Everyone that cared for me in the back took really good care of me and very kind made sure I was ok before I left as well as making sure my ride was out front. Took my 91 year old mom to get a colonoscopy. The staff was nice and all but what I didn't care for was the doctor. After the procedure was done and she was recovering, he calls me on my phone and tells me that she has colon cancer!!! WTF kind of 'bedside' manner is that?! Being told your loved one has cancer, over the phone?? I asked him where he was, he said he was in the parking lot. I told him that I want to talk to him in person, so he came back in to talk with us. I was so upset and really flabbergasted that a doctor would say this over the phone. I would never recommend this place. Maybe it's just another procedure to him, but he should stop and think that she is a mom and a loved family member. Come on Doctor, do better!! read more

Someplace to highly consider when you turn 50+ When you're like me and reach this stage, ya gotta do these "procedures ", and every 10 years after that. I think the day before prep at home is the harder part, and the colonoscopy is the easier one! This place made it easy- my PCP referred me to this place, then after making a phone call, they scheduled me right after receiving the proper paperwork. Emailed specific, clear instructions on what I needed to do on the day before the procedure and followed up with a couple of phone call. So I showed up 60 min before my scheduled time, filled a 2 page admission form, then shortly after, was whisked in to get changed and my IV put in. Then right before my scheduled time , the anesthesiologist came to get me, explained what she will be doing, asked about past experiences in other surgeries, then wheeled me to the room. Got positioned, then got told "okay, you might feel a little warmth in the IV and feel drowsy. " Next thing I know, I'm waking up in recovery about 40 min after... all done! Then someone showed me a report, what they found, then had me change back to my regular clothes. Less than 60 min after my scheduled time, I'm out of there and going home! So they are fast, friendly and efficient, and someplace where I don't have to drive all the way into town from 'Mauka. A def repeat in 10 yrs from now! read more

Pacific Endoscopy Center-6 stars. Prepping for colonoscopy the day before-0 stars. About 3 months ago, I booked my very first colonoscopy. Shortly after I booked it, I had to pick up a jug of misery from CVS. It's little bigger than a gallon of milk. What I wanted to write about is what you can expect if you are planning to schedule a colonoscopy at Pacific Endoscopy Center. Shortly after you schedule your appointment, you also schedule a consultation with a nurse for information. The entire staff here are excellent and will take good care of you. This facility isn't some small medical office. It's a twice the size of the Panda Express next door. The staff here are so efficient and will explain to you the entire process. When you're already nervous about the procedure, there's nothing like being around receptionist, nurses, and anesthesiologist who are working together as a team to take good care of you. My doctor was Dr. A (that's what they call him) was a friendly doctor and made me feel relaxed. Colonoscopy isn't fun but before you know it you're done drinking the jug of misery and procedure is complete. You even get a nice picture of your colon to take home. read more

Was referred here by my PCP. Took about a week for them to contact me to schedule my initial consult. From referral to initial consult was approx 5 weeks. After the consult it was decided that I should go through with colonoscopy, which was scheduled in 2 weeks. Upon arrival at the center, check in was easy, completed the copay and was taken in the back approx 20 minutes after arrival. Everything happened quickly after that- questions about my health history, BP monitoring, change of clothes into a gown, IV inserted, receiving fluids. Personal items kept under me on a shelf under the hospital bed. Shortly after that the nurse anesthetist (Martin) wheeled me from the bay to the surgical area, I met the MD (Dr. A-Rahim) and GI tech (Anthony), all very nice! We reviewed my history/reason for procedure, and before I knew I was listening to an explanation of the anesthesia and dozed off. After what felt like a second I was back in the bay. Done! BP monitored, given some tea, changed back into my clothes. They staff was so efficient, I was out of there 11 minutes after my scheduled procedure time . The nurse made sure to review my discharge paperwork including results and lack of abnormalities (thankfully), and walked me out to make sure 1) I didn't fall or lose my balance and 2) make sure I had transportation since you shouldn't drive after anesthesia. When I need another colonoscopy (in 10 years ) I will definitely come here. I think the process of scheduling my initial consult took weeks due to my issue not being emergent. Scheduling a routine colonoscopy may be more routine and well in advance of the procedure date. Went here for an endoscopy. I had never had one before and was a bit nervous. Sophie, my nurse, took me in to get ready for the procedure. She asked me about my medical history, allergies, and general health. I then changed into a gown and put my clothes and belongings in a plastic box that went underneath the hospital bed. Sophie gave me a warm blanket and started my IV drip. After a short wait, the anesthesiology nurse came to get me and wheeled me down the hall to the procedure room. She hooked up another connection to put in the anesthesia while the assistant helped me turn on my left side and placed a mouthpiece in my mouth to keep it open while the scope was inserted. The anesthesiologist then administered the anesthesia. The next thing I knew, I was in the recovery bay waking up. A nurse came to see me and helped me out of my gown and into my clothes. She gave me a cup of water and some crackers to eat. I felt a little dizzy at first, but that wore off quickly. I was able to gather my bearings and the nurse helped me walk out to my ride. Overall, not a bad experience with my endoscopy at this facility. The staff was professional and caring, and the procedure was quick and relatively painless (minus the needle going into your skin). read more

Even handing 30+ procedures a day, the experience was efficient and pleasant (well, as pleasant as a colonoscopy could be). Dr. Wong was great, the whole team was great (all introducing themselves even knowing I'll never remember a single name). I'm not in a hurry to get another procedure, but when my time comes around in ten years, I hope this place can fit me in. read more

Joking aside this is serious. So let's talk about health. It's important to get this exam done. I mean, really it's a pain in the butt to get this rescheduled and the prepping just blows you away. #1 you have to have a clear liquid diet the day before and drink this awful gallon of liquid that really taste like crap. #2 you are literary on the porcelain throne all day and night. It's the, "Okay I'm finally done. I'll just wash my hands and oooh noooo", run back to the closest washroom. #3 have someone plop you off for procedure and you wait for your appointment time. The waiting room looks small but people were dropping in and out quickly. And the prep room was clean and had bins to put your personals in while you change into a gown. Seriously I think the tie strings should go in the front, to easily tie. The nurses check, recheck, and then triple check your name and follow up information and why you're there. I informed them "I here for the butt jamming concert." When I quickly got corrected with a laugh, anesthesia quickly followed. Next thing I know I'm waking up, feeling refreshed and clean. Put your cloths on, get escorted to the recovery chair to wait for your ride and off you go. I got nothing to compare this too except when I was on the H.S. football team. I joined as a tight end and got converted to a wide receiver. True story. Overall five stars. Professionals taking care of you. And really it's a health check everyone should do. Jokes aside if you have a family history of colon cancer or at that age, I urge you to get check. Did I feel violated in anyway? No. Was I comfortable the whole time? Yes. Would I do it again? Amazing experience! Original appt was set for 11:00. Day before as I was going thru my prep, they called to ask if I wanted an earlier appt due to a cancellation. Of course since I've already been starving myself & slewing thru Yelp reviews on restaurants to eat at post-op, I opted for the 9:30 appointment. Arrived @ 9:00 when they opened for check-in. After a quick run thru of simple paperwork, I was escorted into the back by Juliet. She made me feel so comfortable right off the bat! Immediate laughter & friendliness as we got to know one another. I was given some privacy to undress & get comfy in the night gown. We carried on our laughter once I was settled in. My anesthesiologist, Marty, came to get me about 10 mins later. As he rolled me to the room, we stopped & he grabbed me another warm woobie from the blanket heater. In the procedure room I met Dr Wong who explained what he'd be looking for, gave me a general timeline and asked if I had questions. Marty then gave me a clear explanation of what to expect once he begins administering the sleep medicine... 5, 4.... I was gently woken up about an hour later by Marie. She made sure I got my bearings & then reviewed my initial report with me. Removal of my IV, privacy to get dressed & escorted to a comfy chair (with a fresh new heated woobie!!) as I waited for my ride to arrive. Hands down, I was very comfortable here. Professional staff. It is my 2nd time using Pacific Endoscopy center. Each time my nurses and other staffs are very professional and courtesy. This time I kind of scared cause I had breast cancer before. But my nurse Arlene and CRNA Marty made me ease of mind and explained to me each of steps. After a procedure, my nurse Cathy was very kind and explained my brief result and after care. Do yourself a favor and go to a proper medical facility. As others have mentioned, this is in a strip mall. It's very convenient, but in case anything goes badly, you'd rather be at a medical facility. Also had a couple of very bad things happen here, though they happened a while ago, so I don't know if the same Doctor I saw that was affiliated with this place is still there. For a colonoscopy, the doctor told me that most of his patients had the procedure without anesthesia. I know a ton of people who have had colonoscopies, and I have yet to know of anyone who's had the procedure without anesthesia. I told him I wanted to be put under, but wonder of wonders, I woke up towards the last part of procedure, and it was very uncomfortable/painful. This has never happened to me for any other colonoscopy since then. I think it was done on purpose so that they could get you up and out the door as soon as possible. You can guess why. Second time there, I had an endoscopy. At the time, my PCP had just moved out of state, so I was without a PCP. They did the procedure, but something bad showed up on the scope. However, the Dr who did the procedure didn't want to tell me anything about it (didn't see me after the procedure) and they refused to give me a follow-up appointment with him to talk about the results. I think they normally might have sent the results to my PCP and I could have discussed with him. Instead they wanted me to wait to see another GI in their practice who I couldn't get an appt with for like 8 weeks because he was out of state for a while, and wouldn't give me the results. Luckily, I was able to get another Doctor I was seeing to call them and demand the results. They gave her a hard time, but did end up sending it. Found out I had a serious condition, and I needed to get another more specialized endoscopy that few Doctors were qualified to do. I think they wanted to hold my results until the qualified Doctor in their practice was back. It was a very expensive procedure, so your guess is as good as mine why they wanted me to wait so long. I was able to see another qualified GI elsewhere much sooner, and ended up getting scheduled for surgery before I would have even been able to see this place's Doctor. read more

My GI doc referred me here for an EGD study because I have been having nausea, vomiting and intense abdominal pain that started on my trip on the mainland. I decided to come here vs the nearby medical center because I have heard so many positive reviews from friends and patients at work. I had to come here twice because my first visit had to get rescheduled because despite me not eating over 12 hours, there was still food in my stomach when they put they camera down (another problem I have, nothing to do with prep). The first time I went, my appointment was at 7am and I got taken in right away and left by 8:30am. So fast! The second time I went, my appointment was at 10:00 but I was not taken in til after 11:00 am and I can't remember what time I left (too groggy). I would recommend getting the earliest appointment time to get in and out quickly. That aside, the staff here is awesome! I absolutely loved my nurses and especially my nurse anesthetist Lee. She was the best! I felt very well taken care of. I don't remember a thing after I had the iv sedative and as soon as I woke up, a nurse rushed in to check in on me. I recommend this place to anyone who needs endoscopy services. read more

Happy New Year! Well, got done what I should've done at least a year ago, my colonoscopy. My Dr referred me to this place and my first concern was that it wasn't a hospital. I was reassured by my dr's nurse that it's a great place and they'd take care of me. From first phone call to exit, all staff showed nothing but aloha and professionalism! I felt very comfortable from the time I walked into the office with a warm greeting, then to prep, anesthesiologists, dr, nurses, and finally post op. I went to PEC yesterday for my first C. procedure and I was so impressed. The staff there is wonderful. Wait time-minutes, check in- easy, everyone and myself masked up. As soon as they took me in every single person that was assigned to me was super friendly and nice and prepped me within minutes. The anesthesiologist rolled me over to the treatment room where Dr. Wong was waiting with the attending nurse and within minutes I was out like a light and woke up back in the intake section. My exit nurse Juliet was very thorough and reviewed with me my printed procedure docs explaining everything and even walked me out to make sure I got into my ride ok. That center is staffed with the pride of Hawaii; our Filipina nurses and were all so efficient but their display of caring and knowing their job and skills truly stands out there. Aloha Kakou, it's that time, to experience the unknown-I've been having some acid reflux issues and today is thee day I'm going to put my big girl panties on, I'm here with my BF, we arrived at 10:55 for my 11:00 check in Appt, I got my items ready and waited for the front desk to help me next, time began to move extra slow for some reason? I'm sitting in the waiting room, listening to irritating infomercials, thinking to myself, why isn't this TV on something more educational like National Geographic? Or the news? Or music? Or something relaxing for the patients? Then there was this young keiki who was playing his game extra loud on his phone... I was like WTF is his parents going to do about his rudeness? Well, his mother did nothing and I grew more irked, lucky for them I had my ear phones to shut that kid up, or I would've had to educate that mother on her child. 5/3 @ 6:30AM Today I had to take my dad to his colonoscopy & he was dreading it (no surprise there). I can't speak personally as far as how the procedure went so this review is primarily for the customer service / front desk receptionist. She (I didn't get her name) greeted us right away and was super friendly, efficient, and personable- which I found was really nice being that most people who come into the office is for something they sort of don't wanna do, lol. My dad's procedure started at 7am and I was told I'd get a call when he's awake from anesthesia and ready for pick up. At exactly 7:59am I got the call from Mel, who I believe is one of the nurses. She was super nice & friendly too! Overall I'd say even though the purpose of coming here isn't ideal for most, the staff definitely make the overall experience a lot better and I'd recommend anyone who needs to get their "c" done, to do it here! My mom has her colonoscopy in 2 weeks and she's coming here too :) read more

Just had my first colonoscopy. Staff at Pacific Endoscopy Center was amazing! They made an awful procedure almost enjoyable. Friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. From making the appointments to the consultations to the prep to the actual procedure then through the recovery...everyone made you feel confident and cared for. The RN who hooked up my IV did an awesome job... even with my small veins. The nurse in the procedure room got me an extra heated blanket because she noticed I was cold. The anesthesiologist put me at ease. And Dr. Small just did his job efficiently and expertly. No chit-chatting. I like that. TV in the room while I waited for the procedure with a warm, heated blanket was awesome. Then free Wi-Fi while I waited for my husband to pick me up made the wait go by in no time. I highly recommend this center for your next colonoscopy. Thankfully I don't have to do this again for another 10 years! read more

Such a convenient location, friendly staff. Wonderful experience from start to finish. Starts with an easy check in, then vitals taken, placed in a waiting area where you remove all clothing and an IV inserted and you wait under a heated blanket which was nice because it was pretty chilly. Then you get wheeled into the "room" where you meet your doctor for a short introduction. Then a cuff is placed on your arm and an air hose placed near your nostrils and you're asked to breathe in deeply three times as you lay on your left side. The next thing I remember was waking in another room and being told that it was over and being offered something to drink. A few minutes later a person popped her head in and said I was ready to go after getting dressed. Your ride is called and once they sign you out, you're ready to go. read more

I was really nervous to do my procedure yesterday, but the staff here are really nice and very patient with everyone. I ended up coming earlier then my said appt. time but I was still checked in and seen early. From the front desk to the post op. The entire staff is very friendly and helpful. Dr. Kim was very thorough, with explaining the procedure and I felt very comfortable. I do not like having to put an I.V in my arm. I've had problems with having to poke a needle in me and placing the I.V. Before, so when DOM(sorry that's just short for his name, because I don't know how to spell his name)explained to me on how small the needle would be and fast the insertion would be. I still was afraid. But when he did it. It was really fast and I didn't really feel it. It was the BEST I.V insertion I've had. While I waited in the waiting area for my turn. The staff constantly checked on all the patients. To see if they needed another warm blanket, if they were ok and comfortable. Excellent patient care. I absolutely love that. This place doesn't make you feel like this is just a job for them to do. They make you feel like they love what they do. My procedure was very fast and I felt completely comfortable with the staff. I was adamant and nervous to get my procedure done because of the many stories of the preparation, the drink and given anesthesia. First of all the preparation was not as bad as I thought it was; the taste of the drink with the flavor given by the pharmacy was not that bad. Going to this center relieved all anxiety as the staff, nurses and doctor was outstanding!! High qualified, friendly, understood my anxiety. Was here this past Monday -- I'll go straight to the point: What I liked: 1. The clinic is nice and special mention to these staff who made me feel at ease: Gail (reception -- I liked her even before meeting her because she was very nice on the phone each time I called), Melanie (RN who took care of the salt water IV), Cynthia (who administered my favorite part of this whole procedure: the sedation), and of course Dr. Kim. At the main office in Pearlridge, Anthony (Physician's Assistant) was also very professional and thorough, thank you. 2. That warm blanket! What I did not like: 1. The intake staff (Juliet or Judith?) was okay but abrupt. 2. I was out for about 30 minutes. A staff woke me up, briefly told me the results, and almost instantly, I had to get dressed, used the rest room and immediately afterwards -- and I was still very dizzy and zig zagging when I walked -- although the staff was holding on to me holding on to my bag and the results printout, I was being led out to my companion who was standing outside the main entrance/exit. In just 5 minutes from when I was woken up, I was out the door already!!!! I think they should have a recovery room where patients can sit down for a while. I did not even spot a drinking water dispenser in the clinic -- inside or in the waiting area. A friend had the same procedure done the same week at Queen's POB 3 and she shared that she was taken to a recovery room and offered juice and crackers. Another friend went to Kuakini a few years ago for the same procedure and she was given ample time to recover and was also offered juice and cookies. I know this is a busy clinic and things run efficiently --- but a little extra like giving the patients just a few extra minutes after waking up and even just offering H2O would have been nice. From the time I arrived to check in, I was in and out in 2 and a half hours. Preparing for and undergoing this procedure is major and can be dreadful but that little extra TLC -- instead of being rushed out while still very dizzy and unsteady only 5 minutes after they wake you up -- would have been nice. read more

I had the big "C" procedure today. For all you 50+ year olds you know which one I'm talking about. I've been dreading this day for weeks since I met with Dr. Aaron Small for my consultation. The prep for the colonoscopy was not as horrid as I've witnessed (my husbands) and heard of from friends. The solution was pretty icky but I found that drinking each glass in one big breath was the way to go. I'll save you the details of how the solution works (ask anyone over 50). Timing is everything and the instructions were very thorough and doable. Checked in at 12:00 p.m. and prepped on gurney by appointment time of 1:00 p.m. IV nurse was Sophia and she was very professional and quick in insertion of needle and hooking up IV bag. Anesthesiologist, Cynthia, made me feel at ease and we were laughing on the way to the procedure room. She explained what the process will be to knock me out. She even got me a new blanket because I was cold while waiting for procedure. Dr. Small was all ready and waiting for me when I got to the procedure room. Happy juice introduced into my IV line and I was out within a minute. Next thing I know Sophia was waking me up asking if I wanted something to drink. Juice please! She helped me up and sat me on a chair to make sure I was oriented and able to get dressed. From check in to check out whole procedure took a little over 2 hrs. Totally would recommend this facility but it's not like recommending a restaurant or salon! Procedure went as expected with no surprises so I'm good for another 10 years! read more

Awesome nursing staff and customer service is wonderful! I was immediately greeted with a smile as I entered the door. They are very thorough but efficient and that is a big plus for any business.
