Talked to two or three other companies, and Kamaaima Movers were by far the most reasonably priced, especially since they brought a team of three, whereas other companies offered a team of two for the same hourly rate. The two hour minimum charge was explained, and they estimated that they could get it done within that initial two hours. Affordable, efficient and reliable movers. I had booked them a few weeks in advance and they showed up about 15 minutes early. There were a team of 3 guys, who were very professional, efficient and friendly. They moved us out of a 2 bedroom apartment, which is on the 3rd floor and only accessible by stairs. In addition to a bunch of boxes and furniture, we had a bulky and heavy couch that they maneuvered down the stairs with no complaints or damages. Moving day came and Duane showed up to supervisor the guys. The movers were fantastic! They wrapped all furniture in plastic with blankets to ensure nothing broke. Great guys and quick move, very flexible on times for move. I went to move into my condo and 730, and low and behold the elevator was broken, they said I had to cancel my move! So I called Kama'aina Movers and they said they would be on hold until further notice. They ended up moving another customer and helping me right after, perfect timing! It took them 2 hours to move my house into the condo (to be fair I had everything ready to go and staged), they didn't break anything, didn't mess around, and were really personable. They also didn't start the time until they were ready to move, not when they left their office (unlike some way more expensive movers!). After reading the great reviews, I decided to call them and was told I would need two guys for two hours. When I booked over the phone, I explained again what kind of furniture and how many boxes I have just to make sure. I was still told two guys for two hours would be enough. Half an hour before the move, the mover called and tried to convince me to go with three guys. He didn't have any info I gave when booking, and I told him I was told two guys for two hours is fine. Then two guys showed up. Once they saw my stuff (everything was packed and ready to go), they said it would be an easy move and two hours is enough. They started without hand tracks or dollies and I asked if they can use them but they said it's in a truck and it would be fasted without using them - which was ofcourse not. Also, every box he brought to the elevator, he went back to his phone and changed music. Very unprofessional and inefficient. The reason I know they were very slow is that I moved in with a different mover a couple of weeks ago and it took less than half an hour from their truck to my studio using the same elevator. Again, everything was packed so it is the same thing, just reversed. I was nervous that it would take longer and asked them if they can rush a little, but they kept saying it will be fine - which wasn't. I helped the entire process (from carrying boxes to loading them on their truck/elevators) but it still ended up taking almost three hours. If I knew they were not professional and it would be three hours, I would have gone to a different mover... I was very disappointed and will never use them again. read more

I have been pre-occupied with finding a new apartment and moving for awhile so I have been off yelp, knee deep in adulting, much to my dismay. My elderly mother and I can't carry some of our heavy furniture so I set out calling various moving companies on the island. Most companies charge 1 to 2 extra hours just to drive from their business to your house, which seems a little shady so I asked some friends if they recommended a company that did not charge this extra travel time and 2 friends highly recommended this locally ownded company. Dwayne's counterpart, John called me the morning of the move to let me know they were on their way to my old apartment and they arrived shortly after. I had booked 3 guys, but they had 4 on the team and assured me that I would still get the 3 person rate. All the guys on the team were courteous, professional and took great care with all our things. They moved a 2 bedroom duplex from one side of the island to a second floor unit across town in only 2 hours. It was wayyyyyy under budget for what we had braced ourselves for. I tipped the guys a lot of money because it was hot and they really, really hustled. I truly appreciate hard working, honest and kind people like Dwayne, John and the whole team. Briefly speaking, the person who answered the phone sounded like he is always on the road. His service wasn't good and he did not know how to coordinate obviously, the mover came in the wrong time (I called twice to confirm about the time). They cracked my door and wall so badly, I just got done fixing them (it's been months). One of the movers wore a huge ring, as he moved, he was scratching my door at the same time. Last, but not the least, the movers left and came back asking to use the toilet!! You can't imagine the frustration.
