It's been quite some time since I've been here. A friend recently told me they had the robot servers , so I knew I had to go back!! I LOVED the kitty cat server. So cute. It also talks and said , "Here's your stuff " . The custard buns were tasty as always, the salmon fresh and the Sakura Roll was to die for! It had tempura bits, avocado and spicy sauce. It was shaped into what looked like four flower petals. Not going to lie, I had a hard time fitting that one in my mouth and tried to bite it; resulting in rice in my hair. #StayClassy All in all, I loved the robot server experience. It was cute. So...we got our sushi incredibly fast...which at first we were impressed...until we realized it tasted and had texture of day-old or end-of-day sushi. It was clear that they had pre-made everything way too far in advance, making the quality gross. Even the deep fried cali roll, we could tell had been microwaved to be heated up again. Overall impression: a very friendly, fast serviced all you can eat sushi restaurant with mediocre food This place was modern and spacious, they had iPads for ordering all you can eat with your usual selection of most AYCE sushi places. The service was incredibly fast and friendly, with servers coming to your table every so often to check on you which is rare for an AYCE restaurant, which I thought was a lovely experience. The food quality though was very okay. The sashimi was fresh and served on a bed of ice which I liked. And the cooked entrees such as teriyaki beef, chicken and tempura were all quite good except for the sushi... which was what I came for and unfortunately it just was not good. It was not flavorful enough and there were too many fillers in there such as too much cucumbers or avocados in their hand rolls and maki rolls. I was quite disappointed with their sushi and did not make a second order of sushi after trying to finish the first set of order. The pricing was also standard pricing for an AYCE sushi joint, and if I had to choose between another sushi place and this one, I would probably pick another place. The only thing that made this place not so bad was the great service. If you're looking for an AYCE sushi place and rather have cooked standard Japanese/Chinese food this is the place for you, but if you're only in it for the sushi, it's better if you find another joint. read more

One of my favourite places to go for all you cant eat !! The only thing is they don't take debit just credit and cash, though luckily they have an atm present. Such a pretty and nice looking place, you also place your orders on iPads which is a very cool plus! They have a lot of options for people who aren't that big on just sushi alone so it is easy for any newbies to tag along and enjoy. Always a regular place to go in Oshawa. read more

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We were a party of two and went for the All You Can Eat (AYCE) dinner. The service was good, the ambiance was good, it was not too busy at that time. Overall, the food was mediocre, we've had better AYCE sushi. We ordered four sushi rolls (Spicy Salmon Roll, Spicy Butterfish Roll & 2 other rolls I don't remember), the 007 Special Roll, and a few of the tempuras, and fried appetizers. We did not find any of the rolls to be memorable and found it a bit on the salty side. We were not a fan of the 007 Roll (a torched roll with crab, topped with salmon and a white sauce), it tasted off and burnt (but did not look burnt) might have been too torched or maybe the fuel somehow got onto the sushi? I'm not sure. We've had torched sushi before elsewhere, but did not experience this taste before, it was our least favourite dish. We also had some sashimi as well, sizes were small, but overall they were fairly good. The sizes of the sushi rolls were generous, got us full from all the rice. Personally, in AYCE sushi restaurants, I prefer either less number of rolls or smaller sizes so we can have room to try different rolls or re-order the ones we liked. It was good that their 007 Special Roll only came with 4 pieces (not sure if this was the case with their other special rolls). The tempuras were good (shrimp, mushroom, tofu), the squid tempura was a bit on the chewy side. We also ordered other appetizers, which were just mediocre (coconut shrimp, enoki beef rolls, calamari). We usually just order sushi, sashimi and tempura/appetizers when we go to AYCE Sushi Restaurants, so we did not try their entrées or other asian dishes. Finally, we ended the dinner with green tea ice cream (tasted great!) and vanilla ice cream (tasted very artificial) with some fried bananas (was overly mushy and tasted kind of fermented). read more

Came to Kakemono for the first time today for all you can eat. Staff was very friendly. You are able to order on the iPads they provide. We got our food in a timely manner. Waiter checked in a good amount to make sure we were doing okay and had drinks. Had a variety of the food and it all was very good. Overall spent around an hour there. Very clean and nice restaurant. This place looks very nice when you go inside and take a first look. However, the food itself is nothing to write home about. When it comes to sushi, there are better options around - Tokushima Sushi is one of them. One note: waiters seem to be kinda clumsy. After noticing a few accidents, I started to cringe whenever they were near our baby - who was sleeping in her stroller - carrying bowls with hot soup, showing little concern about balancing the scorching liquid that was inside them. read more

I was not impressed at all. Multiple items we had ordered never showed up. The server finally brought two of the missing items (after I had asked multiple times). This was and will hopefully be the only time I ever leave all you can eat sushi hungry. The sushi itself was less than spectacular, comparable to grocery store sushi. It's all you can eat so that's a plus. Servers are friendly and you will often see the Manager/Owner walking around talking to customers and asking about their experience. That's always a nice touch. It's slow. Don't go in a huge group or it will be a lot of waiting. Even with 2 it was a lot of sitting and waiting. They are doing their best so it's good to practice patience at this restaurant. I don't like the fact that prices are raised for Mother's Day, restaurant is jam packed with business but the price is increased bc it's considered a holiday? Generally speaking, Kakemono Sushi isn't a bad restaurant. However, there are many things that could and should be done for them to become much better. It is fairly expensive to eat there - it costs me about $28 for a single meal. The sushi, at best, is average (about a 5 or 6 on a scale of 1 - 10). The wait staff is generally quite nice, though they are often unresponsive if there is a problem with your order, so you will often end up asking them to fix it multiple times. The wait time is also usually quite long, even if the restaurant isn't very busy. I understand it is sushi and can take a while to prepare, but there have been times we have waited for nearly half an hour for our first plate of food. In the end, it is likely for them to charge you extra at the end if there was ANY food left over, which I find quite unacceptable. With a group of me and 4 other friends, there were two plate with a little bit of food left over on it because we didn't like it. We told them the reasoning behind leaving the food, but we were charged an extra $6.50 one of us had to pick up. $28 or so all said and done, I would recommend going elsewhere for sushi if possible. read more

One thing I look for in a Sushi restaurant is their cuts of salmon sashimi. If I can eat it in one gulp, then it ain't worth it. But I find that Kakemono has big cuts of salmon sashimi. I bite into it at least twice to finish it off. The beef teriyaki though is not the greatest. All in all a good place to eat in Oshawa. read more

I first saw this place while driving along Taunton rd and thought it looked like a nice place so I decided to try it. I ordered the bento with California rolls, teriyaki chicken, tempura and the usual sides. For $13 the portion was huge and I ended up eating it for lunch and dinner. Everything tasted great except for the teriyaki chicken which had very little taste, almost like they forgot the sauce. Other than that, it was good and the staff seemed friendly even though I only ordered for pickup. I would probably go back if I lived closer. read more

This place gets a zero star not a 1 star. This place is so unprofessional, predjudice towards people with allergies. I was a customer at this location since they opened about 5 years ago, at least twice a month and my bill was always over $125. This past sunday we placed our order for pick up as usual, advised the lady on the phone for no sesame seeds as we have done in every order for the past 5 years. My daughter is allergic to sesame seeds. That is why we always order pick up or delivery and are never able to dine in. We have never had any problem what so ever up until this last sunday. My husband and daughter went to pick up the order and one of the serving staff place another customers order in my bag with the no sesame seeds. My daughter advised them that we told them in advance that there was an allergy, the server took it back to the chef and he refused to remake the order, started screaming and yelling out right refusing to remake the order, now since we are customers, since you can see how long we have been your customers and we have never made any issues before and any other business will remake it, especially when right on the receipt it said NO SESAME, I mean the girls know us by the phone call and remember us. but nope he refused to make the order. the server was polite, what can she do since the chef refused to remake the order, she took my name and number and told me that the manager is going to be in at 12pm (noon) and she will call me back. At 4:30pm I called because surprise no call from the manager. The manager had the nerve to say to me that the owner has decided not to serve people with allergies. I was shocked, I can't understand how you think it is not rude, predujice to tell a customer go to some other place maybe they can serve you since you have allergies. All they had to do as they have done over a hundred times, wash the knife, wipe the area when you are making my order and package it, like you have done over 100 times in the past 5 years. oh and what I really find the icing on the cake was, you know the salary wages are going up in January and we can't do that. I own a dessert restaurant and we have allergens, nuts and other allergens we advice the customer, do our best and they know it's not a 100% guarantee, but I wouldn't dare tell them I will not serve you or go some place else and maybe they will serve you. It's like telling a person you have this disability so we refuse to serve you because of it, but for 5 years it was fine. At this point I am so angry that I will be looking into legal action. Rudeness of the owners, the chef and the manager are unbelievable. read more

Went with my three young kids (who love sushi) we ate a reasonable amount of food and did not over-order but there were some sushi items and chicken balls left over. A female waitress was concerned by this and said she was going to charge me $8.00 for the wasted food. Before my bill came I looked over their iPad menu and no where does it say they will do this. The male server gave me the bill without the charge of the extra $8.00, but the female server called him over and forced him to change my bill, I explained I did not see this policy anywhere and they chose to both get super loud with me and embarrass me. I will never go back there and not to mention there is fruit flies all over the place while your eating. read more

We were just in for dinner and left 2 plates (pad thati and black pepper steak) uneaten because they didn't taste very good and the manager came over and informed us that we weren't to order either of those items again or leave ANY food uneaten or next time we would be charged an additional fee for uneaten food. We're in complete disbelief. We ate 95% of what we ordered and only left those 2 plates because they were inedible. The manager was very rude and ruined the entire night for us. I could understand if we order a lot of food and ate 1/2 of it but we ate all but those two plates and only because they were disgusting. What a way to treat your guests. $72 for 2 people just to be treated like that and be threatened? I don't think so. We're going to think twice before returning to Kakemono in the future. read more

This sushi restaurant buffet is our place to go before go for a movie night. My wife loves the wong tongs and the variety of sushi dishes are great.The food is always fresh made making the whole experience very enjoyable. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The only complain we have is when sometimes the place gets very busy specially on holiday dates. The service slows down and the staff gets overwhelmed making the waiting time for a table and the food a little bit of a pain. Other than that you will not get dissapointed with the food quality and the place . If you are a lover of Japanese food you are heading to the right place. read more

Food was mediocre to ok but the worst service I've ever experienced. It started with our server telling us we had better make sure we eat all the sushi we ordered ( it happened to be an all you can eat that you order off an iPad ). And for the record it was only a small order and did order a second round of sushi. We asked for refills on the drinks and that was like pulling teeth. Language barrier was an issue but in reality our server and the other staff were just rude and obnoxious. From what we observed most of the other tables were having the same or similar experiences. Horrible food! Horrible service!! Restaurant said closed at 10:30pm and i went there at 9pm. Sat down for 10mins only and they came back to me for last order. 930pm gave me the bill without me asking coz they said they had to finalize their bills for closing!!
