I stayed here for one night. I came with my friend. First we came at 12 pm and our room was already ready which was surprising I thought it wouldn't be ready till 4. Everything was amazing but the room was kinda dirty. The head board for the bed is gross it looks like it has poop marks on it. When we checked the bed there was a booger? Gross. Kalahari exceeded expectations! I was a little Leary, given some of the recent reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. The room was very clean and well kept (standard double Queen). Hallways were quiet at night. Bathroom spacious and worked well. The water park was great. We spent the majority of the time in the toddler areas which was so much fun. The park itself was clean, with the exception of tables being dirty. How we the park was well cleaned over night. The wave pool was only closed down once during the stay. Old, outdated, and dirty, that I had o attend. This isn't a place I aspired to visit until a statewide conference was held here. I should mention that we had no young children to bring, no reason to use the waterpark. this is a facilities only review. PRE-CHECK IN should be that make the reservation, and a you get a confirmation. You get that, but you also get hammered with all sorts of upsale texts. If you cancel them, then ypu don't get facility updates. CHECK IN is difficult because there is no front desk. they do staff the area, but staffing for check in is barebones. Its just you, and the kiosk for the most part. If there is a problem you have to wait for someone to unsnaggle it. OUR ROOM was in the "Sands I" complex, whatever that means. Our "suite" was supposed to be a king bedroom, a living room and a kitchenette. The room was filthy and we were greeted with previous tennants trash overflowing in the kitchen, and a smell of urine in the kitchen area. The sink hasn't been cleaned in a long time. The fridge has a big dent in the door. The suite walls are chipped, marred. in the bedroom, a closet door handle was ripped off of the door, the hole puttied up, and the door handle relocated. the room, on the ground floor only has black out curtains. the sliding door onto the first floor patio has one week feeble lock, and it does lock the door securely. The mattress on the bed is ancient, and long past replacement stage. the pillows are unyielding, cheap, uncomfortable. The living room consists of a plastic upholstered sofa that is designed to be waterproof, but not sat upon. There is no coffee table or hassock, instead about seven foot no mans land between you and the two overstuffed plastic upholstered chairs. there re two small end tables, one has a lamps attached to it. The room lights are not flattering or designed o help you relax. There too few for the space in this room, the bulbs are too dim, and all of them have daylight bulbs that are harsh and unforgiven. The TV is located high up over the fire place and is too small for viewing. There are no food service spots available for an afternoon cup of coffee, and conversation in between 3-6pm. WiFi for guests is open to anyone, the network is wide open without password so anyone could get on the network and do anything. Look, I understand that this place is in business to make money. But you can do far better, for less money, and get a clean room. Now in all fairness, they offered to more us a different room, but they could not guarantee that room condition would be any better. Facilities charges are outrageous given what you get for this facility. but if you like your surroundings worn, dirty, aging, uncomfortable, and full of this is the place for you. If my membership organization hosts another meeting here, I'll stay someplace else in Sandusky. But never here again. read more

We scheduled a stay from Tuesday to Friday for three nights. My wife checked in and the service desk immediately asked for another card for on-site purchases as they stated most people couldn't afford to put the room and purchases on the same card. She assured the desk that we had more than enough credit and was put off by this greeting. Should've been a tip off. We then drove around the facility to get our suite which had a solid 1990's feel to it. We had a full kitchen complete with dirty counters and stains on the floor. One balcony chair was broken, another had mold. The bathroom had a jetted tub with a drain in the middle, which made it hard to shower without stubbing toes. The shower also had no water pressure, the curtain would slip open constantly because the catch was installed upside-down and the air vent also did not work. The pull-out sofa mattress literally had metal sticking out every which way, and the master bedroom mattress was hard as a rock. It wasn't made with a fitted sheet. The master bedroom closet had no latch so the door would open on its own. The bedroom also only had one working overhead light. We found that the TV was not programmed to the remote. The suite had an unidentified constant dripping sound that kept my kids awake. We rented an indoor cabana for two full days. On day one we had to first call because we weren't supplied with the 6 bottles of water in the fridge as advertised. I also found the safe in the cabana wasn't working. Had to call maintenance to completely replace it, they were quick about it luckily. They place the safes on the floor of the cabinet clear in the back, very inconvenient for anyone over 3 feet tall. Most of the channels on the TV did not work. On day two of the cabana I found the refrigerator had not been stocked at all since our visit the day before. The indoor waterpark itself was not kept clean. More than once I found large wads of fake hair floating in the wave pool. I saw only one "station" with cleaning supplies, but no staff actually cleaning for COVID purposes. The staff was also not enforcing 6ft of social distancing and people were CROWDING! The adults only section was roped off the entire time we were there. The outdoor pool was no better at spacing, and was the only thing operational outside. We expressed our concerns with the manager at the front desk, and she was very quick to apologize. She provided us generous credits for the arcade and a discount for another stay. We weren't looking for monetary compensation, but rather to have the staff change their behavior towards COVID procedures and general care of the rooms/facility. We ate dinner at the B-LUX and it was no better an experience than the rest of the "resort". The waiter brought diet drinks instead of what we ordered. He didn't respond to repeated requests for drink refills for my son. We asked for a dessert menu that never came. We asked for the check and it was quickly provided, but with nothing to write a balance and signature. I went to the hostess to ask for a pen and tipped 10%, which I never have done before. The waiter was quick to come to collect the check though. The $15 dollar burger and fries I ordered were the size of a McDonalds happy meal. The chicken on my son's mac and cheese was rock hard and desert-like. The food was superbly sub-par. We visited the arcade, which was not being cleaned well, especially the VR games that required wearing helmets. Many games did not work, and some did not dispense tickets after winning. On our last full day we did see a slight attempt at blocking off the wave pool- possibly for COVID reasons, but it was still decently crowded (image provided). The outdoor pool was just as busy. We asked an employee (not a lifeguard) how the pools were being monitored and were told that they should, but the guidelines were not being enforced. We decided at that point to pack up and leave a day early. The beds and suite were causing us to lose sleep and the crowds were not being maintained at all. On our way home we researched the Huron County Health Department complaints and found that just a week earlier the Health Department had sent a letter to Kalahari stating they were found to be not following proper COVID guidelines. Definitely not a place I would recommend to anyone and certainly won't go back. read more

I've been to Kalahari 3-4 times in the last decade and all I can say is that the illnesses you catch from this place are not at all worth the attractions. My dad, brother, and I all have gotten pink eye on two different trips and I got the flu so severe I had a 103 degree fever that literally ruined our entire trip. One time while using the wave pool a man cut his foot on a shard of glass which resulted in huge amounts of blood releasing into the water. The pool was evacuated and there were cones placed around the area with lots of blood. The employees just poured some chemicals on it, waited until the red faded away, and then reopened the pool about an hour later. No cleaning. Just chemical dumping! The resort itself is so nice but I would advise that you bring your own bedding and wash your hands frequently. read more

Beyond disappointed by the customer service and bad business by this organization. We went to this resort for a dance competition and was told there was a group discount. After finding out that everyone else got the group discount but my family and paid significantly less by a third, I called several people to try and get my group rate and was told that it was sold out and I would not be able to get the price my team got even though I booked the same time as them. Everyone I spoke to was beyond rude and would not accommodate their mistake! I was not notified I did not receive the group rate nor was it even on the website when I checked out. A good business would fix this. On top of all of this, the resort was filthy, 4 water slides closed the entire time and I was locked out of my room several times. I will never go back. read more

My husband and I planned a little getaway (Sunday-Tuesday) with our 5 & 7 year old boys after hearing great recommendations from friends. I'm glad I didn't look at these reviews before we went, or we may have missed out on a great trip. I found the room and facilities to be clean and the staff to be friendly and accommodating. My son even needed first aid on the day we arrived because he skinned his knee pretty badly. A friendly staff member helped stop the bleeding, disinfect and bandage his knee very quickly. Make sure to pack a pool bag with swim suits and a change of clothes if you plan to arrive before check in at 4:00 pm. We arrived at noon on Sunday to go to the water park before check in, and we kept our bags in our vehicle and just brought in our pool bag to get changed in the locker room. A friendly staff member gave us temporary wrist bands so we didn't have to wait in the long check in line to get access to the water park because it was too early to check in. I joined the long check in line at 4:00 pm, and I was surprised how quickly it moved. Our room was clean and spacious with high ceilings that made it seem even bigger. It had a mini fridge and microwave along with a table and seating for 4. I loved that our wristbands we received at check in were also our room keys. One less thing to remember to carry around the resort. The indoor water park is the highlight here, and it's huge. It contains 2 pools with basketball hoops, a Lilly pad obstacle course, a wave pool, a lazy river, a huge playground, an indoor/outdoor hot tub with a swim up bar, 2 kiddie pools, 2 flowrider pools, a restaurant and lots of fun slides. Any child under 48 inches must wear a life jacket at all times. My 5 year old was under 48 inches, so he wore his puddle jumper although the resort provides life jackets you can use. I would recommend bringing your own towels. The resort also provides towels but they are more like scratchy hand towels. There is tons of seating and many private huts you can reserve for a fee. The resort isn't responsible for lost or stolen items, but they do provide lockers for a $25 fee. We never used them and had no issues with lost or stolen items. My 7 year old loved the slides the best-his favorite was the Tanzanian twister (for the dardevils) and the zipcoaster (think rollercoaster only it's a waterslide). A lot of the slides have a minimum height requirement of 48 inches, but my younger son was able to still ride a few of them with me. My 5 year old loved the lazy river and the playground the best. Although we ate off the resort for our dinners, we enjoyed lunch at the Zulu Grille inside the water park and had good experiences. They offer healthier, grab and go options including yogurt parfaits, salads, wraps, fruit and salad cups, as well as your typical bar food, which was also good and the portions were huge. We frequented the Candy Hut. Don't skip out on the Chocolate Shoppe ice cream there. It's so rich and creamy! My boys also loved being able to fill up individual bags of candy here. We are an arcade family, and Kalahari's arcade is massive with every game imaginable. We tried out a bunch of new ones, and we even went bowling! The bowling was fun because they have bumpers and use smaller balls that are perfect for little kids. The prizes are also legit-we came home with a Hot Wheels track! The only downside is they still use paper tickets. Luckily they have ticket counters, but these days most arcades just load your tickets electronically onto your play card. Although we didn't try anything else, they also have mini golf, laser tag, VR games, a 7-D theater and escape rooms. On our first day (Sunday), the park was very crowded with the weekend crowd; however, on Monday there were considerably less people and on Tuesday, we basically had the place to ourselves. We also came back to the water park after dinner on Monday night around 8 pm and rode every single slide multiple times with 0 lines. If you stay overnight, you have access to the park beginning at 9:30 am. Although closing time seems to vary, it was open until 10:00 pm while we were there. The lines were short or non-existent in the early and late hours. Check out is at a 11:00 am, so we packed up our bags, loaded our car and took our pool bag with a change of clothes to the water park so we could enjoy our time there through 3:00 pm. This is definitely the way to go to get the best bang for your buck. Our boys are already talking about coming here again. We had a great time and will return. read more

We have been coming to Sandusky Kalahari every year for the last 10 years. We will never come back. First off, I want to say that the staff is fantastic and very friendly! They were incredibly helpful! Unfortunately, they work for a corporation our entire family will no longer support. We planned to come back later this year for an extended weekend vacation with friends and that's no longer happening. The last time we came to Kalahari was pre-COVID. We went to Kalahari in WI Dells early this year and it was okay but we missed Sandusky and came back. The first issue was the check-in kiosks. They were slow and wouldn't work well at all until a staff member helped us who was excellent. Then my wristband didn't work on anything because Kalahari has now switched everything to wristband scanning, which is smart if they worked half the time! I couldn't access our room and they did fix it quickly but it was yet another inconvenience. We loved the orange zipper rollercoaster style slide and were hugely disappointed when we realized it was removed. We enjoyed other slides but that was our favorite. I should also mention they no longer provide free towels, which is a smart business move because many people would throw them everywhere and the cost of washing of them must be high! They can now be bought or rented for the high price of $20! This didn't affect us as we always bring our own but the resort franchise just felt super greedy on top of "premium seating" to eat your food at the water park, which is ridiculous. Hardly anyone sat there! Generally, everything has been overpriced at Kalahari and with the current economy's rate of inflation it's gotten worse. We spent $30 on a chicken sandwich, hamburger (no cheese!), and fruit. No fries, etc. Nothing! The food was okay. Nothing great but it wasn't bad. Sorvino's was one of the only sit down restaurants and it used to be Ivory Coast that we loved. Again, the prices were incredibly overpriced for food I could make at home and it was "okay." Lastly, the outdoor waterpark had some additions of mini golf, which is great! However, we realized that we had to walk all the around to go to/from the Sands area, which seems like a poor design flaw in their update. There should be another gate there. What took the final straw for us was the fact that when we went to enjoy the quiet sands pool, it was gone. We were so upset and retrieved our items from the locker and promptly leaving in the morning. We planned on going to the Animal Park and didn't want to be disappointed even more at this point. We'll save our money and skip it and go home. Kalahari's "changes" have made our stay less than ideal. We're taking our money and enjoying Sandals/Beaches resorts instead this year. read more

During the winter months,, one might start to wish there's a warm place indoors to go swimming and have a good time. After a day of swimming, the night time comes and you can arcade all night or go to the bar and drink away. Tons of stuff for kids and adults as well. African themed, you enter some sort of a safari atmosphere with tons of animal statues. The lobby is gigantic and do watch out for bellhop carts because people usually don't know how to maneuver them. Then there's the massive room with 2 queen beds, a proper dining table, fire place, tv and a balcony. Bathroom is nice and tidy too. I loves it. The main event, bunch of slides everywhere. My favorite one is what I call the "flusher." Where you slide in the dark and you come out this gigantic bowl that kinda looks like you're being flushed down a giant toilet. Then drops you 6 feet into a deep small pool. The cheetah race is fun as well. So it the family size "flusher" too. I also do love the over 21 hot tub with the swim up bar. We're also all about the lazy river, I can spend the whole day in there. We love coming here, specially when the weather is a lot colder. This at one time was a great water park. Previously they spent the money to keep it pristine. We have been coming for 10 years now and the last two years it has dropped off dramatically. No new rides as the older ones break and are not repaired. Food quality downhill. I certainly understand staffing issues with covid and labor shortages but the slide downhill slide prior to covid. And while you can't necessary control clients, there are certainly ways to better manage who you bring into the park. Take a look at a recent story from local news media that interviews the local Sandusky County Sheriff who says calls for fights, thefts, and even a recent shooting are up over 150%. Very overpriced- most food items are crazy high-check in is done at a kiosk- I had questions a about the room and tried to explain they were not being answered and was pushed just to confirm what was on the screen. For this being my last trip with my daughter and grandkids before she deploys overseas-I'm actually pretty disappointed in all of this. The rooms are average-slightly grimy near the windows and grungy corners. Some for toddlers to do, but not nearly all it was made out to be. No one seems happy to be working here-but really for the price paid with no military service discount offered it's just a lot. I recently stayed at Kalahari for two nights. The room included waterpark passes but that's about it. The waterpark: Was humid and the water warm. Which was great, because you weren't freezing as you went to the different water features. I am kind of scared of huge drops and dips on slides and was able to do most of the slides. Many of them are mild (thankfully). They have a wave pool, swim up hot tub bar for adults, single and multiperson slides, kids pools, and many other attractions in the indoor park. Since it is winter we were not able to experience the outside park. You have to walkthrough the arcade to get to the waterpark. I hated this entry/exit point. Arcade: The arcade is fun. It is large with a wide variety of games to play. It seems a bit expensive, but still fun to play. We ended up spending $50 in the arcade. Escape Room: The first night we tried to book the escape room an hour before closing. The room takes 25 minutes to compete. The guys behind the counter said they were shutting down and you could clearly tell they just didn't want to set the room back up and work. We got in the second day by making a reservation. The room was cool. It was my first time doing an escape room. My partner said it was on the easy side. With 10 minutes left the attendant came on the speakers and gave us a clue. I would have liked a little more time to figure it out on our own. Dining: Marketplace: We ate at the breakfast Marketplace both days. During the week you can only order from the menu. On the weekends they have the buffet and you can only order from the buffet. I hated this as I am not a buffet person. I literally watched a little girl cough all over the food because she was at counter height. This is exactly why I don't like buffets, and then to be at a resort catered to kids and families, disgusting. I would have prefered to be able to order off the menu. So gross... Sortino's Italian: This is a pricey upscale Italian restuarant in the resort. The food is amazing. The staff is amazing. We shared a half salad and got two entrees. They bring out a whole loaf of warm rosemary bread with parmesean cheese, olive oil, and basalmic vinegar. It was delicious! This by far is the place to eat if you like Italian and can afford the prices. We did not try the other restaurants. They have a Starbucks and sugar shack type of place. it smells so sickingly sweet when you walk through the lobby first thing. Mini Golf: It was good. It is only 9-holes. They are pretty simple. For $6/person it was meh. Rooms: The room was nice. It had a king bed with the private balcony, fireplace, and jacuzzi tub. The beds were on the firmer scale but still comfortable. Our room was at the end of the hallway. The hallways are long if you have trouble walking I recommend requesting rooms closer to the elevators. Overall it was a good time. Not having children we went during the end of the week. It was a lot quieter and more enjoyable. We checked out on Saturday and there were kids everywhere. We prefered the quiet weekday. Lines were short and you didn't need reservations anywhere. read more

Company is a fan of bait and switch tactics when it comes to booking. They advertised a three day spring break package and then changed it when I added on other things that we thought were addons like gaming package and early check in/late checkout. They stated that my addons changed my booking which seems odd. Water slides that require automated tube lifting were broke down the entire stay making wait times ridiculous for the level of patrons there. Customer service is suboptimal and everyone wants a 18-25% tip for every service. Save your money and if you're gonna pay Disney prices for something just go there. Our second and last stay with this place. Last time they gave room keys and checked someone else into our room after we had already checked in. For the price they really should have their processes in order and customer service you would expect to be a notch higher. The room was nice but for the price paid it should be. Spent an hour plus on phone with reservations while sitting in the lobby because I was told the location couldn't handle the concern. After an hour 15 minutes in the phone with Lin I was told that they were going to help remedy the situation. Then after the last time being put on hold I was told to speak to someone at the location again. While on speaker phone with Lin and speaking directly to the second employee, Robbie I was told to fill out a survey and the management would then contact me to help remedy. What a joke! read more

The quality of this resort has deteriorated terribly in the last few years. I came here with my family back in 2017 and again this past week. We're a large group and always book a suite with multiple rooms for a week long stay - basically, we're paying a lot of money. We had issues with both visits but they were even worse this time around. The resort has a run down, seedy hotel feel to it these days. We decided we won't be back. The rooms: Bedsheets are always dirty. We found a wet pillow with mold growing on it this visit. See photo attached for proof. We complained and were sent to a new room. New room had some dirty sheets that we requested replaced. The floor in the kitchen area was sticky and dishes were dirty. We decided to just clean those ourselves. The indoor water park: The park has clear signs of deterioration. Everything looks slightly dirty. Lifeguards DO NOT pay any sort of attention. Although, I do have to mention that there was a great lifeguard by the Victoria Falls slide in the evenings. He was joyful, attentive, and made the kids laugh. Most other lifeguards were awful and often just begged you to update them on what time it was. One young lady just sat playing with her hair and never looked toward us as we passed her on the lazy river. Another woman in the kid area had her back turned to the kids and my nephew stood waiting for her help for several minutes before she noticed. At one point in the baby area we pointed out a moldy sponge floating on the water. We pointed it out to the lifeguard and his response was "oh yeah that's gross. I'm not touching that." We then told him that maybe they should remove the sponge, to which he said "oh you're right, I'll ask someone to come by." Food is gross. Drinks are sugar filled and over priced. Guests: Guests are also an issue - most seem pretty seedy. They don't behave in a family friendly manner (like cursing loudly around children). We even came across a man with an ankle monitor (like police/court appointed one)... just an idea of what you can expect. COVID: About 90% of staff do not wear masks. Social distancing and mask wearing is not a thing here. If you're worried about getting sick, this is not the place to be. Overall, this was once a great and fun resort to visit. Not so much these days. Sad to see the place deteriorate in this manner. Maybe the outdoor water park is better, but indoor park and the rooms are not recommended. First of all I call sat and booked got one night then on Sunday decided to go two nights o called three times and I asked if Amy packages for stays and I was told no and on the second tone I called I tried to upgrade he didn't do his job I had to call again the way o known was no email. So when o was there I going out that there was buy two get one I would have took that we gone from buffalo amd I'm disabled and I also told on the phone I was disabled so when I get to the resort it has my account owning 549 and I was told 415 so I went to the surprvisre and I told my problem he had a very nasty attitude saying I was wrong and the machine was right I said no and I Ron's him I was disabled he told me I was right done the hall some it was very hard for me to walk so he looks it up I was right 415 I don't appreciate the way I was talked to . So on ties I found out about the door g break special and a mom told me I went up the office they couldn't help me I spend a lot f money at ur resort. It when we got to ur room no towels there was dirt in my bed I didn't even sleep in that bed with my kids I will be weighting h a bad rewiew and it's sad cause the kids loved the park and there were a couple great people we talked to I hope u can fix this we have left now but. My kids and I didn't deserve this and not getting handicapp is down right wrong have a blessed day one said I was handicap and walk with a cane. They couldn't even give me a shower that I could get in and then when I called to get any accommodations or anything, the supervisor has to be nasty. This place is an expensive dump. It's run down, dirty and the service is substandard. At $200 per night they do not make up the room, nor bring you fresh towels. Our sink was clogged, the shower drain was broken and the toilet was loose. They did fix most of it after we reported the problems. Listen the waterpark is nice! But the check in process is not streamlined! I waited in line 45 minutes to check in! My husband thought I had been abducted, he kept texting and checking on me. So we get checked in and was told our room was straight down a hall. Nope not even close. I'm currently rehabbing a back injury, I did not appreciate the long walk down 3 halls. Then our bracelets didn't open our door (bracelets is a great idea because I always lose my room keys). So walked the 7 mile walk again to the lobby, waited 26 minutes to reprogram our bracelets. Went to waterpark for a couple hours, fun. Came back to get cleaned up for bed, no freaking towels! Had my daughter call so I could jump in the shower. She called, stood by the door waiting they didn't show up with towels, I dried off with hand towels. I called again, she said they were busy and would be there soon. The room is full of mosquitoes, my daughter and I are both allergic. Bathroom ceiling has water damage that's been painted over. Not impressed for the price we are paying. Overall, our stay was wonderful. We purchased the stay and play package and a 3 bedroom suite. We also rented Cabanas each day of our stay. I would be giving a 5 star review if it wasn't for this ONE traumatic encounter with a couple of the lifeguard staff. As I and one of my 4 children were getting ready to board the raft slide yesterday - I was shocked to hear one of the 2 lady lifeguards working the top of the slide say "I'm sorry miss you can't get on because you're pregnant." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. When I said, no, very confused - she once again said: "yeah, you're pregnant." Now after delivering 4 children who were all almost 10 lbs and 2 c sections, my stomach isn't flat. I'm very self conscious about it already, but I do not believe it looks "pregnant." Eventually they let me on after laughing to one another. I tried to keep my composure in front of my daughter who was also very upset by it. However, as soon as we ran into my husband and other daughter at the bottom of the slide - I couldn't help but cry. I never expected a vacation with our family would result in a terrible memory like this that's shaken me to my core of self esteem. The lifeguards did not even apologize. read more

Scheduled a 80 min message at 3pm for 4:30pm at 3:15pm, 15 mins later, I called to change my time slot to a later time because I could not do 4:30pm after all. I was told i will still be charged, even tho my change of time was made 15 mins from my initial visit. $179 was on my bill, I did not cancel and I was told If i wanted a different time slot I would be charged another $179.00. Stayed at Kalahari for two days and one night. We had a blast! Checkin was difficult because there was a line that took 30 minutes to get through. What a pain! Once checked in, we went straight to the water park. There were water slides for all ages, which was great because I had an eight year old, three 12 year olds, and myself. My eight year old was afraid of the kiddie water slides, so there was no chance of getting him on any large slides with me. My daughter and her two friends created as much distance between themselves and me as they could, which is okay. I get it. So my son and I hit the kiddie pool where I guilted him into riding the kiddie water slides. He loved the small water slides so much that he rode them over and over for a couple hours. We were getting hungry, so we left the water park and went back to our room and ate sandwiches that I brought with us. That saved a bundle because one large pizza costed $33. Our room was terrific! It had a king sized bed, a fold out couch, a large common area, a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and garbage disposal, a nice flatscreen TV, a large bathroom, and am outdoor porch. The room we rented was a Combination Suite and with our discount costed $319.99 for one night. On their website, the Combination Suite is illustrated as having two queen beds, one fold out couch, and one king bed all in separate rooms. But our room did not have two queen beds, as expected. So my son and I slept on the fold out couch and the three girls shared the king bed. Despite the check in process and the lack of beds, we still had fun. The next day, I talked my son into riding the larger children's water slides, which were twice as big as the small ones. He loved those and rode them for hours. My daughter wanted to ride the boat water slide (no idea what it's called), so off we ALL went. I told my son we were going to ride a boat, knowing that he might overreact if he knew we were about to ride a large water slide. I played it down, hopped in the boat, and despite expressing verbal discontent with the situation, he hopped in the boat. I told him to hold on tightly and not to let go. Off we went! It was a short, but fast ride and I heard him scream a couple times during the ups and downs, but he made it out alive. When we got off the boat ride, he said, "I hate you!"..and I laughed. I tried to give him a high five, but he didn't want anything to do with me. After five minutes, he was swimming with us in the wave pool and forgot about the drama. I booked my room 3 weeks in advance asked for view of outdoor water park. Also paid 100$$ extra vip service. When we got our room it was all the way at other end of building 5th floor 10 min walk to Lobby and overlooking parking lot. Second day we was here saw exterminator spraying room 5 doors done for bed bugs. The day before check out I called down stairs to ask how to extend our stay another day being that the kids wanted to. I was told don't worry about it come down to front desk tomorrow morning and pay for it. Got up at 8am went down to front desk to be told that room was booked and that they had no available rooms for us. Now kids are very upset. read more

Although probably magnificent once (20 years ago) Kalahari has gone to seed. Overpriced stay for run-down, uncomfortable, awkwardly arranged rooms with genuinely awful beds. Most resorts that charge what Kalahari does have way better beds. The whole place looks dingy, like it needs a new coat of paint. The rooms looked clean, but were not to my personal standards. The shower/bath fittings were loose in the wall and uncaulked, meaning the walls are full of moldy water. Housekeeping left a used washrag on the shower curtain. That is totally disgusting and shows what a shabby, shady, dilapidated place Kalahari is now. The water park is pleasant but the $300+ room rates are an outrage. Last time coming here. read more

We came here with my family for the safari outdoor park and adventure package. It was really hard to get to the safari park without staying at the hotel. We kept asking the employees and each one gave us a different answer. Finally we found the signs leading to the safari park. The person helping us with our tickets was helpful and patient. Our party did enjoy the outdoor park. The hotel doesn't allow any food or beverages inside. I wanted to get tap water from the drink station; however, the lady was extremely rude saying there is no tap water and the tap water they have is sparkling water. When I asked about the sparkling water price, she said you have to buy a cup not stating the price. I am extremely disappointed with this attitude. This has been one of our worst hotel experiences. They screwed up our hotel room. We got a regular room when we NEEDED AND RESERVED a wheelchair accessible room with roll-in shower. This is not just a matter of wanting a nicer room. This is a matter of not being able to take a shower for four days! Everything is automated now. There was no one to help resolve the issue. When I did finally speak to someone after several repeated calls, all I got was a "sorry; there's no rooms to switch to." read more

Huge and very interactive hotel attached to the water parks. Plenty of food establishments and shopping attached as well. Very clean and out room was very comfortable. Workers all seemed nice and knowledgeable. Kinda pricey. But when you do the math with everything you are receiving and take advantage of all the amenities then it's really a bargain. read more

Thinking of going here for Spring Break? DON'T!! My daughter developed a rash in the early evening of day 2. They gave her some capsule Benadryl (we had to go out and buy chewable tablets - she's 7). I bathed her and put her to bed. The next morning she seemed better, so we went out to the park for our last day. By 4pm her entire jaw began to swell (she couldn't eat), she had horrible hot rashes on her face, knees, thighs, and back (with 12 inch raised welts). we rushed home to Cleveland and took her to Rainbow Babies ER where she was diagnosed with cellulitis and put on antibiotics. She remained very sick for days, missed the Daddy Daughter Dance at her school and basketball. Another little girl who was with us also developed a nasty rash on her face, but it did not devolve into cellulitis. I called the Erie Cty. health department. They went out and read the water safety logs. There were tubs and pools whose numbers were off. They have an automated system that supposedly monitors water quality; well apparently they were not properly functioning. We went Monday- Wednesday to avoid crowds and filthy water, but obviously Kalahari takes their down time seriously and couldn't be bothered to ensure the safety of their guests. Also, they offered absolutely NO accommodation for this horrible experience. Didn't even bother to call me back like they said they would after our first conversation, even though I had huge effort to be polite. DONE with them. DON'T GO! There are plenty of other places in the area that take the welfare of their invited guests (paying exorbitant sums) seriously. read more

Our room with Waterpark tickets was a good deal, a daily Waterpark pass is $95, but a room comes with 4 passes- and with the room being $350, we basically got the room for "free". But everything else inside is outrageously priced in my opinion, on par with Disney prices. $35 for a fill-a-friend stuffed animal (think build a bear) Arcade games all took around 8-10 credits (which is $2-$2.50 PER game) Adult drinks, $15 for a 12oz mixed drink, $27 for the big one with a souvenir cup- $20 refill with cup. But who wants a stupid plastic cup that says Kalahari? Don't get me wrong- I understand they're a business and want to profit, but it just seemed excessive. Rooms did have a microwave & mini fridge- so take snacks and food to supplement to avoid paying $7 for a slice of pizza. Ate at BLux for dinner, food was adequate, but again severely overpriced, and the ranch was gross. Wave pool was impressive and the waves were huge! I really liked how they had an adult only hot tub, and a kids friendly separate hot tub. The lazy River was also nice & i really liked how they kid tubes with bottoms in them - these are great for younger kids so they can sit comfortably and float down the River. The women's locker rooms were very gross, the curtain rods were rusty & the curtains falling apart. All in all it was fun, clean, & I would return. read more

Just checking in and already hate it. Got presidential suite. As we are checking in, which took 40 min, they tell us we need to put down a $500 deposit. I didn't have my cc and already paid for room so just had my debit cc. Won't get deposit back for 7-10 days!!! Jam packed. Have a cart loaded with no option to put our stuff. They literally wanted us to go back get our car and repack it til room is ready. Nobody anywhere to even ask questions. If you to me we'd cancel and head home. So far our absolute worst hotel experience ever. Never coming back. And it only got worse. My kids saw adults arguing with employees who were throughout the day. I witnessed two incidences myself of nasty employees. I will say most were very good but several were bad. Now it's time to shower and there's been no hot water all morning.
