    a bowl of sushi
    Jodi F.

Did carry out and ordered a poke bowl. The website ordering wasn't reliable because we wanted our food far sooner. so we called. We ordered and it was ready 20 min later. I ordered a small poke bowl with tuna and salmon. And ordered double extra protein. It was the right amount of food this way. And it was tasty. I wish they gave us chop sticks. But we had to go eat it with forks. I would definitely go back.

It's funny that poke's unpretentious origin as "poor man's sushi" in Hawaii is now having its moment as a healthy casual dining option in wealthier or gentrified neighborhoods on the mainland. This location of Kaku Sushi and Poké in tony Bloomfield Hills is okay, but I was expecting better service and fish quality. I get the feeling that the place isn't well managed. The manager isn't friendly. He even pointed out to me in a condescending way that I take a lot of photographs. Why yes, I do take a lot of photographs for my Yelp reviews. FYI - I was recently recognized by Yelp as one of its biggest photo contributors in its Detroit market. I stood by the register and the manager was the only one outside. I stood there waiting and he just looked at me without even taking my order. He yelled out to one of his workers to come out from the kitchen to assist me. Ridiculous. Other issues include not having any water available for customers, not asking if I wanted water or another drink, and not having fresh napkins by the utensils. Also, no one acknowledged me on my way out. As for the food, the poke here is an example of taking Hawaii's comfort food and bastardizing it for suburbanites who have likely never truly tasted fresh ahi. My spicy ahi was minced mush. I can handle spice, but the flavor of the spicy sauce was overwhelming, I suspect to intentionally mask the taste of fish that isn't high quality or fresh. I could barely taste the salmon either. The cost of this bowl was over $15. I am doubtful that I'll ever find poke in metro Detroit that rivals the sashimi grade fresh chunks of ahi and salmon on sushi rice that I ate regularly in Hawaii, but there are better alternatives available for modern style poke. Pokéworks in Troy offers better service, a more extensive menu, and fresher fish.

Wow oh wow. Probably my favorite poke place in metro Detroit area. Sushi coup is good too with there specials. I hate to compare but I have to. I've been wanting to try this place ever since I heard about it! It is farther away from me but since I was in the area, thought I'd try! Finally got to try it. It is a nice simple place. I think I had the owner make my Poké. He was super nice. Asking how we found about this place. Very informative and told me I made a good poke bowl. And gave us a sample of different sauces when all we asked for just a side of a sauce. He was a doll. I love there sushi, the spicy salmon crunch. The spicy mayo actually has a tiny kick to it and I love the crunch. Yummmm. Simple but love it. The sushi rice is actually really good too. It was perfect. I love the toppings they had that sushi coup did not. Like edamame, wasabi tobiko, sprouts etc. they had a lot of variety I would say. Also, they actually mix your poke protein with mix ins. Instead of just having it lay on top. My only complaint is that they didn't have marinated proteins. They do have spicy salmon. But no biggie. Would definitely come back.

This venue is clean with friendly staff and the food is delicious. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of fish (TUNA or AHI) and ingredients available here in MICHIGAN of all places! The menu is clear and easy to navigate and there are even options for people who have never had a POKE Bowl ever before in their life. Overall we had a great visit here and recommend it to anyone that may be near by or driving through town. P.S. I highly recommend creating your dish if you want Spicy tuna. Go along with REGULAR TUNA/Ahi and have them mix it with Spicy Mayo. You're welcome and enjoy your meal and visit

A good place for some clean, quick poke. I got the smaller poke bowl, as well as spicy tuna and yellowtail green onion roll. The food was clean and delicious, and the staff was very friendly as well. I went when it wasn't too busy, but I could tell that they treat their customers well by how clean the place (and the bathrooms) were. I would come here again if I'm in the area!

Went here for a quick carry out for dinner. I ordered everything through an app, which I definitely preferred. The ahi tuna was pretty good! I made a build your own with scallops and ahi tuna, definitely turned out well! Miso soup was kind of salty, if that's your thing! All and all, good experience! If I find myself out in that area again, I'll definitely stop in again.

Ahi tuna poké bowl ($14 if you choose the preset, $14.50 for a large 24 oz. Bowl to make your own)

We were promptly seated just after the happy hour began and there were some tables taken up already. Service was excellent. Very attentive and helpful. We ordered the ribs, fried chicken bites, and then each of the happy hour sushi rolls. The stars of the show were the ribs and fried chicken. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. They weren't too sugary either, but definitely had some sweet to them. I'm not a huge rib guy, but these were special. The fried chicken was equally delicious. It came with a sauce that was very good too. Would go back just for those two items. The sushi was good, but not the best I've had. My favorite was probably the shrimp tempura roll. Spicy tuna roll was pretty good as well. Because of how good the ribs/chicken were, this gets a 5 star. The happy hour pricing was very reasonable. Normal pricing a bit rough.

It really added to the whole experience. For starters, we shared the hamachi and crispy rice, both of which were fresh and delicious. For mains, we got the pork ribs and the chicken fried rice, and honestly, the fried rice was a highlight. The panko-crusted chicken pieces in it were such a clever touch. The ribs could use additional flavor (think more ginger-soy). I also loved the cucumber mocktail, which was so refreshing and a great option if you're not drinking. It's upscale yet relaxed, making it feel like a hidden treasure in the heart of the city. For my entree, I chose the Pepper Crusted Filet Mignon with Lobster Tail, and it was sheer perfection! The filet was incredibly tender, with a bold pepper crust and rich port wine mushroom demi-glace, served alongside Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. The added lobster tail was succulent and buttery, creating an indulgent surf-and-turf combination that highlighted the freshness and quality of their ingredients. My partner opted for the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes as her main dish, and they were outstanding, packed with sweet, lump crab meat, lightly breaded for a crispy exterior, and served with house-made tartar sauce and fresh sides. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying, without any unnecessary fillers. The service truly made the evening special; our waitress Chris was amazing! She was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu. Her warm personality and efficiency made us feel welcomed and cared for throughout. While prices are on the premium side, the exceptional quality, portions, and overall experience make it well worth it. Upon walking up to the truck, I was immediately greeted by one of the employees. Love when that happens. There were signs guiding me toward the menu to select what I wanted. As my first time, I opted for more standard rolls, the California and Spicy Tempura. Both had all the traditional favorites. Crab, Avocado, shrimp, tempura, and honestly was way better than I imagined coming from a food truck. The California was my favorite as the spicy tempura lacked spice. Each roll came with 8 pieces and filled me up for lunch! My coworker order the "Fiesta" roll and the Salmon Hand Roll and was extremely satisfied as well.
