Great views of Pearl Harbor and the lochs!

I rode the Skyline to satisfy my curiosity and enjoy the candid views of neighborhoods and agricultural fields. Clean and safe, lots of seats with wifi and enjoyable views. The stops are decent from Halawa to Kapolei- Ka Makana Alii would do well to offer a shuttle service since it's a 20 minute walk and grabbing other transportation would defeat the cost efficiency. If I had the opportunity to ride this daily and avoid our roads, I would choose Skyline hands down!

Rail gets stuck seconds after leaving Kapolei. Unreliable. Can not trust rail. Last time rail would not stop. Already $ billion dollar malfunctions continue. Rail in debt.

We rode the Skyline (Oahu's new rail system) today to experience it firsthand. To prepare, I called TheBus to find out how to get to Aloha Stadium, the furthest the system has been completed, in the Honolulu direction. Starting from the Ala Moana area, I was advised to take Bus #20, which goes through the Airport on its way to the Stadium. When I asked if there was another bus which would also take us there, the representative said #42 goes close by, but we would have to walk into the Stadium. We ended up taking the 42 because it arrived first. When we finally reached Aloha Stadium, it was just a short walk around a fence to the Skyline station itself. We discovered in the process that there were other buses we could have taken as well, among them 40 and 51. My first impression, as we arrived at the station, was that the entry/exit gates superficially resembled the subway system in Seoul, South Korea, where you swipe your cards to enter and exit. The big difference was the lines of people waiting to pay their fares prior to entering. In Seoul, there were vending machine which allow you to replenish your cards, but most riders had preloaded cards. I looked around the station and confirmed what I had previously heard, that there were no public restrooms. I had read that the trains arrive in 10 minute intervals, and when we went to the departure platform, the displayed schedules supported this; the arriving train, and the one after that, were 10 minutes apart. We got on and rode from the Halawa (Aloha Stadium) station, past Pearlridge, Pearl Highlands, Leeward Community College, Waipahu Transit Center, West Loch, Hoopili, University of Hawaii West Oahu, and finally the end point, East Kapolei. All 9 completed stations had names in Hawaiian, most of which I found difficult to remember, and I wouldn't try pronouncing them. I initially had in mind to get off at the Kapolei station to have lunch. I asked the station attendant if there were any places to eat (I meant near the Kapolei station), but to my disappointment, he indicated other stations situated sporadically along the line. In retrospect, much of the land we passed on the way to Kapolei appeared to be undeveloped, which could be a good thing, except it didn't help finalize our lunch plans. We got on the next Stadium-bound train and got off at Pearlridge. We eventually found a decent restaurant at which to eat - but that's a story for another time. After lunch and some window shopping, we opted to take the bus straight to Honolulu, rather than get back on the Skyline. Our overall impression of the Skyline? It was okay doing it once for the experience. We don't anticipate using it again in the foreseeable future. https://www.facebook.com/groups/thebusandskyline https://www.facebook.com/raymondkaya808/

I got to ride the rail 6/26/23. Maybe it is just me, but I thought the ride sucked. Very bumpy and the car stops too fast for me, but I have not been the passenger in a car for decades so that might have influenced me. We rode from Aloha Stadium to Kroc Center in Ewa. The ride to Kroc center took 24 minutes, as we were stopping at all the stations. Since all the doors on one side of the train opened, it was sometimes got a little hot in the cabin (it was about 11:00 am). Right after the Pearlridge stop heading towards Diamond Head, the train slows down and the ride gets really bumpy, which was kind of scary. I felt a nauseous after the ride but that went away in about an hour. Its okay for people to ride, but I get motion sickness while riding roller coasters. Tourists may use the rail to see Oahu and businesses around the stops would flourish. In that sense the rail may be a good thing at least during the day.

Magical Train Ride Adventure!…read more We absolutely loved our experience on the historic Hawaiian Railway -- such a unique and beautiful way to explore Oahu's west side! From start to finish it was pure aloha vibes and family fun! Prices: Standard train ride tickets were around $18 for adults and $13 for kids (ages 2-12) (kids under 2 are free!), and we felt it was worth every penny for the experience and memories! Parking & Arrival: There's plenty of free parking right at the train station, which made arriving super easy and stress-free. We got there a little early to soak in the atmosphere before departure! Hours & Tour Times: The train runs on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays with departures like 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, plus a couple of other times depending on the day -- perfect for planning your afternoon. Length & Route: The whole ride is about 90 minutes round-trip, slowly chugging through scenic parts of Oahu's Leeward coast with beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. The narration from the guide made the ride even more interesting! Stops & Fun: One of the best parts was the ice cream stop in Ko Olina -- we all hopped off for a cool treat at a little plaza and waved to neighbors along the way! Photo Ops Everywhere: There were so many spots perfect for photos -- seaside views, cute vintage train cars, and open-air seating made for great candid shots! Plus, we barely saw anyone else there during our ride, so it felt like we had the whole adventure to ourselves. Tips: * Arrive early to grab good seats and explore the train yard * Bring a camera (or phone!) -- the scenery is AMAZING * Don't forget a little extra cash for ice cream! Overall: This was one of our favorite experiences on Oahu -- kid-friendly, super scenic, and just plain fun. We're already talking about going back again next time!

It's a slow-paced easy ride with a narration of the area's past history and current status. Once the train entered onto the Ko Olina property the views were beautiful, especially up the sea cost. Passengers on both sides of the railcars switch seats to provide equal viewing opportunities. The seats are hard wood, so bring cushions. Overall a nice diversion and unique way to see the leeward (west) coastline of Oahu. Good for children especially. Staff very hospitable.

BTW, there's another station further west which is the last station. There is no parking there, you need to park at the West Oahu one. The station was nice and open. You need to buy a Holo Holo card ($2) if you don't have one. It's refillable and you should registered it online. Our RT fare to the stadium, the end point, and back to West Oahu was $3. You can buy the card and fill it at the stations before the gates. Use the card to tap in AND OUT of the gates. There were a bunch of riders on board- a lot of them were riding for fun like us. It was a nice ride- comfortable and cool, seats and interior in good condition. Signage was good - the next stop was announced ahead of time. All in all it was a fun comfortable ride! If the city can get its act together and figure out a way to actually extend the route and make the rail usable, this would be a big asset.

The Honolulu Skyline has become an attraction rather than a mode of public transportation…read more You saw on the news on the first day it opened with FREE rides to everyone. It was jam-packed! Everyone wanted to experience it. The rail is only open from 5am on the weekdays and 8am on the weekend and holidays, and closing at 7pm. I don't believe everyone purchased a Holo Card and started using the Rail because when I went on it, it was exceedingly empty. This was on a Saturday, so maybe that's a slow day? I've seen families and probably tourists riding the rail starting from the first stop in Halawa/Aloha Stadium till Kapolei, and ride it back. I took my grandma to ride since we have HOLO cards. If not, you can purchase them at the entrance--$2/card, and $3 for a single fare with unlimited transfers for 2.5 hours (but if you don't exit a rail station, you can ride it all day!).If you're coming from town via TheBus, I highly recommend catching the City Express A to Aloha Stadium to ride. You'll get off outside of the station instead of inside, but it's a short walk. The #20 and #1L bus will take a LOT longer. Since the Skyline rail is new. Everything is clean, and the rail itself is quite spacious. The ride is a steady pace that's a little shaky at the cross points and on inclines. It takes about 22 minutes from Aloha Stadium to Kapolei, and comes every 10 minutes. You do get unique views of Pearlridge, Waipahu, and Kapolei. There's a good amount of security/attendants at the rail stations, and on the rail itself. Feels like a cruise job! A quick note, there's no public restrooms, which is understandable. Overall, yes, the rail does feel like an attraction because this is the first ever rail in Hawaii, and everyone wants to experience it. The rail was an enjoyable and comfortable ride with nice views. I'd rather ride this than jam packed on TheBus. Let's get this finished! Then bring back TheBoat! And of course, the Superferry. What could have been....if only more people supported Mayor Frank Fasi in the early 80s during his run... We would already have had a rail from Hawaii Kai to Pearl City, and I'm sure that would've been expanded further. Life would be different. TheBus strike in 2003 maybe wouldn't have happened, and wouldn't have led to more people driving and stayed driving. I believe this rail has potential, especially when it opens to the Airport, and then to Chinatown/Downtown.

Fellow yelpers gave great reviews for Tina and her team's service, and I am so glad we went with them. Booking was easy and efficient, we were able to pay online ahead of time, and we booked a stretch limo from the airport to Turtle Bay for about half the cost of the resort recommended car service. I kept it a surprise and my kids were blown away. They felt like fancy pants people in the limo! Nonetheless, his service was fine, but there is definitely room for improvement and we used another taxi service for our last ride which was a much better experience. We prearranged for Johnny Cab to pick us up at the airport after our flight from OGG to HNL. Unfortunately, our short flight was almost an hour late, and his colleague, Wasa, waited patiently for us until we retrieved all our luggage. His car was on the older side, but Wasa was very patient and an excellent and safe driver. Since our flight arrived so late, it took us around an hour to get to our hotel in Waikiki since we had hit rush hour. Because of this, we of course gave Wasa a very decent tip, but he deserved it due to all the inconveniences our delayed flight created and his professionalism when driving. Because of this, we decided to use Johnny Cab again the next day when we needed a ride from our hotel in Waikiki to our new hotel in Ko Olina. This time we were picked up by Johnny, who graciously came 30 minutes earlier than our scheduled pick-up time at 1:15pm, per our request. Unfortunately, the things I didn't like so much about Johnny was that he drove a little aggressively, almost tailgating another driver. Albeit this driver was in the fast lane, it wasn't something I expected from someone who drives for a living, and we never said we were in any rush to get to our destination. He also got visibly angry at some jaywalkers. I get it, when I drive and people jaywalk and block my car, I get mad too, but I also don't drive patrons for a living. Finally, we tried to make conversation with him, but the vibe overall was really off. It's hard to explain and maybe our personalities didn't mesh, but it was reason enough where we decided not to use his services again for our final ride. The other tax company we used to take us on our final day from Ko Olina to HNL was much more professional. You can see my review of them as well. When booking with this new taxi company, we received an email and text confirmation right after we booked our appointment. We didn't get any type of confirmation from Johnny Cab. Also, with the other taxi company, we also received a link by text so we can track our driver when he was on our way to us. Finally, the morning we were about to leave (at around 5am - our pick-up time was at 6am), we received a final text confirmation that our driver was coming. He even came 30 minutes early. After using the other taxi service, who charged the exact same price as Johnny Cab, I definitely won't be using Johnny Cab again and would rather use a more established and reputable taxi company. I think Johnny Cab is just a 1 or 2 man show, while the other taxi company has a fleet of over 100 taxis. Maybe we just got a good driver for our other taxi company, but they just seemed more professional overall.
