This little hidden gem is worth going to visit. They do carry out and dine in with a sushi bar. They have great service and the food is amazing and very reasonably priced. Our first experience with them was in Valentine's Day. They were very busy and we ordered carry out. It took awhile (because of the day) but it was so well worth the wait. We usually drive to Troy or Detroit for sushi but decided to try Sushi Lover out after passing it hundreds of times since moving to Clarkston. We ordered 8 rolls for carry out and were really pleased with the freshness and quality of the rolls. We will definitely be ordering again soon! We tried both raw and fully cooked and every roll was delicious, well rolled, with fresh tasty ingredients. The only criticism we had is we were given two small dip size containers with ginger and two small dollops of wasabi, next time I know to ask for extra. A few weeks ago I was able to finally try Sushi Lover in Clarkston, Michigan. I went at lunch time on a Friday so it was super fast service and not a lot of people were dining in yet. The food was very good. I ordered the Yum Yum sushi roll, which was absolutely amazing, and beef ramen that had a rich and tasty broth. Definitely both were winners. Had a carry out tray of various rolls at a friend's house for dinner, who lives nearby. Not sure what he paid but they put all the various rolls on one tray. Overall they were good, nothing was bad but nothing remarkable either. The size of the rolls though weren't huge, when looking at the diameter of them. If you are in the area and want some sushi, do give them a try. read more

Never been and was a little worried about a sushi place in a strip mall. Let me tell you, I was so impressed with the food, the service and the decor. This is now my favorite spot. Their faux crab is gluten free so I could eat so much more than a simple veggie roll. They have adult beverages, which is always a positive. Our server came over and brought us the bag with ingredients to make sure we were comfortable and felt safe eating there. That is above and beyond. Great spot!! read more

I am glad we got to come here an try this place. I have passed it so many times over the years and always wondered if it was good. We came on a Monday night, and there were quite a few customers doing carry-out and dining in. I was happy to see a loyal following and a business doing well. They had a nice sized menu and offer more than just sushi. But since we were not all present from my household, I did not really order off the sushi menu. Not all of of us are fish lovers, but only sushi lovers were with me on this night. I tried their shrimp shumai. It was okay. I think I would try something else next time. It came with a honey mustard sauce. I am not sure that is traditional, the sauce seemed more like something for chicken nuggets. It was not bad, but I have had better. We ordered a lot of sushi. The tempura sushi was not as good as many other places, and for some reason they doused each roll in a lot of eel sauce instead of the typical drizzle. I was recommended a lobster roll. It was okay, but I think I would order something different next time. I am also having trouble with the sweet potato rolls lately, they are too al dente for me. I would rather have a soft potato. I also got a side of spicy mayo. It was very loose and watery, most restaurants make it fresh and it is thick. This seemed like the grocery store style sauce I buy myself. A bit disappointing. But the simple rolls tasted fresh and good. The scallop, spicy tuna and Phili rolls were great. I think if we come back, I would stick to basic rolls. I would also try some of the items from their dinner menu. So I am not opposed to coming back here and having dinner, it is a fun place, but there is a lot of competition out there for me to try as well. read more

Sushi (spicy California combo) was very good, but much smaller than expected. Service was prompt and the man working the counter was very kind and polite. The salad with ginger dressing was also very good. My only complaint would be the very small serving of miso soup. It had to have been about 1/4 cup in take out. Finished it literally in two sips. This is the first time I visited since the name/ management change. It was okay but definitely not the same. The rice on the rolls was very sticky and seemed to fall apart rather quickly. The tempura vegetables seemed to be a bit crunch and overdone. But my kids didn't mind so I will come back if I am in the area. I used to come here with friends when it was Sushi Land, and the sushi was good, for strip mall sushi. Last night I visited and spent over $65 for meals for 2. We ordered 2 eel-cucumber rolls, an Oakland Roll, and the Sashimi Deluxe. The sashimi deluxe had 16 pieces of fish. 4 salmon, 4 tuna, 4 yellow tail, and 4 white fish. I was expecting more variety, but that's okay! The salmon, fell apart and I felt as though I could taste plastic. I typically love salmon. The tuna was a light pink, which, showed it's age a bit, to me. Working in a sushi restaurant previously, I could tell the tuna was very much not fresh. If it was, it is a bad batch. The white fish was the fishiest I've ever had. The yellow tail was good, I'll give props there. I didn't hear complaints about the Oakland Roll, but the eel-cucumber rolls were 100% cucumber. No eel. Is it, an "eel sauce-cucumber roll"? Presentation was mediocre, pick up time was accurate. Not worth the money. read more

Tonight we went back for carry out and my boyfriend and I ordered the Volcano roll (which we get at every sushi place) and the Oakland roll. There is a dearth of good Sushi restaurants in this area, so we had to try Sushi Lover. It's a half hour from home, and it was definitely worth the drive. Everything about this place is 5 stars! The servers are all very attentive, and seem happy to see you when you enter. We ordered a bunch of different things, and they were all delicious. Sushi land was one of my favorite Sushi place. I recently noticed that they changed name, so I decided to check what happened. I heard Sushi lover is under new management. I was thankful that they still have my all time favorite waterford roll and crunch burrito roll. Food was fresh and tasty, and service was great. I've been to Sushi Lover restaurant recently at Mid December that realized new owner just took over it. Really kind & professional management on board and noticed that previous owner was trying to help new owner for smooth transition. It's very impressive! I ordered big combo B with a couple of noodles which were very delicious and sushi combo provided with a various sushi rolls in a big wood boat, then served sliced fresh law fishes as well. One thing I was a little disappointed was as I am alcohol lover that this restaurant doesn't have a liquor license yet, but they are in the process of getting it at mid Jan. 2020. Well the new restaurant isn't as good as the old one. I ordered a couple of rolls, a bulgogi fried rice, chicken karage and a shrimp tempura for take out. It was 15 mins late and I had to wait. My "fried rice" was mush and we didn't get the shrimp tempura. Found this all out when I got home. Looks like I am finding a new sushi place to go to. read more

I used to always come to this location when I worked in Waterford, that is when it was Sushi Land. I'm not sure what happened, but this is for sure not under the same management. We had ordered online which said it would take 45 minutes. We then waited to leave and showed on time for our order pick up. My friend went in to pick up and pay while I stayed in the car. It had been a bit since she was back, but I figured there were a couple people in front of us, no biggy. As more time passed I started getting worried and was about to go into the restaurant. My friend had walked out after about an hour of waiting. She had said they were taking care of people after us that were just walk ins apparently. We were already irritated at that, but we went home to eat. When I opened the boxes I was even more disappointed. The sushi rolls were tiny for the price I payed. This was our faults, but apparently we didn't check that the spicy California roll in the California pack had hot sauce on it. Who puts hot sauce on sushi? I've seen it IN the sushi roll, but not just directly on top along with a slab of spicy mayo. The wasabi (also not real wasabi) and ginger were put in plastic containers that were in a ziplock baggy. These rolls were the equivalent of grocery store sushi, and I'm not knocking grocery store sushi at all. In fact, that's an insult to grocery store sushi.
