my home. Afro Boho. The vibes match! They were very nice and helpful. I ordered a few different things from the menu. Coffee: I had a 12 oz Spanish Latte w/ Oatmilk. (Level 3) Yes, they had sweetness levels and as someone who doesn't like extremely sweet coffee, this is perfect! I order this drink (Spanish Latte, Cuban, Vietnamese Coffee) at many local coffee shops and I also have perfected it at home. I'm not kidding when I say this is the BEST I've ever tasted. The coffee is good quality. Shots weren't acidic or bitter. I will definitely likely be making my way pretty often for this latte whenever I'm hitting a shop! Is it out of my way? Yes! But that's how good it was. It was so good that I ordered one for my foodie buddy to go and they were equally impressed! Also was able to try an iced caramel latte and it was very good! My friend had a pink lady matcha and enjoyed it as well. I ordered Veggie and Chicken Sambusas as well as a Kahawa Roll! Everything was delicious and made fresh! My favorite was the veggie one!! The playlist was also great and the volume was at a nice, conversational level. I would send anyone here who asks me where they should go for coffee!!! Hands down!!

Such a cute vibe to get a coffee. Loved all the options on the menu as well as the flaky delicious sambusa's! Super friendly and helpful staff. I ordered the Zanibar Dirty Chai and it absolutely hit the spot. Espresso and chai is so tasty. I'd definitely recommend someone to come here and grab a beverage and one of these sambusa's because it was SO delicious and flaky along with like this sweet chili sauce that accompanied!

Stepping in this spot instantly feels like you're transported to Africa! From the eye-catching decor to the extensive coffee + tea menu and Swahili street eats... this spot is definitely something special. Kahawa opens early and closes late during the week, which makes it a great spot for remote work, studying, or reading. They've also optimized the layout by separating it into a quiet zone and a more lively area with music. (PS- they also offer catering and event space rental so keep them in mind for your next event!) 120 N 21st Ave, Nashville, TN 37203 Velvet Vanilla Dream Latte (iced) Beef and veggie Sambusa FREE parking in front AND back of building!

Came across this place from tik tok one night and had to come try the next day. The entire vibe of the decor is what solidified my decision. Upon entry you'll pass outdoor seating with a few tables and chairs. On a pretty day this would be a great little meet up spot. When you enter in you're welcomed by art and artifacts of African culture, intimate lighting, and a semi safari experience. From the outside the space doesn't seem a big until you begin to wander. To the left you'll encounter safari like decor as if you were trekking through animal kingdom. To the right you'll come across a more open area with chairs and tables fit for your work+coffee shop day. They do offer free WiFi along with plenty of outlets for all of your electronic devices. Due to the intimacy of the area, be mindful of your volume when having conversations while others may be busy at work. Customer service is outstanding. I ordered the pink lady matcha which was GREAT. Along with the beef and chicken sambusas and Kahawa roll. I have absolutely No complaints. Ask for all 4 sauces to try with your sambusas and rolls. I will definitely be back. Be sure to go check them out. There is a sign posted to your left of the register which allows you to gauge your sweetness level for all of your beverage needs. Such a smart idea in my opinion to ensure each guest is accommodated adequately.

Bathroom. They have men's and women's signs but they're individual so just pick one.

I passed this coffee shop a few weeks ago and finally had time to swing by. I'm glad I did. They share a lot with Sitar and there is parking in the back. The patio is cute and will be a nice spot when it's warm. When you walk in, you're instantly transported to a very "African" place. It reminded me of the African land at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Overly themed and very busy. I'm a Disney person so that's not necessarily bad to me but I can definitely see it being overstimulating for others. I was not a fan of the animal heads in the hallway. Super creepy imo. Service was good. You order at the counter when you first walk in. The desserts in the case looked good but I wasn't in a mood for sweets. I ordered the Signature latte and my husband ordered a black drip. My latte was tasty but needed a touch more sugar and wasn't as hot as I like my drinks. Easy enough to fix for the next visit. We ordered 3 rolls. The Veggie, the Kahawa, and a roll with lamb and potatoes. The veggie was good but slightly bland. The hot honey sauce really helped it. The lamb and potato was good. But the Kahawa roll?? Amazing. Give me a whole plate full! I'm not a fan of mixing foods together but this was fantastic. It had beef, mac & cheese, and collard greens all in one roll. I was skeptical but now I want more. Prices were reasonable. Our two drinks and 3 rolls were under $25. Overall, I'll be back. I want to try the chai pot and check out some of the desserts.

I am absolutely in LOVE with this place. Now I have another reason to frequent Nashville. First of all, the signature latte was perf.. if ur too nervous to try something unique this is subtly seductive because of the Saffron. I had mine with oat milk.. bc I got dairy problems. Anyway, I also had the stone town hibiscus cold beverage and that was very refreshing. I also tried the beef and the chicken sambusas and they were perfect and so were the two sauces on the side the creamy one doesn't serve too much heat. The people working are so kind and I felt like I was transported into the motherland between the hospitality and decor it was just what my heart and palate needed.

What a wonderful little coffee shop! I am not a coffee drinker, but somehow Kahawa has a hold on me. Ive ordered the vanilla dream latte which has rose in it, twice. It's very strong coffee, had me buzzing in a good way. The staff is so kind and welcoming. The space is beautiful and cozy! An escape to another country. The veggie sambusas are delicious! I always order to go but I look forward to actually sitting down next time and enjoying the space. My only complaint is the bathroom has the worst smell, some type of sewer situation going on that needs to be fixed.

Super cute place to study. They have two sides. The left side is perfect for people who need to focus. There's no music, quiet, and water is running. Super calming! The right side is great if you're studying with friends. Parking is free!

Such a great coffee shop. There are several different spaces to hang out and a nice outdoor area with chairs for when the weather is nice. The vibe is fantastic. I ordered a Turkish coffee. It didn't taste like any Turkish coffee I've had in the past but it was delicious and I still liked it

So glad I checked this place out after driving by a couple of times and wondering what it was. Parking is behind the building, and they have a little outdoor patio in the front. Service at the counter was friendly and the Velvet Vanilla Dream Latte and Spanish Lattes were both sooo good. The African decor is eclectic and colorful, and there are two sitting rooms to choose from with different vibes. Will definitely be back to try some sambusas and more coffee!

It is Somali cuisine. Most of the dishes are a meat with either pasta or rice. I got the Goat with rice. They give you a pitcher of what seems like orange kool aid (sorry no disrespect). I can't really have sweets so I asked for a bottle of water. The staff members were friendly and accommodating. There is a sink on the outside of the men's room and I know in places like Afghanistan, they have these sinks to wash your hands because you eat with your hands - it is sunna to eat with your hands (spoons are also provided). They also have a little sectioned off area for people to pray in a similar way that places like House of Kebab have a prayer room. Everything is Halal and there seemed to be a fair amount of people in there. The rice was very flavorful. It reminded me of the rice at Al Rasoul or Osh. It had some raisin and red onion - the flavor combination was very delicious. The goat was as expected. The flavor was good, be wary of small bones. The cost may seem higher than expected but it was a LOT of food. I ate off it for the next several days. Also if you want to support a locally owned Somali business I recommend it.

Let me start out by saying the owner/server was SUPER friendly, and the food was not bad at all. However, here are some things to note. First, they aren't open according to the hours posted online (I believe they are only open 3 days a week now). Second, outside, the parking lot is full of cars with flat tires and there is an odd smell. Next, when you walk inside the restaurant, it is like a huge sort of abandoned ballroom with a deserted, empty bar, and many retro looking tables. A lot of the booths are hard to sit at because the table is so far from the actual seating. Initially, there was no one around at ALL, so we were confused on what to do, but then a man peeked his head out from a window at the very back of the room and told us to order there. We both just got the chicken egusi with fufu. If you dont know, fufu is a sort of playdough like food made out of pounded yam that you dip into stews and eat with your hands. Egusi a stew made of gourd seeds. He said it would take 10 minutes to come out but it actually took 25. We didn't mind too much, though. The food was PIPING hot when it came out, almost too much to touch. It also comes in to-go styrofoam containers. Each order got 2 wrapped logs of fufu and a container of chicken egusi. The egusi was pretty flavorful, and since I'm not an expert on it, I can't say much else, but it was good. The chicken legs were moist and flavorful as well, and we liked the texture of the fufu. It has a sort of very very mild potato-y taste to it, and it's great to take a piece with your hands and eat with the egusi. I just wish there were some more vibrant, striking flavors but the egusi was mostly nutty, which I'm assuming it is supposed to be. Overall, I think you should definitely come here if you want to try fufu and never have before, but be prepared for a slightly weird experience.

I assume that they're Eritrean (Habesha cousins of Ethiopians) because the names of my favorite dishes seem to be a different language from their Ethiopian counterparts' Amharic. But the flavor was never lost in translation! I ordered Combo # 3 for $18.99. It comes with your choice of 4 vegetables (out of 5 preselected options) and one salad (out of three preselected choices). The side choices are quinoa, injera, or white rice. I confirmed with them that they use teff, meaning the injera is gluten free. They also offer 3 spice levels: regular, spicy, and extra spicy. I love all five vegetable options so it was hard to decide. I ended up choosing the Red Lentils, Yellow Lentils, Tikil Gomen (the cabbage dish), and Collard Greens. Everything was excellent! 10/10! (Everything I ordered was vegan and gluten free.) I ordered spicy because I love spicy food. But let me tell you... I was not prepared for the authentic African spices they hit me with. My bad! I will never underestimate them again. I had to literally sit the injera on my tongue first, then put the food in my mouth in order to finish my meal. LOL Next time I'll be a good little American and order it the normal way. I'll try their fosolia (green beans and carrots) next time. The Shiro also looks good, but it's only available as a full entree. They operate out of a food hall, so it's take out only. I ordered online and my food was ready at the promised time. The customer service was excellent and the lady (whom I'm assuming was the owner) was very nice and helpful. I will definitely order from them again.
