Was much better than expected, but also so expensive once you're there! Our room with Waterpark tickets was a good deal, a daily Waterpark pass is $95, but a room comes with 4 passes- and with the room being $350, we basically got the room for "free". But everything else inside is outrageously priced in my opinion, on par with Disney prices. $35 for a fill-a-friend stuffed animal (think build a bear) Arcade games all took around 8-10 credits (which is $2-$2.50 PER game) Adult drinks, $15 for a 12oz mixed drink, $27 for the big one with a souvenir cup- $20 refill with cup. But who wants a stupid plastic cup that says Kalahari? Don't get me wrong- I understand they're a business and want to profit, but it just seemed excessive. Rooms did have a microwave & mini fridge- so take snacks and food to supplement to avoid paying $7 for a slice of pizza. Ate at BLux for dinner, food was adequate, but again severely overpriced, and the ranch was gross. Wave pool was impressive and the waves were huge! I really liked how they had an adult only hot tub, and a kids friendly separate hot tub. The lazy River was also nice & i really liked how they kid tubes with bottoms in them - these are great for younger kids so they can sit comfortably and float down the River. The women's locker rooms were very gross, the curtain rods were rusty & the curtains falling apart. All in all it was fun, clean, & I would return. read more

Had a bad first night and visit experience at this resort with bugs on wall and ceiling. Problem was never resolved they had to end up splitting my rooms just so we could get some rest. I was told I would hear from someone the next day didn't happen. So I had to take the initiative again for resolution. There is honestly no one to speak with via phone at the resort in Sandusky, Ohio - only texting back and forth. I was told there would be compensation due to the problem in the second room, and nothing has shown yet in my credit card history. Rooms were nice, but bugs on wall and ceiling was a real problem. INFESTATION!!!! Me and my family found both roaches and bedbugs in our room after 3 days of being in the room. My niece had to leave the trip because the bites were so severe. After finding a bedbug and putting it into a container to show the the manager, they told us there was nothing they can do. We did not get a new room or any refund. My children came home and immediately took everything from the trip, put it in a bag (outside), and ran in to shower. Yet, they're still in our home. TL;DR It was okay. Room was nice, staff was pleasant and accommodating and attractions that were open were fun. There was a hidden, albeit understandable, charge on food orders from cabanas, what attractions were going to be open was a mystery, the arcade is meh, and their "zoo" was so disgusting and sad. . . . My family and I go to the Poconos location a lot but with the current bar restrictions in PA (having to order food with your drink) making it so the hot tub bars there (our favorite end of day activity there) would be closed, we decided to try the Ohio location instead. It was...okay. A LOT of the slides were down or closed one day but open the next, open for an hour but then randomly closed again, etc. The arcade and prizes, at least in comparison, is rough and it's weird that your tickets from other locations don't transfer over to each (we wanted to save our Ohio tickets because we don't plan on returning there). That said, this was the first time my family ever got a cabana and the process was so super easy and it was well worth it. Beware if you get one - there's an immediate 18 or 20% gratuity added to your food order for every order (I add because this isn't mentioned at all including when we gave her a generous tip in cash before seeing the receipt). That hidden charge was our only true complaint with them though! We were first put in one directly in the sun but they were super kind and moved us over to a different one. The idea of a sun deck is also neat (and it got hot too, they even warned to wear sun block up there) and a new add on I hadn't seen before. More then once the life guards had to stop the wave pool to jump in for an unaccompanied child - I say this as a good thing, they were very vigilant and able to keep everyone safe. Overall, they had some good attractions, slides that were open were fun, and staff was very nice. ROOM: The room was nice and clean. One of our party is hearing impaired. We called ahead and they ordered a whole kit from the Poconos to change the room to make it more accessible for her. They did leave the phone unhooked but we didn't mind that and we were able to fix it ourselves - they had already put in a lot of effort and we only needed the door bell for her anyway. The beds are firm which I didn't mind but my future mother in law did so that's up for interpretation. At the end of the day, we really had no issue with our room. THE ZOO: This is the biggest reason for the two stars. It is so sad to see the conditions the animals are in! We went and paid for the feed out front, not thinking much of it, but I really regret supporting it in any way. Trying to feed any of the animals makes you feel like they've been starving for days. In the center of the "biggest" room was a single cage that must've had 10-20 goat and sheep in it. The zebra was locked in a box and would it really have been so hard to have a tree or so for the giraffe? It was incredibly uncomfortable and I felt dirty walking through it. read more

Our 6 person suite was awesome. A group of friends deciding to just ditch work and head down on a winter day- Two balconies, a fully stocked kitchen, a dining and living area really exceeded our expectations. The waterpark area was clean, and towels were kept stocked. The adult swim up bar area wasnt packed- thank god. The arcade area could be bigger but its fun none the less. A few dining options, but be prepared to wait. My only complaint is that the only place to get starbucks is sooooo packed in the morning, and that there really should be an adults only time since the park closes at 9. I guess it was ok. There were a ton of people here with zero social distancing or masks (which is fine by me) but the waits for any attraction were 25-45 minutes all day. Even the outdoor hot tub had a line. I guess that is to be expected, but they definitely were taking any reservation they could. This place is not cheap. Take my advice- if you are going, book your room at least a month in advance. Our 2 bedroom suite with kitchen and balcony was $150 cheaper than a 1-bedroom, 2 bed no kitchen regular room because the other person in our party waited too long. Also prepare to walk about 1/2 mile to your rooms no matter where they are. This place is massive! Also, don't plan on getting drunk here. It's way to expensive and the drinks are not heavy. 4 fruity drinks and 2 beers cost $84 and couldn't even taste the booze. Bottom line is that the kids enjoyed it so that's all that matters. Overall we had a really nice time and will definitely come back. We rented a cabana for a few days that we were there which is a must with a toddler in tow. We had some issues with the cabana service on the first day, but the management more than made up for it with credits and we had an awesome server the following day. The only complaint that I would have is that they don't allow you to bring food or drink in and then the cost inside the water park is outrageous. We actually had random kids coming into our cabana asking for food! It gets very crowded in the evenings also, so I recommend going early. read more

If water isn't your thing, try the ropes course next to the outdoor park, or give zip lining a try and zip your way in a square around the outdoor park. The tiles were taped down in some main areas of the hotel. One of the hot tubs were colder than the pools. The restaurants food is sub par. Had an amazing time here. Went for three days and it was great. Check in and check out were easy and pretty fast. Our room was a suite and it was huge! We had our own kitchen with full functioning oven and dishwasher as well as stove. Cabinets were stocked with pretty much everything you would need. Kitchen, dining area, living room With fireplace, bedroom and bathroom with jetted tub. Oh a walkout balcony as well with views of the outdoor park. Rides and pool were fun. Especially the wave pool which our family enjoyed the most. One thing I wasn't expecting was good hotel food but I was surprised. We would be exhausted from the days activities so did room service and everything we got was delicious. Ivory Coast restaurant had good food. I tried the Chinese salad and pasta. We make a few trips a year here and my kids really love it. The rooms are always clean, they actually have good restaurants, their arcade is decent and the staff friendly. Their indoor waterpark is one of the best we've been to. I will not go on all the outdoor slides (too terrifying lol) but, my daughter says they're awesome. I set my phone to white noise to help drown it out to no avail. I've never been in a hotel so poorly constructed. Next, the fridge decided to defrost (the freezer was gross and probably needed to...) in the middle of the night and caused a pool of water to form around the fridge and a beautiful dripping noise at 12:30am. The sheets. They are similar to thin cardboard and I can't for the life of me understand 1. Why they chose the linens they did and 2. What manufacturer is making them to begin with?? My 10 year old daughter loved it. Otherwise, it was a terrible experience. When we arrived, I checked in at the kiosk. After going through the process, for some still unknown reason, I had to stand in line for another 30 minutes to have a staff person finish checking me in. The front desk told me my room was not ready even though it was 1) after 4 and 2) I received a text stating it was. The front desk 'checked' and confirmed it was ready. After traipsing all the way to our room, it not only wasn't ready, it wasn't even close. We sat in the hallway and waited because it's way too far to walk back to the lobby. The cable was out for the whole two days, the internet was spotty at best. The condiment stations were messy and rarely restocked. I stood in line for 30 minutes just to order food at the only snack station because they were woefully understaffed. That was just to order. Once ordered the food turned around pretty quickly. The walls are paper thin. You hear everything in the next room and unfortunately the room next to us was apparently having a drunken party fest. To their credit, security did get them to quiet down after I asked twice. The food is sub par concession food. The cheese on my nachos was barely warm and the hamburger was half the size of the bun it was on. I went to use the check out service on the TV and not only was it not working properly, it wasn't even my bill. The Cafe Mirage restaurant is bow a pricey Italian place. The snack shop in the waterpark itself was closed for either remodeling or replacement. You know that kids section with multiple platforms, slides, water guns and a huge bucket of water on too? It was closed. Water basketball? Closed. Baby section? Closed. We stayed at Kalahari from July 2-9 for my daughter's dance convention. There were so many bad incidents that I could go on and on, but I'll summarize the best I can. I made the reservations back in October. There was a special deal for booking under the dance event. When they sent my email confirmation, it did not state the special cancellation policy for the dance convention. So although the email said I had up to 72 hours to make a change, that was not the case. They said since they told me over the phone what the policy was, (back in October) it didn't matter what the email confirmation says, they were not going to honor it. We had a room with a kitchen that included 4 guests. We had five people in our room, so I got charged an additional person fee of $27 per night. I didn't realize till after we were charged, our 2 year old was free. I asked the front desk to reverse the charge, and returned the extra wristband I had asked for (the 2 year old didn't need to wear one). The person working took the wristband and said it would get taken care of. When I looked at my statement, the charge was still there. I called and the manager said I hadn't returned the wristband and therefor could not refund the money. I spent over $2000, at this resort. Now this woman was basically saying I was lying! She also said it was common knowledge that 2 year olds are free, and that I should've known that. After some yelling she did concede to refunding the charge. Similarly in the Reserve restaurant, they were out of salmon, and we weren't informed until 20 minutes after we ordered. She offered us tilapia instead. We had two young kids at this point ready to lose it, so of course we are going to take the tilapia. When I asked the server if the bill was going to be adjusted for the lesser fish she said no. When I spoke to the manager she was not readily willing to make the adjustment. Why would I pay $23 for tilapia? There is more but I'll stop here and just say it clearly is a management problem. Example, my family and I ate at Sortinos Italian kitchen tonight. the steak medallions were dry, flavorless, and minuscule - for $33!!! The pizza was soggy, sour, and skimped on toppings. Later in the night my wife asked for something sweet. although the kitchen was closed I asked a staff member if I would be able to get a piece of tiramisu. She was very nice and explained that although the kitchen was closed, that dessert was simply in a fridge and she could get me a piece of the manager agreed. I asked the manager and was told no with a snarky attitude and a laugh. We have made many trips here for long weekends, typically shelling out for the higher priced hot tub cabana, etc. No more. overpriced, under delivered, save your money and go anywhere else. read more

I can't say that everything worked out as planned as we had several issues. Issues with our reservation, issues in the arcade, and the hotel is a bit dated. Even with all of that, I am still leaving 5 stars. The staff at this hotel consistently went above and beyond to make up for the deficiencies. Every issue we had, the resort made it right. It is amazing how a little compensation for issues goes a long way with customers. Other businesses need to take note on how Kalahari puts the customer first. We will definitely be back!!! We had a fab time from the minute we got there! My granddaughters wanted some fun and Kalahari delivered! We decided to just go for just the day. We had gone there for a couple nights a few years ago but never just for the day. Only the outdoor park was open and the girls had a blast! We were met by a very helpful employee at the front entrance and he led us to the right place for the outdoor park. Kalahari is a big place and we didn't have an initial clue where to go. Without his help, we would have been wandering around wasting time. I wish I knew his name, he was great! The slides and pools were so clean. The lifeguards really care about the guests and were attentive. The food was very tasty (best cheeseburger I've had in awhile) and we got a table with an umbrella right by the kiddie slide area. I'm so glad we chose Kalahari for our fun day, we'll definitely go back again! read more

I offered my Identification and Employer credit card only to be told I didn't need either? Ok. The next morning I was told (in advance) that I would need to check in again due to the reservation and the way it was made. I came down first thing and again found a line at 7 am. The lady helping was nice but was dumbfounded as to why none of my information or credit card info was on file. Yep, me too! Got the keys changed over without any issue. When we returned to the room we found that it had been "cleaned"? There was a dirty towel on the floor, a keycard that was not ours on the floor and our "do not disturb" sign. But we did have new shampoo soo... Day 3: I returned to my room for lunch and SURPRISE, my key didn't work. I verified I was at the correct room then called the desk for help. Their answer was to "have housekeeping let you in" !!! Seriously!?!?! So a random person can just ask housekeeping to get into a room? Great! I asked her what about later and she said I'd have to come down to the desk. I'm approximately 7 miles from the desk by the way. Nice housekeeper let's me in and did not seem at all surprised by the request. I make the trek down to the desk and guess what? A line! So now I'm late to my class and freaking out. I let the front desk know what happened. She very nice, said the hotel was having issues, pulled up my room and asked if I was Michelle. I told her yes and she promptly made me two new keys. Without EVER verifying who I was. By the way, I'm here for a law enforcement convention so everyone there has weapons and gear in their rooms!! This is a Serious issue! Last time staying here EVER!!! My family and I have been coming here for 8-9 years now and every stay gets worse and worse. Checked into our room and noticed soiled bed linens and white sticky substance yes a white sticky substance on the blanket and the couch in the room. There were dirty towels in the corner of the bathroom and tape all over the walls and ceiling. Reported it to Natalia at front desk she stated it would be taken care of in 30-40 min seem to be her common answer to everything. The family before me reported the same dirty room issue and that's the response they got as well. After 4 hours at the water park we returned to the same dirty a$$ room nothing had been done. Then spoke with manager Logan who was about as helpful as a fork in a sugar bowl. He offered $20 in game tokens after paying this place $1800 bucks to stay $20 in game tokens didn't cut it.
