Regular check-ups are always in fashion. We're have to stay ahead of our business, right?…read more Desmond Doss is friendly clinic and only once have I had to wait an obscene amount of time to be seen. Granted a new system was just put in place so growing pains were to be expected; can understand that. Anyway, helpful and knowledgeable staff and masks are still required for all clinics. The pharmacy staff are good people and super efficient. It's important to note there is a separate refill pharmacy over by the exchange. Even when there are a lot of people waiting for their Rx I'm rarely there very long.

I went it with the mindset that I would have to fight to have my issue dealt with appropriately and timely, which can be typical with military medical processes. I was worried that my concerns would get dismissed but Ms. Mary Ono (Family Medical Practitioner-Board Certification) listened to my issues, completed an exam, and referred me to two separate specialists to further evaluate my concerns. Before I left my appointment, she provided me with a contact list and instructions to contact the two specialty clinics she referred me to. If you are assigned to 8TSC clinic, I recommend Ms. Ono as PCM. Hopefully you get the same care I received today. Based on this visit, and a few others I have had with Ms. Ono, I believe there is some hope for military medical care. I will definitely annotate this on the JOES survey that I'm sure I'll be getting soon asking about my visit.

But I'm honestly grateful that I have another insurance option, because right after being treated here, I ended up needing to go to another urgent care. I felt like the provider wasn't truly listening to what I was saying and very dismissive. I came in with a level 3 sprain and was on wheelchair and crutches. I simply asked for a work note excusing me for a few days because my job as a circulating nurse requires full mobility. There is no "light duty." You either function 100% or you don't -- patients' safety depends on it. When I explained this, the provider told me to "just walk it off, stop baby-ing it. I fell yesterday. I tried to clarify that in the OR, if a surgeon urgently needs blood, medication, or an instrument, I cannot safely do my job while limping on crutches. His response was, "Well then you'll run it off with your sprain." I went to the nearest urgent care and was given an ankle boot and 5 days rest period. I work with many physicians, and it was incredibly disappointing to feel dismissed like that -- especially knowing that many military families have no choice but to see this provider. I truly wish there were additional providers at this facility, because the rest of the team really is wonderful.

I just moved here from the mainland and was in need of a pediatrician. The folks at Kapiolani were kind enough to find one close to home and schedule my newborn's two day checkup for me. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. My daughter's appointment was a day after we were discharged from the hospital. That morning I received a call from an idiot that could barely speak English, telling me that my daughter wasn't covered under my insurance yet. Of course not, moron, she was just born two days ago. I would have to pay $110. My daughter still needed a checkup so I still kept the appointment. Then, I ask the girl for the address because I misplaced it. In the worst accent ever, "Do you know the Jack in the Box on California?" Look, I don't do FOB directions. Give me a bloody address!!! She couldn't or wouldn't even do that. Ugh! Of course, I couldn't find the place. I wasted time driving around until I found it. My meeting with Dr. Perlas was just as annoying. After pressing on my daughter's belly extremely hard, he says he noticed my daughter had mild signs of jaundice. I told him she had blood drawn the day before and Kapiolani will notify me if there's anything alarming. He insists on sending me to retest her at the ghetto Wahiawa hospital. Not happening! When I try to pay for this terrible experience, they tell me cash only. WTF? You couldn't have told me that prior to my appointment? I knew they were closing and made them wait while I drove to my bank. I was not going to get hit with ATM fees because you're all morons! When I get back with cash, the fools don't even have change. Eff word! Because this office is unbelievably incompetent and unwilling to listen to me, I will never return! I now have the BEST pediatrician I've ever had for my three babies.

Recently I broke my leg while vacationing in Hawaii. I broke my fibula and tore an ankle ligament…read more After being seen at the emergency room I was scheduled to have surgery the next day with Dr. Cecilio for an (Open Reduction Internal Fixation) ORIF. In other words, pins and screws placed to get the bones together and restore the anatomical correctness of the joint (Ankle). I went to the hospital the next day. Dr Cecilio explained to me that he will only place a long pin (Steinman), stitch up the ligament and everything will be fine. Got through the surgery and got kicked out the same day in a cab back to my resort. I went to Dr. Cecilio's office for a post op visit a week after surgery. His office is located in the second floor. Musty old furniture, loud TV and a secretary texting is what you find. I waited a good 30 minutes and not a patient in sight. So I just waited because they probably enjoy patients waiting around. His cast room was filthy and there was nothing you can rest your leg on while being casted. Before the cast dried up his assistant came back with a bill: $6700 that she asked me to pay before leaving. I explained to her that I had insurance and that I just got off the phone with them: I don't have to pay a penny out of pocket. She insisted that I have to pay and settle it with the insurance!! I took a look at the bill and it said Insurance: $6700 / Patient: $0. That was fishy. I didn't pay him and I wish my insurance doesn't pay either for a lousy service. Flew back to boston where I am from and got an appointment at MGH with an orthopedic surgeon. Had xrays and as soon the the new doctor saw them he blushed and bit his lips very hard. I asked him what was going on and he said: NOT GOOD, YOUR BONES WERE NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY, YOU FIBULA IS HEALING WELL BUT IT'S 2 CENTIMETERS SHORTER THAN THE TIBIA AND YOU WILL HAVE A LIMP FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE AND EVENTUALLY OSTEOARTHRITIS. WE HAVE TO FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY. That was the longest sentence I have ever heard in my life. Dr. Cecilio screwed the bones wrong. I went online and read all night about my case. The only treatment is to place a "plate and screws" not a Steinman pin. I got angry and the lost 3 weeks in a cast. The long nights of pain, the fact that I wasn't hospitalized for a night or two in order to control the pain, the fact that I wasn't prescribed aspirin for blood clotting prevention, ... 3 waisted weeks in a cast and having to undergo a second surgery is just wrong. Now I am all fixed up and my bones are lined up correctly. My advice, avoid Dr. Cecilio at all cost.
