The people that work there are extremely tolerant and sweet, they gave me small samples of almost their entire menu and let me tell you, One of the best vegan food I've ever tried. Dined in and really enjoyed the place. I'm not a vegan (vegetarian) but I always enjoy cheese-less/egg-less options also. The vegan plate had real value with large portion sizes and a lot of interesting options. The taste was good and eating outside on Beach Street is always a plus. The juiced drink I got(Bunny Milk) was one of the best carrot juices I've had. There is a bit of "HUH?" compared to other restaurants as it's kinda unclear where to go/stand or if you should wait or take a seat but after that's all sorted - I am excited to try it again on a different vacation or trip. We found this place today while walking to the bike fest which was literally 3 blocks away from this business. It's like the healthy god was watching over us. UNSANITARY FOOD-HANDLING and POOR VENTILATION In honesty, my food was delicious. It made me feel warm and happy. The owner and his wife were gracious and pleasant, but I won't return because all I can picture now is what might be going on in the kitchen, if the woman in the front is so nasty. The server behind the counter was making a kale smoothie. With gloved hands, she walked to the glass refrigerator to get more kale leaves from a bin in the bottom--the same refrigerator from where all customers leaving the cash register walk, and from where customers as well as employees retrieve bottled beverages. By opening the refrigerator, she contaminated the gloves; she dropped a large kale leaf on the floor, picked it up with the gloved hand and included it with the other leaves that she was holding in the other hand. The kale leaves now contained other bacteria. She walked back behind the counter and put those leaves in the drink that she had been making for a customer. After 10 minutes, in the restaurant, I developed a cough from the light smoke throughout the building and noticed that the back door was left open for ventilation. By the time I left, I was coughing continuously as the smoke had increased and was visible. My hair and clothes smelled like smoke and oil. With some changes, the Kale Café could upgrade its status and increase its clientele in the vegetarian/vegan market. read more

This is a heaven spot for vegans, the food was so tasty and the staff were very friendly. The menu was diverse and it changes daily. The prices were reasonable for healthy meals. All were delicious but especially the tofu veggie stew, Mac n chz, plantains and OMG the mushrooms in jerk seasoning. I love this place and will be back. I've been to this restaurant numerous times. I've also experienced their food and their staff at the NASCAR Daytona food and wine festival and I've had the same experience every time with the owner Camille. I get a dirty look when I walk in and then when I go to order she puts on this little fake show, pretending to be nice after she just looked me up and down with her dirty looks. I used to follow this restaurant on Facebook as well and every time she'd post her live videos she's always favoring the blacks in the restaurant and pumping up her black community, even making comments like "black don't crack" and how great her black community is but when it comes to the white folks she really seems to be unimpressed and really not interested in catering to them to the point of being rude and nasty and making them feel very unwelcome. I've heard this from numerous people. This woman is absolutely racist. I've given her many chances. She even went so far once on one of her live videos in the restaurant where she proceeded to mock and make fun of customers in the restaurant. No one was in there at the time but she was pretending as if she was a customer and she was repeating things and questions that customers have asked in the past, frequently I assume, and apparently she's so annoyed by her customers and their questions that she decided to make a Facebook live video, making fun of them. I was in absolute shock.The last look she gave me at the NASCAR Daytona food and wine festival, I refuse to go back and eat here. The only reason I'm even giving this restaurant a second star is because I really do love the kale salad but I just refuse to support a racist woman running a restaurant. It's very obvious. If she could put a "blacks only" sign on her door and get away with it I'm sure she would. Brought my mother here while she was visiting and figured we'd stop in. Service is outstanding here, it's a family run business and they are the absolute sweetest. The food was delicious and filling! And let's face it, easier for indecisive people like me. Today was my 4th trip to Kale Cafe and will be my last. 1st visit was not long after they opened last year. The jerk mushrooms were a bit too salty, the place looked dreary and dark. There were no other customers but I had to wait for someone to come up front to take my order. I was not impressed with the service or the food. Still, they were new and I decided to try them again after they had been in business awhile. 2nd visit was in July of this year and the kale salad is one of the best things I have ever eaten. Still, the atmosphere was not great and the front door was broken making it hard to enter and exit. But that kale salad was delicious so I decided to try them again. My 3rd visit was last week. I ordered the kale salad and a side of jerk mushrooms. Mushrooms were very good and the kale salad was stellar. Outside seating had been added, I was made to feel welcome, was greeted by the owners and waited on immediately. The place was brightly lit with music playing. All in all a very positive experience. My tab was $8.72 not including the tip. At that point I considered it a 5 star experience. I went back today and ordered the exact same meal as last week. Went to cash out and my bill was $12.78 for the same exact order I had last week! I pulled out my phone and checked my receipt from last week. I was charged for a 1x Kids Plate/Lite Eaters for $8.00 plus tax. Today I was told the small kale salad is $6 and a small side of jerk mushrooms are also $6 (the container is 1/2 the size of the kale salad). There is no way I am paying $6.00 for a 1/2 cup of mushrooms. I showed the man at the counter my receipt from last week in an attempt to resolve the issue and he refused to budge, told me he can only charge what is on the computer and insisted he had run up my order correctly. Then he told me he'd just had surgery, raised up his shirt and showed me a bloody bandage across his abdomen. I still have no idea why anyone in a restaurant would do such a thing. I had him remove the mushrooms from my order, paid $6 for the salad and left. I won't be going back. read more
