It's been a while since I've been to Sushi Legend for AYCE. I remember the last time, we were a group of eight but only given one iPad to order, which made the process slow and tedious. We tried to make it easier by requesting a second iPad, pretending we were two separate tables of four. In theory, this should have worked, as the staff said orders would be served according to the iPad they were placed from. In reality, though, everything ended up coming to one side of the table, and it turned into chaos. Fast forward to today, where once again, we were a group of eight. I was happy to see they've switched to a QR code ordering system, so everyone could view the menu and order from their own phones. While the food still ended up being served all to one side and piled onto shared plates (so there was a lot of passing dishes around), the overall process felt smoother this time. Service was also a noticeable improvement. One particular server went above and beyond. She was friendly, made light conversation, was quick to clear empty plates, and even refilled our sodas without us asking. It also looks like they've renovated and expanded the dining area. I remember it feeling cramped before, but today, the seating was comfortable and spacious. The updated decor also gave a nice ambiance to the place. Love the fish lights! As for the food, the fish quality isn't my favorite compared to other spots and I've definitely had better, but it was decent. I do wish their spicy mayo had more of a kick. On the plus side, all the beef dishes were really well done, and I enjoyed their dessert options. However, the green tea ice cream didn't taste like green tea at all; it was just sweet. As a bento box enjoyer, sushi legend is a great place for lunch specials as each box is priced at $15-16. I got the short ribs box which comes with the ribs, 2p tempura, 6p sushi and rice. It also comes with a miso soup, salad and ice cream on the side. Most places these days offer less for more, but I still think the ice cream to end off lunch is what puts this place just a bit above other restaurants. Parking can be quite hectic in this plaza so be prepared to park on the side streets. read more

I've only had the bento boxes here and haven't tried AYCE. We usually get chicken teriyaki or beef short ribs. It comes with soup, salad, and a scoop of ice cream. The portion is pretty generous, at $15 or $16. The service is quick, and we never wait long if we need something. Parking right outside the restaurant may be hard to come by during regular dining hours, so you'll likely have to look just a bit further in the parking lot for a spot to park. They have renovated and extended the restaurant which is good and there's room for larger gatherings. They have removed the iPads and provide your table with a QR code that everyone can scan on their phone and order. This is both positive and negative; it's negative for larger groups, because you cannot see what others have ordered and you might order duplicates. The staff are friendly, respectful and responsive; unlike other sushi restaurants. We came here in a large group and they were accommodating. We had a 2-hour limit. Sashimi was fresh and delicious. Some of the rolls had cooked salmon in them, which was weird and wasn't mentioned on the menu. The first sign this place would be good was how busy it was Saturday night. Me and my bf went a little early for dinner so luckily we managed to escape a lineup. Even though it was so full my boyfriend remarked it was well managed because we weren't waiting long for our food. How it works for all you can eat is you scan the QR code on the receipt and order on the website. It's very easy and convenient, just dont forget to hit the final send button. I got a whole variety, including quail, which is not normally found at sushi places. I'm not a fan of Yuzu though, so it dinged the review for me that a couple of dishes I wanted like torched salmon sashimi and beef tataki were absolutely drenched in it. Soda is included in the price, but I recommend skipping it for the food. Quality is definitely there, I loved the scallop and sweet shrimp. The dessert menu is quite large and I appreciate how they're served in small shot glasses so you can try everything. I ended up getting 9 desserts. Quality is above average for ayce grade. The 80 piece set was ordered on Ubereats at 66$ before taxes and applicable fees. This is a very standard ayce place with an iPad ordering system. Compared to other places, there seem to be very limited items on the menu, and nothing was special or stood out. I do appreciate that they have scallop sashimi for dinner as I don't see this often, and it tasted quite fresh. My goal was to eat as much sashimi as possible and then eat other items that interest me. The salmon sashimi was quite fresh, and they were thick slices. However, other than the sashimi, everything was very mediocre, or it just didn't taste good. The takoyaki was probably one of the worst dishes I've tried at an ayce as parts of it were so chewy that I couldn't eat it at all. Even the shrimp tempura was pretty bland. Our iPad was also giving us such a hard time as it would lag with every click so it would take us a while to just submit an order. We also were missing items or received items that we didn't order. After experiencing this at other ayce, I just learned to let these go as it takes too long to look through all the items and clarify with the servers which ones came out and which ones didn't. One of my fave AYCE sushi spots in North York. Service is always quick efficient and they are so attentive, easy ordering through the iPad. I've been for both dinner and lunch, and love both options, but find way more flavourful and better options for dinner. The ambiance is always busy, on the louder side but still okay. Heard this was the original location and decided to try out the sushi platters here. This location is much smaller than the Scarborough one, so it may take longer to get a table without a reservation for dining in. With the lockdown in place, we ordered the 40 piece sushi and sashimi platter for pickup. I liked how the variety of sushi and sashimi were different at this location (no octopus!). Right now there are some free coupons you can use with your order for free appetizers or rolls. Also, if you pay cash, you get 15% off. I ordered the salmon lovers tray ($40 / $38 with cash) and it comes with 20 pcs of salmon sashimi, 10 salmon roses and 10 salmon nigiri sushi. I don't see a lot of places offering an only salmon type tray so I was excited to see this one. I also ordered a party tray a ($20 /$19 with cash) that came with 40 pcs of mixed rolls and sushi pcs. Both trays were delicious and fresh tasting. The salmon lovers tray was the winner as the fish was cut nicely and very generous. I've been to Sushi Legend in Scarborough several times and I've always left happy and stuffed. This was my first time visiting this location so I expected the same standards. Four of us arrived before the lunch rush so we were seated quickly and started ordering through an iPad. It didn't take long for the first dishes to show up and everything was good, as we expected. We should have ordered more food initially because our second round was just about as much as our first. Unfortunately, there was a failure in technology that caused a delay and it wasn't immediately obvious. We just assumed our second order was taking longer because it got busier with the lunch crowd. We checked the iPad and it said our order was on the way. After about half an hour, a server finally checked on us and discovered the iPad connection wasn't working. Yes, it took them that long to check on us. There were a few other service issues, mostly due to the staff not being very attentive. The food was as good as we expected but the service was below average. I can't really blame anybody for the technical glitch but it could have been handled better. The Scarborough location is closer to home so maybe I'll stick with that one. read more

We were unfortunately seated in the corner of the restaurant near the front doors so there were never any people come by for drinks or other service items. The maki rolls and the hand rolls were really basic to be honest. Nothing really special. I just ultimately felt like most of rolls were kinda rough cut and the ingredients the used in them weren't that fresh. We have been here numerous times but I always forget to do a review. Yesterday we wanted to go for their lunch special but when we arrived we were told there wasn't a lunch special today, only the dinner menu available even though it was like 1pm. The dinner all you can eat was $34.99 per person. Since we were already there we decided to go for it. Anyway the gist of this restaurant was that their food selection was poor and the quality of food wasn't that good for such a high price. Yes I know what you will say, "don't expect much from an ayce" but I've had way better ayce experience for around the same price point elsewhere. Perhaps if they lower their price point to match their quality of food then it wouldn't be so bad but that won't happen. After sitting down, we ordered right away. I got to try beef tataki for the first time and it was great, thinly sliced but full of flavor. We order a few things that did not end up coming out. I enjoyed the sushimi, they were sliced in thick pieces. I also got to try deep fried milk for the first time, it was quite interesting. If you're like me, you continue to search for the best ayce sushi spot. While sushi legend isn't bad, its not the greatest and I would say it sits moderately above average. They have an iPad concierge setup where you take a virtual number and they text you when the table is ready. It's in a shopping plaza so parking can be hit or miss considering the smallish sized parking lot. The food is pretty good considering it's all you can eat. The fish selection is decent and they do have torched sushi which I would recommend. As for the hot foods and desserts, most of the items are pretty standard but they do have some unique dishes. 2.5 Star but round up to 3 star because it is relatively new. Sushi Legend is another new AYCE Japanese restaurant located in Finch & Leslie Square. The interior is nicely decorated and have a lot of booth seating for small group which is great since they offers quite a bit of privacy too. Lunch Special till 4:30 pm that gives you the choice of either lunch set from $6.95 or AYCE from $12.95 depends on the day. Sushi Lunch Bento Box ($8.95) was A-OK. The shrimp tempura was nice and crispy and fried to perfection. The sushi though aside from the salmon all tasted not super fresh, however the rolls are nicely made! I will suggest if you are a big eater, go for the AYCE option as I was just half full after that bento box! Services is fast and maybe too fast. I was given the bill even before I start eating my dessert?! For dessert, you do have a choice of ice cream. Grand Opening Special 10%! or if you want to be real cool, check in with your Yelp App and get 10% off! 5 stars = Woohoo! As good as it gets! I will change it to 4 stars as soon as I find a better AYCE sushi place. Forget new year's resolution! I was craving sushi and let's face it you can't just have few pieces :-) I came for lunch so I can't review sashimi. Sushis and makis were delicious and this place was not stingy with the meat unlike some other places. I liked salmon roses the best (pic below) as they got more meat than rice, something rarely found in AYCE sushi places. Hand rolls were just amazing, sea weed erryday!! Portions of grills were so smalls you think they are free samples! which means I can sample the whole grill menu without stuffing up. I usually avoid ordering temporas but I still ordered scallops which were tasty. Sweets are served in shot glasses. Free drinks. The place is crowded yet clean and spacey. Comfy booths. Parking was a headache but it was worth it. Service is very friendly and efficient. Price is comparable to other AYCE sushi locations. Best so far. We made a reservation for 9 ppl for 545pm, and they told us we were late as our reservation was supposed to be 530pm on their book, and so we were told we'll have to wait since they were cleaning the table. Ok, make sense. HOWEVER, the next group of ppl came and told them they had a reservation for 9 as well, they got seated right away. I mean, REALLY?! Have you ignored us? Went to Matsuda AYCE on Don Mills at 5:30pm last night and the place was full due to a big party that was already booked. Luckily with the use of Yelp, I was able to quickly find another AYCE place that is nearby and found Sushi Legend. I was really excited to see some very interesting items that I don't normally find at Japanese AYCE places which included salmon tataki (raw salmon thinly sliced seared with a vinegary sauce), beef tataki, and scallop sashimi. If you like sashimi then this is the place. It's so nice to have just sashimi instead of sushi (with rice). The sashimi here is really fresh and salmon was nice thick pieces which I don't usually see at AYCE places. And the grilled meats are delicious especially the grilled squid, curry pork skewers, and the enoki beef. And there was also a big selection of desserts which were all very good. We had similar issues that other Yelp reviewers mentioned which is that they forgot some our orders. But the staff were very good with helping us to get the missing items so we were not too bother by it. The prices are a little high but it's worth it if you like sashimi. read more
